Emmanuel
Love is a weakness. You either kill it or it will kill you. I’ve been in love once, and that’s what I did. I killed it.
I’ve managed to avoid the weakness throughout my entire life. And then I saw her. A ghost from my past, very much alive and right in front of me.
When she tries to flee from my grasp, I hold tighter. Because dead or alive, Evie is mine.

Evie
I’ve spent my life being put on display. Beautiful is a word I’ve heard a million times. Do I believe it?
No. I might be shiny on the outside, but the inside… is a dark, scarred, bruised place.
When I wake up to a cartel boss looming over me, his jaw clenched tight and his eyes darker than the emptiness I feel, my first instinct is to reach out and comfort him. That’s when I realize my mistake. But it’s the one word he utters that has my skin crawling.
“Who?” And I know he knows. He knows my secrets. Emmanuel Lopez can see all of me and he’s not disgusted by the ugliness he finds there…

I knew this was going to be good but it surpassed all my expectations! E was down so bad for Evie and he made sure she knew it whether she was ready or not. The man was the definition of obsessed. Evie gave as good as she got though, especially when he was trying to be controlling. These two had so much chemistry to go along with their equal measures of stubbornness.

There was trauma, violence, twists and love all tied up in a beautiful package. Best series spin off out there!!

E was the absolute best!!!

I loved that he never lied to Evie. He was honest even with the hard and ugly stuff. I freaking loved him so much. Evie was great too, she definitely matched his energy.

I enjoyed their story, and the twists were fantastic. This book was long and worth every minute of every page. I couldn't put it down. I'm looking forward to the next gen books for sure especially Emilio's book. 😅

This Vegas series has been so great and Evie and E were the cherry on top!

At this point author Kylie Kent can automatically take my money on anything she writes.
Looking for over the top alpha male that only has eyes for the female character look no farther than Dead or Alive. Evie and Emmanuel are that toxic love that fits just right. They know they each have their own flaws and personal demons to navigate. Evie sees all of Emmanuel "E's" flaws and is still drawn to him knowing she would be telling any of her girlfriends to run the other way.

And Mr. Emmanuel Lopez is no golden boy he is down and dirty, rough and polished at the same time. When he sets his eyes on Evie who looks like his teenage girlfriend who he knows is no longer among the living he knows she is his one way or another.

This has probably turned out to be my favorite so far by Kylie Kent and let me tell you that is something coming from me because her Valentino men have been my go to men for almost 2 years now then she had a crossover of Hockey/Mafia men that I literally had to buy the special editions that set me back a few bucks. I normally do not buy physical copies of books unless I love every moment I have read from the eBook. and Mr. Emmanuel Lopez is about to be bought in in paperback as well because this had me on the twisted turn up until the last page.

If you have TW/Content issues please read the list the author provides this touches on a few subjects that could be difficult for some readers to read. Don't take it lightly your mental health is important.

To Kylie Kent (If you ever read review) let me just say whether it be Valentino, Williamson, Lopez you have my hooked to your storylines. The more I read from you its the perfect escape in a crazy world. Thank you for creating the writing world you have. Now I'm ready for the second generation because you create something special with each family you write.

Now Emmanuel is what you would call the definition of a man willing to do absolutely anything and everything for the woman he loves. When he first meets Evie he believes he is seeing a ghost from his past- that being a girlfriend who he tragically lost years ago but he soon came to realise this was not the case.

From the moment he met Evie that was it for him, and he was always very straight about his intentions. Were some of his methods questionable? Absolutely, he was a morally grey man to his core but he never hid this fact.

Evie was fierce and feisty FMC, who most certainly wasn’t afraid to give E a piece of her mind. She came to realise quite quickly that she was his sole focus and there was nothing she could do to change that. Evie suffers from insomnia due to past trauma and Emmanuel does everything in his power to ensure those who caused her pain in the past are permanently removed.

I enjoyed reading about this couple, their chemistry was evident and couldn’t be denied. There was a few little twists and turns as well.

Thank you to the author who provided this e-arc from my honest thoughts 💭

Sadly it was't that good.

I was so excited for this story. Unfortunately it fell flat for me halfway in. I feel fhe book could've been shorter because most of it didn't pertain to the storyline. Evie annoyed me throughout the book with her hot and cold. Their main plot was Evie's pageant history and that was very anti climactic, same with Laura's story. I wish it would've focused more on that than him convincing her to be together. The book had so much potential, but i felt I was reading the same books again because it starts at Louie and Charlotte's story.

