The One #3

The Only One

Rate this book
Mason Wallace left his hometown to live his dream: he had the perfect career, a gorgeous wife and a beautiful baby girl. He was on top of the world, until it all shattered with the sudden death of his wife. Now he's back in Georgia, running his bar and trying to take care of his family. And he needs all the help he can get.

Rilla Grant's never been farther than twenty miles from her family's farm. Her overprotective father wants her to marry their church's youth pastor and settle down into the life he's chosen for her, but she's not sure that's what she wants anymore. Rilla's chafing to make her own choices, and that includes starting her own PR business and maybe even moving off the farm, no matter how much her dad hates it.

When Mason asks Rilla to work on some promotion for his bar, she's both excited and terrified. Excited, because it's just the opportunity she's wanted, and terrified because Mason, with his electric blue eyes and drool-worthy body, is the kind of guy who makes her knees weak and her heart pound. He's the only one who's ever tempted Rilla to defy her family, and when she does just that by moving in to help take care of his daughter, they're both forced to make a decision that'll change their lives forever.

Sometimes love isn't the easy choice. Sometimes it's the only one.

4.5 stars!****

A great conclusion to the "trilogy". The main storyline was amazing and I loved that we've seen a lot of characters from the previous books.

Rilla was raised by a very protective father. He's part of a church and believes that jeans and TV are evil and that you should never talk to an unmarried man alone. He's got a plan for Rilla, but it's not what she wants to do. She might be shy and quiet, but she's determined and ready to make some changes. She's got a degree and she's ready to use it.

Mason's wife died a couple of years ago, leaving him alone with their newborn daughter. He moved back to him hometown and opened a bar. He decided to offer lunches and he needs someone to promote it. And Rilla is the one to do it.

She also helps him take care of his ill mother and daughter. Once she comes back really late and her father throws her out, because he thinks she sinned (which she didn't). Mason offers to let her move in with him and she does. Then he suggest to marry him and she does. But he let her know that he'll never love her and that it's basically just a marriage of convinience.

I admire Rilla. She was brought up in sheltered environment and she didn't have much experience with people in general but she fought and she won. She was a shy little mouse who turned out to be a lioness.

And Mason. Big muscled guy who adores her daughter and he can sing! What's not to love?

Watching those two fall in love was something incredible. It felt natural and made me want to find someone like that sooner rather than later. They understood each other, they completed each other, they made the other one a better and braver person.

What I didn't like was one sentence in the end. And it's not just in this book, it happens in lot of books I read. It was something like "I loved you from the first time I saw you".. No, you didn't. You didn't even know her. You might have been attracted to her, you might have a crush on her but you didn't fall in love with her. Not possible.

I liked THE ONLY ONE the most out of the series. Mostly because of Rilla, because she went through such a character transformation, but still stayed herself, if it makes sense.

I gonna reread this one for sure sometimes in the future.

This was a sweet read. I enjoyed watching Rilla break out of the cocoon her father had wrapped around her with his preachy, zealous ways. We are having a major snow storm up here in Ontario, Canada so I'm binge reading and watching Jason Mamoa flicks/series. I love lazy Saturdays!!!
Enjoy this pleasant second chance at love, family oriented story by this author who writes hilarious dialogue. It makes her characters come alive on the page.

Ugh, the only reason this book is getting two stars instead of one is because I actually managed to finish it. I usually reserve one star ratings for books I DNF.

Is there anything redeemable about The Only One? Unfortunately, no. It seems to me this book was written in a rush, without any thought for plot and character development. I've read the first two books in the series. Loved the first one, and even though the second wasn't as good as the first, it still had a story that interested me.

The major, major flaw of this book is that all the major issues the characters are facing in their lives is not shown. When the heroine defies her overbearing, overzealous, religious father and gets kicked out of the house, the scene is not shown. She just mentions it afterwards in a brief paragraph and that's it.

Mason's mother has leukemia and he's the donor, do you think we get to see that in the novel. Hell no. Just a brief mention. That's it.

Now go on and tell me why I should care about these characters?

