The first of three ill-fated Imperial spin-off series, I was most excited for Nova: Centurion since it was the first Nova ongoing we'd had for Rich Rider in almost 10 years. And with Jed MacKay at the helm? Guaranteed gold, right?

Unfortunately, this feels very truncated, which I think is going to be a common theme of these series. MacKay was clearly getting ready to do something bigger, bringing back characters from Nova's past like Ravenous and Cammi, assembling a little team around him and making sure that continuity stuff going all the way back to Annihilation was being handled well, as he usually does.

And then it all ends in one issue and kind of just goes "That's all folks!" without any indication as to what these characters are doing next. It's fine as a one-off, I guess, but when there are clearly glimmers of a larger iceberg being uncovered across the first five issues, only for it to sink the reader right away, it's a damn shame.

I wanted to give this book 3.5 stars. I was on the edge but it just was not enough for a round up. An okay continuation of Nova since Imperial. I admit i was not to biggest Nova fan to begin with so I missed some of the history but it is pretty easy to follow.

Richard Rider, the last Nova and surviving link to Xandar carries the whole culture and their Worldmind. Fortunately this gives him a lot of power and knowledge however he also carries survivors guilt and the burden of needing to buy enough power to keep the Worldmind running. This forces him to do and take dubious job and even heroics for a price.

A bit of a full circle moment when Nova meets people responsible for his current positions. He does come across very much like how the Guardians of the Galexy did in their first movie. That is the feel I got reading this book, just slightly more watered down. The book finishes with a variant cover gallery.

decent little nova comic. would be ok if it was the start of a new ongoing, but it appears this is all we get. Also the art is a bit weird not sure I like how they are drawing Richard Rider (without the mask).

But if you are a nova fan, its a decent little arc.

cammi returns. has a problem. wasnt very interesting or exciting. I miss a well written Richard a lot.

I understand why Marvel fans hates Marvel. They give a good character time to shine, with a good writer alongside him, let him jog a little and then BAM cancelled, fuck you reader
