Loco: The Idea of Us

Rate this book
Makhai Matthews has built a name for himself in the streets and the studio—a gang member turned rising rapper with a reputation for being as reckless as he is talented. He's loyal to his crew, proud of his hustle, and unapologetically blunt. Change isn't something he's ever considered—until he meets her.Diamond Scott has no patience for men who live fast and love carelessly. Between holding down a steady job and trying to keep her life on track while her sister spirals, she's learned the hard way that peace is priceless. Confident, grounded, and self-assured, Diamond refuses to let anyone disturb her balance—especially a man like Makhai.

But when their worlds collide, sparks fly in ways neither expected. Diamond challenges Makhai in a way no one ever has, forcing him to confront the parts of himself he's buried beneath the fame and chaos. And as he works to prove he can be the man she deserves, Diamond finds herself falling for the one person she swore she'd never give a chance.

In a love story rooted in chance and resilience, Makhai and Diamond learn that sometimes the right person doesn't just change your life—they make you want to change yourself.

This was fun! Loco is a menace lol 4.5 🌟

I enjoyed Loco so much! He was a menace, but he also found love in Diamond! Diamond wasn't the average Girl he was used to, and she let him know he needed to do more than be flashy to get with her. Loco showed Diamond all the ways he could be everything to her, while of course still being true to himself! Diamond had some growing pains, but I'm glad she finally gave in to let Loco love her and her niece. I really love how the family showed up for one another in this book, everyone except Gwen smh. Seeing Jabari, Prynce, and Loco all together was nice to read as well! I just enjoyed this read.
Looking forward to what T’Lyn comes out with next!

I listened to this book, and the story was not bad, but it was just too many instances of unrealistic happenings. I get using imagination and all, but quite a bit of this book is just unrealistic. Please prepare yourself for the overuse of the word 'lord' to address someone and the phrase 'on lord' to indicate sincerity 😩😩 it was too much. The male narrators voice didn't match how the characters' voices should've been; it gave high schoolers playing gangster.

Loco is the one and I love him - he is easily one of my favorite male characters penned by T’Lyn. Yes, he’s a little crazy and impulsive but he is the good kind of possessive and loves hard. Loco is a rapper and gang member but also a great friend, lover, and father figure to “Baby Lord”. When Loco lays eyes on Dime, it was literally love at first sight - the man knew she was his future wife. But Dime isn’t impressed with hood fame or the glitz and glamour. Dime said you will step correctly or step off, and what did Loco do? He STEPPED CORRECTLY! I know that’s right! I live for Dime’s character, she’s ambitious but when she receives an unexpected call from the NICU she did not hesitate to step up and I respect that the most. In a way, Dime’s story hit close to home for me. I love the way she gave grace to her sister Gwen and creates boundaries because at the end of the day - there is an innocent child being impacted. Loco in daddy mode was truly special because he didn’t change who he was, in fact Dime and Baby Lord made him grind harder. Ugh, I love this man! lol! 😆

This book had no business being this funny. I laughed out loud more than a few times. It was genuinely such a good time.

I absolutely loved Loco. He’s a playboy, an asshole, reckless, and just a little unhinged. I loved watching Diamond refuse to entertain his usual antics and how she essentially forced him to grow up just by being herself. The way he course corrected and showed up for Diamond and Baby Lord? I ate that up. Seeing his character development and softer, loverboy side come out was a highlight for me! I also really enjoyed the dynamic he had with his family and his brothers.

Diamond was ambitious and strong-willed, and I admired how she showed up for Keona without hesitation. She did frustrate me at times with how quickly she jumped to conclusions and how she held her ex’s actions against Loco, but it didn’t take away from my overall enjoyment. I felt for her with her situation with her sister. This is a book I wouldn’t have minded a 5-10 year epilogue because I’d love to see how things worked out in the long run.

Okay so I started this book, stopped, and deleted it from my library. Then I came across it again while browsing and couldn’t remember why I stopped… so I downloaded it again.