The plot was laughable. When some people in town start to give Rilla shit about her living with Mason, what does the hero do? He proposes. I kid you not. Never mind that this is a guy who lost his wife 3 years before and says he will never love anyone else. Never mind the MCs are not even in a relationship. The girl only works for him and they had only known each other for a few weeks. What is this, the 19th century?

Following that is a bunch of nonsense drivel and a poor attempt at romance. Do not recommend.

***4.5 Star***

Mason Wallace left his hometown to live his dream. He had the perfect career, a beautiful wife and precious baby girl. He thought he had it all...all he would ever need...until his wife suddenly dies. He has come back home to Georgia, opened a bar and is raising his daughter.

Rilla Grant is a sweetheart and obedient to her father's every demand/command. She's never been more than twenty miles from her home. Her overbearing, over-protective father keeps her on a short leash. He has plans for her to marry their church's youth pastor and settle close by with the life he has planned for her. It doesn't matter what she wants or thinks and it's not what she wants anymore. She's itching to make her own decisions and plans starting with her own PR business.

Rilla is working with Mason on a PR plan for Mason's bar. He is so drool worthy and just the kind of man she has dreamed about. He's the only man who has ever tempted her to defy her family. Mason also wants her help with his daughter and she moves in to do just that along with her PR work.

This is a great story. Another hit by Tawdra Kandle and I loved it!

This was a great trilogy. I'm glad I took the time to read it. I will admit out of the three this one is my least favorite. I felt bad for Rilla. Her dad was way too strict. Thankfully, things turned out good for her in the end. It was nice that both couples from the other two books were in this one. I love how Rilla became good friends with Meghan. Something that Rilla desperately needed since she grew up so sheltered. If your looking for a nice contemporary read I woul definitely recommend this trilogy.

This was a pretty decent read. I could only imagine how difficult growing up can be when you want to live a different life than what my parents expects. Rilla was raised by her father. Her mother left the father because she wanted to live and experience the world. Since the father was religious and lived on a farm, the mother left the family. Rilla’s father was very overprotective of her but maybe because her mother walked away from her father.
Mason the widower – what an amazing man! He had a beautiful family and great career when his family was taken away from him too soon due to a tragic car accident. He was raising his daughter on his own. He decided to move back to the town he grew up in to be closer to his mother. Unfortunately, his mom got sick as well. Although he became a successful bar/restaurant owner, he also provided for his girls – Piper his daughter and Mom.
I enjoyed how the couples from the previous booked stayed together throughout this storyline. It shows that no matter where you are in life, real friends will stay connected.
Rilla and Mason meeting each other – I would say very “interesting”. They have two different types of characters that happened to be hooked to each other at the first meeting. When Mason needed some assistance with his home situation, Rilla was so willing to help Mason and become his home caregiver. They agreed it was only strictly “business”. But Mason who was so closed off to loving again couldn’t help himself but fall for the young, smart, and innocently beautiful Rilla. Things happened in between….so I don’t want to give too much away.
But this story brings back hope of someone who is the first, last, and only love.

4 Stars-Great (had my attention and I enjoyed it),

Amazing. I can relate to this book so much. Growing up in the Christian conservative home I actually understood how Rilla felt. Out of the three books in this serie this book was my favorite. My last, my first, my only, these words could not express these characters any better. This book was filled with courage and perseverance. Mason is an amazing dad you'll fall in love with in this book and be rooting for him to have his happily ever after.

This book is a standalone in a series and is the third installment. HEA with no cliffhangers and it sums up at the end in the epilogue all three books, so I suggest you read the first two books in the installment in order so that you can better enjoy the epilogue at the end of this book, if not I think it will ruin the other two endings for you. I promise that you will enjoy the other two books in the series as much as this book.

Loved the FMC

The Only One by Tawdra Kandle

Enjoyed this book mainly because of Rilla (FMC), and also Mason's daughter and mother. Loved Rilla's wide eyed naivete but especially her growth into a strong willed woman. Mason was harder to like: his tragic past was no excuse for treating Rilla with such disrespect.

Single father Mason lost his one true love a few yrs ago. Now he's not open to love, and his time is consumed by daughter, ailing mother, and the bar he owns. Rilla just got kicked out of her home by her fundamentalist father for pursuing career.

