The Game Series, #17 • Standalone Duet • Book 2 of 2 • Hurt/Comfort • Family • M/M+m/m We pick up where we left off in The Memories We Made. While Nathan is drowning in his sorrow, Ash is gearing up to do anything to win his husband back. Including facing his fears. Because let’s be honest, things can’t get worse. Ash has some help too, from a sneaky little brat on a mission, the boy’s own husband, and the friends at Mclean House.
I'm often stoically silent or, if the topic interests me, a chronic rambler. In other words, I can discuss writing forever and ever. Fiction, in particular. The love story—while a huge draw and constantly present—is secondary for me, because there's so much more to writing romance fiction than just making two (or more) people fall in love and have hot sex. There's a world to build, characters to develop, interests to create, and a topic or two to research thoroughly. Every book is a challenge for me, an opportunity to learn something new, and a puzzle to piece together. I want my characters to come to life, and the only way I know to do that is to give them substance—passions, history, goals, quirks, and strong opinions—and to let them evolve. Additionally, I want my men and women to be relatable. That means allowing room for everyday problems and, for lack of a better word, flaws. My characters will never be perfect.
Wait…this was supposed to be about me, not my writing.
I'm a writey person who loves to write. Always wanderlusting, twitterpating, kinking, and geeking. There's time for hockey and cupcakes, too. But mostly, I just love to write.
Okay, WOW! I loved this. Cara so perfectly balanced the relationship dynamics in this. I absolutely love that it was made abundantly clear that the primary partner/relationships were top priority but in a way that didn't make the other dynamics developing feel like they weren't real or meaningful. I love that each previously established couple were so solid in their foundation that the play dynamic just felt so right. Cara really juggled this flawlessly. Jordan and James were the perfect couple for Ash and Nathan to explore with. They all compliment each other so well. Jordan is so adorable and he fits in with the Mclean Brats so well! James was also a gem and I just love him, okay!?
I don't know what else to say besides this was just so perfectly balanced. Cara, I don't know how you do it but you nailed it!!!
This book had me laughing out loud so many times. There is just something about the way Cara writes that just makes me fall so in love with her characters.
Guys.....THIS IS NOT A DRILL!!!!!!!!!!!!!! DO YOU UNDERSTAND WHICH BOOK COMES OUT NEXT!?!?!??!!?!?!?
Seriously, Cara Dee never disappoints. I absolutely am in love with Ash Riley, don’t get me wrong, the others are fantastic and I love them too but Ash just called to me from part one. Ash and Nathan have clearly had their struggles, we observe that journey in book 1, we meet Jordan and James, a married couple who become friends with Ash (James also works for Ash). In this book we finally see Nathan get back on board with Ash and the two couples getting close. The love these four have for their respective partners, ugh so beautiful. I love all four of them. And whoa, this book is steamy, I love the humiliation and degradation kink and just wanted more! These four left me wanting for more, more, more! Besides the heat and love, we had lots of laughs, smiles and heartwarming family moments, with some sad and emotionally hard moments too. This community just makes me so happy and I love getting lost in their world and revisiting all my favorite characters. Cara Dee is such an amazing talent and writes the best characters, amazing plot and always hits me in the feels. I loved this second book and it just made me want to dive right back into the game series and start over at book one.
3ish stars? Better than book 1, but miles away from Dee's typical hurt/comfort angst.
“Are you ready for Daddy to stretch you out?”
It was fun to see everyone else at the McLean House! The vandalism mystery wasn't solved, but we got a fun interrogation play scene with Ash and Shay.
“It’s very big, Daddy,” I admitted. “I’m just a little guy.”
This duology lacked the painful punch I was expecting. I was hoping this one would crank up the angst after finishing book 1 feeling like I just had a quick rundown of their relationship history. Book 1 was a lot of flashbacks starting from when they met 20 years ago, and skipping ahead every couple years with a chapter of background highlights.
“We’ll make it fit,” he murmured. “It’ll hurt.” “I sure hope so.”
