So close to being a five star! It had all my favourite things!! (Mafia, strong fmc, and the mmc was absolutely obsessed). Buttttt the miscommunication ruined it… I hateeeee it in books. BUT still a 4 star maybe even more bc it wasn’t too bad in this!

Author knew she ate when she wrote Romeo. Like I actually want to bow down to her

For Savannah, starting her Masters at NYU is her last taste of freedom before she’s forced into an arranged marriage and locked into a gilded cage. But when Romeo sets his sights on her, everything changes. Because this man, oh he doesn’t just notice her…he becomes completely and utterly obsessed and he’s willing to do whatever it takes to make her his.

Y’all, trust your girl when I say this book was UHMAZING! And I don’t say that lightly, as a mafia romance reader, I have read them all. Stalker, arranged marriage, obsession, you name it, I’ve read it. So when I tell you this one stood out? Ugh, I literally just finished the last page and I’m sitting here in disbelief at how much I LOVED this.

“I want to hear that laugh again. I want to be the one who causes it.”

Romeo…my man. One of my all time favourite tropes is where the MMC feels absolutely nothing, like a complete emotional void until he meets HER. And so when our Romeo came on like that, I just knew he was about to fall HARD. This man was completely gone head over heels, fully whipped, no coming back. I loved how intense he was, how sure he became once he realized what Savannah meant to him. Yes, his obsession definitely leaned into the unhinged at times, but I couldn’t even be mad about it because everything he did came from such a genuine place of love and he was protective, devoted, and surprisingly soft where it mattered most. I was completely obsessed with him in the same way that he was obsessed with Savannah.

“I’ll show her that I see her, that I value her mind as much as her body.”

And Savannah was exactly what he neede, bringing him back to life in a way that felt so powerful. What I really loved was that even though she was scared and thrown into this overwhelming situation, she never lost herself. She still had agency, she still made choices, still wanted to pursue her passions, she didn’t just disappear into his or anyone elses world. Props to her being a true queen!

This is very much a love at first sight situation, even if they don’t fully acknowledge it right away. They go through so many hurdles to be together and the stakes felt HIGH. It really felt like the world was against them, but every time they were together, everything just fell into place and felt right. Their connection wasn’t just physical, it was emotional, intense, and just made the whole relationship feel like it was built off of mutual respect and genuine interest, not just attraction.

“Because every time I’m with Romeo, I feel like I can breathe, like I’m real, like I matter.”

This is stalker romance DONE RIGHT! M. James really outdid herself with this one, I genuinely think this might be her best yet (and I’ve read a LOT of her books). It's going to be one of those books that I'll be raving on about to people for a long time coming and I’m already so excited for Giulia’s story next, especially with that hint of forbidden romance with Luca, bring it on…

Trust your girl and start this book, you will not regret it.

I thought Mara and Ilya’s push-and-pull was bad, but Savannah really takes the cake. By the time their situation is finally resolved, you just don’t care anymore. Her motivations feel all over the place—she says she’s engaged to Thad and is upset that he never tells her he misses her, yet when he tries to get close to her, she pulls away and claims she doesn’t feel the same. It’s hard not to think: make up your mind.

Then she meets Romeo, who is instantly in love and does everything he can to make her his. Meanwhile, she keeps going back and forth—“Oh, but I’m engaged,” “Oh, but I can’t leave my family”—and so on. Eventually, she does decide to leave Thad, but even when her father is presented with clear evidence that her fiancé is awful, he still pushes her to marry him.

On the other hand, Romeo comes from a powerful crime family, yet his father is afraid of Savannah’s father’s influence and initially refuses to support him, constantly urging him to stay away from her.

And still, even near the very end, Savannah is unsure: “I don’t know if I’m strong enough for this… I don’t know if I can live in a world where the man I love is capable of that.” At that point, it just feels exhausting—like she’s stuck in the same cycle of doubt and indecision for far too long.

In the end, the so-called damsel in distress is the one who does the killing, and Romeo is the one who gets hurt. Everything is eventually resolved and we get a HEA—but by that point, I think very few people are still invested.

Oh wow so good! I loved the obsessive love that Romeo brings for Savannah. He is trying to do it right but comes out all kinds of wrong. But she loved him anyway.

Savannah is arranged to wed a man who is only intent on controlling everything about her, till she meets Romeo a guy who joins her archaeology courses.

Romeo has many layers to good personality and i loved that dual layer of what his father created and what Savannah does to him. They have instant attraction and that fascination only grows as they partner up for class work. But the elements of danger that is ever present draw out vulnerability and closer love.

So well done. It was a long book but never lulls. A fascinating mix of characters, personalities and layers of story that mix so well. I'm in awe of this author and can't wait for the next book too. So good, truly!!