Then I saw why.

“Lord.”

I could not take it.

He says that word so much I had to actually stop and check how many times it was used… 200 times. For the life of me, I don’t understand why he’s calling everybody “Lord.”
At first I thought it was maybe a cult or gang thing that him and his crew used, but no. He says it to everybody. It just kept throwing me me off.

Lord: a person who has authority, control, or power over others; or a title used to address someone of high status.

So why is he saying it to literally everyone?

This was just okay to me no real stand out moments or characters. I kept getting distracted and wanting to do other things while reading it. I didn’t really get Diamond needing to be shown so many times that Gwen ain’t give a damn but yeah.

The Couple Carried It, But the Plot Couldn’t Keep Up

The characters were the best part of this one, and honestly they almost saved it.

Loco was a lot, but that was the point. He really did live up to his name. Rough, funny, extra, and completely locked in on Diamond from jump. I appreciated how sure he was about her and how relentlessly he pursued her without it feeling creepy. That balance is hard to pull off and the author did it well.

Diamond was easy to root for too. She had been through it, but she still knew her worth and never let Loco swallow her whole. Watching her hold her own against his big personality was one of the more entertaining parts of the book. Their dynamic was fun and there were a few scenes that genuinely had me smiling.

Where the book lost me was the plot. There were storylines that felt like they were building toward something and then just kind of… fizzled. The ending especially felt rushed, like the author was ready to wrap up before I was ready to leave. A few threads that got introduced early never really got the resolution they deserved. By the time I finished, the couple had made me smile but the story itself didn’t stick.

Not a bad read at all. The friend group was a great bonus (and great see some favorite older characters) and the humor landed more often than not. I just wanted the plot to show up the way the characters did.

Phew 😮‍💨 Lord is something else!!!!

This was such a cute reprieve from juggling life around and throughout this whole book, the only thing I kept on thinking was that I wish I was there instead of here where chaos lives in our country.
Anyway let me stop because I am digressing…. Well let’s start with my lord, Locco, who by the way have me singing “what a man, what a man, what a mighty fine man…. Yes he is”. Well the saying stands with him that when you find the one or the it thing that can and will make you change, you go full blown on lord! (Only thing was there was just a little bit too much of mission impossible and no law enforcement around but then again MyKing was there, I guess that explains it all)…
Diamond on the other hand was cute at the beginning but this insecurity that she kept on showing was such a turn off and childish. I ended up not liking her at all. Kabria was ok and it was so nice to read the others but still a little bit disappointed not knowing what’s happening in their lives, a little bit, but it was still fire 🔥.
Few authors have me always drop everything to read them and and MS. T’Lyn is definitely one of them… until next time, but go have some fun now with Locco!

Diamond and Makhai, The Family We Created

An unhinged man with a heart!!!…This was a wonderful start to my weekend!!!…I laughed more than I like to admit and clutched my pearls just as much!!!…
This book was written so well and the story unfolded so beautifully!!!…
Makhai(Loco) showed that the right woman will make you wanna change, not try and change you!!!…
I love how Diamond made him work for her!!!…Showed him she knew her value and she was worth being chased, now showing she knew how to chase a man!!!…
My heart broke with every effort Diamond made to try and help Gwen, but I was glad that she listened and started to understand that Gwen will have to make that decision!!!…Diamond’s heart was so pure and I was happy she was not selfish with Baby Girl when Lanced was properly vetted!!!…Them being part of his circle will give Baby Girl the village she deserves!!!…
Lance story was a beautiful one too!!!…He worked on getting himself together and knew his daughter was a reason to stay on the road of being clean and healthy!!!…
I’m sad this book ended, but their story appeared to have been completed with no questions unanswered!!!…

Loco motto was stick and run, and maybe circle back sometimes lol 😂, but he was not in a committed relationship with these women, so he kept doing him until the right one came along.