Don't get me wrong, all the kinks are there, and watching the two married couples play together was excellent. It just didn't get me emotional at all, nowhere near the pain and suffering levels in the This Will Hurt duology.
Daddy leaned over me and nipped at my earlobe. “I’ll make sure it hurts.”
For anyone new to The Game series, they can mostly be read in any order, but by book 11 you need to have read several books in order to follow the background chaos of 15-20 prominent side characters.
I'm really looking forward to book 19, At Their Mercy, with Shay, River and Reese. (Sequel to Breathless)

DNF - This is the first book in the series that I've chosen not to finish. My frustration was never that Ash discovered he wanted something more from his life or that Nate correctly recognized a part of him that had been suppressed. Those realizations could have made for a compelling and emotional second-chance romance.
The problem is the narrative appears determined to frame Nate as being right about everything while placing nearly all of the responsibility on Ash.
By the point where I stopped reading, Ash was apologizing, taking ownership of the marriage's collapse, acknowledging that Nate was right all along, and regretting that he hadn't been "braver." Meanwhile, the story seemed far more interested in validating Nate's choices than examining them.
What I wanted was nuance. I wanted a story where Ash could admit he had fears and blind spots while Nate could acknowledge that being right about someone's desires does not give you the right to make decisions for them. Instead, the emotional weight felt increasingly one-sided.
The conflict, as I experienced it, wasn't about whether Ash eventually wanted to explore being a Daddy Dom. It was about autonomy. Ash repeatedly communicated what he wanted, and Nate repeatedly decided he knew better and blew up their marriage over it. Those are two separate issues, and for me the book blurred that distinction in a way I couldn't get behind.
The final straw was realizing that the wrong person appeared to be doing the groveling. Rather than a mutual reckoning where both men confronted the hurt they caused, I was reading scene after scene that felt designed to vindicate Nate and place the burden of apology on Ash.
Unfortunately, once I saw where the story was heading, I no longer had any desire to continue.
I can have this serie any time at any moment 😍 I will always love it. I am emotionally attached to them ♥️
It was beautiful, seeing them falling in love, surrendering their fears, being brave and letting go 🥰 beautiful ! Seeing the whole McLean family warmed my heart once again and I cannot wait for the next book because it’s my favorite trio 😍
First of all, thank you to Cara Dee for the opportunity to read this ARC.
After absolutely loving The Memories We Made, I was beyond excited to jump back into Ash and Nathan's story. That first book completely destroyed me emotionally and was an easy 5-star read. It was raw, heartbreaking, and impossible to put down.
This one didn't quite reach those same emotional heights for me, but I still loved it and devoured it in a single day.
My biggest issue was that I felt like I was missing part of the reconciliation. We spend a lot of time watching Ash and Nathan struggle separately, which worked really well. The hurt, distance, and uncertainty all felt believable, and seeing how deeply the separation affected both of them was heartbreaking. But once they finally reconnect, everything seems to fall into place very quickly. After everything they'd been through, I wanted more conversations, more rebuilding of trust, and more of the messy process of finding each other again.
Instead, it sometimes felt like they had one major breakthrough and suddenly everything was okay. They're back together, telling the kids, moving forward, and exploring new possibilities almost immediately. Considering how significant their separation was, I found myself wanting more of the communication and emotional work that got them from broken apart to fully reunited.
That said, I was never bored. Not once. I was completely invested from beginning to end because I care so much about these characters. Ash and Nathan remain two of my favorite characters in the entire series, and seeing them find their way back to each other was still incredibly rewarding.
I also think part of my feelings come from comparing it to The Memories We Made. That book set an incredibly high bar and emotionally wrecked me in the best possible way. This one is more focused on healing than heartbreak, and while that's a beautiful thing, it didn't quite hit me with the same intensity as their origin story.
One of the things I love most about The Game universe is that the stories never truly end. We continue to see these characters in future books, watch their families grow, and get little glimpses into their lives years later. It's become such a comfort series for me, and no matter how many books Cara Dee adds to this world, I don't think I'll ever get tired of returning to it.
