I escaped the beast who bought me at auction. I thought I could take my throne back alone. I was wrong.
I only have one option left. Go back to the beast.
But this time, I have a muzzle for the monster. A choke-chain to bring him to heel. I'll use him. Control him. Pray that he'll keep me alive long enough to take what's mine.
But every night I'm under his roof, the line between strategy and surrender gets thinner. And every fight ends the same way: with his hand at my throat and me begging him not to stop.
He bought me. He chained me. He's still the only thing standing between me and whoever wants me dead.
Losing him would end me. But letting him break me might be worse.
The Beast Who Broke Me is book 2 of a dark MM romance trilogy following the same couple and ends on a cliffhanger. Expect captivity, obsession, possessiveness, toxic dynamics, and all the red flags. These antiheroes will earn their happily ever after, but they’ll have to fight hard to get there.

Leighton Greene has been writing stories since she was old enough to hold a pencil. Her first book was a choose-your-own-adventure style book about deciding what to eat for breakfast. It didn't shake the New York Times bestseller list, but she still has a copy of it.
After spending some time writing in academia, fanfiction and corporate reporting, Leighton decided she should probably do what she actually wanted to do, which was to write commercial fiction. So she did. She writes gay romance and, when the mood strikes, erotica as L.J. Greene.
Leighton lives with her partner and her cockatiel on the east coast of Australia.
I NEED LEIGHTON GREENE TO STEP TO THE FRONT OF THE CLASS RIGHT NOW!!!!
OMG THIS WAS GOOOD! Talk about freaking delicious!!!!!!!
Cal and Dami are back sweeter, spicier, and more venomous! Even though in my heart I knew Dami wouldn't truly hurt Cal that over-the-stairs scene I swore he was gonna go through with it.
Leighton is smart with her titles; since book one, we've been using the title Beast, but it wasn't until this continuation that the title truly earned the name because I'm not gonna lie, DAMIANO definitely was awakened in his beastly form because daaaaamn siiiir!
Personally, I underestimated the man that is Damiano Orsini lol and it's no surprise he broke Caligula.
“I just nod, because what else is there to say? He owns me. He hurts me. He puts himself in front of knives and bullets for me. The math of Damiano Orsini doesn’t add up, and I’ve stopped trying to make it.”
Now before I forget why I'm here lol it was so good seeing Luca, Nick, and even Finch again especially my baby Nick Fontana the only Gee I ever trusted besides Seb.
Speaking of, there is no way Seb went the way that traitor said he did, I REFUSE TO BELIEVE THAT JUDAS UNTIL I'VE GOTTEN PROOF.
Oh lord, when I started this series, I didn't expect to be this invested in the other families, especially the Clemenzas and the Gees!!!!!
Big Gee is an airhead scumbag that deserves the full wrath of that is Luca D’Amato because make no mistake he may be the Morelli Don but let's not forget how he became so and Big Gee has made a huge mistake.
Feel as if I'm rambling but this second book I devoured twice already just because! I laughed and sobbed especially the last few chapters and I don't think I like Leighton for what she's doing to my boys.
“Caligula sits on the loveseat. I sit next to him, feeling like some giant bear sitting down to take tea with Goldilocks and Snow White.”
Lmao I reread this scene unhealthily lol.
Overall this was a smashing hit and I can't wait for the final installment in the series, job well done Leighton!
warning!! this series is not for the faint of heart. it is not like the other series’ in this universe. it is far darker. please read the warnings before starting the series.
truthfully, with how dark the content is, it is not something i thought i would like. however, i love this universe so much and greene’s style of writing, i trusted her. i was right to, it was as easy to get wrapped up in this world as i have in all her others. the second book was a great follow up to the first.
the relationship development between caligula and damiano was so perfectly executed it in this book. it had the right build up, so that hopefully in the third book we can finally see them fully focus on coming to terms with their real feelings.
the spice is dark, but so sexy because… they like it like that. it’s less harsh than in the first book, though.
i’m so glad i only had to wait one day after reading the first one to get to read the second one. except it took me 4 hours to read it and i now have to wait until october to finally get our hea. and after that cliffhanger… 😭 i genuinely don’t know how i’m going to survive. this is why i hate reading WIP’s, but i just wasn’t ready to be finished with the mob universe. i feel so sad now that i am.
