One night. A deal with a devil. A marriage that threatens everything.
We weren’t supposed to meet. I shouldn’t have survived the night. My fate was sealed—
Until he steps out of the shadows, shielding me with his body as bullets tear through my student apartment.
A total stranger saves my life. A dangerous man with dark eyes and hypnotizing tattoos…who somehow knows my name.
Rem Cosenza steals me from the only existence I’ve ever known, promising the protection I can’t live without.
The catch? I have to become his wife.
It’s not a request. It’s a condition of survival. And my only chance to live long enough to find the monster who murdered my family and wants me dead.
Now, I belong to Rem. My husband. Confined to his penthouse. Sleeping in his bed. I’m the epicenter of a dark, forbidden obsession I can’t begin to understand.
He’s violently protective of me. And I’m becoming addicted to him. His possessiveness. His strength. His hands on my body.
A penniless music student. The most lethal fixer for Chicago’s most powerful crime family. We were never supposed to meet…
Or were we?
I thought I knew how cruel fate can be. I was wrong. Because falling in love with my husband is going to get me killed.
If you live for morally grey antiheroes, welcome to your new obsession.

Jezebel writes dark mafia romance that doesn't just haunt you—it claims you. She’s obsessed with the ruthless men who rule the underworld and the women who find their power in complete surrender. Drop your defenses. Give in. The Omertà Brotherhood is here.
Jez is an American living in the UK with her husband and two boys. When she’s not writing, she’s either washing someone’s football kit (aka soccer uniform) or trying to figure out—yet again—what to make for dinner.
This was such a great mafia romance full of twists, secrets, and a central mystery about why Lena was being targeted. She loses everything, and the only way to keep her safe is for Rem to marry her… whether she wants it or not.
I really enjoyed the dynamic between Lena and Rem the tension, the power imbalance, and the way everything slowly unfolds. Their relationship builds under pressure, which made it even more thrilling.
The pacing kept me hooked the entire time. Just when you think you understand what’s going on, another layer is revealed and the stakes keep rising. I loved the fact you never feel like anyone is truly safe, and you’re constantly questioning who can actually be trusted.
I also loved the side characters, especially Johnny and Bianca. I honestly can’t wait to read their story. And Uncle Uldo?? I need his backstory too giveven just a glimpse into his past would be so interesting. A forbidden romance tied into arranged marriages is exactly the kind of storyline I’d love to see explored.
~Pre-read~ ACR received... Always on a hunt for a mafia romance.. forced marriage? say no more! review coming soon :)
This is a fast-paced mafia dark romance featuring some of my favourite tropes - forced marriage and an age gap. If you enjoy intense dynamics and a lot of danger mixed with romance, this one definitely delivers.
I really enjoyed the overall plot and the rapid story. It has plenty of action that keeps things engaging and makes it easy to stay invested from beginning to end.
The relationship between the main characters develops very quickly, with a strong and immediate connection right from the beginning. Personally, I tend to enjoy a slightly slower build, so I could fully settle into their emotional journey and see their bond deepen over time. That said, the story itself moves really fast, which makes their accelerated connection feel fitting within the context of the plot.
Overall, this was an engaging and entertaining read. It’s a great choice if you’re looking to explore mafia dark romance with plenty of tension, chemistry and spice, especially in a story that keeps things moving from start to finish.
Thank you to Jezebel Thorne and NetGalley for providing me with an ARC 🖤 All opinions are my own.
You know how sometimes you just crave yummy food in the middle of the night? Pizza, ice cream... This book was exactly what I felt reading at 3am.
Mafia romance, dangerous situations, forced marriage, age gap, a lot of spice… it had all the ingredients. And it worked as a fast, bingeable read, perfect as a palate cleanser between heavier books.
That said, our FMC, Lena finds herself in a dangerous situation and our MMC, Rem, comes to her rescue. Together they need to figure out what's going on exactly, because to Rem something feels really off. The plot feels a bit underdeveloped at times and the romance leans heavily into insta love. While it’s marketed as a darker mafia story, it didn’t really feel that dark to me.
I liked the FMC, she handled everything surprisingly well given her situation. The MMC, though… he’s supposed to be this dangerous mafia man, but ends up giving more golden retriever energy, at least when it comes to her. :D:D
The chemistry is there, but things move very fast and because of that we don’t really get much grovel (come on, Rem had to grovel) or deeper emotional payoff.
Overall, fun, spicy, easy to binge at 3am.

