The Heart's Most Wanted

Rate this book
US Marshal Morgan Sawyer rides into the treacherous Rocky Mountains on a mission to find fellow Marshal Tex, who vanished while they were escorting a dangerous prisoner. But ranchwoman Roz Beck insists on riding beside him, despite Morgan's protests. Joined by newlyweds Owen and Delaney, and Roz's young son, they push deep into the wilderness.

Widowed Roz was wounded in love when her now-deceased husband abandoned her, leaving her alone to raise a child. While her heart longs for love, for her son's sake, she'll settle for a man she trusts like Morgan, her childhood friend. When a shadowy figure begins prowling the search party's camp at night, the group realizes that something more than the wilderness poses a threat to their quest of bringing Tex to safety. Will the looming danger strengthen Morgan and Roz's growing feelings and faith in each other, or will it be their breaking point?

With witty banter, a rugged hero, and a spirited heroine, Mary Connealy presents another action-packed installment in her Rocky Mountain Marshals series.

Firstly, thank you to the author and publisher for my eARC. This is my honest review. I didn't realize this wasn't a standalone so it took me a while to "catch up" in the world, but by 30% in and I think it all made sense. The story was one of grit, loyalty and patience as they found what was lost and answers to the mystery of "the ghost" along the way. Entertaining and rich with historical western atmosphere.
Faith: light
Romance: kisses only, but a little innuendo to a young married couple being "busy through the night" as it were.
CW: peril, thematic elements of the wild west, gunshots, injuries, kidnapping, assult including of females.

US Marshal Tex Mitchel and Stella Duncan find themselves in a dangerous situation as Tex is badly injured in the mountainous terrain. There were times that I found myself wincing in pain with what Tex had to endure. I was really hoping that help would arrive in a timely manner for them as they have to battle the elements and injuries.

US Marshal Morgan Sawyer, Roz Sutcliff are trying to locate Tex and Stella. They have the added responsibility of other people blog along with them, including Roz’s young son. I enjoyed the wilderness aspect, but I particularly found myself caught up in the part where there is a stalker known as the Ghost who is a bit crazed and is tracking Morgan and Roz. There are some tense moments that bring suspense to the story.

This is the second book in the Rocky Mountain Marshals, and there will be a third book that is a continuation of the story. I recommend you read the first book in order to have a clear picture of what has happened previously.

I received a copy of the book from Just Read Tours with no obligation to write a positive review. All opinions expressed are my own.

“Knowing you love me makes any decision easier. It was what my heart most wanted.”

This friends to more story set in the wilderness of Colorado had me hooked from the first page. It picks up right where book one ended. It’s full of danger, adventure, and suspense. It has gentle faith elements, witty banter, and just enough action to keep you engaged.

Morgan is determined, protective, and smart. I loved seeing him lead the search for Tex. I enjoyed his tracking and wilderness survival skills. I loved his friendship with Owen and Tex, some of my favorite parts are when they are together talking. I loved his gentle guidance of Jesse and his tender care of Roz. Roz is bold, independent, and wilderness savvy. I loved her determination to stick with Morgan no matter what. I loved that she wasn’t afraid to share what she was thinking, even if it took a bit for her to get it out. I loved her relationship with her son and seeing him blossom around Morgan and the others. Morgan and Roz had a little bit of a journey to their happily ever after and I’m hoping we get to see more of that journey in the next book.
I loved seeing glimpses of Owen and Delaney (from book 1) as they traveled with Morgan and Roz. And the POV of Tex and Stella’s survival was amazing. I cannot wait for their story next.

A few more quotes:
“When I first saw you in your meadow, you might’ve been happy to see me, Roz, but seeing you was like finding I still have a place in this world.”

“Get some rest, Warrior Woman. You’ve got to stand guard in a couple of hours.”

“I ran right toward a loaded gun to save you—all I could think about was to get to you before it was too late.”

If you are looking for a rugged frontier love story I would highly recommend checking out Thr Hearts Most Wanted. It has been a while since I read a book by Mary Connealy but when the opportunity to join her launch team came up I knew that this would be a great experience. This book was filled with excitement and adventure. I will say that I enjoyed Marshall Sawyer and Roz's developing relationship because based on the backgrounds that these two came from it seemed only fitting that they were hesitant when it came to taking tje next step. Overall it was a very good story if you are someone who enjoys frontier romances!