*will come back to add in details about the story. initial review on my phone right after finishing*
Damiano will finally end Caligula. After he suddenly ran away and Dam got him back, he’s more determined than ever. He can’t trust Cal. After that, he’ll probably die himself soon, he’s okay with that, he's tired of life. Well, it isn’t so far, yet, he’ll have to wait. Sneaky Cal found a way to stay alive a bit longer. Others want Caligula dead also. Damiano is still protecting Cal. There are more mafia families involved. Read it yourself!
What a harsh read this was, the hate (and heat) was intense. I kept wondering what would happen next. Both men are unpredictable af! There aren’t any soft moments, it’s rough, raw, primal, and full of vicious times. And oh boy there’s a wild cliffhanger! Why am I doing this to myself 😭 It was a great read! Can’t wait to read book 3!
Why did I think this was a duet and not a trilogy?!?! I can't wait for the conclusion 😌 that ending was just brutal, both Damiano and Cal are in mortal danger and freaking Sammy just left Cal there.. 😡 just as I was feeling sorry for him.. I just hope Rosa is ok..
Damiano and Cal and their hate/love relationship is giving me whiplash honestly. I'd wish they just get it together!!
I need more though, I want them to find their happy ending 😩😭
I cannot believe the 2nd book ended the way it did. I knew it would end in cliffhanger but OH, THE CLIFFHANGER. How am I supposed to live the next few months not knowing what happens next? This is torture and I’m planning on suing for emotional damage.
Nobody, and I will repeat this, nobody has done Mafia for me like Leighton Greene has. The plot, the suspense, the so well developed characters, and I’m talking all of them, nobody important is generic. From their names, to their personal background, to the way they do things. I finished the book in one day because I could not put it down, the story flows so seamlessly and you get so invested right from the start.
This the 2nd book of a trilogy so skipping the first book is not an option. Where do I even begin? First, I loved seeing the Morellis. I did not expect them to be the culprits when I finished the first book, and I’m glad because I was so afraid Cal was going to get hurt. And yes, he does get hurt, a lot, by Damiano, so brace yourself because the emotional rollercoaster is long. The book is fast paced and there are no unimportant filler scenes.
The mix of cruelty and tenderness between Cal and Dami makes them explosive. They are cruel to each other because they each have a goal, but there is also so much yearning, they are falling hard and do not want to acknowledge it. I’m very happy to see that by the end of this book, their relationship is more forgiving, but not without still holding each other accountable for the messed up things they did, I’m glad that they are starting to choose each other, in the way that Cal is also trying to protect Rosa, Sammy and Vito, the way that Dami is choosing Cal over the Giulianos and revenge.
Who is after the Clemenzas? I still do not know and this point, I really can’t think of anyone. I was convinced it was Tiberius until I met him. Am I missing something? Somebody please tell me. Could Luca have the Clemenza ring? What was the real relationship between Cesario and Vincente? Am I the only one who is thinking that they were more than “best friends”? Nonna’s letter just raised more questions, too. I’m really hoping that Seb Conti is ok, for the sake of my heart, please let him live. He was so loyal and so sweet, even though he appeared so little, I really liked him, it really is a shame that he is not Boss. Is Sammy really going to leave Cal behind? My heart will shatter in a million peaces if he does. Who is going to save Cal and Dami?
This trilogy has on a chokehold, I know there is HEA because the author already said so but can my heart take whatever is going to happen in between? I really hope Big Gee and Daniel King each get what they deserve. I need time to fly so I can have the third book on my hands already.
