Picky reader
I am reading this excellent series in order & in a short time span. So I notice mishaps in the continuum.
How did Rosa go from Marco 80 yr old Grandmother in the first 6 books, to his Mother in this one? It had previosly been clearly stated that his parents were long gone & he was raised by his Grandmother.
This is careless & leaves a bad feeling with the reader. Inconsistency in the core of the ongoing story is not a good thing at all.
The store line continues to be good. I will continue reading the series, but hope thar the author pays much more attention to her details.

Good story
Did you forget that Sheriff Womack retired and what happened to Scout the new puppy? Somehow Scout is now an older male dog. These inconsistencies make a reader frustrated. Do you even read your own work?

Great characters but poor attention to continuity throughout the series
I'm continuing to read this series because the characters and location are great. The writer really needs to get a beta reader because the references to the back stories are quite jarring in their inconsistencies. As an example, the writer refers to the victim as twenty two years old, after stating he's supposed to be in high school getting ready to go to college on a track scholarship. Also in this book, the main character relationship with her SAR dog is portrayed as beginning when she gets to Colorado, but previously was portrayed as bringing the dog with her from Minnesota. It doesn't make any sense.

Kira does it again
Training run on the mountain to show Kate what to watch for when she's training Scout a new SAR dog in training. Kira get her scent and starts up the mountain. Going past other hidden handlers until she sits but no near the one she's to find. Looking down a gym shoe is noticed. Going down to check it out Gemma discovers a body to go with that shoe. Most off the of the body has decomposed leaving a piece of the gym shorts. Thirteen years ago he was a senior wait to hear about a scholarship. Out running with a friend when they splits up and one never returned. Then the race is on to find out who and why. Great job. Thank you.

An AI content farm is siphoning off of the hard work of legitimate writers, using unethical means to pump out these stories at a furious pace. We will soon be drowning in cloned woks of our favorite authors. Amazon needs to take these imposters down! At the very least these books needed to be clearly labeled. The numerous factual errors give them away, but by the time you realize it you’ve already wasted your time and money.

Interesting basic premise of SAR worker/trainer and her dog, but many plot inconsistencies and places that need editing. Looks like it was writtten by an AI and then not even proofread. Also, this series is very repetitive and individual books are repetititve. Sophie Lyons probably could have covered the same material with good character development and a tighter plot in half as many books. Disappointing.

It's hard to know the Kira is working toward retirement but with marriage and thoughts of the future, Gemma turns to a new era. In a training session Kira does not find the hiding volunteers - instead she follows her nose and the mystery that follows. Another great book in Lyon's series.

I have now completed 7 of Sophie Lyon's books. While I do enjoy the interaction between Gemma and Kira, I can see their role changing from team to teachers. I will miss Kira's skills but I understand she is getting older.
The one aspect of this book I couldn't get my head around is that Cole received a scholarship to college in high school and his age is 22 in the book....a few years too old for this honor. Most students graduate at 18 and then head off to college. Just an error, I guess.

SAR dogs and mystery
The story is deep, sad, entertaining. The characters so very real. Emotions, facts and a story with twists and turns. One fact stood out...early on it was decided Cole was killed by a blow delivered hard. At the end the confession simply said he was pushed and fell. A big discrepancy. But still a good story.
The continuity of characters makes it easy to want more stories in the same line.

The storyline is very intense ---the character reactions are true to life, and the pace is perfect.
As stated in other reviews, the editing, repetition, and facts mix-ups pull the reader's focus from the page. I can't recommend these books with so many errors even though the story content is so good.

Marco
I was disappointed that Marco was not working with Gemma. She worked with Kate. I got to know all the characters in the other 6 books. Most her book was with a new character, which I just, skimmed most of the book. Marco and Gemma are newlyweds, so need more stories of them working together. Proofreading should do a better job.

next steps
The story keeps repeating the aging of Kira. Is it a stretch that Gemma could get a new dog? I thought Scout was going to be that one. Training Kate for Scout was a surprise. Kate feels like a Gemma #2, broken and carrying grief. This story has so many mini stories, I wonder what the next storylines will be.

Incredibly good book!
I love this authors way of writing, it pulls you into the story and when you finish it you feel like you were a part of the town and everything that happened. Great story once again!

obvious errors
Good story. A couple of obvious mistakes. You would have us believe Cole and Travis were graduating high school at age 21-22. Not realistic. Also Elk city being in southwest CO, more tan 2 hours from Ft Collins. Probably more like 3-4 hours.

Love you Kira
I love Sophie Lyon's story telling. The read is easy to follow, you just fall into the pages. You almost feel like you were there in that mountain town finding the clues right along with Kira.

Good story
The story was good. Ages of the seniors in high school were off. 22 is too old for high school. 6 of places Marco's grandmother was referred to as his mother.

This was another excellent book. Gemma, Marco and Kira. Kate and Ben. Wonder if that relationship grows between them. On to the next.