I love me a good mafia romance and Kylie Kent knows how to do them!

I love Emmanuel and Evies relationship from the start. The way Emmanuel is devoted to her and she almost always trusts him. I wish I would have read the Owning Vegas books, but it was good even though I haven't yet!

If you love a very possessive and obsessive MMC, read it!

Firstly I just wanted to say a massive thank you to the author for allowing me the opportunity to read and review this book early. I have loved every Kylie Kent book I have read and this one was no different. I ended up rating it 4.5 stars by the end and had such a fun time while reading it!

Kylie is a queen when it comes to writing unhinged, obsessive and possessive men! Emmanuel definitely fits that bill perfectly. He is a Cartel boss, he’s morally black and he doesn’t trust a single person including those he considers to be a friend. Emmanuel constantly keeps people on their toes, he personally delivers the consequences for double crossing him and he loves to make an example out of people that demonstrate just how crazy he is willing to be. Emmanuel also has his fair share of baggage that has definitely helped to shape him into the ruthless man he is now.

Evie girl is the total opposite! She lives a quiet life as a business owner in a small town, she openly loves her friends and she is a genuinely nice person. She has had her fair share of trauma and works every day to overcome that even when it sometimes feels like she is drowning. One thing I will say about her is that she hates being called beautiful and she hates speaking to anyone about her past, friends included. I grew to love her so much as I found out more about her past and why it is that she struggles to sleep normally.

These two accidentally meet when Evie ventures to Las Vegas to meet one of her best friend’s new boyfriends. That boyfriend happens to be part of the underworld hence the reason why Emmanuel was there. From the minute these two meet there is a definite attraction and Emmanuel decides that she WILL be his no matter what.

There was a lot of banter between these two because Evie did not just drop her entire life for him much to Emmanuel’s dismay. He made it his mission to wear her down and constantly pops up in her life, tries to persuade her to spend time with him, stations his own personal security in her town to make sure she’s safe and he even goes that little step extra by buying the houses surrounding hers. I did laugh quite a bit when it came to Emmanuel’s over the top protectiveness and personality but I also really loved it. Evie quite literally didn’t stand a chance of successfully turning him down.

A lot of secrets are revealed, a lot of action happens, some really sweet moments were also apart of this story but a sense of trust and safety was also built which I loved. When he learns more about her trauma he makes it his personal mission to get revenge on her behalf and boy was I here for the ride.

Neither of them deserved the things they went through in the past but I loved the future they end up building together. They help carry each other’s demons and it makes it a little easier to breathe which is another thing I absolutely adored.

If anyone is on the market for a new morally black book boyfriend this one definitely needs to go on your TBR!

I have been WAITING for this book. I knew it was going to be good but somehow, Dead or Alive still managed to completely blow my expectations out of the water.

Emmanuel was down catastrophically for Evie, and he made sure she knew it whether she was ready for that level of obsession or not. This man is the definition of obsessed. No hesitation. No restraint. No chill. Ever. And honestly? I loved every second of it.

Evie, though? She gave as good as she got. Every time Emmanuel tried to be controlling, she pushed right back, and the chemistry between them was insane. Equal parts stubborn, fiery, and feral energy. Their banter, their tension, their power struggle it all worked so perfectly.

I was lucky enough to receive an ARC of Dead or Alive, and Kylie warned us. Repeatedly. “Emmanuel is unhinged.” I believed her. I really did.
Then I read the book… and immediately messaged her:
“Emmanuel is deeply unhinged.”
She already knew.

I realized how unhinged this man was before I even finished the prologue, and that assessment never changed. Not once. And somehow? I still loved him. Emmanuel is the kind of man who will do absolutely anything and everything for the woman he loves morals, laws, and common sense be damned.

When he first meets Evie, he genuinely believes he’s seeing a ghost from his past a girlfriend he tragically lost years ago. That illusion doesn’t last, but his fixation? Oh, that settles in hard.

And listen… Evie pushes his buttons CONSTANTLY, and it’s glorious.
This man is feral for her.

Some highlights that had me screaming:

He literally stopped a whole plane so she couldn’t leave Vegas… then hauled her ass off it.

She’s saved as “my love” in his phone. He’s saved as “asshole.”