He’s not a prince. I don’t know why I ever called him that. He’s always been a king. - Damiano
Excuse my language but. Son. Of. A . Bxtch!! These cliffhangers are killing me!! Leighton, Leighton, Leighton.. why do you do this to us? I know we were to expect a cliffhanger, but this one was like two ticking time bombs at once and no morally grey antihero alpha male in sight! I mean, what can we actually expect, considering the first book ended with a cliffhanger as well?
The Beast Who Broke Me is the 2nd book of The Clemenza series, and if you haven't read this 1st book, stop reading this and go do so! Get that assignment done! Now, last time we left off, Caligula left the protection of Damiano's house, feeling like he got played. Only to be kidnapped by who freaking knows? Fortunately, we find out soon in the beginning of this book. But Dami doesn't see it as a kidnapping. He just knows Cal left his home and he is PO'd!!
I really thought they were falling in love in the first book, but now, there's nothing but hate, distrust and.. the breaking of a man. Only for that man to rise above the ashes like the Phoenix. Hopefully, Caligula will survive whatever the other New York families have for him, as some are still vying to end his Family. Plus they're super homophobic. Except for one Family. The D'amato's, and no one goes against Luca and his husband Finch D'amato!
He wants Cal protected and who better to do so than the one who's been obsessed with him for over a decade? Yet, Dami still has his own Family business to deal with, and Big Gee of the Gulianos are not Team D'amato or Team Clemenza. Damiano is back in his head focused on his hate for Cal, knowing he was being used by him. Cal can't help continue to try to manipulate and distrusts Dami. There is one thing they do share though. You know what they say, there's a thin line between love and hate. For these two, on the surface though, it's lust not love.
I was really in my feelings reading this book because I want them to finally admit to each other how they really feel. They can't even admit it to themselves but actions tend to speak louder than words! And I know it's a dark romance, so everything is meant to be tragic but I'm grateful this series is a trilogy because I don't know if my heart could take it anymore. Leighton knew what she was doing! That's why I'm such a fan of hers!
Just wanted to thank her for providing me an advanced reading copy in reciprocity of my honest review, and I hope it helps you, me fellow reader, get caught up in your feelings too, because I can't be the only one. Now, let us patiently wait until the last book, The Beast Who Begged Me, to be released. Fingers crossed there's a HEA, cuz the title leaves me wanting.
The Beast Who Broke Me takes everything that made the first book addictive, the obsession, the power struggles, the toxicity, the tension and cranks it up another level.
Damiano and Caligula continue to be one of the most chaotic, destructive couples I've ever rooted for. Neither man is remotely predictable, and every interaction feels like it could end in murder, betrayal, or something far more complicated. Damiano is determined to destroy Caligula, yet somehow remains the one constantly protecting him. Meanwhile, Caligula refuses to stay down, always finding another move to make when it seems like he's finally out of options.
The relationship is not soft, sweet, or healthy, and that's exactly the point. This is a dark romance built on obsession, control, manipulation, and a dangerous dependence neither man can escape. The line between hatred and desire is practically nonexistent, creating an intense push-and-pull dynamic that kept me completely hooked.
Beyond the romance, the expanding mafia conflict adds another layer of tension. New players enter the game, alliances shift, and the sense that danger is closing in from every direction keeps the pace relentless. Every chapter left me wondering what disaster was coming next.
This book is brutal, raw, and emotionally exhausting in the best way. There are very few moments of peace, but that's what makes the story so compelling. Damiano and Caligula are constantly at war with each other, themselves, and everyone around them.
And that ending? Absolutely cruel. The cliffhanger left me staring at the page in disbelief and immediately needing book three. If you loved the first instalment and enjoy dark, toxic antiheroes whose relationship is equal parts obsession and destruction, this sequel delivers everything you could want and then some. Highly recommend I received a free arc and this is my honest review
I was so excited for this second book, I had forgotten that Caligula had been captured once he snuck out of Damiano’s house but it all came back quickly. I was eager to see what Damiano would do to get Caligula back and what was in store for them. I was surprised at the chain of events that followed his capture with the other mob/mafia families but then also eager to see how long it would take for them to give in to their attraction despite their power struggles.