So while this wasn't quite the emotional knockout that The Memories We Made was for me, it was still a beautiful continuation of Ash and Nathan's journey, and I loved every moment I got to spend with them.
And now I'm already looking forward to the next book. Returning to the tenley triad is something I've been waiting for for a long time, and I can't wait to finally dive into the next part of their story.
This entire review has been hidden because of spoilers.
The Time We Have Left is the continuation of Ash and Nathan's story. It's imperative that The Memories We Made be read first in order to make sense of this one.
This installment picks up right where Memories left off with Ash finally allowing himself to explore all aspects of himself after not doing so for decades and losing Nathan in the process. He definitely needed the kick to the teeth Nathan gave but also the push Jordan and James (mainly Jordan) give him. I liked that he allowed himself to be open and as such was able to finally go after the life he really wants and to get his marriage back. I appreciated that Ash and Nathan talked and worked out how much neither wanted a divorce and that the separation needed to end. The gradual coming back together for the Rileys and their exploration with Jordan and James was good. I wanted more of their dynamic as a group but definitely more of James because I felt as though with his particular needs, he faded a bit in the dynamics and was lost. I found him and what he needed interesting and because they're needs not often explored, I missed connecting with him but also him connecting with The Rileys. A big missing piece in this dynamic for me so it affects the rating.
As always, Cara did a great job with Nathan and Ash's relationship with their kids and how that informed their relationships. The Mclean House crew are always a hoot but I will say that I don't care about or really enjoy the brat prank stuff. In this particular story it took up some really important real estate that could have been used to better solidify the foursome being established and to get to know James and Jordan. I just don't care about the brat stuff. If there is anything that I always roll my eyes at, it's that stuff. It's repetitive and tired after so many books especially when everything else is so well explored. I get that it's a bit of fun but... yeah. Not a fan.
Even with the short shrift in parts and some unnecessary detours, I enjoyed the time with Nathan and Ash and really invested in how their story unfolded. Excitement is off the charts for the next book as it is Tenley time! Recommend.
Do not read this book without reading the first one, The Memories We Made. Since this book picks up where the last one ended,be warned that there will probably be spoilers if you continue reading from here.
While I knew that the author would find a way to bring Nathan and Ash back together somehow, I was still very worried that it was not going to be possible. I understood why Nathan took a stand in the last book, but it was hard watching them both be miserable and lose the communication skills they had been so careful to cultivate for so long. They came so close to losing what made them both whole.
Ash's interactions with his new neighbors, Jason and Jordan, was the push he needed. Ash started to see a path that included his core kink while keeping his husband in his life. It still took some doing. I had been waiting for Nathan or Ash to finally have a blunt conversation about things, and the circumstances that finally made it happen were uncomfortable but necessary. I loved how Ash finally demanded they talk and was crystal clear about everything. I was glad that they both had good chemistry with Jason and Jordan, and they sorted out their own relationship. It may have seemed too easy for them to reconcile so quickly, but their love for each other was never the problem, and they didn't really have smooth sailing until Nathan felt more connected to Jason and Jordan and the dynamics between them all. I was happy they all found a way to fulfill each other while keeping their marriages intact.
I would have been happy to keep reading more about Nathan, Ash, Jason, and Jordan, as well as the rest of the members of the Mclean community. I am already really looking forward to the next book in the series. Time cannot move fast enough for the release date of that book.

This book was provided to me by Eliza Services and Cara Dee in return for an honest review. These opinions are my own.
3.5/5 stars
Giving this book such a middling score feels like a bit of a disservice to an excellent writer and beloved series, but here we are.
I really liked Ash, Nate, Jordan, and James as characters. I enjoyed seeing their different relationships and how they collectively came together. I think Dee did a great job of exploring the hardships of a long relationship and how something seemingly small (at first) can fester. Particularly how pride and stubbornness can make things seem one way when they’re actually another.
