Blood of Scourge and Sparrow

Rate this book
On the continent of Sulár, shadows rule as surely as crowns. Guilds whisper in alleys, nobles scheme in council halls, and prophecy stirs in the blood of the forgotten.
Raia, a lost girl with no memory of her past, bears the sigils of fae ability upon her flesh, shifting with iridescent light, and a stubborn fire that refuses to be broken. Haunted by instincts she cannot explain and powers she cannot yet control, she fights for her place among the Emerald Sparrow Guild, where loyalty is the only coin worth more than gold.
Alistaire, once a disciplined soldier of the Sulárian Army, now a trusted Hand of the Emerald Sparrow, wears his cynicism like armor. Bound by duty, and sharpened by loss, he finds himself drawn into Raia’s orbit, where his soldier’s precision collides with her reckless defiance.
But the guild is only a fragment of a larger game. The Scourge, leader of the Veilborn, a figure cloaked in shadow and terror, weaves his influence through the city, while whispers of the Sparrow intwine with lines of an ancient prophecy. As the kingdom stirs, and a foreign king sails for Sulár’s shores, Raia and Alistaire find themselves caught in a struggle that could unmake the balance of power and awaken truths long buried.
In a world where nothing is sacred, faith is weaponized, loyalty tested, and blood acts as the final bargaining chip, the Sparrow may rise to determine whether the Scourge ushers in ruin…or redemption.

Rebecca Turner is a lifelong storyteller, devoted reader, and unapologetic lover of all things books. Born and raised in Southern California, she has been crafting stories since childhood — spinning tales long before she ever imagined one would sit on a shelf. Her imagination has always been a place of refuge, rich with immersive worlds and characters who refused to remain unwritten.

Blood of Scourge and Sparrow marks her debut novel and the first installment in The Emerald Sparrow series — an epic fantasy woven with faith, betrayal, and soul-deep devotion.

Rebecca’s literary loves span classic literature, sweeping fantasy, and historical fiction, each shaping the layered worlds and emotionally driven characters she creates today. She is also an identical twin, sharing a lifelong bond with her sister — and a shared gift for building spellbinding realms and stories.

By day, Rebecca works full-time at a community college alongside the most incredible coworkers she could ask for. By night (and often very early mornings), she can be found lost in writing, world-building, and chasing the next spark of story.

When she steps away from the page, Rebecca finds joy in wandering through nature, tending to her beloved collection of furry and scaled companions, and keeping up with her two larger-than-life teenage sons.

Wow! What an epic fantasy novel! First time author, Rebecca Turner, writes a brilliant tome of adventure, magic, loss, heartbreak, humor, bravery, wicked lust, and pure love. The world building is phenomenal and easy to fall into. Buckle up and clear your calendar because once you start, it’s difficult to put down! An engaging story of good versus evil that leaves you anxious and anticipating book two. Highly recommended!

⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ An absolute masterpiece!
Blood of Scourge and Sparrow is an incredible epic fantasy novel. The world-building is truly phenomenal, and the way the author unfolds the secrets while masterfully developing the plot kept me completely hooked from start to finish. I am obsessed with Raia—she is such a compelling FMC with a personality that leaps off the page. I’m so relieved to know that Rebecca is already working on book two because I need it like yesterday!

There are books you enjoy, and then there are books that feel personal, like they were written with heart so visible on every page that you can’t help but carry pieces of it with you. The Blood of Scourge and Sparrow is firmly in that second category.

From the very beginning, the story pulls you in with a secret intensity that builds into something unforgettable. The world is richly imagined, layered with detail and atmosphere, but it never overshadows what truly makes this book shine: its emotional core. Every moment feels intentional, every scene grounded in something real, whether it’s love, fear, resilience, or the ache of becoming who you’re meant to be.

The characters are where this book truly soars. They are not just compelling, they feel alive. You don’t simply follow their journey, you invest in it. Their struggles feel personal, their growth feels earned, and their relationships carry a depth that lingers long after you’ve turned the last page. There is a vulnerability in how they’re written that makes their triumphs all the more powerful.

