This is just the took I've been searching for! Imagine my excitement and hope as I perused each page. The description of each exercise is concise and clear. The artwork is unambiguous, and so very useful. This book begins with the rationale for writing the book and for its use. In my experience physical therapists and physical trainers tend to be more pragmatic than most. Mr. Like starts small, basic, and simple and progresses in an uncomplicated way to reveal a whole, and holistic, program to achieve fitness, despite where one's condition is currently.
First is the prize description, followed by a description of each component exercise, and go finally a number of workout plans with sufferers of the basic exercises. The book ends with a short bio of the author. All simple and brief.
I'll be challenged especially since I'm attempting to get back to my previous fitness after a two month illness leading to significant deconditioning. I was shocked recently to discover how winded I got walking for less than 5 minutes at a moderate pace. Last year I was able to complete 10,000 steps a day, mostly at 4 mph. I'm counting on body memory and this book to help me regain my previous levels in 3 months. Let's see!
I thought this book would probably be geared towards beginners, but the exercises work for any fitness level. Perfect collection of movements for those who hate going to a gym, or have limited access to exercise equipment. I suggest a "random routine" where you make flash cards of the exercises you like most, then pick 1 at random and do it. While you rest and catch your breath, pick another one and do it next. That way you'll never get bored with your routine.
A book showing 50 exercises not requiring any equipment except a sturdy chair and a floor. Illustrations and descriptions go through each exercise. Several routines are set out. The book suggests using these as interval training, doing as many of each exercise in 30 seconds with 10 seconds between.
Took away one star as many of these exercises have critically important safety warnings that NEED to be present and there is not a single one here.
Otherwise it is a useful book for starting (and continuing) a simple high intensity interval training (HIIT) program in a short period of time, yet includes plenty of variation and easy ways to increase the intensity over time.
Good overview of basic body weight exercises. Perfect for someone who wants to build a quick fitness plan for a friend especially a travelling friend. These are great for a hotel room and can be combined to make longer routines based on time.
