I dont draw nor I intend to draw anytime soon but this is a good step-by-step instruction book. For those who're interested to be a cartoonist or improve their stick figure to a better drawing, I would recommend it!
Brilliant introduction for people who might have trouble making a stick figure look good. Whittles the art down to the very essentials and gets you started with those in an inspired way that cleverly side-track the inevitable self-doubt that'll try to sabotage you. Also, funny (one might expect that from a book on drawing cartoons, but you'd be surprised how many don't actually manage it).
Would give it five stars, but it does alas not quite follow through with the simple step-by-step method and for the latter part gives mostly examples. This might not be an issue if one actually works through the book, and practices a lot instead of inhaling it as I did, but I felt I could use more hand holding for longer because I am filled to the brim with the above-mentioned self-doubt.
O bought this book because of the reviews. It was one of my best purchases of the new year. Went through it in 1/2 an hour without drawing anything. I can't wait to start practicing the very easy instructions. What good Fun.
Simple book for those wanted to draw with a simple key steps to start. And to draw cartoon don' have to be so lean and nicely done, keep it loose and just do it.

A step by step lesson. Yet the most fun and interesting lessons I have ever come across in a book! And as a former teacher and avid reader, that is saying a lot! I am an admitted "can't even draw a stick figure!", yet even I was able to draw some of these cartoons!! I highly recommend this book. Especially for parents to teach their children the basics. I also loved that this was a very "clean" art book. No inappropriate drawings! Thank you for making this kid and family friendly!!
Platt made it so simple and easy. I definitely can't draw but this book broke the process down completely such that even I could draw something believable. While I'm still skeptical about my drawing ability, this book made me believe that I could take a good stab at it.
This book helped me approach drawing cartoons using simple techniques, such as basic character outlines, which is exactly the type of instruction I was looking for!