What can I say Mason is a jerk. He and Rilla are cute together but he tries his hardest to push her away and not admit his feelings. Rilla is amazing she finds the strength to stand up to her overbearing, zealot of a father and take on a job she wants. Rilla takes on the job of looking after Mason's daughter and mother and fits in like she has always been part of the family. Mason does finally come to his senses and admit he loves Rilla.

I read the first book of this series and had really liked it. This one was okay though not as good. It was a little less believable and seemed to wrap up quicker than I expected. Also, the epilogues were very odd in that they featured characters from another series that this one is a spin off of but had never been mentioned in this book.

Again
Dead ex troop which wasn't that bad but wasn't great too.
The H and h had no time to develop or spend together as they were dealing with issues one after the other.
Also i want H to realise his feelings himself and confess rather than people bombarding him about his feelings which feels forced.

I was a little tired of the generally, but especially sexually, naive thing going on here and the MMC being so bullheaded in his belief regarding love, and I was a little bummed to have two single parent books in a row in this series, but that's personal preference on tropes.

Good

Good read but did not set my world alight. I loved Rilla and Mason, and I enjoyed their journey, but found it all a smidge predictable.

I feel this book had more to give and was finished abruptly to make space for more characters… They could’ve done so much more with Rilla’s background. I still enjoyed it though

The Only One by Tawdra Kandle is Marilla and Mason's story, and it is the one they deserve. Both of the are terrified of everything so their romance took some odd little turns. It was terrific to get to know these two, but also to keep up with the rest of the family. There were a couple issues that were introduced as big issues, but then never mentioned again. It seemed a bit odd considering the others in this series. That, added to the editing mis-steps, dropped a star for me. Overall, a good read.

I received a copy of this book in exchange for an honest review.

The end of this trilogy is bittersweet. I'm happy that everyone managed to find their HEA, but I'm sad to see this group of wonderful characters go.

Rilla was introduced previously as the mousy girl with a plan to make the farm stand grow. Using her online college degree, she managed to make a difference to all the other characters we've met, so it only makes sense that she gets to star in her own installment. Though she was raised in a very sheltered environment, Rilla is finally growing a backbone. She's testing her boundaries and pushing her father's limits. While she still lives at home, she's determined to grow her own business and begin her new life. This, of course, leads to much drama at home. Mason is a widower, single-father, and owner of the hottest place in town. While he's not hurting for business, he is trying new things. This led him right to Rilla.

These two are very different, but they both have great love for Mason's little girl, Piper. She's adorable and it's easy to see how she ropes Rilla in at first sight. When Rilla is confronted with Mason's caregiver dilemma, she jumps right in to help. This modified family unit just seems to... work. There is a synergy right from the start and even the "determined never to love again" Mason find himself making wild and unexpected leaps.

This book had a lot of unusual twists and turns, but it still had the same heart that the other books in the series had. No matter how broken a character, everyone somehow manages to find their happy ending. There's a nice epilogue that is bound to give you some warm fuzzies.

Rilla Grant is coming out of her shell, starting her PR business and working with the Reynolds' at their food stand. All is good except that her super-religious father is not on board with her growth. He has a plan for her but she's not loving it. In the process of growing her PR business, she meets Mason Wallace, the owner and bartender of the new bar in town. When he mentions needing a caretaker for his you my daughter and sick mother, Rilla jumps on it. Her father, again, does not agree and after one too many fights, kicks her out. Mason offers her a room and all is well until the people from her church are condemning her. Mason proposes to save her from sin and she agrees. They are happy until the past comes up, reminding them both of fear. Again, Tawdra had done an amazing job touching on real emotional situations. This story had more religions influence than the other two but it was not preachy. The tone is more explorative and questioning than anything what. She brings up the question of faith in several different ways. It is well worth reading.
Rilla is quiet and a little bit uncertain but she is strong and tough and her growth is tremendous! Mason is wonderful in this process. He is there for her, helping her and letting her set the pace of everything. Rilla's patience for Mason is also great, though I was impressed that she put her foot down when she did. This entire story was very well done and very emotional.