What’s especially striking is the balance between beauty, intrigue, and grit. The writing itself has a lyrical quality, effortlessly elegant, yet it doesn’t shy away from the harsher edges of the story. That contrast creates a reading experience that is both immersive and emotionally resonant.

You can feel the passion, the care, and the dedication poured into every chapter. It is the kind of book that has a lingering impact, not just because it is well written, but because it means something.

This is not just a strong debut for a series, it is the kind of beginning that promises something truly special ahead. If this is where the journey starts, I can only imagine how powerful the rest will be. I can see the future of this book series, gracing the movie screens one day with its characters.

This book does not just deserve to be read, it deserves to be felt.

Let me start by saying WOW!

Blood of Scourge and Sparrow grabbed me from the very first pages and refused to let go. The main character is thrown into a world she doesn’t understand, and from that moment on, I was completely hooked, desperate to follow her every step.

The writing is sharp and clever, with moments of witty wordplay that had me laughing out loud. But what truly stayed with me was how real everything felt. The characters pulse with life. Their fears, lust, anger, sorrow, and messy vulnerabilities drip from the page. Nothing is clean or tidy, and that’s exactly what made it so powerful. The emotional beats hit deep and lingered long after I’d closed the book. Though they often pulled me right back in because I had to know what happened next.

I was especially drawn to the side characters. They don’t feel like plot devices; they feel like fully fleshed-out people with their own rich histories. I found myself genuinely invested in their backstories, even the villains. One in particular, a woman who weaponizes her sexual prowess in her ruthless pursuit of power, haunted me. I knew I was supposed to hate her, but I couldn’t. Instead, I kept wondering what had broken her so badly in the first place.

At its heart, this is a story about love, raw, complicated love, and the deep fear of abandonment that comes with it. Watching that relationship unfold absolutely tugged at my heartstrings.

There’s action, intrigue, heat, and intensity, yes, but what makes this book special is the story. It’s layered, emotional, and so damn good. I could see it playing out perfectly on the big screen.

If you love character-driven fantasy with heart, soul, and a bit of bite, I cannot recommend Blood of Scourge and Sparrow highly enough.

Ooof. Such a fantastic read! Book 2 needs to be in my hands immediately!
As a huge fan of Jordan, Sanderson, Tolkien, and all things fantasy this book easily belongs on the same shelf!
It felt like a mash up of when the moon hatched, the wheel of time, and Skyrim all rolled into one delicious book.
The world building was rich and the characters were so well written I found myself thinking about them outside of my reading time. (I adore Raia and I’m so curious about Seraphina’s backstory) This book has it all—action, magic, love, loss, spice—and I thoroughly enjoyed fully immersing myself in Turners world!
The writing was the perfect balance of precision and lyrical which kept me up reading to problematic hours lol
And I have to say, the guilds were reminiscent of Skyrim and satisfied my nostalgic inner nerd.
I’m a huge fan, and I wouldn’t be surprised if this series rises up to become the next big thing!

⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐
My first 6 star read of the year!!!!!
I loved Blood of Scourge and Sparrow. It had the kind of emotional, addictive storytelling that kept me turning pages way later than I planned. There were moments that were dark and intense, but the book is definitely not all darkness. It has heart, tenderness, tension, and more than one scene that genuinely brought me to tears.
The characters felt layered and real, and I was invested in them from the beginning. The world was dangerous and immersive, but what stood out most was the emotional depth underneath everything. The author knows how to balance pain, beauty, action, and hope in a way that feels natural instead of forced.
Rebecca is a fantastic writer, and this book completely pulled me in. I cannot wait for book two, Girl hurry up! lol I neeeeeed it!

I enjoyed this book. I connected with Raia. She doesn’t know who she is or where she came from, and that confusion mixed with her strength made her feel very real. You can feel how badly she wants to belong, especially in the Emerald Sparrow Guild, and it makes you root for her. Alistaire was just as interesting in a different way. He’s guarded, but as he starts to care about Raia, you see those walls slowly come down. Their relationship felt natural. Even with all the action and bigger threats happening, the characters are what really stood out to me and will keep you invested.