Picking up right where the previous book left off, this book follows Morgan, Owen, and Delany through the treacherous Rocky Mountains on their hunt for their missing friend.

US Marshal Morgan Sawyer is on a mission to find out what happened to Marshal Tex who went missing while they were escorting a prisoner. His mission reunites him with his childhood friend Roz, who is now widowed with a young son. Roz is looking for an escape, decides that taking a chance on Morgan, a man she trusts is better than a slowly dying future in a small rural town.

An action packed read, with great characters, it takes up the next chapter of the story began in the previous book. Definitely, important to read this series in order as it builds on a lot of stuff that happened in the last book. I liked the Morgan takes young Jesse under his wing, and the rekindling of friendship between Roz and Morgan.

An engaging and entertaining read, with great dialogue, and deep friendships, plenty of action, faith and Western suspense. Great interaction and faith. I liked that we continue to follow Owen and Delany from the previous book. Wonderful addition to the series, I can't wait to read about Tex and Stella next!

I received a complimentary copy of this book. Opinions expressed in this review are completely my own.

The Heart's Most Wanted
This mysterious second book in Mary Connealy's Rocky Mountain Marshals series is full of treacherous surroundings, menacing threats and strong heroes and heroines. It starts up right where the first book left off with the group searching for Tex who never returned with the runaway prisoner he went after. We see further development of key characters Morgan and Roz as their relationship grows and their personalities bloom. There are glimpses of relationships developing between others as well. This Christian romance has elements of faith as characters pray for guidance and each other. It keeps you on the edge of your seat while you watch the plot unfold. My favorite quote: "When I first saw you in your meadow, you might've been happy to see me, Roz, but seeing you was like finding I still had a place in this world." Mary Connelly has written another intriguing story of mystery and romance set in the majestic Rocky Mountains where danger and love seem to lurk around every turn.

After missing for 2 - 3 weeks, they finally were set up to search for U.S. Marshal Tex and his prisoner. The dangers are real in the beautifully described Rocky Mountains. What will they find when their search ends?

The search is fruitful and the group settles on Roz and Jesse’s ranch. The friendship they had as children grows into love, bringing Morgan and Roz to the realization that they no longer wanted to be apart. Weddings have a way of bringing more people to join their crew and then the stalker returns. This time he is more brazen than before and creates major concerns for all. With winter coming, the need to survive outweighs the search for this illusive Ghost. Will spring bring a resolution to this dilemma?
Looking forward to the next installment in the Rocky Mountain Marshals series. A early copy was received through Bethany House Publishers and NetGalley. These thoughts are my own and were in no way solicited.

I completely enjoyed this book. I loved that there were a couple of surprises along the way, and those ended up being some of my favorite elements of the story. Tex and Stella’s journey had me dialed in and Morgan and Roz’s storyline was a lot of fun. It also sets up book 3 rather nicely and I’m excited to read it when it releases in a few months. Mary’s stories never disappoint!

I liked how once Roz met up with Morgan again she was determined to keep him whether he wanted her or not.
I loved the western mountain setting and all the action.
Good friends make all the difference and both Morgan and Roz have friends for life.
The Ghost was an interesting character and I am eager to see him get his just dessert.
Thanks Mary Connealy, NetGalley, and Bethany House for the early copies.

Search and rescue, intrigue, danger. This book has it all. The marshals won't give up and neither will an enigmatic stalker. Woven through the tale, terrain and weather combine to form an additional main character. Readers journey with the group while admiring or fearing the mountains. The ending satisfies yet establishes the desire for the finale.

I received a complimentary copy of the book without obligation. This review is my opinion.

We start out taking where we left off in the last book, searching the mountains for 2 people in the party, stuck in the wilderness. The story keeps you interested with mystery but it leaves you hanging for resolve in the next book. It’s labeled Christian and it’s clean romance with closed door but it doesn’t reference God at all as far as I can remember. I miss that in the character development.
It was a good book overall. It kept my attention and I got into the mystery and wanted to keep reading to find out what was going to happen.
I was given the book as an early reader copy but all opinions are my own.