My primary grievance with this book is that, ultimately, The Game series is about a kink group and their linked year long events. While I understand why these characters don’t participate in the game event, I do feel like the story lacks the same heat as others in the series. There’s a lot of talking about what they’re into, and off page implications, but it’s not something the reader sees very much of.
I get that the integration of kink in people’s lives varies but it mostly feels like a tease in this book. The emphasis went so far into the domestic side of things that the reader doesn’t get that same sense of the dynamic or to explore the kinks through the characters. This isn’t the first instance of this. I feel like it was similar with Parts of Us (The Game #14) which also was a bit of a let down (I was so psyched for that one).
None of this is to say it’s a bad book - it’s definitely not - just that I wish there was more balance. It seems to be a trend as the series goes on that the kink (sexual or otherwise) is falling a bit to the wayside.
The other thing - 16 and 17 should be one book. I can understand why they’d be separated for ease of publishing but The Memories We Made (The Game #16) is incomplete without The Time We Have Left (The Game #17).
This second installment of Ash and Nathan's story starts right where the first book left off. We're in the present in this book, and we get to see them come back together. Thank goodness!
Nathan and Ash fell apart because Nathan hated that Ash wouldn't explore his core kink for fear of hurting their relationship. But then he meets Jason and Jordan, and everything kind of just falls into place. Which is sweet...but also feels pretty unrealistic. Like okay, Ash understands how much of himself he'd been denying, now he opens up that part of himself, and everything is fine? It's a little too clean and perfect for my tastes, unfortunately.
There is a LOT more steam this installment so if you were missing that, don't fear! It's a lot of the same ole same ole kink wise, from what Cara's been writing lately - but if that's your favorite, you're going to love the scenes we get. It's starting to feel a little tired and monotonous to me, but some of the kinks really aren't my thing which just highlights that for me.
We get plenty of House McClean, brats and sadists which I loved! This book is more game-adjacent since they don't really participate in the game at all.
This review feels pretty meh because I feel kind of meh about this duet. I *liked* it because I like everything Cara writes. But I think this series is getting tired - it is starting to feel like a rinse and repeat which sucks because I absolutely am obsessed with the earlier books.
This book is deeply emotional, beautifully written, and impossible to put down.
This is a story about enduring love, second chances, and the courage it takes to confront fears that have been buried for years. Ash and Nathan are not perfect characters, and that’s exactly what makes them so compelling. After nearly two decades together, four children, countless memories, and a lifetime of shared experiences, they find themselves facing challenges that can’t be solved by love alone. We watch them navigate heartbreak, regret, hope and healing.
Ash’s determination to fight for the future he wants is both inspiring and heartbreaking, while Nathan’s vulnerability and emotional journey make him impossible not to root for. Their connection remains palpable on every page, even in their most difficult moments.
This isn’t just a romance about falling in love. It’s about staying in love, growing together, making mistakes, and deciding whether a relationship is worth fighting for when life becomes complicated.
I laughed, smiled, felt my heart ache, and found myself completely invested in every step of Ash and Nathan’s journey. The payoff is powerful, heartfelt, and worth every emotional moment that comes before it.
If you enjoy character-driven romances, mature relationships, found family, emotional healing, and stories that stay with you long after the last page, this book is an absolute must-read.

5+++ stars for both books. I’m in awe, this was such an amazing duet within The Games series.. In part one, Nathan and Ash broke up after being together for more than 20 years and having 4 children. Both are Doms. Over the years, Ash was fully committed to his family and his company.
In their core Nathan and Ash are kinky. Nathan insisted that Ash had to explore his kink side, his Daddy Dom side, because it's essentially who he is. Ash is happy with how his life is, and isn’t waiting for uncertainty. After the umpteenth fight between them about Nathan pushing Ash, and he felt Nate didn’t respect his choices, he was done, hurt, he packed his stuff and left. Both committed to their family and determined to do the separation in the best possible way for the children.