Meet Diamond where she has dealt with an ex cheating and dealing with the mess with her sister (take a breath), that she was not trusting someone like Loco with his track record.

Loco once he realized Diamond was the one, he treated her like a queen, and he gave all the feels and good vibes. He was crazy AF, but he was there for Diamond! Like he said, “he’s growing, not grown”.

With mistrust from Diamond, she’s waiting for the other shoe to drop with Loco and she will FAFO, and she will lose a good man.

There were so many good feels, and how Loco went all out for his Queen.

I wanted to see how things panned out with Baby Lord though in the epilogue! I can use my imagination!!!

Match Made in heaven!

I really enjoyed Loco & Dime because she was just as funny and crazy as he was. They were truly a good match for one another. I love the parental trope and roles that they took on but I was rooting for Gwen to get it together. I love a T’Lyn story because you can always find funny moments mixed with street things. Loco had no problem going city to city being about that action, i dont know what was funnier- the gas station scene or the scene with Tristan. Dime was a boss, i loved how she was so nurturing and loved her job along with her crazy bestie. This was a good wrap to the Lords crew & we can’t forget baby Lord and the way she had Loco wrapped around her finger too!

TLYN GOT ANOTHER HIT 🔥🔥🔥

I am completely convinced something is wrong with T’Lyn and something must be wrong with me cause I’m here for her nonsense!! Loco might definitely be my new favorite of her MMCs with the most reckless ass mouth and say whatever but yet make that shit sound sexy as hell!! Man I def need to go back and reread the Masters cause I forgot why they said Lord so much but Diamond laid out her rules and expectations and while she expected Loco to come and break her heart she got Makhai!! And Makhai wasn’t playing!! Diamond had her issues especially dealing with her sister and taking on her niece and communication issues but once she was in she ain’t play about Makhai!! Oh man I loved it!! Def one of my faves of 2026 so far!!

Loco and Diamond

Loco definitely lived up to his name. He was hood, rough around the edges, and had manners when it counted. Grew up in a two parent household, but he was exactly who he knew he was. Diamond having a rough upbringing losing both parents at a young and really having to fend for herself because her oldest sister got strung out on drugs. Loco met Diamond and he didn’t let up off her AT ALL. He was not playing about Dime and he had no issue with dating and courting her. What her sister did was unforgivable and Diamond did what needed to be done and Loco went above and beyond. They were so cute together I just love when the FMC let the MMC spend a bag on her no talk back.

Loco

That's what the f@#$ he is....Loco.

This dude is too many things. He doesn't play about disrespect, and a ninja can get it off top. I love this crew so much. They are funny as hell, but they stand on business no matter what. They are definitely their brother's keepers.

I love the dynamic between Loco and Diamond. She was just as crazy with her educated self. Despite circumstances, she made it unlike her sister. I wished things could have turned around for Gwen, but they didn't. At least Lance got it together and stepped up for baby girl.

As always, Madame T'Cup did her big one with this book. Looking forward to more shenanigans from Atlyn City, Crescent Falls, and Miller's Point.

He’s chaos. She’s peace.
And somehow… it works.

Makhai “Loco” Matthews is a man who thrives in fast living—respected in the streets and the spotlight. He’s bold, reckless, and unapologetic.

Diamond Scott? She’s done with that kind of love.

Focused. Guarded. Healing.

But when their worlds collide, the chemistry is undeniable—even when she knows better.

What I loved most was watching Loco peel back those layers. When Diamond’s life takes an unexpected turn, he shows up in a way that makes you question everything you thought about him.

🌶️ Spicy
💔 Emotional
🔥 Addictive

Rating: 10/10 — highly recommend

This one is for my readers who love a little chaos with their love stories 💋

Here are my thoughts:

I can honestly say that I enjoyed this story. I love how Makhai was unapologetically him. I do wish we could’ve gotten him more in the studio instead of him causing so much chaos in AC.

