YAWNING
What a boring ho hum story. Totally unbelievable and not interesting. The only redeeming value is the erotic sex, but he was so pathetic and took away power points even for the sex. First time reading this author, what a let down, however, I will try another historical romance to then determine if I will buy any more books from this author.

I wish we could give half stars - this would be 4 1/2 - not quite a 5. Very involved plot and twists and turns throughout. It took me awhile to enjoy Jancie's continual drive to discover the duplicity of Hugo Galliard. He was her father's partner in a diamond mine in South Africa, but her father was brutally beaten, losing his memory for awhile. Hugo married her father's true love, Olivia and Hugo goes on to lead a prosperous life of a well to do gentlemen, having sons Lujan and Kyger. Too complicated to explain but eventually Jancie marries Lujan and falls in love with him. Much of this is from the perspective of the times when women were expected to be available when wanted, and out of sight when not. A wealth of stolen gems, the mysterious disappearance of Hugo's youngest son, attempts on Lujan's life - lots of story here.

This book took a really long time to get into. In fact, I'm really surprised I finished it. There were numerous times when I thought about just putting it down.
The blurb on the cover says that the author is "The queen of erotic romance." However, for most of the first part of the book, there was hardly any romance at all, much less erotic. When it did reach that part, the main male character was a real a**. I really just wish I could have slapped him over and over again for how he treated the female character and the thoughts he had about her.
I did enjoy that the male character began to grow as a person. The author did a good job of building his character. The book had a twisted kind of happy ending that was enjoyable (and the only reason I gave it two stars). Honestly, I don't expect I'll read anything by this author again.

The guy in this story is a first class jerk. He's extremely selfish and abusive and the woman was incredibally weak willed and weak minded. I was looking forward to the sequel, Kyger's story, he seemed like a nice guy. But, again, I was horribly disappointed. They ended terribly!
