Where the Bells Still Ring was a cute story that brought up lots of great memories of growing up in a small church. I got a kick out of the feisty character, Gwen, for her unorthodox entries in the church newsletter. Let’s just say that I wouldn’t want to get on her bad side:) Overall, a good entertaining read.

The first of a series of books about Gracetown, NC from debut adult author Clara Virginia White (a pseudonym for YA author Lauren Myracle). Many thanks to Lauren for the review copy!
With life in her small town changing, Bitsy (a woman in her 50's) leans on her faith to deal with an issue with her husband, counsel her two grown daughters, speak up for a young girl, and help save her beloved church from being absorbed into a megachurch 30 minutes away.
Although White sets this story within a Methodist church, this could happen within a house of worship of almost any faith. The cast of characters is well-fleshed out - the reader knows them and can see and empathize with them. I laughed, I cried, I worried, and I engaged in the joy that Bitsy felt. Told with plenty of Southern charm, this is for that reader that doesn't need all of the infidelity, action, and sensationalism often found in romance books today - rather, it is a quiet, old-fashioned story that they can slow down and settle into. (I finished this quick read in 2 sittings.) Perfect for a book club discussion, this quick read is sure to tug at the heartstrings.
Highly Recommended for high schoolers (to see their moms and grandmothers) and adults.

I thoroughly enjoyed reading this book. A clean story where the characters were real and how they worked through difficulties with faith and encouragement as a congregation was such a great example and challenge for me.

Where the Bells Still Ring captures the drama, exhaustion and joy of a small church. I enjoyed getting to know the church family and laughed and cried with them. My mom recommended this book to me and I can’t wait to talk to her and to share my favorite portions with her.