Damiano spent so long planning his vengeance that he can’t just drop it and Caligula can’t fully trust the man that spent his life hating him even if they burn together. Damiano being the Beast that he is really does break Caligula but maybe this is necessary for them both to realise a few truths and that people can change. Meanwhile, Caligula is still being hunted and they have to find Tiberus. I loved that they were both protective of Damiano’s little ‘family’ even if Caligula hinted otherwise to try to keep control of Damiano.
It was good to see Caligula easily slip into the man his grandfather would have wanted him to be and see the faithful fall so quickly into place under him (even if his motives are different) Caligula can’t hide the way he was brought up and exudes finesse and control at all times. As the book progresses they both become more invested in finding out who is trying to kill Caligula and discover new truths in the last part of the book. I still don’t know who it was with so many different mafia options and the Bratva. The ending left me holding my breath and I just don’t know how they will come out of this but I am so excited for the final instalment and to see them getting their HEA.
I wasn’t ready for that cliffhanger! I knew things wouldn’t get resolved in this book but I wasn’t prepared for how things went down in the last two chapters😭
I knew from last book’s end that things would shift between Cal and Damiano. It was a given that that huge misunderstanding was going to ruin whatever trust they had built but it hurt to see how deep the damage could be.
I hated seeing Caligula being treated like that by Damiano. He didn’t deserve it, especially after we find out the truth. Damiano’s actions really honored the title of the book😅 He broke Caligula in such a way that at one point I wanted to get inside the book and put some sense into him.
Sassy, snarky Caligula was my favorite thing about him and seeing him broken like that really hurt my heart. At least Damiano realized what he’d done and felt guilty.
One thing is for sure, Leighton leveled up on the spice! Holy smokes did these two heat up this book🥵 I loved the hate segss. I love that they supposedly hate each other but can’t keep their hands off one another.
Damiano couldn’t decide whether he wanted to unalive Caligula or make love to him. He can deny it all he wants, but he’s so in love him and that’s why he felt so betrayed by Caligula leaving. He fell in love with the man he’s supposed to hate and loves that he’s part of his little family.
I can’t wait for the next book. This series has me a chokehold and I’m just obsessed with it. I hope we don’t have to wait too long to find out what happens with these two because I need them to be happy already 🥺
Cal’s whole family was wiped out in a war between Mafia families. Cal found it difficult to mourn his grandfather, Don Lou Clemenza, who was a cruel and violent man, but he missed his father terribly. And he was raised to expect a lifestyle that doesn’t exist without family wealth to back it. With the entire family gone, he is destitute and friendless until he comes up with the plan to auction himself off to the highest bidder. A year at the hands of a buyer wouldn’t be fun, but with a few million to soothe his bruised ego, he will be able to create a life for himself. Dami’s hatred for the Clemenzas has known no bounds since his father was killed in his own home. The fact that Dami feels that he did not perform at his best at that time contributes to his anger. So when he finds out that the remaining Clemenza, always called the Golden Prince, is to be auctioned off, Dami’s dream is fulfilled. He will have revenge on the Clemenzas. He will break the Golden Prince. And he does it. He meant to. He accomplishes it. Although breaking Cal seems to break Dami, too. Then why does it feel so horribly hollow? Why do his faithful self-created family seem angry with him for doing it? And why does his crime family seem to think breaking the Clemenza isn’t enough? Why do they want what’s left of the Golden Prince turned over to the Bratva? The whole situation begins to make you homesick for the relatively normal relationship of Finch and Luca Morelli (who, by the way, make a brief cameo appearance in this book)! If Cal and Dami survive the latest cliffhanger, I hope they can repair each other’s brokenness and reach a Happy Ever After.
It’s rare you get a real enemies to lovers story. Captive Prince is the gold standard. Comparatively this one comes close but in that way in which I can give you a chocolate chip cookie from a store bought package… or I can give you one made by your grandmother exactly how you like it. The recipes are different but the end product is the same by name. And even though they taste different you can recognize they are the same thing.