Part two is where Nate is afraid he lost Ash forever. Not aware Ash thought the same. Both stubborn and still madly in love with the other.
The process of this all was amazingballs written!
Ash bought a new house. Ash’s employee James, and his husband Jordan, are his neighbours. He also found his way back to the Mclean House and the awesome members. It seems his neighbours are kinky too.
What the author did was write the best story I could hope for. I was so happy with how everything developed. No further words about this. It was just the best of the best! The others from this series are here too! Awesomeness! If you are familiar with this author you know it will be sooo good! After part one, my heart was broken, after part two, I closed this book with a mended heart and a satisfying goofy smile.
“The Time We Have Left” is the sequel to “The Memories We Made” and should definitely be read in order. After reading the first book, I was really curious to see what would happen next with Nate and Ash. Luckily, I didn’t have to wait too long. The author’s writing style is wonderful as always, and I was quickly drawn into the pain of their breakup that both Nate and Ash are feeling. Both are suffering greatly, but they’re doing their best for the sake of the children. No wonder—as a reader, I saw in the first book just how important family is to them. I empathized with them all the more because it’s so obvious they still love each other. Fortunately, they grew closer again in this story after the two stubborn souls finally talked things out. I was also really looking forward to the story of James and Jordan, who are slowly opening up to Ash and discussing their ideas with him. Jordan is cute and I liked him right from the start, and Ash immediately switched into “daddy” mode. I liked the dynamic that developed between the four of them because it felt natural, and yes, I’d definitely love to read more about them! The story kept me thoroughly entertained: there was plenty of heartbreak, but also lighthearted moments, and some of them were really sweet. The healing process was portrayed realistically and authentically, and of course there were a few steamy scenes as well. Once I started, I read the story in one sitting.
The Time We Have left is Part 2 of the Remember Us duet within The Game series
This is your vibe if you like: MM/MM Hurt/comfort Found family
I don't think Cara Dee can disappoint me when it comes to this world. One of my favourite things about The Game Series is that we don't just get an HEA for the couple at the centre of the story, we get to keep checking in with all the characters we've fallen in love with along the way. It feels like never having to say goodbye to a world that means so much.
Ash and Nathan absolutely wrecked my feelings in The Memories We Made, but this book felt much more like the vibe I've come to expect from the series. There are still a few emotional moments, but at its core it's everything I love about these books: positive kink, found family, and a reminder that it's always about love.
I also really enjoyed Jordan and James. They were adorable, and I wouldn't complain if Cara Dee decided to give us a novella from their POV one day.
And if you're a longtime fan of the series, keep an eye out for a few little Easter eggs. Whether they're hints at what's coming next or I'm just letting my wishful thinking run wild because of TenShay moments, I'm choosing to be hopeful.
As always, spending time with these characters felt like coming home.
This book is a nice balance between angst and spicy fun. The brats hit this month's Game hard and have so much fun. It's a good foil for Ash and Nathan finding themselves back to each other and into a brand new polycule.
This is not a stand alone as it picks up where Ash and Nathan broke up, as well as continuing the game story line for Mclean House. And as the happier ending part of a duet it is a very satisfying story. But it does continue the flash back/present style for them to repair a relationship on the brink of divorce.
The time skip format is not my favorite, but Cara Dee is one of a handful of authors who does it well. I'll read the style from her every time because it's not just a gimmick to add tension. It's the best way to showcase a relationship that is decades in the making and breaking. And Cara always delivers a good HEA.
Glimpses of our favorites from Mclean are a given. I was happy to see this book is a fully fleshed out Game novel. It features most of the founder's dynamics and continues the secret project of Shay and Penelope. All and all a very good Game with new faces.
Plenty of spice, lots of angst, I shed a tear or two, and it tees up the next month well. A great part of this amazing series. I can't wait to read more about these four in future books.

Before reading this, I reread my review for The Memories We Made, not because I forgot how Nate and Ash’s story had played out so far, but because I wanted to immerse myself back into the feelings in the book: the angst, the pining, the loneliness, the memories, the absolute love and belonging these two felt with each other. I knew how hard fought this happy ending would be, and it did not disappoint.