Diamond however, I didn’t like her character because she didn’t have in faith in Makhai for a good majority of the story. Like damn give him an actual chance sis. She was stressing me out. Just waiting for him to f up.

Final thoughts:

My reading journey for the Lords, has been so enjoyable lol. I started Prynceton story in January, read Jabari & Makhai this month. I love the Lords.

I do hope we can get an update short on them.

"Loco: The Idea of Us" by T'Lyn.

🤭Aight, so this is the story of Loco. You may be familiar with with him because he is the best friend of Prynceton Masters. He’s made appearances in I’ll Be The One, Because it’s Forever, and Hold Us Together.🤭

What series is that, you ask? Just think MyKyng, MyKyng, MyKyng Masters 😋 ... anyways!

Makhai aka Loco got his name honest! If u like a MMC who's intentional, doesn't play about his lady. Tad bit of stalkerish and make zero apologies for his actions, you will enjoy this read.

Sheesh

Makhai... made me not want to hear the word "lord" anymore. Just my personal opinion. Outside of that I enjoyed his pursuit of Diamond and the way he supported her. Some things were over the top but was par for the course given his lifestyle.

Diamond, babygirl, you are a gem. Stepping up when many would have turned their back like your sister did. Like it was stated, everyone handle grief differently. Thank you for knowing your worth and being the best you could be. It is your drive and smart mouth that kept me reading.

3.5

Loko: The Idea of Us was good — a solid 3.5⭐️ hood romance. I always enjoy a good T’Lyn book! I loved the continued brotherhood between Loco and Prynceton—you could really feel their bond throughout the story. The pace and buildup between Loco and Diamond worked well, especially with her making it clear he had to put in real effort to be with her.

I also enjoyed the gang shenanigans surrounding Loco—they added some plot moments to the story. And the scene of Loco at the skill center giving life lessons? Hilarious—everything he said had me laughing.

Oh my goodness! I loved Loco!!

Loco kept it real! He was head over heels over Diamond!! Now, she got on my nerves with her jealousy. Loco catered to her from day one and never gave her a reason to think he wasn't all in with her. But she believed everything somebody told her. But Loco never sugar coated anything and always kept it real!! Diamond finally got it together and they were beautiful!! Loved this book!! Can't wait to see whose next!!

Diamond was working these nerves 😒

You really have to be healed or working on yourself before getting into a relationship because you really bring your trauma with you and throw it onto your new partner. Diamond did that the whole book and it was annoying, if it wasnt for Kabria talking sense into Diamond then she would have been a lost cause.

OMG…

I love me some Loco (Makhai)!!!! He didn’t play about his woman. He found a way to get to Diamond… on Lord! I loved their relationship, his family dynamic and his silliness. I’m glad he was there to find out about Baby Lord. He didn’t play about her or her auntie. He really grew up in that year. He was perfect for Diamond!

On baby Lord...lol

I enjoyed the pace of this story an in true Tlyn style it didn't take 5 characters for the story to get good...
I also truly loved the best friend ... Diamond was not my cup of tea has she was way to flighty and Mr Loco although a heart of gold was very in need of growth.
However I want to do a drive thru safari with my hubby now...lol

Love it

Loco was a mess, but I love his character. He knew what he wanted and did what he needed to do.
Loco made sure he went after his girl and got her. I love how he learned and grew up to keep her.
I would recommend the book to others

T'Lyn stan account!
I really wish we got more of baby Keyona and Diamond. That was the highlight of the book

This was ok. Pretty predictable, but it was the good girl/bad boy trope.
Definitely he falls first!
Looking forward to the next

I love the whole crew, so I’m happy to have Locos book. One thing he never played about was his respect, then his family immediately after that. I do wonder if baby cousin will get a book, because something seems like it is brewing there.

I love this standalone series. I was not expecting another story from this group so it was nice surprise. I’m not usually a fan of a playboy mmc but loco wasn’t too bad. Miss Diamond didn’t play but i enjoyed her softness too. Great story.
