Some witches summon storms. Alice Grimes summons… speeding tickets.
Last of the Pendles and spectacularly failed witch, trainee detective constable Alice is one mistake away from permanent patrol duty. Then ritualistic deaths erupt across Soho, handing her a final chance to prove herself.
Naturally, everything goes pear-shaped.
Between an insufferable supervisor, an assignment guarding sexy billionaire and mayoral candidate Thorne Mortimer, and a roguishly handsome daemon who definitely resents Thorne’s interest, Alice’s career is hanging by a thread.
As the case peels back the veil on a hidden supernatural world, Alice is forced to confront the impossible
What if the only way to solve the case… is to embrace the magic she doesn’t have?
One failed witch. Two dangerously hot daemons. Ritualistic murders. And a billionaire who may or may not be involved.
Shadows in Soho is a slow-burn paranormal romance packed with British detective banter, slow-burn romance, and a heroine who is absolutely, spectacularly unqualified for the case from hell. Contains occasional British coarse language (don’t worry, terminology reference provided) and moderately steamy scenes.
Shadows in Soho by Edie Warwick was such a fun read. It was intriguing, twisty, and outright adventurous. The characters were so well developed and so vastly different that it was just a page-turning event. I was pleasantly surprised at the direction the book took and the unique way the paranormal characters were so diversly gifted. Cal was not a character I found fun, but every book has the one that is UGH!!! He took that title for this book although there were several contenders for the spot. So, be forewarned that not all the characters are likeable and that is another reason this book is such a great read. Whose camp am I in now? The angst in this story was also diverse and a place to leave the real world say behind and enjoy the depth of this entire reading experience. I want to encourage you to read Shadows in Soho if you have read this far in the review…. because the funniest part of the book is past the last page of the story manuscript and all the end of book stuff. No spoilers. But I got a LOL from the final additions Edie Warwick included for those of us who are not from the UK(especially if you don’t read much British English). This author has started a great series with these characters with their passions, flaws and drama. It is a book I would read a second time. I was given an ARC of this title and feel grateful that I can share my experience while reading such a fun, intense and once again diverse novel. Enjoy the adventure.
This was a really interesting read in a uniquely built, magical version of London. Interesting characters, and a mystery that kept me engaged. I even enjoyed the love triangle, such as it was. I have to say, though, I felt a little deceived by the plot twist. I feel like a certain misnomer used through out the book was a little too sneaky. This book is labeled as Book 1, and I will certainly check out the next one.
Many thanks to BookSirens for an ARC in exchange for my honest assessment of this work.
One thing about me is that I am a sucker for a cozy mystery, and this book HIT IT for me. Please allow me to sell you on this in six words: witches, murder, detective, London, slow-burn. This book was fun! It was steamy! It had twists!
Tbh it's the perfect long-weekend or vacation read.
I received an advance review copy of this book for free, and I am leaving this review voluntarily. Please go read this book.
This one would have been fun without the supernatural. The story is just that much better with it. Absolutely a murder mystery with none of the usual suspects. Its easy to have empathy with Alice and her slightly confused relationships. Funny moments not all of it is gloom. I received this book from Booksirens and am happy to leave this review