I’m finding it a bit difficult to not get spoilery, so I’ll just mention a few things.
The way Cara hit on the very real fact that fears, while understandable and often unavoidable, always seem much more debilitating in theory than facing them in reality with someone you trust and love. Having a solid foundation along with open communication can ease many of those fears, or at least make them manageable.
I loved getting to know Jordan and James…while I am always the biggest fan of crossovers to see my favorite people pop up everywhere, I really enjoyed getting to know some “new” folks to the community and how they fit in with all those we already know and love.
I absolutely love that McClean House has a place for everyone.
The Time We Have Left made every second of pain from book one absolutely worth it. I can’t wait to see more of this happy little foursome in the future.

Ash refuses to give up on Nathan, chasing him down with twenty years of love and determination, driving him forward. He knows he broke something precious, but he’s finally ready to fix it — even if he’s scared and worn down. With the encouragement of two friends, especially one feisty switch who insists Nathan still loves him, Ash realises the truth he’s been avoiding: they’re meant to be together. Not just Ash and Nathan, but the four of them, forming something new and right. Nothing is going to stop him from fighting for the future they all deserve.
This was such an emotional read — full of thoughts, doubts, hopes, and all the messy feelings that make a relationship feel real. I loved watching Nathan and Ash finally understand that they were always meant to be together, and that opening their relationship to include two trusted friends wasn’t a complication but a natural, gentle step forward. What really worked for me was how clearly the story explained their emotional landscape. Their connection and intimacy were never the problem; it was simply that their needs and kinks had a missing piece that only someone else could help complete. The book handled that with warmth and clarity, making it easy to read, easy to feel, and easy to understand. This was an MM and MMMM story with mature content and a BDSM-like D/s and DDLB dynamics.
I have zero interest in experiencing personally the vast majority of kinks that Cara writes about but my lawd do I love reading them!
This is the immediate follow-up to The Memories We Made and it picks up where that left off - with Ash realising Nathan had been right all along.
You'll get no spoilers here, but the way Cara draws them back together works so beautifully and completely fits their dynamic that i had a huge smile on my face throughout this book.
Jordan and James are the absolute perfect pair to seamlessly slot into Ash & Nathan's lives and provide them with the missing pieces Nathan knew they needed.
Of course there's some teething issues but all four men ultimately want the same thing, a life in which they are all together in their various dynamics.
There's plenty of humour in this instalment too, which goes a long way to make up for the extra angsty bits of the first book!
And, this time, I have to say these two do deserve being split into a duet as it's essentially two separate time periods in Ash & Nathan's lives.
Finally, there's plenty of guest appearances from all our favourites McLean House members and some smoking hot encounters that really drive the temperature up!
#ARC kindly received from the author, I am voluntarily leaving a review.
This was such a satisfying conclusion to Ash and Nathan's story. After everything they went through in the first book, I was completely invested in seeing whether they could find their way back to each other, and the emotional payoff was absolutely worth it.
Ash was once again the standout character for me. His determination to fight for his marriage, even when it meant facing his own fears and insecurities, made him impossible not to root for. Nathan's journey wasn't an easy one either, and I appreciated that his healing wasn't rushed. Their reconciliation felt earned because they both had to put in the work.
One of my favourite parts of the book was the sense of community. The friendships, family moments, and support from the people around them added so much warmth to the story. It reminded me why I love this series so much, every time I return, it feels like catching up with old friends.
The chemistry between the couples is fantastic, balancing emotional intimacy with plenty of steam, while the humour helps lighten some of the heavier moments. I laughed, teared up, and smiled more than once as everyone rallied around each other.

I was quite relieved that I could pick up this one instantly after finishing The Memories We Made - I was so invested in Nate and Ash's story! Cara Dee definitely turned up the angst and heartbreak here, but I loved how it all worked out in the end.