The Heart's Most Wanted by Mary Connealy

The Heart's Most Wanted: A Historical Frontier Western Romance with US Marshals and Adventure set in the Rocky Mountains (Rocky Mountain Marshals)
Book 2 of 3: Rocky Mountain Marshals

When a mysterious threat follows their every step, can two wounded hearts find refuge and love?

With outlaws, a rugged hero, and a spirited heroine, Mary Connealy presents another action-packed Old West historical romance. For fans of second chance romance, frontier journeys, and hijinks in the Colorado wilderness.
A story of mystery and romance in the Rocky Mountains.
My favorite quote is
As she spoke the words of Psalm 23, she wondered what
other verses she knew by heart. She was sorely afraid she’d
have plenty of time to recite them all. The holy words seemed
to drift upward as if in prayer, lifting her spirits while also
giving her something to do besides fret over doing nothing
or doing something stupid.
I recommend this book.
The Heart's Most Wanted by Mary Connealy
is a 4-star book.

This friends to more romance will pull you in from the very first page. It is definitely not intended as a standalone, but rather as a part of a series where the action picks up where the last book ended. However, it is told from different POV. I loved the wilderness of the unsettled Colorado mountains. I could picture the beauty and wildness that attracted the first settlers to the area. It took a special kind of people, those who were full of courage and grit. Attributes that are evident in Ms. Connealy's characters.

The action picks up right away, with a well-paced plot that will have readers eagerly turning their pages, hoping for a happy ending. I was very intrigued by the stranger that haunted our group made up partially of Marshalls. Was it an outlaw, a crazed mountain man, or something more sinister?

I was also drawn to Roz, wondering at her unusual upbringing. One that involved surviving on what one had at hand, found or hunted. She had little knowledge of a more civilized life. Yet her sense of justice, her loyalty, her courage and independence was admirable. The dialogue is mostly that of uneducated people, yet full of wit and sass, as our characters face some fairly dangerous situations. This humor is a trademark characteristic of Ms. Connealy's writing.

While some elements of the plot were resolved, some were left hanging, to be resolved in the final book in the series. Can't wait!

I voluntarily reviewed a complimentary copy of this book which I received from the author/publisher through Netgalley. I was not required to write a review. All opinions expressed are my own.

The only reason I gave this book 4.5 stars was I was terribly confused with who’s story I was actually reading due to what I would call character’s overload in the first few chapters (even after reading the first book in the series).
However after getting into the book I was able to see that this is about US Marshal Morgan Sawyer and Roz Beck love story! The two have known each other since childhood but were separated when Morgan left home. It seems that they haven’t lost feelings for each other’s but they both are having a hard time getting their feelings together!
This series picks up from where the first book left off with Marshals having to search for their missing friend Marshal Tex who got separated from the group during an escape attempt by the outlaws they were trying to bring into justice.
Roz has been widow and now has a son but is determined not to lose Morgan a second time so she an her son have joined the search party to find Tex and Stella (sister to the outlaws). In their journey to find Tex and Stella they face the perils of the wilderness of the Rockies, a mysterious stranger, and possibility of the outlaws family.
Can their relationship survive these dangers or will they drive each other away?
You will need to read to find out what happens!!
This book follows all of Mary’s former stories of adventures, humor, family, faith and romance so it’s well worth the read!

I received an ARC from NetGalley and Bethany House Publisher, however the review is completely my own personal experience and was not forced to leave a review.

What a fun adventure! I flew through this second book in Mary Connealy’s Rocky Mountain Marshals series. Continuing the events from Ambush of the Heart, we find out what happens as the search party sets out to find Tex and Stella, only to have everything complicated by a “ghost” tracking them for an unknown purpose. This added some great suspense. I loved getting to know Morgan and Roz better. I loved seeing their childhood friendship rekindled and growing into love. Roz is so sheltered from being so isolated though, and that creates some challenges and humor! Jesse was so cute, turning into Morgan’s shadow.