Every time someone shoots at him, Evie jokes about how it’s “not her lucky day” and tells him next time they’ll get him she even tells him to play chicken.

He bought every single house around her home so no one could watch her.

He sent her $25 million—she sent it back.
So he sent $50 million—she sent it back.
So he sent $100 million.

She keeps saying “he’s not my boyfriend”… Emmanuel strongly disagrees.

This book is dark, unhinged, addictive, and impossible to put down. Emmanuel is morally black, dangerously obsessed, and utterly devoted—and Evie is strong, sharp, and refuses to be steamrolled. Together? Pure chaos. Pure chemistry. Pure perfection.

Tropes we ABSOLUTELY loved:

🖤 Touch Her & Die (yes… family included)
🖤 Obsession
🖤 Stalking
🖤 Morally BLACK MMC
🖤 Strong FMC
🖤 Found Family

If you love dark romance with an unhinged MMC who would burn the world down for his woman—this book is for you. I’m still thinking about it. I will never recover. 🖤🔥

Broken pasts, two fiercely guarded hearts, and a man who believes love is a weakness he cannot afford. Emmanuel has spent his life convinced that attachment only leads to loss but when he meets Evie, a woman who carries the same face as the ghost from his past, every rule he lives by starts to crumble. He finds himself falling hard for the fiery, determined woman he cannot let go of and it becomes clear that there’s only one endgame in sight and that’s Evie.

Sooooo…did we really did save the best for last? Yes, yes we did! I am SO glad Kylie gave us this story and spun off Owning Vegas to give Emmanuel and Evie the spotlight they deserved. Their push and pull was perfection and watching them meet each other in the middle felt so earned. Emmanuel absolutely fell first and fell harder, and let me tell you, my man was WHIPPED for Evie in the most endearing way.

“Why are you so interested in my past?”

“Because I plan on being your future…”

Can we talk about Emmanuel for a second? Because I loved him SO SO SO MUCH. He was such a mystery, such an enigma throughout the other Owning Vegas books that I knew he was special. He loved Evie deeply, fiercely, and protectively, even when he fought it every step of the way. And as much as he acted annoyed by his friends, you could tell how much he cared about them too. That said, let’s not forget he is a cartel boss for a reason. His rough side was brutal, ruthless, and unapologetic, he wasn’t just “kill only the bad” like some mob boss MMCs are, he serves violence and collateral damage as a way of setting examples and as ruthless as it is, this is why he’s Jefe. Like his version of duck duck duck goose? Absolutely unhinged, gruesome, and somehow done with the best intentions. Only Emmanuel can get away with such a polar personality.

And this is why Evie was the perfect match for him. A firecracker with a broken past and a heart of gold, she stood her ground and never let her pain or insomnia define her. She had strength, warmth and resilience that made her impossible not to root for.

“I like being loved by you.”

I honestly enjoyed every single moment of this book, it flew by way too fast! And just like that, the Owning Vegas series comes to an end and I am genuinely bawling my eyes out with the thought of how much I’m going to miss this group.

But listen…Owning Vegas second gen? HELL YES, SIGN ME UP!!! I am already SO excited for Jazzy all grown up (and in love) and without spoiling anything, I just know that second book in that upcoming series is about to become my Roman Empire :)

Dead or alive is a spinoff of the owning Vegas series. Emmanuel has been a crucial part of the series throughout the books. I’m so happy he finally has his own story. We find out more about his past as well as how he came into power. He grew up with all three guys from the Owning Vegas series and he basically inherited the cartel through his dad. He doesn’t talk about his past. His friends know that something happened to him. He keeps everything close to the vest. He’s all about power, and always wants to protect his friends even if he has to lie to them. The day he meets Evie, he is instantly smitten. However, she reminds him of someone from his past. He even starts believing it might be her but certain characteristics have him believing Evie is a completely different person. He becomes so obsessed with her. He’s determined to make her his at any means necessary. How far will this obsession go?

We first met Evie in the first book of the owning Vegas series as Charlotte‘s friend. We immediately fell for her charm and her sweet sweetness. She’s always there for Charlotte and will do anything for her. The night she meets Emmanuel, there’s instant chemistry between them and she definitely wants to get to know him a little more. Although, the way he keeps looking at her makes her uneasy. She doesn’t care that he’s dangerous. She just doesn’t like how he can’t stop staring at her like he knows more about her. Evie has a sad past that has led her to have terrible insomnia where she passes out from a few hours to a few days. Her friends don’t know what happened to her. Emmanuel takes her to his place to not only get to know her, but to find out what happened to her. She fights him at every turn until she realizes she’s starting to care for him. Will she tell him what happened?

