When the bride runs, someone else must take her place.
Zara Williams escaped her family’s criminal empire years ago. She refuses to be traded like property—until her cousin flees her arranged marriage and a war looms over Philadelphia.
Now Zara is the substitute bride. Married off to John Castellano, a silver-haired Don who doesn’t repeat himself and doesn’t tolerate defiance, she expects a cold arrangement and a loveless bed. What she doesn’t expect is him. Controlled. Ruthless. Absolute in every decision—except when it comes to her. The marriage was meant to be temporary. Political. Clean. Instead, it becomes something neither of them planned. Because once Zara steps into his world, John realizes she was never a replacement. She was the only woman he would have chosen.
And in a city ruled by loyalty and blood, a Don does not surrender what is his.

Short and sweet … Romance and Chemistry was good between John and Zara! Sophie thought she could just come back and take Zara’s position as wife; Zara was not a placeholder and I am glad that Sophie got told off twice! Glad the Uncle Marcus wised up @ the end. HEA 😍🥰
I actually ended up liking this one more than I expected.
I really liked the push and pull between the couple. Their lack of communication actually felt realistic for two people who did not know each other and were thrown into a situation like this. It did not feel forced, it felt natural.
I also really felt for the FMC. Her hurt feelings felt real and I found myself siding with her a lot throughout the story. When the MMC finally realizes how badly he has been acting, I liked that he actually went to her and tried to make it right.
The only thing I wish was done a little more was the drama with the sister. I love when there is that outside conflict and you get to see that person really get put in their place, and I feel like that could have been highlighted more.
Overall, I liked the relationship, the emotional moments, and the way the couple worked through things. It ended up being a solid read for me.