Nate and Ash were both struggling with the separation, and the pining / yearning was a lot at times. The way they hurt being apart was heartbreaking, but it was still obvious how much they loved each other. After seeing how great they were together and with the strong family focus in the first part, it was a bit difficult for me to grasp how they ended up lonely and hurting. They were definitely too stubborn for their own good, and it was a huge relief once they actually talked things out and reconciled.
As much as I loved Nate and Ash together, I was very curious about their relationships / dynamics with Jordan and James. It was a slow burn, Jordan and James were tiptoeing around Ash at first and only hinting about wanting more with him. It was easy to adore Jordan though, and how Ash pretty much instantly went into Daddy mode around him. It was sweet seeing them all connect, and I especially enjoyed the spark between Jordan and Nate during the demo. The dynamics between the four of them felt natural, and I’d love to see more of them once they’ve had the chance to get more familiar and settled with each other.
The Time We Have Left was a fantastic sequel to The Memories We Made, and I was pretty much glued to my Kindle for all of Ash and Nate’s journey. There were a lot of lighthearted and sweet moments mixed in with the heartbreak and high levels of yearning and longing. Things also got steamier in this part, and the way Ash and Nate made Jordan fall apart at the event? Super hot!
I have so much love for this series, and if you haven’t picked it up yet I highly recommend checking it out!
- I received a complimentary copy of this book, and these are my honest thoughts and opinions.
Nathan and Ash broke me in their first book and this conclusion did not let me off the hook. Cara Dee has a rare gift for allowing her characters to be fully human — to make mistakes, to sit in them, and to genuinely grow without it ever feeling rushed or unearned. That quality is on full display here.
What anchors this book is how clearly these two love each other. Nathan has always wanted Ash to live life without regrets, and when Ash finally understands what Nathan has been trying to tell him all along, it is wonderful. The friendship Ash builds with coworker James and his husband Jordan becomes the unexpected vehicle for that understanding. Two people from the outside gently illuminating what has been true all along is exactly the kind of storytelling Cara Dee does so well.
Seeing the McLean House characters again felt like coming home, and their presence adds warmth and continuity to a story that carries considerable emotional weight.
My only wish is that we had gotten more time with Nathan, Ash, James and Jordan together. I look forward to seeing them in the rest of the books.
Ash finally embraces his inner Daddy, while Nathan is still struggling with insecurities and uncertainty about their relationship. I was so happy when they finally sat down, talked things through, and found their way back to each other. Watching the kids quietly cross their fingers and hope that Dad and Dad were truly back together melted my heart.
James and Jordan are absolutely adorable. They’re hungry for the love, stability, and family that Ash and Nathan can give them, and they make a wonderful addition to the story. James living in his onesies was one of my favorite running themes, and the scenes of James and Jordan playing with Ash and Nathan was just hot.
It was also great to visit House McLean again and catch up with the brats. I’m still dying to know who is writing “soon” throughout the house!
At its core, this is a story about communication, love, strength, friendship, and having the courage to look within yourself. The characters aren’t perfect, but they’re willing to grow, learn, and fight for the people they love. An emotional, heartwarming read that left me smiling by the end. ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐
I received this ARC from Booksprout and voluntarily leaving my review.
This is the second book of Nathan and Ash relationship and for me this book felt like coming home after a long trip because we have had a glimpse of Nathan and Ash for a while now and after their first book which gave us a proper introduction to the couple as well as the cause of their marital problems which led to separation, I was anxiously waiting to see how Cara is going to resolve the issues in this book and I can honestly say it was more than I was expecting how well it went even though in some parts it might have felt a bit rushed. Without spoiling the book, I can honestly say it was worth the wait and I loved the how Jordan and James fit into the story, it didn’t feel forced at all and honestly part of me wanted a longer book so that I can experience their intertwined relationship more. I love the way Cara has the ability to open my eyes into different types of relationships that I would never have thought possible and make it so easy to understand why the relationship work. It was a great reading experience and I thoroughly enjoyed every bit of it.