Kylie Kent had me on the edge of my seat. This was definitely an emotional roller coaster. I felt bad for Evie. Her story is extremely sad. However, Emmanuel‘s past is just as tragic having to be consumed by guilt and then realize he’s been betrayed by people close to him. Their chemistry definitely led to really hot scenes. I love the friendship between all the girls as well as all the men, I loved that we got to see all the couples together. This was nonstop from the very beginning. It is filled with drama, action, danger, humor, betrayal, heat, suspense, and unpredictable twists. I’m sad that the series is over but I’m so happy that we are getting a second generation. I will be counting the days.

If you are new here then I am letting you know now. @ is one of my favorite authors and i love every book she's written (which is A LOT) I have been dying for this spinoff from her Vegas series since the characters were introduced in book 1. It can be read as a standalone but trust me you want to read the other 3 because they are perfect. He lost the love of his life and watched her die in his arms

Emmanuel
He lived a life of struggle with his friends (vegas series) until his father showed up and forced him to become the next cartel leader. He's witnessed so many terrible things as a child and had it drilled in his head that love made you weak and vulnerable. He lost who he thought would be the love of his life but he realized she never was when his eyes land on Evie. He is ruthless and protective in all the best ways.

Evie
Her mother only loved her for her beauty and how she could use her. Never for her as a person. She use to be a pageant girl but quit and opened up her own shop. She's good friends with Charlotte (owning Vegas series) She's is confident about her beauty but not of her beauty within. She is so strong and fierce. I loved how much we got to see the real her as the story progressed.

I truly loved this story and how the cartel part wasn't a character trait that's just mentioned but was actually s big part of the story. Kylie always writes the best dark romances that feel so unique. Evie staying true to who she is and not changing to be a cartel women was refreshing.

Seeing the characters from previous books and them being a big part of this story was such an amazing Ester egg.
The setup for the next book in the interconnected series was so perfect and I cannot wait to dive in it!

There is nothing Kylie has written that I don't devour. I love everything she writes and once you jump into her universe you will never want to leave.

I don't want to spoil anything and I was too focused on the story I forgot to write notes. Just trust me and read her books. Thank me later 😉

I was warned that Emmanuel was unhinged, Kylie Kent completely blew my expectations out of the water with Dead or Alive, and I’m officially obsessed with this man’s lack of chill. Emmanuel is a morally black Cartel boss who believes attachment is a weakness—until he meets Evie, who looks exactly like a ghost from his past. Watching this ruthless man, who literally serves violence as a way of setting examples, fall first and fall hard was the highlight of my reading year. He is the definition of "down catastrophic," and whether Evie was ready for it or not, he made sure she knew he was never letting her go.

But the real magic is that Evie doesn’t just let him steamroll her. She’s a firecracker with a spine of steel who pushes his buttons constantly, and their chemistry is just pure feral energy. I lived for the moments she’d tell him to "play chicken" while people were actually shooting at them! Emmanuel’s level of obsession is truly next-level; we’re talking about a man who literally stopped a whole plane just to haul her back to him, saved her as “my love” in his phone while she saved him as “asshole,” and bought every single house surrounding her home so no one could even look at her. He even tried to send her $100 million just to get her attention because she kept sending back the $25 million! His protectiveness is over-the-top and slightly terrifying, but watching him wear her down with sheer persistence was glorious.

This book is dark, addictive, and the perfect finale to the Owning Vegas series. Watching these two carry each other’s demons and build a future out of their broken pasts felt so incredibly earned. It’s got the perfect mix of high-stakes action, witty banter, and "burn-the-world-down" protectiveness that makes it impossible to put down. I’m honestly devastated that this series is over, but the second-gen teaser at the end has me ready to make the next series my entire Roman Empire. If you’re looking for a morally black book boyfriend who is dangerously obsessed and utterly devoted, you need this on your TBR immediately!

I pre-ordered this book with my own money, and WAS NOT given an ARC copy... not sure why goodreads thinks I was.

This isnt a review I wanted to write, and Im in the minority here, but unfortunately I really didnt like this book. Im extremely disappointed. I have loved E and Evie since His Kingdom and was really really looking forward to this book, so much so that I requested the day off work on release day, knowing I would want to read it all in one sitting.