4⭐️ Thank you NetGalley for an ARC copy of this book in exchange for an honest review!!
Oh my god, what a good read! This book is addictive, I genuinely couldn't put it down. It's very fast paced and constantly keeps you on the edge of your seat.
The romance between Rem and Lena was undeniable! You can feel their chemistry and love through the pages, and I loved the tension between them!! My only small complaint is that they got together a bit quickly & that gave off insta-love vibes. While their feelings developed fast, their love still came across cleary, and I was able to believe in it. I just would have liked a slightly slower build in the beginning, but I still loved them together.
The plotttt!!! I was hooked the entire time! I needed answers and couldn't stop reading until I got them. The story was very interesting and fast paced. At no point while reading was I bored.
That being said, I very much enjoyed the book and would definitely recommend it to everyone! I genuinely can't wait for the next book in the series!!
I voluntarily read and reviewed this advanced copy via NetGalley. All thoughts and opinions are my own.
I'm the ultimate mafia romance fangirl and I love picking them from the catalog like a metal detector on the beach. Forbidden Fate was a bit of a mess. I didn't get a lot of answers as the majority of the book was mired in confusion. There was no explanation for why the heroine was targeted until the last 20% of the book. This book was also incredibly long. At nearly 400 pages, the plot was stagnant despite its bloated length. I can appreciate that the hero was kinder to the heroine than most mafiosos, but we needed to get snapping. This is mafia romance, not Lord of the Rings. Dial it down! I understand this was the first book in the series, yet I felt like I was missing a lot of context. The hero's best friend and his wife were huge parts of the book. I don't know if they had their own book because they had so much history together. Honestly I preferred them to the main couple. I don't think I'll continue with this series due to the writing choices. I'll keep on reading mafia though, don't you worry your pretty little head. I'm thankful for this opportunity and I'll be sure not to trespass into the forbidden ever again.
Thank you to NetGalley and the publisher for the eARC in exchange for an honest review.
I loved that this book throws you straight into the chaos from chapter one—no slow, drawn-out setup or filler. It immediately pulls you in, which I appreciated.
This has a mix of tropes I’m always here for: mob romance, touch her and die, he falls first, and forced proximity. I’m not usually a huge fan of age gaps, but it didn’t bother me here since it wasn’t overly emphasized. And while I could take or leave the mob aspect in general, it worked well in this story and added to the tension.
Rem was a standout for me. He’s a great morally gray MMC who spends the entire book trying to protect Lena while also piecing together what’s really going on. His intentions were clear, and I liked how consistent he was.
Lena, on the other hand—I almost wish the story had taken a slightly darker turn. At the beginning, I found myself kind of rooting for the accusations against her to be true, just because it would’ve added an extra layer of complexity and unpredictability. As it stands, the romance felt a bit predictable, even though it was still enjoyable.
The ending was satisfying, but I do wish we had gotten a bit more—an extended epilogue would’ve been perfect.
Overall, a solid read with great tropes and a strong MMC. I’d definitely recommend it, especially if you enjoy protective, morally gray heroes.
Forbidden Fate by Jezebel Thorne The Omerta Brotherhood #1
~ Satisfying suspense-filled steamy story that introduced an intriguing new mafia romance that I couldn’t put down ~
What I liked: * Lena Haywood: orphan adopted as a baby, college student, musician, hard worker, strong, communicative, goal to play her violin professionally, has a target on her head, attracted to Rem * Remus “Rem” Cosenza: maestro di giornata for the Cerreti crime family, adopted with his brother Ari by Aldo Cerreti, fixer, lethal, given oat to his family, attracted to Lena and will keep her safe * Johnny Giordano: Rem’s right-hand man, like a brother to Rem, married to Bianca, strong, protective, good friend – Bianca and Johnny’s story is in the series prequel * Aldo Ceretti: capobastone of the Ceretti family, strong, lethal, second son of the family, had an interesting backstory * The protection that Rem offered Lena and the chemistry between them * The rather dark and terrifying “meet-cute” that had Rem and Lena running for their lives * The strong bond of the brotherhood and their vows to all members * That the story didn’t sugarcoat the dark bits * That I could see Rem and Lena being good for and with one another both in and out of the bedroom * The hint of the Russian Mafia that will be part of the series * The mystery of who was trying to kill Lena and finally finding out who was behind it * Lena’s interesting backstory that was revealed toward the end of the story * Wondering who is framing the Ceretti men and having them sent to jail * The plot, pacing, setting, and writing
What I didn’t like: * Who and what I was meant not to like * Having to say goodbye to the characters
Did I like this book? Yes Would I read more by this author? Yes