Leighton Greene really upped her writing game in this one. I ate this up so fast. And now I have to wait till October for the last installment.
Some things: 🏳️🌈 ends on a major cliffhanger 🏳️🌈 vengeance in the name of the father vs. restoration of a family name 🏳️🌈 The only one who gets to hurt you is me 🏳️🌈 the lows are gut wrenching 🏳️🌈 do anything to survive vibes 🏳️🌈 forced proximity 🏳️🌈 while it can be read as a standalone I wouldn’t recommend it. Major players in book 2 are introduced from her first series and understanding the essence who they are really helps you see the big picture of what is happening here. 🏳️🌈 Caligula isn’t Laurent, obvi. But he has that same princely composure and snake like intellect and frightening ability to charm or frighten anyone. 🏳️🌈 Dami isn’t Damen, but his brute force and knack for saving Caligula from death from others hands isn’t so similar to TCP Trilogy. 🏳️🌈 strict T/B roles 🏳️🌈 I felt the characters inner dialog important and not excessive, to show how they grapple with complex captor/captive dynamics and dependence on each other for survival in a kill or be killed world.
The Beast Who Broke Me is the second book in this dark and twisted series and picks up right where book one left off.
I'll be honest, this book for a good half of it made me really dislike both of these men. I understand that they went through a lot and were doing what they thought was best, but jeesh, these two need to work on themselves a bit. Both Cal and Dami were extremely selfish and conceited which is where my dislike started to stem from.. HOWEVER, at about the halfway point in this book we got to finally see Cal turn over a new leaf, or as Dami said, shed his skin. I liked finally being able to see a different side to Cal, one where he's still the boss he wants to be but stopped pretending to be like his cruel grandfather. Once he finally got out of his own way is when this story really took off for me.
I still have so many questions that have yet to be answered and this book left me with so many more, so all that to say I'm really looking forward to the next book. And even though Dami and Cal definitely aren't 'good guys', I think they are better than those trying to kill innocent people.
(Also, I really hope Sammy gets his own story some day, his character intrigues me! I wish he wasn't so cold to Cal but I also understand why he is..)
Anyways, this story was great and I can't wait to read the next continuation of this plotline!
The Beast Who Broke Me by Leighton Greene is book 2 in the Clemenza Family trilogy. I have been dying for this book since the cliffhanger in book 1. It took a few pages for me to remember exactly what happened at the end of book 1, but then I was locked in. I love Dami and Caligula so much. Both of them have their moments where they are acting unlikable in their desire for revenge or survival. However, I can understand the reasoning behind their actions. It doesn’t always make it easy to read, but I completely understand why they behave in certain ways. Of course, seeing Luca and Finch again is always refreshing. These two are such amazing characters. The author does such a great job of creating the dynamics of all of these mafia families trying to coexist in the same territory. It makes for a compelling story. Caligula and Dami don’t know who to trust and neither do we. I love it. But just as the two made a decision to trust each other, the second cliffhanger happens. I am so very excited to read the conclusion of their story. I wonder what will happen to the Clemenza Family. Will Cal be the Don? I don’t know but I am on the edge of my seat.
I received an ARC from the author for my honest review.
Caligula escapes Damiano Orsini, the beast who once bought and caged him, thinking he can reclaim his throne alone — but he quickly learns he can’t survive without help. With no other options, he returns to Damiano determined to use and control him instead of being controlled. Living under Damiano’s roof again blurs every line. Strategy turns into surrender, and the man who chained him becomes the only thing standing between Caligula and whoever wants him dead. Wanting him is dangerous… but losing him might be worse.