I liked the beginning and really felt for E with his HORRIBLE parents and being forced into a life he didn't want. And dang did I really feel bad for Evie too, her life is something that no one should ever have to deal with! But then after like 200-ish pages everything went downhill for me.

Evie was soo hot and cold with E most of the book. She didnt admit her feelings until 85%, and even at the very end going into her wedding she was questioning her decision. I tried to have grace and understand where she was coming from because of her truly terrible childhood/ past. But I just couldnt. She was only nice to him or wanted him around on her terms (so when she was in trouble/ needed support or 🍆), and it came off very selfish to me.

Plus she was all offended by the bad things he did, but Charlotte and even E himself warned her that he was dangerous and really ran a cartel, and she slept with him anyways. So... dont go getting all mad when he does exactly what cartel bosses do 🤷🏻‍♀️ Although I will say, killing innocent teenagers was even a bit much for me... and I typically dont struggle with morally gray/ black. I had zero problem when he shot his mother!

It was 150 pages too long, and yet the end was rushed. And I HATED the twist ending. I dont even understand how a book that long could have a rushed ending... but here we are.

I almost DNFd this multiple times, but wanted to know the ending. And for that reason, and that reason only is this 2⭐️ for me.
This entire review has been hidden because of spoilers.

4.5🌟

I have been WAITING for this book. Dead or Alive is a spinoff of the owning Vegas series. Emmanuel has been a important character in the series all along. I’m super excited that he finally has his own story. Since we keep getting sneak peeks about them in the Owning Vegas series, I was really curious to dive into Emmanuel and Evie's story.😍

Emmanuel Lopez was totally into Evie, and he made sure she knew it, whether she was ready or not. This guy was the definition of obsessed. I loved reading how Emmanuel took revenge on everyone who had hurt Evie in the past. How he cared for her and encouraged her to move forward. How he was there for Evie at every turn, supporting her. I loved that he was always honest with Evie, even when it came to the tough and ugly stuff. I seriously loved him so much.🫠💞

I liked Evie. She is strong, stubborn, and definitely feral. But there were times when I didn’t really like her behavior so much. Still, I admired how she faced her past fears and doubts throughout the story.🫂❤️‍🩹

I enjoyed every single moment of this book. It was definitely an emotional roller coaster. There was a lot of fun banter between these two.😂 I laughed a lot at Emmanuel’s over-the-top protectiveness and personality, but I also really loved it. Their chemistry definitely led to some really steamy scenes.🥵😉

I love the friendship among all the girls as well as the guys, and I loved that we got to see all the couples together.😌💞🥹 It’s packed with drama, action, danger, humour, betrayal, spice, suspense, and unexpected twists. I’m sad that the series has come to an end, but I’m so happy that we’re getting a second generation. I can’t wait to read about Emilio's story.🤩

Okay, so what can I say about Dead or Alive?

You know that feeling when you have your first child? You have all the anticipation, the build up, the laughter, the excitement. Then comes the birth filled with blood, sweat, tears, maybe a little shouting and finally an emotion filled HEA. Then, when you finally come home from the hospital with your brand new baby you are hit with an all encompassing feeling of what now? Well Dead or Alive is the book version of that. No seriously, I timed myself and I read it cover to cover in less than 3 hours and when I was finished I had to read 3 one star rating books just so I could move on to my next ARC read because if I’d have judged it coming off the back of Emmanuel, then I wouldn’t have judged it fairly.

Emmanuel, Emmanuel, Emmanuel what can I say about the walking, talking red flag that is Emmanuel? Well he’s a little unhinged, for sure., and he’s definitely turned torture and gift giving into an art form. But, is that a bad thing? I mean, yes i know murder is bad, but he’s only killing people who hurt her, or touch her, and maybe look at her. Who doesn’t find that kind of obsession and devotion attractive?
And the subject of Emmanuels obsession is the beautiful and fiercely independent business owner Evie, well she handles Emmanuel with banter and grit despite her all consuming attraction and chemistry with the morally grey (more black than grey tbh) Jefe. Evie has suffered horribly in her life at the hands of people she should have been able to trust but the strength that she shows is phenomenal.

Honestly this book was fantastic, with nail biting action, core clenching spice and a plot twist you’ll never see coming. I highly recommend this book to anyone who loves mafia romance with Touch Her and Die vibes and a man who will do anything for the woman that he loves.