I really like these ensemble trilogies Connealy writes- you really get to know everyone and the dynamics between the characters are gold. I loved the relationships the women have with each other and the relationships the men have, too.

I loved the mystery of the “ghost” and how it’s going to come to resolution in the third book without it being a crazy cliffhanger at the end of this one. (Literally or figuratively… here’s looking at you, Tex!) Pro tip- if you can’t stand waiting if parts aren’t wrapped up, you should stockpile Connealy’s books as they come out, and then binge them once the series is complete. This series should be read in order for the full experience.

Again, if you love books with adventure, humor, high stakes, and compelling characters, jump on in to the Rocky Mountain Marshals series and join in the fun!

#gifted Bethany House and NetGalley

I accidentally did not realize this is the 2nd book of a series, so it was a little disorienting in the beginning. I repeatedly wondered, am I supposed to know who this is already? But I continued and went with it, realized my mistake lol, and carried on anyway figuring if I enjoy it enough I would go back and read the first book.

Well, I will indeed be returning for the first book, all the while aching for the next book, because, yes, I loved it!

High stakes drama right out the gate. Kind of a large cast of characters that we follow. Frequent switching POVs kept it feeling fast and emotionally intense. The characters are distinct and great. Each of their issues are compelling, their backstories had me rooting for their futures, their baggage had me wanting to throw the book across the room (in a good way LOL).

It was reminiscent of Janette Oke's Love series, but without religion, with much higher stakes, and lots of adventure. I don't actually read this genre often enough to have a better comparison....It's clean, super sweet romance, with both men and women learning how to be a team in marriage and no longer lone wolves fending for themselves.

ENDS ON A CLIFFHANGER!!!! I'm so excited to see what happens next!!!! There's a bad guy who needs to be caught when winter thaws!!!

US Marshal Morgan Sawyer is bound and determined to not leave this mountainous woods until he has found his good friend and fellow Marshal Tex. He is one of the best trackers and knows he will find him, however with two women and a child in tow, his tracking is really being slowed down. Owen he can't fault for wanting to bring his wife with him and Roz, well she was part of his childhood and was actually the one to teach him a lot about tracking and nature. It seems they are not alone out in these woods and Morgan gets an eerie feeling about them being tacked themselves. Can Tex survive long enough for them to get to him and what is next for Morgan and Roz? As they talk about times from their childhood and what has happened in their lives since, they realize maybe they both had similar things happen to them. Morgan and Roz are both very used to being alone and doing things in their own way and time, could they possible have what Owen and Delaney have even after everything each one has been through? I really enjoyed this novel set by the Rockies. Thank you to the author and publisher for the complementary book. This review is of my own opinion and accord.

I've been a long-time fan of Connealy, though I haven't read many of her books in the last few years. I was excited to read her newest, though, as it's been so long.

As she often does, Connealy brings in past characters and lets their lives entwine, while also introducing new romances that will definitely be featured in future books. I've always loved this about her books--you get to spend extra time with the characters you've already fallen in love with! Her descriptions really help you visualize the rough and wild wilderness of the west, which are as important to the stories as the characters.

The pacing of this book was a little slow for me, but I've definitely noticed that stylistic change in her more recent books (as well as in other writers' novels). It's not a particular favorite of mine, but if enjoy taking your time to really get into the characters' minds and pasts, this style is perfect for you. If you're a fan of Connealy's recent releases, I think you'll enjoy this book.

Rated PG.

As a fan of Mary Connealy's work, I jumped at the chance to be a part of her launch team for this book. I have enjoyed following these Marshalls who are gruff and loyal and don’t know much about women. Their paths vary yet intertwine at the same time. Roz is a delight along with her very tame longhorns. Again Connealy makes me laugh with how she writes the men and women trying to figure themselves out. And in true form Morgan and Roz do come to an understanding of one another by the end of the story. The wilderness settings and the rough conditions add to the story as a character itself in some ways. Looking forward to the next one in this series.

I received an advance copy, but all viewpoints are my own.

I received a free review copy of this book from [Publisher/NetGalley]. I was not required to write a positive review. All opinions are my own and I am disclosing this per FTC 16 CFR Part 255.