Mafia romance? ✅ Assassination attempts and car bombs? ✅ An MMC who would burn the world? ✅ This story truly has everything you would want in a mafia story.
Forbidden Fate follows our FMC, Lena, who finds herself in the crosshairs of MMC, Rem. Rem is tasked with taking out Lena as he is the enforcer for the Family. I don't want to spoil it anymore as a whole lots happens in this story.
This story is a typical mafia romance. I, personally, wouldn't call it dark but I can see how something could think it was dark. A LOT happens in the very beginning. There were no breaks; it was all action the entire time.
I appreciated that Lena was incredibly self-aware. She knew here reactions to Rem were out of line. She knew when she was stepping into crazy logic territory. And Rem knew he could not have a miscommunication trope with Lena. They were always upfront and honest with each other. Always laid out their feels, even when they didn't agree.
I would say around 50%, I started to get the sense I knew who the bad guy was then by 75%, I absolutely knew. Didn't take away from story much but it was something you could see a mile away.
The spice was spicing. The cinnamon roll MMC but only for his girl. The FMC not a damsel in distress but also knew her limits which was refreshing. The side characters were funny and relatable. For a mafia romance, I would definitely recommend. Can't wait to read Bianca and Johnnys story next!

hands down this has got to be one of the most captivating books ever, it wastes no time into getting right into the action and keeps you on edge the whole way through. i was hooked from the first page alone (which is rare for me). at first the mmc is frustratingly indecisive but the growth in him feels real. and the fmc does not trust him very much at all which wholely makes them have a lot of tension, its just perfect. im not gonna lie though there were points where i was so sure i knew what was going to happen and it was quite the opposite. i could not have predicted anything that was going to happen at all like the plot twists!?!! completely caught me off guard and feeling all the emotions at once, i was stressing the whole way through the last half of the book (not in a bad way). nothing could have prepared me for the later events. everything that was happening just wouldnt allow me to put the book down, i found myself reading page after page continuously towards the end. omg and the ending!?!! really really had me on edge but it was all perfect by the last chapter thankfully. and the side characters johnny and bianca were the cutest little couple ever and i just absolutely adore them, ill defo be reading the prequel. oh gosh and the next book needs to come out now, about alik whose seen in this book for a short moment. hes just such a mysterious character and i just need to know more about him. i genuinely believe from the bottom of heart that everyone needs to read this and look out for the release on 23rd march!!
First of all, thank you to NetGalley and Every Rose Publishing for giving me the opportunity to read this ARC, it’s my first ever ARC so safe to say I was excited!
This book is definitely fast-paced!! From the first page there’s action and something constantly going on which I appreciated because sometimes it takes me a while to get into a book, I didn’t have that problem with this one.
The FMC, Lena, finds her whole life turned upside down in a single night, and who’s there to give her a way out? Our MMC, Rem. I really liked Lena’s character, she wasn’t your typical damsel in distress and knew how to hold her own which I loved. I think I’m used to extremely morally grey men in Mafia romances because Rem (to me at least) came across a bit tame and a bit of a cinnamon roll but that might just be me!
One thing I wasn’t hugely in love with was the almost “insta love” aspect. For me personally, I think the romance aspect happened a tad too quickly for my taste but given how fast paced the rest of the book is, I guess it makes sense to a certain extent. HOWEVER, the spice in this book was impeccable!!!
The plot was good, pretty straight forward and might I say a bit predictable because I did see what was coming. Saying that, it didn’t take away from the reading experience and was still satisfying to read.
In terms of how “dark” the book is, I wouldn’t say it’s really dark as I’ve read worse but some readers might find some parts disturbing so definitely worth checking out the trigger warnings to be safe.
Lina lived a humble life. After a devastating night leaves her with no home, no safety, no future.. she barely escapes with her life… only to find herself in even greater danger. Suddenly, she’s being hunted, with no explanation and no one she can trust.
Except the devastatingly handsome stranger who looks as lethal as he does delicious. Enter Rem Cosenza. He’s not a hero, but he becomes the sole reason she's still breathing. Deeply rooted in a world of power, violence, and unbreakable loyalty, Rem is the kind of man people fear. But for reasons she doesn’t understand, he chooses to protect her.
What started as a desperate escape from gunfire quickly reveals something deeper. Their fates were always meant to collide.
This was such a good read—addictive, consuming, and everything I enjoy in a mafia romance.
🖤 Forced marriage 🖤 Secrets on secrets 🖤 He falls first (and hard) 🖤 Touch her and ☠️ 🖤 “My wife” obsession 🖤 Violent enforcer MMC 🖤 Fast-paced chaos 🖤 Kismet pull
This story doesn’t ease you in—it grabs you by the throat. The attraction is immediate, the danger never lets up, and the pull between them is inescapable. He doesn’t just fall…he unravels. Breaks. Bends. Burns every rule he’s ever lived by just to keep her. And she doesn’t stand a chance against a man who’s already decided she’s his.
If you love a man who would destroy his loyalties, his world, himself just to have her… this is definitely for you. And that ending?! Jezebel yanked those great string.
I’m to excited for the Arkhangel story in book two!
Everything changes that night. She was supposed to be at home with her aunt and it was only by a fluke. She wasn’t when the house is engulfed in flames and her aunt dies, but she isn’t safe. And when he shows up and takes her, she doesn’t know what to think. People are trying to kill her and he seems to be the only one that’s willing to save her. She doesn’t understand what’s going on between her feelings for him or the fact that someone wants her dead. He is the nephew of a high ranking mafia Capo. He is nothing she is used to, but he tells her the only way she can survive is if she marries him. This one has a lot going on, including some twisted family secrets that unravel as the story unfolds. But at the core, they have a strong chemistry, he is morally gray, and OTT, but they also find love in the midst of all the drama. She thinks she’s lost everything, but she may have found what she didn’t know she was missing. Their chemistry is so hot. They must have been faded to be together all along if you like mafia drama this one might be for you.