The push and pull between Caligula and Damiano only intensifies in this instalment, swinging sharply between brutality and unexpected tenderness. Their dynamic is volatile, emotional, and constantly shifting, and I loved how many clear, vivid feelings were woven through every moment. Both men make miscalculations along the way, but the biggest mistakes hit right at the end — and that cliffhanger lands hard. The story captures perfectly how thin the line between domination, dependence, anger, and longing can be, and how tangled their connection has become. A gripping continuation full of emotion, tension, and raw intensity. I’m absolutely ready for the next part. This was an MM story with mature content.
Second in trilogy (Clemenza Family), must be read in order. Former captor/captive. Forced proximity. Size difference. Age gap. Found family. Dual POV. Cliffhanger. Heed content warnings.
Immediately picking up where the first book left off, Caligula doesn’t get far when he tries to run from Damiano, and they are further entangled when more mafia/mob families are involved. Both Cal and Dami again try to come out on top in their power struggle, and the hate and lust still remain strong.
This entry certainly didn’t shy away from the cruelty Cal and Dami inflict on each other, and it was difficult to read at times as there are no soft emotions between them. Cal and Dami have a good read on the other and I enjoyed seeing Cal flex his mafia savvy and Dami become even more protective of the younger man. The external pressures and danger to them are becoming more extreme and of course just when there is the possibility of them forming a partnership the story has its cliffhanger which is a nail biter for sure. I am still thoroughly invested in seeing how the MC’s survive, navigate a trusting relationship, and possibly come out on top. 4.5 rounded up
The Giuliano enforcer and his Clemenza prince are back for round two, and this time the power balance is shifting so often that even Dami can't tell who's in control - but it's definitely not him, with or without the threat of a collar.
If you were worried about the cliffhanger in book one, never fear - the reunion is swift and startling, so the boys aren't apart for long. But the appearance of Luca, Finch, and another Clemenza heir adds a whole new level of questions to the mix, and as Damiano begins to understand the magnitude of what he's done to Cal, his twisted plans for vengeance become muddied by what he actually feels for the one man he's supposed to hate more than any other.
I won't lie and say this book didn't twist me up even more than the first installment, but if you've read any of the other Leighton Greene mafia series then you know there's a happy end after all the heartache. This is definitely a dark romance, but as Dami grows and Cal adapts there's much more emphasis on the romance than the dark - it's hard not to emphasize with both men despite their flaws, and I know the payoff in the third and final story will be well worth the wait (and agony).
Don't even think about not reading this series in order. Both books 1 and 2 end on cliffhangers, and now like every other reader I am eagerly awaiting book 3. It's a dark read, and I struggle with some elements, which is down to my personal feelings on violence and some characters definitely not getting what they deserve. Dami is frustrating because he is always judging Cal badly, and doesn't seem (at least at first) able to see what he might have done wrong to cause Cal's actions. But you can tell that when they start working together, they will be a force to be reckoned with, similar to Luca and Finch D'Amato. The tension in the later part of the book is almost unbearable. And the ending! I was absolutely gutted about one part, as I was really rooting for a certain character to get his own story and it seems he may be no more. That's a tragedy. It'll be a tough wait for book 3. I received an ARC
ARC review The second book in the Clemenza Family triologi. This one picked up where the first one ended so they must be read in order to understand the storyline. Be aware that this book end on a cliffhanger. Dami and Cal is dancing around each other. Their relationship is still based on hate, revange and punishment. Through out the read their feelings towards each other changes, but they wont admit to it. Even if they come to an understanding, the outside world is not on their side and danger is approaching fast. Omg. I'm not sure I can survive waiting for the last book. The suspense is literally killing me. This series is so well written, the plot is ekstreamly good and the characters are fenomenal. I was immersed in the story from page one and couldn't put it away. An excellent triologi that I highly recommend to put your eyes on.
This is the second entry in the series: gentle note to start at the beginning if you haven't already, and go in aware that this one also ends on a cliffhanger. The title is a reliable indicator of what's inside: intense, chemistry-forward, and emotionally demanding, with very little in the way of soft feeling to offset the pressure. Captivity, obsession, toxicity, danger, and intrigue are all features of the series: there in book one and dialed up several notches here. This is not a gentle read, but if you're here for the intensity, it delivers in abundance, and it’s hard to look away from these characters and their connection, in all the best and worst ways. 4.5 stars.
