I’m too much of a hater to enjoy groveling books, apparently. Make him crawl on his knees for four thousand years fr. Also, the line where he called out for Mara while being dragged off to jail, he was basically told to stop because she didn’t deserve to see this, and he was like "and I’m meant to endure it?" That should have been expanded on! Not enough time was given to the humiliation and pain he endured. Where is your rage??? where's the repercussion? He forgave Lucian in one chapter, omg 🙄🙄🙄
The story had so much potential. Did I enjoy it? Yeah. But it felt a bit lackluster for me, every hurdle jumped smoothly order, the plot wrapped up too neatly. As others have mentioned, Lucian taking Elias as a way to humiliate Elias' father could have been expanded on, and Lucian's betrayal was too easily forgiven.
Maybe my idea of a dark romance is warped, but this wasn't dark in my opinion. Where's the grit? The hard fought victories? The enemies to lover tension? This might as well have been an instant love story.
If you like fluffy instant love romance and mafia stories, this might be for you. If you're looking for a dark, gritty, enemies to lovers slow burn, I'd give this a pass.
But there was another thing that irked me. So you’re taking the youngest son for revenge. But you’re not using him as a sex slave or anything. In the beginning he can’t leave the house but this was remedied later. So essentials he is just there. You don’t plan on doing something to him or with him. He is there for reasons. What kind of vengeance is that? Oh no he is living somewhere else now, wishes for nothing and is protected. The horror.
What a great read. Mafia books are some of my favorite ones to read lately. Holly Myers' books are also becoming a favorite as well.
This one was a lot of fun to read; once I started, I couldn't put it down. I loved how Lucian was possessive of Riley. From the beginning, you could see they were going to be great together. If you love reading books about revenge, possessive characters, and dark romance, then you should do yourself a favor and read this one; it will not disappoint you.
This had some good moments but could’ve been better. It lacked editing and was written in an odd way with a lot of repetition. Let’s just say if you took a shot every time the word “ledger” appeared, you’d probably get alcohol poisoning.