The magnetic pull between these characters is impossible to ignore. Having a music student lose everything in a single night only to be saved by the deadliest fixer in Chicago made for such an atmospheric opening. The transition from her life as a violinist to being at the top of a hitman’s list kept me glued to the page. The chemistry between Rem and his new bride is electric. He is the ultimate possessive, protective anti-hero—the kind of man who will betray his own bloodline just to keep her safe. I loved the marriage as a survival tactic setup and how the My Wife energy was dialed up to the max. It’s a riveting, one-sitting read that perfectly balances the grit of the Italian mafia with a he falls first romance that feels both sinful and soulful. This is a standout pick for anyone craving a dark, forbidden tale where a dangerous protector is the only thing standing between the heroine and the grave.

Forbidden Fate gives us the story of Rem and Lena as they try to sift through the web of deceit and lies they’ve been thrust into. It’s the first book in the series and it’s a pretty good start. The characters are likable, the action is there from the start, and the love story is good as well. I really liked Rem and how he wasn’t the typical mafia man in that he wasn’t afraid to show his love for Lena. Lena herself was a strong FMC as well, I really liked how she didn’t intentionally put herself in harms way and how she listened to Rem when he was trying to keep her safe. The twist was good, I didn’t see it coming so that was nice. I will say though that I do think the pacing could have been a bit better - there were parts where it was so fast but others where it kind of slogged down a bit. I also would have liked to see more of the relationship development between the characters as everything happens with them so fast.