I have read this author before but it was at the very beginning of my reading journey. I really liked their writing style. It was a very easy read and IMO I would describe this book as a light dark book (hopefully that makes sense) and I enjoyed it. The story was good but towards the end I felt a bit rushed. I would have given 3.5 stars but no half stars allowed and I didn’t think it was worth 3 stars (IMO) as I would still read more by this author (and series if that happens) and with a 3 star I generally wouldn’t.

This man is obsessed with Evie and for good reason, she is identical to his ex-girlfriend (who we find something out about) prior to her death when they were 16.

(Hopefully not a spoiler) I personally felt that the ending section with the revelation of who the exgirlfriend was to Evie and how he has technically knew Evie since she was 16 was a bit rushed. And I kinda felt she accepted everything that happened a bit quickly before marrying him.

Having said that the storyline with Evie and how her past was handled was good. I felt you could see the character growth from someone who was obsessed with her looks to someone who was learning to accept beauty is skin deep was a very positive step.

I don’t know if this will be a stand alone or if we could possibly get more from this world but I would have happily accepted a book duo to allow the couples story develop a little bit more

Kylie Kent is waving a giant red flag, and his name is Emmanuel Lopez. The man is not ashamed of who he is and he has no intention of hiding either. When he meets Evie, he comes right out and tells her that he’s the head of the Da La Sangre Cartel.

Evie is Charlotte’s best friend and when she comes to Vegas to be with Charlotte after she falls for Louie and this puts her straight in the path of Emmanuel. Evie seems like a sweet southern woman, who knows her own mind and has a strong will of her own. However, Evie suffered from repeated traumas that have shaped the woman she’s become.

Dead or Alive is the story of what happens when a man like Emmanuel becomes obsessed with woman. Despite Evie’s defiance and intentions to stay far away from Emmanuel fate seems to push them toward each other until she can’t resist any longer.

Emmanuel is planning to make sure Evie becomes his and never wants for anything again, and that all the things that hurt her in the past are eradicated from the world. His empire is also under threat as well as that of his friends. Despite all of that his determination to have Evie doesn’t wane.

Emmanuel is an amazing leading man, and his red flags and morally grey behaviour only make for character you can fall in love with. Evie despite her damage isn’t one to be walked all over, it’s only when her trauma is triggered you see her weak side that needs a man like Emmanuel to make her strong. Together they make an amazing couple with a story I couldn’t get enough of.

100% worth a read.

Happy Reading.

Evie, a former pageant contestant, is worn out by hearing and witnessing how much people only appreciate her outward attractiveness. Because of her traumatic past, Evie doesn't engage in relationships, but everything changes when she meets Emmanuel. He persists in pursuing her despite her attempts to be sarcastic and chilly in their interactions with one another. Emmanuel, a ruthless man who leads a Mexican cartel, doesn't give a damn about anyone or anything and always manages to obtain what he wants. He wants Evie now. She is a great match for Emmanuel, she is a tough, outspoken, and bold female. The only person who can see right through her and accept her for who she really is, is him. Emmanuel is a vicious man who seeks to kill and seek vengeance on everyone who wronged Evie.
Can Emmanuel conquer her demons and heal her wounds? Can Evie love Emmanuel in spite of his obsession, cruelty, and possessiveness?

I adored how Emmanuel was trying to maintain his composure with her while her feistiness driving him crazy.
Their relationship, teasing, and plot twist were compelling and emotionally charged.
You should definitely read this novel if you enjoy the MC being ruthless, possessive and obsessed.
I am eagerly waiting for the second generation.

Ms. Kent has delivered a book of true love; however, there are twists and turns you would never expect and heartbreak. Right from the start, I knew this book could break me. Two souls who have lived a life of hell. Both of them were forced to deal with secrets and devastation but somehow came through it.
Dead or Alive is the story of Emmanuel and Evie. He's a cartel boss and she is a past pageant queen and now a clothing store owner. As I read their pasts and the hell they went through, I was in shock. What I loved was how honest Emmanuel was with Evie about his life, the good and the ugly. He held nothing back. He was also a man who did everything inhis power to right the wrong she had lived with. He was a possessive, touch her and die, alpha male to let the world know she was his, and he would do anything for her. Evie had so much baggage that it haunted her, keeping her from sleep. She came across as a resilient woman who was feisty, full of sass, and independent and strong. I loved her character and how she was not going to let her past and Emmanuel dictate her life.
These two were made for one another. They seemed to help one another heal from the past they had to endure.

dead or alive

Kylie has done it again, another addicting read, I knew I was going to love Emmanuel and Evie’s story from meeting them in previous books in the series but it totally blew past my expectations. I was hooked from start to finish, I couldn’t put it down! Evie’s traumatic past is heartbreaking but I really admired her strength and determination to not allow it to impact her life and future, despite the effects it did have on her daily life.

