Hello folks, My name is Solomon Carter, and I am the author of the Roberts and Bradley PI crime thriller series, The Last Line international thriller series, the DI Hogarth Darkest series and more. I write mysteries, crime and thriller novels and more besides.
I was born in Southend, Essex and lived there for most of my life apart from eventful student days in South London. But my life in Southend was even more eventful still. I ended up working in a string of jobs including as a jobcentre clerk, a book seller, tutor for youth with low skills and low self esteem, mortgage broker, and latterly manager of a food bank which dealt with all kinds of interesting people facing all kinds of eye-opening, jaw dropping problems. Because of these ear-to-the-ground jobs the majority of my novels are set in Southend. In 2016 I moved to North Cornwall because I liked the idea of never-ending holidays - but I also write almost every single day. My aim is to write action-packed thrillers and page-turning mysteries that readers love and my hope is to get better at what I do with every book across each and every year.
I like to give away lots of free books as part of what I do. If you would like to receive some of these and get the exclusives on offer, than you're invited to join my free readers group at SolomonCarter.net. I won't spam you, just send the occassional email with news on the latest books and forthcoming freebies.

What I am good at: telling stories What I am bad at: dancing, being patient. What I love: nature, the seaside, adventures Writers I heartily recommend: Lee Child, Ian Rankin, Henning Mankell, Val McDermid, Harlan Coben, Robert Crais. Writers I need to read more of: Val McDermid, Ian Rankin, Michael Connelly and others. Other things I do beside writing: at present I like to keep my running going to balance out the sitting behind a laptop (a habit inspired by Haruki Murakami's 'What I talk about when I talk about running' - a great book). -I am currently doing surf lessons. When in Rome, as they say... -Getting out into nature as the weather allows.
I look forward to hearing from you. Until then I'll keep on writing. Or running. Or surfing. Or chasing my children around the house.
All the very best, Solomon :)
PS if you have enjoyed any of my books, I'd be honoured if you could post a review. Those reviews really do help!
The story continues with the team on a mission into London to locate Kelly Morrison who phoned Hogarth out of the blue as the previous story came to a close. Information now obtained, indicates Essex is the centre of the trafficking racket, and despite objections from on high, the investigation continues and rescues are made. Information obtained as surveillance and raids are carried out indicates a more complex situation piggy backs the trafficking racket and suddenly senior police close down obvious investigations that are warranted by the evidence. This concerns all team members from Sue palmer down, but orders are orders and then threats are made to the team and the scene is set for further action.
A great read with twists, turns and actions that may alarm readers but brings real life situations into the story. Cannot wait for the concluding story in the trilogy, which I am sure will be a ripper, as the scene is set for trouble and the pursual of identities that think they are untouchable, unofficially, or methinks eventually officially.
The second book in The Thin Line DI Hogarth trilogy.
Hogarth, Finch & Kaplan turn up in Haringey, Kelly is there along with three other girls. But having spoken to Kelly, Hogarth quickly realises what they thought they were dealing with is much bigger, more organised….but just what is the extent of the brokers’ operation.
After a battle, the team win the right to carry out surveillance on a “disused warehouse”. With time against them and Melford doing all he can to shut operations down they come up trumps.
Included in their finds is a ledger - a goldmine of information - coded - but enough is garnered to identify the location of two other sites. Again - politics v policing comes into play - budgets v people’s lives. But Palmer and Hogarth can be very persuasive. But will their allocated time be enough….
Even if they find what they want - will it be over….
It’s another page turner - there’s so much more I could say - but that would be spoiling things….
What a trill ride! Although I've said it before, this may well be Solomon Carters best yet. I've been following the career of DI Joe Hogarth since book 1 and honestly, if I could give this and book 1 in this trilogy, The Thin Line, more than 5 stars I most assuredly would! With his previous sidekick, Sue Palmer now promoted to DCI and a new DS to replace her, Hogarth has one ally at least in his corner, but in spite of their success they still have to fight the "Top Brass" all the way. This is tension, suspense and nail biting, edge of the seat storytelling at its best. I can't wait to read book 3!
The story continues where Hogarth investigates the trafficking and abduction ring in an effort to find missing women.
I still find it annoying that those in higher positions in the police force prefer politics to saving lives, where the rich and powerful are not accountable for their actions. I liked how Hogarth and his team know what is really important and how Palmer is trying to beat the odds.
Twists, turns and plenty of action made this a good read.
What another great story that continues from book 1. Case is coming together but politics and the wealthy manipulate what happens. Can’t wait for the next one,
What can one say that has not already been said. An incredible second part of the trilogy. A woman falling from a van started this investigation and now it is taking some very dark turns. Certainly more than trafficking women. Something even worse! Got to get into book 3 now to see where this goes. Just superb!