The first chapter leaves you hooked. That's exactly the start I needed to leave behind a very harsh reader slump I was going through. Forbidden Fate is a Dark Mafia romance that even if it's fast (although considering the lenght of the book, it doesn't feel rushed?) it's never letting you relax. Not even for one second.
Both Rem and Lena are such complex characters but they complement each other so well. Rem is both intriguing and sweet, just exactly what Lena needs at that point in her life. Lena is a character who, despite things being thrown her way, she finds herself growing stronger because of herself. Both of them fit like puzzle pieces that never feel out of place. The plot is a bit stressful but that's what you get when you're signing up for a Dark Romance. The side characters are fantastic, especially Johnny and Bianca. I was very much rooting for all of them in such a complex world.
I loved it so much, the only reason I am not putting 5 stars is because I want to read more!
This dark, forbidden tale is a standout pick for anyone craving a riveting, one-sitting read that perfectly balances the grit of the Italian mafia with a 'he falls first' romance that feels both sinful and soulful.

The twists, the turns, the spice? It was a beautiful blend of mafia, romance and just a little deceit from some of the characters.
The story features around Lena and Rem and my god, it was 100 at the beginning and I was so here for it. Although started off in an unconventional way, the way they cared and loved each other was amazing to see. Especially in the last 100 pages, they came together to really thwart their enemy.
I didn't see the twist coming although I had a inkling of what it could be. I was so glad it worked out! All of the characters had been written with so much depth and their growth throughout the book really shone through.
If you like spicy mafia romance, this is the book for you!

🔥 Italian mafia 🔥 Arranged marriage 🔥 Forbidden Love Romance 🔥 Forced proximity 🔥 Morally grey MMC
Trigger Warnings ⚠️ Stalking, torture
OMG, this book had me hooked from the start. I could not put it down and read it in a whole sitting. Action packed from the outset.
This storyline follows the FMC Lena, who is rescued/forced to stay with the MMC Rem, the mafias enforcer. It gives off Stock Holme Syndrome vibes but Lena is aware very aware of the situation and her feelings/reactions.
The spice . . . dang it was in point!!
A lot of twists and turns throughout which kept me guessing of who dunnit. When the reveal happened, I was shocked. A very well written spicy mafia romance.
Really looking forward to Bianca and Johnny's story ❤️
Lena has always been on her own. First her birth mother dies two days after having her. Then her adoptive parents die. Now her aunt is the only family she has left. Until everything changes, a chance audition to play in the orchestra keeps her from visiting her aunt. Then her apartment is broken into and she's shot at. Rem I have watched her and still don't believe she an enemy. But my uncle and brother says she is working with our enemies. Now she's under my protection. Nobody will hurt her without going through me. This is a compelling story that twists so much you wonder exactly who is telling the truth. Is Lena a traitor and help to undermine his family. Can Rem actually protect her. Who exactly is trying to kill her. This is a book you won't want to put down. I can't wait for the next in this series
This is a dark mafia romance that completely hooked me and I’m absolutely obsessed with Lena and Rem’s story.
From the very first page, Thorne pulls you in and doesn’t let go. Her writing is gripping, immersive, and makes it impossible to put the book down. I was fully drawn into Lena and Rem’s world and felt every twist and turn along the way.
The story kicks off with the death of Lena’s aunt and an attempt on Lena’s life, setting the stage for a fast-paced and intense plot. She’s saved by Rem, who has been investigating her, and their connection only deepens as the story unfolds.
This book is packed with suspense, unexpected twists, and emotional depth. It’s easily one of the best mafia romances I’ve read, and I’m already excited to dive into the rest of the series and the prequel.
I really enjoyed this book! The story started off immediately with excitement, which grabbed my attention right away. I would definitely recommend this book to someone who is just getting started with mafia romance books.
The main characters, Lena and Rem, are super cute together. However, I was hoping their relationship would have been built up a bit more slowly. In this book, it was more of an insta-love situation, which I don’t always prefer.
Rem (MMC) is a very patient man when it comes to Lena, and he does everything he can to protect her, no matter the consequences. The plot twist was incredibly well thought out I definitely didn’t see it coming!
Thank you Netgalley & Every Rose Publishing for the opportunity to read this ARC.
Lena’s home goes up in flames and someone is trying to kill her. Her savior is Rem but is he really saving her?
This was a roller coaster ride of a story. There is a lot going on while the romance simmers between Lena and Rem. There is violence and sexual action so please check the triggers before reading. The flow and pacing was good. I didn’t feel like the story stalled at any point. The ending was what you want in a romance even a “dark romance”.
I enjoyed Lena and Rem’s story and the author has built a very nice world to visit. This is the first book in this series and can’t wait to see what comes next.