Emmanuel was every OTT, protective, obsessive, unhinged, psychotic cartel boss alpha male goodness that Kylie writes with perfection, despite his unapologetically brutal and bloody ways you can’t help falling for him. He is a product of his own brutal and violent influence of his father’s cruel parenting, and he has his own trauma and issues he’s dealing with too.

Kylie has delivered another great mafia romance where the mmc is unapologetically, irrevocably and completely in love with the fmc and will go to any and all lengths to have her and protect her, and a fmc who is strong, resilient, feisty, independent and doesn’t just roll over for him, but challenges and keeps him on his toes.

Honestly, I normally love KK books but this one was just a massive flop for me. I was really looking forward to E&E’s book but their story was so disappointing.

1. The book somehow managed to be too long while also being so rushed. The story was all over the place.
2. I don’t mind a 🚩 MMC but he was pitch black and not in a good way. He consistently talked about her like properly he owned which could technically be overlooked but he also killed innocents- underage innocents for the sins of their parents. I cannot get over that. It’s ok for the MMC to unleash vengeance against those who are not innocent but he literally was going to allow his men to rape two teenage girls before killing them. It was only at the mercy of his men that they were simply killed and not raped. WTF.
3. The story felt like it truly had minimal plot other than the FMC insecurities over her trauma and her beauty paired with his need to own her. There was too much going on to really follow a solid plot. It was just a dumpster fire.

I refuse to rate lower than 3 stars bc I normally eat up KK books and her unhinged obsessive MMCs but this book read like it was written by someone else entirely.

ARC Reader! I was waiting for this book after devouring Owning Vegas series and I was not left disappointed. As soon as this landed in my inbox I started it immediately and finished it the same day. We are introduced to both Evie and Emmanuel in the Owning Vegas series. Evie is a southern belle, ex-beauty pageant dress shop owner and best friends with Charlotte whereas Emmanuel is the unpredictably lethal Mexican Cartel Boss. Both of them have past trauma however Evie is determined to not ‘burden’ anyone with her issues and Emmanuel is the obsessed touch her and d1e type. I love how we see events from the Owning Vegas series from the POV’s from Evie & Emmanuel and I’m so glad they both got their HEA. I cannot explain how excited I am for the next generation and I pray we get chapters of the ‘parents’ POV because I just haven’t had enough of this crew yet. The amount of spice in this book is perfect for me, it’s there in small doses which for me allows the story to unfold and the relationship between them to evolve on a deeper, emotional level.

🖤📚 Dead or Alive by Kylie Kent — ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐

This was my first Kylie Kent read and WOW… I’m officially obsessed. I already had a few of her books sitting on my TBR, but after this? I’ve immediately downloaded the rest of the Owning Vegas series. Consider me a new fan for life.

We follow Emmanuel and Evie.
Emmanuel is a morally BLACK MMC—cartel head, ruthless, unhinged, and completely obsessed. Evie is broken but hella strong, and absolutely no pushover.

When I say this man is obsessed… I mean OBSESSED. Emmanuel takes “pursuing what he wants” to a whole new level—no hesitation, no mercy, and definitely no taking no for an answer. And Evie? She meets him every step of the way with strength, fire, and some seriously good banter.

Their dynamic had me hooked from start to finish. Dark, intense, addictive—I devoured this book.

Do yourself a favour and grab this the moment it releases on 24 Feb.
I’m still thinking about it. I’m still obsessed. 🖤🔥

Tropes we LOVE:
🖤 Touch Her & Die (and yes… family included)
🖤 Obsession
🖤 Stalking
🖤 Morally BLACK MMC
🖤 Strong FMC
🖤 Found Family

“I won’t fail you, Evie. I will always protect you,” Emmanuel says.