I cried a few pages in on this one. What can I say? I'm a wuss. We all know that this is the story of Mason- widowed single dad & Rilla- sheltered, man-shy girl. I think the fact that we have to relive Mason's loss is pretty much a given that we are going to need tissues.

The Only One is the story of family, of second chances, of finding love for the first time and the last time. It is the story of learning to let go of the pain of loss and to be brave enough to love again, despite the possibility of experiencing that pain again. It is the story of having the courage to leave your comfort zone , of knowing you want more out of life and reaching for it.

I laughed ... I cried (too much)... I wanted to hit certain stubborn men at times. *cough* Mason *cough*
The Only One is a book that you won't want to put down and the epilogue is just perfect. I couldn't ask for a better ending to a trilogy - well except that maybe the trilogy didn't end! lol. Read on my friends, you won't be disappointed!

*I was given an ARC of this book in exchange for my honest review. All thoughts/opinions are 100% my own. *

The Only One by Tawdra Kandle
5 stars!

There's something great about reading a book that is part of a series, feeling like you already know so many of the other characters and can be a part of that world. This book let me dive right in, already loving this world, and get to know Rilla and Mason. I absolutely LOVED this one! Rilla is sweet, kind, strong, innocent, adventurous, I could go on. Mason is all of these things, and add in a sexy protective alpha male personality, and let the chemistry between them fly! The growth that both of them had to go through to get to the point of fully committing their hearts to one another was filled with plenty of ups and downs, but it melted my heart along the way. I could re-read this entire series and fall in love with each book every time. This was a great conclusion to the series, even with being sad that it's over. Tawdra made me wish I could visit Burton and get to know everyone in these books.

I read the first two books in this series and liked them. This one however had something special about it. I loved the fact that despite it having a romantic storyline, it was a romantic storyline with a difference.

Rilla is forced into a difficult situation. Growing up in sheltered life where her father dictates everything she can and cannot do, Rilla eventually finds the courage to break out on her own, after agreeing to help bar owner Mason. By doing so Rilla experiences everything in life that is normal to most people.

Tawdra Kandle does an excellent job of showing Rilla's strengths and weaknesses and how she overcomes those weaknesses to become a stronger woman for it. I loved the relationship between Rilla and Mason, and it was nice to see characters from earlier in the series spill over into this book. Once again, Tawdra Kandle has written and excellent book, and I really recommend it.

What a great conclusion to this series.
Rilla was very sheltered due to her father and the church. Mason is trying to raise his daughter after losing his wife.
An unlikely couple who needs each other. Mason needs someone to care for his Mother and daughter and Rilla needs a place to stay after she is kicked out of the only home she knows.
To protect her Mason asks her to marry him. Day by day he wears down her walls and shows her a different way to live. TV, jeans and bars are no longer forbidden from her.
As Rilla falls in love with Mason he moves their relationship into a more intimate one.
Mason denies his feelings in fear of losing someone he loves again.
What happens to make him realize what he may lose if he doesn't step up and admit how he really feels?
Loved getting to see what was happening in Meghan/Sam and Ali/Flynn's relationships. Good story and well written. A few writing errors but very minor.

Great story! A sweet romance for two people to gradually fall in love with each other.

I liked to see how Rilla changed from a shy girl to a confident women. She had an overprotective traditional father who was very strict to her, not to mention their church's non-sense belief. After she came to work for Sam, then Mason, she became brave enough to stand up to her father after him forbid her to work anymore. After she moved in with Mason, their relationship began to change.

Also, I liked how Mason was patient enough to let Rilla get used to be intimate with him. Although he was too stubborn that almost drive Rilla away, he came to his senses soon.

If you're in a mood for sweet romance, this is the book for you! Cab be read as standalone.

The Only One is a wonderfully amazing read. I think this is my favorite of the trilogy. Rilla and Mason are such wonderfully written characters. I loved reading how Rilla comes out of her sheltered shell. I'd like to put a boot up side her father's head though. Mason's story is heart breaking. Be sure to have a tissue handy. I also love that you get to visit with Meghan and Ali and their families. I highly recommend this book to everyone!