This book brought it all together for me. I read the first one in a week’s time and was sort of disappointed with the flow but overall liked the characters and plot.

This one brought things together where I began to fall in love with the story. Mary Connealy has done it yet again. I’ve loved all her books so far and I think this one might becoming my favorite. I desperately want to know what happens with Tex and Stella.

This is definitely such a great cozy, fall read and needs to be added to your TBR list!!

Since I already read the first book in this series, Ambush of the Heart, I was eager to catch up with the characters and go along as the marshals and others search in the Colorado wilderness for Tex and Stella, who got separated from the group. In typical Mary Connealy fashion, nothing is easy on this search, or for Tex and Stella. Primarily though, this book is centered on Marshal Morgan Sawyer and his reacquaintance with his childhood friend, Roz Beck. Roz is determined that she will stick with Morgan and he will not leave her again, as he did when he went to fight in the Civil War. There are some humorous moments along with the tense times and danger. I am looking forward to the third book that will wrap up the storyline. I enjoyed reading The Heart's Most Wanted.

Good read - fast paced. Book 2 has Owen and Delaney traveling with Morgan, Roz, and Jesse to find Tex and Stella. Once found, they head back to the fort. But who gave help to Tex, one of Delaney's mountain brothers. On the way love blooms, Morgan and Roz marry at the fort. Bowie travels back with them to catch up with Delaney and see his folks. They all go back to Roz's land to find out who the "Ghost" is. The ghost is after Roz but they don't know this or who this careful sneaky person is or the why. They just know he is out there, as he was stalking them while they were looking for Tex and Stella. Who is he?

I loved this because I love all of Mary Connealy’s books, characters, and universe.

This was fun and easy to read in a couple of sittings. There was enough suspense to keep me on my toes, but it was still cozy and sweet.

I did feel like the pacing was a bit off. So much would happen in a couple of pages, and then we’d go chapters with pretty much nothing happening and lots of repetition.

Overall, it was fine [shrugs]. I’m more looking forward to the trilogy’s next book because I neeeeeed Tex and Stella’s story and to know who the Ghost is!

The next phase of the journey for the Marshalls and their group. This one finds Stella and Tex trying to survive his injuries and find their way back to civilization with Morgan and Owen and their group trying to track them down. Throw in The Ghost (someone stalking Morgan and his group) to make it interesting and some more of the Bridger family. Lots of action, some romance, mystery, and inspirational. I love the descriptions of the terrain, it makes me feel like I'm right there seeing everything. I can't wait for Stella and Tex's story in the next book.

If you love friends to more, second chance romance in the midst of historical danger and adventure this is the book you should be reading.

The story continues as Morgan and Roz along with her son travel with a fellow marshall Owen and his wife Delaney—from book one—to find their partner, Tex. On their quest they find there are unexpected dangers. Who is it that dogging their tracks?

This well written book builds a solid plot, interesting characters, and adventure into one unputdownable book. I recommend it.

Roz has spent most of her life alone. Her mother died when she was too little to really remember, her pa died not long after her son Jesse was born, and her wandering husband died soon after. After reuniting with her childhood crush, Morgan, in the previous book, she is determined to stay with him. But will he leave, too? I really like how this book seamlessly continued the story from the first book in the series. I can't wait for the third one to conclude this story set in the post-Civil War Colorado wilderness.

Mary Connealy always has an interesting assortment of characters in her books and this set in no different. It starts with couple of Marshels tracking one of their own encumbered by couple of women and a child who prove themselves to be handy to have around. The growth and change between the characters as they get to know each other and themselves better is is sometimes a little frustrating -you want to tell them to stop questioning and guessing and just talk to each other but you know for the most part we are no better when it comes to our own lives.

Family drama. Emotional twists. All the feels.

The Heart's Most Wanted by Mary Connealy is a captivating saga filled with adventure, suspense, and the kind of family dynamics that keep you turning pages to see what's next. The story takes you on an emotional journey, balancing heartfelt moments with plenty of action along the way.

Historical romance with engaging characters, unexpected turns, and a story that feels larger than life.