Evie and E meet through their mutual friends Louie & Charlotte (His Kingdom). He is obsessed from the beginning and sheis just trying to have a good time. When he doesn’t let her go and they spend more time together she is also falling. But can she be in a relationship with a cartel boss?

I have been intrigued in their story from the beginning when we met them in His Kingdom. It was very interesting to read various situations from E‘s POV that have happend in the previous three books.
E is very sweet and loving, although a little over the top in some situations in my opinion ☺️
I love Evie‘s feisty attitude and not backing down in front of E!
This is a very cute ending for the series and I am already invested in the second generation 😍 I would love to see of their children, so I hope we will get their books!

Thank you Kylie Kent for the eARC in exchange for an honest review! ⭐️

This book is unhinged in the quietest, most dangerous way.

Emmanuel is not a hero. He doesn’t seek redemption. He remains hardened, owning his darkness as a cartel boss with blood on his hands and obsession etched into his very being. As for Evie? She’s not weak; she’s broken in a silent, polished way that is disturbingly realistic.

Their connection isn’t cute or healthy. It’s inevitable.

The tension is raw—so intense that one glance feels like a loaded gun. This book is unhinged in the quietest, most dangerous way.

Received an ARC from the author:

Dead or Alive is a dark, tension-filled romance that follows Emmanuel Lopez and Evie in a story built on obsession, control, and unresolved history. Delivering strong morally gray energy and serious touch her and die vibes.

Emmanuel is powerful, possessive, and used to getting what he wants. His dominant nature drives much of the conflict, but there are moments where his loyalty and vulnerability peek through, adding depth to his character. Evie’s past is anything but easy. She’s lived through betrayal, instability, and circumstances that forced her to grow up fast. Carrying emotional scars and hard-earned independence, she doesn’t trust easily and for good reason. Her history shapes every decision she makes, especially when it comes to Emmanuel. She refuses to be owned, even when the chemistry between them is undeniable.

The suspense keeps the story gripping, and the emotional stakes steadily rise as their past and present collide.

We’ve known Emmanuel and Evie were going to be end game since the first book in the Owing Vegas series. The build up to their story was barely enough to satisfy our tastebuds. Finally we get their full story.

How can someone who is so beyond a red flag warning also be the sweetest thing that has ever happened to Evie. The level of protection he gives her, well there was no wonder she had no hope and fell in live with the guy.

Evie was not dealt a good hand at life but this girl is a fighter. She is strong and does not back down or give up. She may not feel like she deserves love but my god does she love others strongly in return. You do not mess with her friends.

This story was amazing. It had love, funny moment, touch her and die (literally), strong FMC and MMC, spicy moments to heat the page and all the red flags your therapist will warn you not to fall in love with.

Bravo

𝐑𝐞𝐯𝐢𝐞𝐰 𝐨𝐟 𝐚𝐝𝐯𝐚𝐧𝐜𝐞 𝐜𝐨𝐩𝐲 𝐫𝐞𝐜𝐞𝐢𝐯𝐞𝐝 𝐟𝐫𝐨𝐦 𝐚𝐮𝐭𝐡𝐨𝐫.

There truly aren’t words for how much I loved this book. I mean to be fair this author doesn’t write anything that I don’t love and full transparency it’s been a little bit since I’ve enjoyed her work. Her writing style is fantastic and gripping and keeps you turning the pages and this story was no different.

Now Emmanuel you giant red flag of a man…I might be in love 😉 one thing I adored about him is that he never lied EVER. Regardless of what it was he was always honest with Evie and it literally made all his other craziness just disappear. Evie this girl is strong and fierce and really the perfect match for E, they are dynamite together.
This story has drama and spice and danger and a twist that had my jaw on the floor. Automatic one click!

Dead or Alive is a gritty, addictive dark romance that perfectly balances an unhinged obsession with a deep, emotionally raw connection. The story follows Evie, a beautiful boutique owner who travels to Vegas where her world collides with Emmanuel—a morally black cartel boss, who decides instantly that Evie is his.

Despite the wreckage of their pasts and walled-off hearts, their relationship is unrelentingly intense and undeniably obsessive—fueled by an inexplicable chemistry and a psychotic Emmanuel who is profoundly sensitive to Evie’s needs. (You’re really going to love Emmanuel in all his unhinged glory!!)

If you crave a dangerous man finding his soulmate—then Kylie Kent’s Dead Or Alive is for you!

I received an advanced copy. This is my honest and voluntary review.