This is the second book of Nathan and Ash relationship and for me this book felt like coming home after a long trip because we have had a glimpse of Nathan and Ash for a while now and after their first book which gave us a proper introduction to the couple as well as the cause of their marital problems which led to separation, I was anxiously waiting to see how Cara is going to resolve the issues in this book and I can honestly say it was more than I was expecting how well it went even though it felt rushed in some place. Cara Dee gives us everything we’ve been needing since book one and doesn’t draw or stretch anything out - there is so much happening in this book ! The way she balances the two distinct parts of this story is perfection. Nate and Ash reconnecting and their family and then integrating with James and Jordan.
Things would fall into place as we suspected in book 1 with this being a two couple MMMM dynamic but in typical game series style it’ll give u all the fuzzy feels and toe curling chemistry and a tonne of banter which is what makes this series unique - yes it’s kink positive, yes it’s found family but the characters and their dynamics is what makes this a pleasure to read always.
There is ofcourse a new prank, a new event and some foreshadowing for the coming book. I can’t wait honestly I need to know so much. As usual I loved seeing everyone at House McLean it was lovely to be back. Also as usual I’m super hungry after reading a Cara Dee book. If she ever came out with a recipe book you can bet I’d be getting that
What can I say about another great Cara Dee book in this amazing series. I was waiting for this second book in the duet to come out before I read the 1st book because I knew it would destroy my heart. Yes you have to read the first book to read this wonderful and amazing 2nd book. Sorry, but if you have read Cara Dee in the past you know she loves her characters. Shares all the good and bad as well as all the passion, emotion and steamy times. “The game series” world is just a wonderful BDSM/real life world with all the many characters being so well written you become a bit obsessed. Ok in this book we see how Ash our boy from Philly and Nathan his soulmate work their way back to each other. The reunion was everything and the rest of the book explored the new dynamics that completed several families. I can only say READ THE WHOLE DARN SERIES….I highly recommend this book and the entire series. Enjoy!
Cara Dee returns to the story of Nathan and Ash with their Part II, The Time We Have Left. Nathan and Ash definitely don't want to get divorced, but now they need to figure out how to bring their family back together. And maybe grow it a little in the process.
This story picks up immediately after Part I and cannot be read as a standalone. This duet can standalone within The Game series, though each story does build on character introductions and relationships from the previous book.
This was a feel-good way to wrap Nathan and Ash's featured stories. Jordan and James complemented them well and seemed to be incorporated seamlessly into the existing dynamic. Once the mental blocks were out of the way, there was good, open communication between everyone.
As always, I'm spoiled by each new Cara Dee publication and will read whatever she comes up with next.
Ash and Nathan’s journey was emotional, frustrating, beautiful, and so incredibly worth it. After everything they’ve been through, seeing them finally face their fears and fight for each other was both heartbreaking and heartwarming.
Cara Dee has a way of making characters feel real, and I was completely invested in every page (as per usual with her books). The love, the family moments, the friendships, and the healing all came together perfectly. I laughed, cried, and honestly didn’t want the story to end.
This wasn’t just a romance, it was a story about choosing each other again and again, even when it’s hard. The ending left me with the biggest smile and a very full heart.
One of my favorite books in the series and a perfect conclusion to Ash and Nathan’s story. Highly recommend from a die hard Cara Dee fan.

So I had to re-read part one because I wanted everything fresh in my mind to read this one and I’m glad I did because it starts right where book one left off.
I don’t know how Cara does it, but I feel like I’m part of the community, I feel like every single character is an old friend. I would LOVE to be a wallflower out at Mclean and just soak up the vibe… and, ngl, totally perv on everyone. Thankfully I can live vicariously though my Cara books.
I thought we were nearing the end of the Game series but totally squeed to see there is definitely one more plus possibly three more after that planned. I’m not ready to let any of my boys (and girls) go.
Highly recommend. Definitely best enjoyed in series order but also needs to be read after part one (you’d miss out on so much if you just jumped in).