I loved this book! This book has an engaging plot with romantic and spicy scenes, it was the perfect combination. Rem is the typical mafia man, ruthless and savage until he meets Lena, the woman that doesn't back down and won't let him do whatever he wants. Lena is someone that has lost everything dear to her and now her life is on the line too but even though she is dealing with so much grief, she doesn't let herself be weak. Rem and Lena have a very strong chemistry and they are the cutest together. I also really loved Bianca and Johnny. The plot twist was a bit predictable but I still enjoyed it very much. I want to thank the author,Netgalley and the publisher for sending me an ARC copy in exchange for a review.

Wow, I am still breathless reading this book I couldn't put this book down, the story was written well and the characters were captivating. This book had so many roller-coaster rides that they all meet up for a great explosion. Rem was sent to take her out except bullets come flying towards them, Rem makes the decision to protect her because nothing made sense to him. Lena finds it hard to trust him, he was to end her but now he is protecting her, and every corner they turn it's just another threat. Rem's uncle is from the largest Italian Mafia family in the world and members of the 'Ndrangheta organisation. There are trigger warnings so beware, I personally liked them they added to the story.
Wow!!! This book was amazing. I was captured in the first 10 pages. I couldn't put it down. I was guessing until the very end.
Rem is a hitman brought in to kill Lena. Lena is an innocent who is all alone. From the moment these two meet you can feel the chemistry. There is so much love for two people, who in every sense of the word, should hate each other. Lena thinks that Rem is just the bad guy who stole who her from her life, Rem thinks that she is working with the rival family to kidnap and sell women. Is anything as it seems?
This book had so many twists and turns. I was captivated. Give this book a chance and you will not be disappointed. Definitely in my top five of the year.

I absolutely loved the book. I binged it in one day … there was so much going on every time I thought I was at a good pause point something else happened.
Lena has had a hard life and it just got harder and she has no clue why.
Rem enters her orbit and saves her but has secrets.
This is a dark romance .. the life the actions the attempts on life and other items
This has a man that decides before he realizes it that Lena is his … and the touch her and die vibes are real.
This has multiple threads and the ending I was not prepared for .. let’s say I didn’t even have the person pulling the strings on my radar.
This is Book 1 of The Omertà Brotherhood series. And a FANrastic start it is! Look forward to more from this world.
'In a world built on loyalty and violence, our marriage is a death sentence. We’re forbidden. Hunted. And we’re both going to burn.'
The characters were very complex and complicated and perfectly steamy together. Plot was intriguing and intense and well paced. World building was excellent and solidly drawn. Thoroughly enjoyed and highly recommend!

So, I will give this a 3.75. For me this wasn't true Dark Mafia it seemed like Enemies to Lovers would have fit better. Again, that is my opinion because I have read some truly WTF Dark Mafia. This started of really strong and I liked the action from the beginning of the book. The mystery of who was after Lena was good in the beginning however, by the time I got to the middle of the book it became very predictable as to what was going on and who was the person behind the attempts on Lena's life. The ending also felt rushed! Overall, it is a decent read for anyone who wants an introduction into the Dark Mafia romance genre.
Thank you Netgalley and Ever Rose publishing for the e-arc!
I am a huge dark mafia romance fan but sometimes it can be a hit or a miss. Usually the plots are repetitive and it’s hard to find something unique in this genre. For the first 10% the book started action packed and I was hooked. But as the story progressed it seems like the plot was dragging, there wasn’t a lot going on plot progression, and the relationship between the fmc and mmc was insta lustful. I unfortunately dnf’ed. I wish there was more focus on getting answers the fmc needed, that her decisions were not irritating, and I wanted something deeper in terms of the connection between both characters.
Wow! Forbidden Fate by Jezebel Thorne was just what I look for in a mafia story. It kept me reading when I should have been doing other things like sleeping. In Forbidden Fate we meet Lena Haywood a hardworking girl trying to get an audition with the symphony as a violinist. Our leading man is Rem. Rem Cosenza is an enforcer for the Cerroti family. Rem has been ordered to kill Lena. Instead of killing Lena, Rem takes her under his protection. This book has a lot going on it will not bore you. It is the first book I have read by Jezebel Thorne but it will not be the last.
