On the Road to Vengeance: A Historical Western Adventure Novel

Rate this book
When the dam breaks above Thornton’s Creek, Jim Thornton loses everything. His parents are gone, his ranch is washed away, and his fiancée abandons him for a richer man. All that remains are a handful of desperate survivors, a herd of suspiciously branded cattle, and two hundred miles of unforgiving Colorado wilderness.

Sarah Mitchell is no stranger to hardship and loss. When disaster strikes, she organizes the frightened townsfolk, tends the wounded, and refuses to give in to despair. She sees through Jim’s doubts and recognizes the leader he does not yet believe he can become.

Jim never asked to lead anyone, but the survivors’ only hope lies in reaching a distant railhead. As they drive the cattle west, a ruthless syndicate sends hired guns to reclaim what they call stolen property. With enemies closing fast and the wilderness against them, can Jim and Sarah get their people to safety before the trail claims them all?

Cattle Drive, Orphan Hero, Against natural elements, Found Family.

"On the Road to Vengeance" is a historical adventure novel of approximately 80,000 words. No cliffhangers, only pure unadulterated action.

On the eve of his engagement, Jim Thornton's world shatters when a catastrophic dam collapse unleashes a devastating 30-foot wall of water that obliterates the mining town. In mere minutes, his family's ranch, the barn, and the entire community vanish beneath the merciless torrent. With over 200 survivors left shell-shocked and traumatized, they are forced to abandon their destroyed hometown, leaving behind unrecoverable bodies and contaminated water sources.

Gathering what meager possessions remain, the survivors begin a grueling 200-mile journey to the nearest railhead. Along the way, they discover a herd of cattle, most bearing the Thornton brand, which they drive forward as their lifeline and potential means of survival. Their fragile hope is immediately challenged when Elias Cross dispatches his ruthless gunslingers to claim the herd, asserting ownership and threatening the survivors' already precarious existence.

The journey becomes a complex tapestry of survival, featuring emerging romantic tensions, vulnerable orphans, and the lurking threat of a hidden traitor within their ranks, transforming their desperate exodus into a gripping tale of human resilience.

Fight for Justice

Follow a flood that wiped out a town and took many lives, the town came together. After traveling many miles and facing danger on all sides they fine justice for the tragedy. It's well written and I appreciate the fact that not a lot of bad language was used.

Good western

Had a lot of heart along with loss, death and a romance that just evolved. Cute kids and bravery with heartbreak and gun battles. Betrayal you name it’s in this book.

Unrealistic story but pretty well written. Several of the events didn’t make sense.