*I voluntarily reviewed a complimentary copy of this book.
The Beast Who Broke Me, Clemenza Family, Book 2, by Leighton Greene, follows directly on the heels of the first book, The Beast Who Bought Me. The interwoven politics and power struggles are well played out, and the ending is a wonderful cliff-hanger (yes, I know that’s an oxymoron). Damiano and Caligula make discoveries about themselves that impact everything. I’m excited for the third and final piece of this saga to see how all the threads tie together and resolve. I always look forward to another Leighton Greene book. DISCLAIMER: I voluntarily reviewed an Advance Reader Copy of this book.
OMG, I loved this book. The first book definitely ended on a cliffhanger. This book also is a bit open-ended but in a much more “angsty” way. Damiano our mafia enforcer and Caligula our mafia prince (different families of course) continue the push and pull of their relationship while the world is falling apart around them. So many people with so many agenda’s. I love the way this author writes the emotions, passion and strength of these men. I will say there were some tears in this book and I usually don’t read many open-ended books but when I do they are by very talented authors that make you come back for more. This is one of those books. I highly recommend this book. Enjoy!
Wow! I loved this second instalment of this fabulous trilogy. It continues the story of Calenza and Dimitri and it was equally as good as the first book. They’re still fighting - each other, plus the other families, as they continue the struggle to best each other and survive. The emotion, intrigue, suspense, and surprising moments of gentleness that are creeping in as their relationship evolves, culminates in a cliffhanger that is going to haunt me until I get the third and last book. I haven’t read a good dark romance in ages and this is a great one. It just keeps getting better and better and I can’t recommend it highly enough.
Dannnnng. The Beast Who Broke Me—the house could have been picked up and carried off and I would not have noticed for how enraptured I was in this second of a trilogy. Typically, I don’t read books with a cliffhanger, but I accidentally read the first one so I am hooked. Now this second one has me jonesing for the next hit. Again, a whole book full of anger and passion and mystery and suspense. I am addicted to Caligula and Damiano. My only regret is not waiting for the whole series to drop before I started. Now I’m going to be tortured because my people are in limbo.
In the second book the action continues. Cal ran away, Finch and Luca pick him up and turn him back over to Dami who still wants to kill him. Someone is still trying to kill off the last Clemenza. Cal keeps trying to play Dami who has a hair trigger even as they both can't stay away, need each other. Cal tries threatening Dami who is only so docile as he uses Cal roughly. It's a constant pull between the two, hating and wanting, but they must work together if they want to survive. It's a horrible cliffhanger and you have to wait for the third book. I hope it's soon.
This was an excellent read. The characters were further fleshed out and a few new characters were introduced. Tiberius Vicariously is a welcome and hysterical addition to the series. This has a good amount of heat and a steady balance of light and dark with high stakes angst. Ms. Greene is a talented author and develops characters that are relatable, flawed and over the top and pays great attention to supporting characters. The cliff hanger ending was better than the first book and I am holding my breath in anticipation of book 3. Hopefully Caligula does the same.
Thanks you for the book, here is my honest opinion: 5⭐️Well, book one was a compelling start, Dami and Cal definitely delivered the intensity. In book two, things get even more messy and twisted between these two. Caligula and Dami are electric together, it’s a razor’s edge with these two, who seem equally likely to off each other as they are to build a crazy criminal crime family life together. I like option two personally, the author has created an epic narrative here and I can’t wait to see how it ends for Caligula and Dami. Super fun!
Holy buckets! What an ending. The author wrecked me in the best way. These two men. Love them! Each are finding themselves and growing in the best way and I cannot wait for the next book to find out how powerful they will be. But the enemies were knocking down the door, so hopefully they get the happy ending they deserve. Pins and needles for the next book!!!! I received an advanced copy for my honest opinion.
