Two Truths and a Lie: Twisted Asylum Games

Rate this book
Two truths and a lie is a dangerous game to play in an asylum full of deranged killers, especially when the price to pay for getting it wrong is death.

Winding up here was intentional, strategic. When I surrendered myself to the right set of authorities, I knew I would be welcomed with open arms into a nightmare that holds the most haunting of secrets. Graveborn Asylum is an establishment where the criminally insane are sent to live out their days in tortured silence, masking behind their promise of healing and reform.

But these old stone walls talk, and their victims scream louder than those undergoing electroshock therapy. I am listening, waiting for the moment the truths spill from their lips to uncover which of these ruthless maniacs in here killed my twin sister.

All I have left of her is a text message of our favorite game, and for the first time in our lives, I can’t figure out what she lied about. Can I uncover her secret before it’s too late?

Two truths and a

I am ready to die.

I’ve hunted in the asylum.

I might be in love with a deranged killer.

This was AMAZING!! Like just became my favorite book by T. R. Oldin.

This book had me captivated from the very first page and had me highlighting quotes all over the place. The plot, the characters, the flow, everything was absolutely perfection.

I desperately need this to become a special edition with a book box because there were just so many incredible and powerful and twisted moments that suck you in. Then she threw in some major plot twists and phew my mind was blown.

I love a good asylum thriller and this was everything you could hope for. She even brings in her trademark humor and banter throughout that just makes you fall in love with the main and side characters. I’m soooo happy this is a series because I am heavily invested!

Thank you for the opportunity to arc read this book!!

I’d give this 4.7 if I could….

From beginning to end, you’re in for it with this multi POV read. Two Truths and a Lie: Twisted Asylum Games by T.R. Oldin is perfectly called out as a dark romantic suspense and psychological thriller, heavily featuring gothic horror undertones, morally gray to black characters, and an absurdly unhinged obsessive romance trope. The biggest trigger aimed at mental health.

Mal kick starts this whirlwind of a journey with her story about her and her twin, Echo. Unfortunately for her, she looses her other half and that makes her a viciously dangerous force; one with a plan and the end game isn’t good for anyone. She willingly decides to enter the questionable asylum full of deranged killers that her sister “hunted” prior to her death to see if she can connect the dots to how she lost Echo. The game they played was simple- two truths and a lie. But when you play with other mentally disturbed; you’re bound to hear a lie or truth you aren’t prepared for.

The book is spicy, keeps you busy guessing about who did what while you learn the other characters and begin to form the bond with them. You may have some ideas, some theories but the more you read, you learn the truths and then it’s time for the slap in the face you weren’t expecting!

While the entire book is a fast-paced, addictive ride, it is the final chapters that truly seal the deal. Oldin sticks the landing with a sequence of brilliant, jaw-dropping twists that make your chest tighten and completely reframe the game. It is unhinged, meticulously plotted, and utterly satisfying. You won’t be able to set it down and will slurp up the last few chapters… that said, the very end chapter felt very rushed compared to the timeline of the entirely of it all with some characters not getting their attention I felt they deserved. That’s why it’s not a full 5 star but please, understand it’s basically a banger! Ultimately, this is a must-read for fans of gothic asylum horror and high-spice smutty dark romance.

Thank you to the author and publisher for providing an advanced copy in exchange for an honest review.

“‘There are many things worse than death. To leave this life is not a punishment; it's a blessing.’”

**I received a copy of this book as an ARC from the author in exchange for an honest review**

“They say you have to be a murderer and clinically insane to get a formal invitation, so I guess it’s a good thing that I’ve been a killer since I was a teenager. Now, all I have to do is convince a judge and jury that I’m insane. That can’t be too hard, considering I don’t mind getting my hands dirty. After all, aren’t all serial killer sociopaths a little mad?”

DAMN! I don’t even know if I really know what to say about this book without spilling all the beans! Lol. But it is definitely one of my new favorites and I’m super excited for the next ones! I definitely need to know more of the background story for Luca, Novac, and of course our resident arsonists Casen! Okay and maybe I’m a little curious about our head guard Luna!

“Four killers who needed someone to not look at them like they were crazy bonding over the fact that we are all a little crazy. Seems fitting.”

The spice was spicy, the trauma was ones, the tension was present but not overwhelming, and the twists were TWISTY!

“I thought an asylum for the criminally insane was supposed to be protecting the world from the people inside. I never thought as a patient I would need protection from the criminally insane walking free.”

I throughly enjoyed everything about this book and our main characters, Mal and Raze. and even some of the side characters. The banter between many of the characters and the overall humor present was perfection!

“Live. Laugh. Toaster Bath. Which is way better than live, laugh, love if you ask me. Who wants to end it all with love when you could go out and take a whole city block with you? Fucking vanilla ass people and their sayings that make them think life is supposed to be easy and comfortable.”

The way I would’ve DEVOURED this book in one sitting if I had more time and didn’t have to work and require sleep lol.

“‘It’s my emotional support knife. You of all people should know how important an emotional support knife is.’”

A brilliant, fast-paced read with everything I needed!

This book gave me exactly what I was looking for: an excellent story set in an asylum where strange and macabre things happen, two beautifully unhinged main characters with amazing chemistry, lovable side characters, a plot twist I never saw coming, incredibly hot scenes and lots of action!

The story kicks off when Mal’s twin sister is murdered right in front of her. Realizing this death might be connected to an asylum for serial killers, Mal finds a way to get herself admitted as a patient. Once inside, she crosses paths with the mysterious Raze, a psychiatrist with a dangerously dark side of his own.

The pacing is fast but perfectly constructed. The relationship between Mal and Raze is amazing, they share some amazing spicy moments and prove they are truly made for each other.

However, it’s impossible not to talk about the secondary characters, who will make you fall in love with them just as much as the main ones: Casen, an arsonist and killer (but only of those who truly deserve it) who delivers several comic moments. Never thought I would care about an arsonist, yet here we are... Luca, initially an enigma but as we start to understand what is happening to him, he awakens a fierce protective instinct in us. Novac, the voice of calm and order, constantly taking care of Luca and stepping up to help whenever needed. And Luna, a guard who actually sees the prisoners as more than just simple killers and genuinely cares for them.

Towards the end, I was completely blindsided by an unexpected plot twist that only made me love the story even more. The conclusion is highly satisfying and felt incredibly fitting for the chaotic journey we went through.

I was so happy to discover that this isn’t a standalone! Knowing we are getting two more books and a novella about the Graveborn Asylum characters makes me so excited. The ending makes it very clear who the protagonists of the next book will be and I absolutely cannot wait! 🖤

"Only for you. Your killer."

this was fast paced, creepy, unhinged and amazing!! a great spooky time of year read. Based in a creepy asylum for the criminally insane, our MCs are both morally grey basically black and completely unhinged. A deranged FMC serial killer on a revenge mission for her twin sister's killer and a psychotic psychiatrist MMC who immediately has his eyes on her.

Mal honestly had me laughing so much, she's funny on top of being insane. and at times I truly felt for her. The trauma and anxiety she had. I loved the relationship between Mal and Raze. Both equally insane and they love each other for the dark parts still. Truly a match made in hell. Their spicy scenes were SPICY🌶️
But honestly the way I adored our side characters!! Casen, offered so much comedy to the story despite where they were and what was going on. I mean who would of thought I would be loving an arsonist😂 Luca, we spent a while not really knowing what was going on with him, but as we learn more, I just wanted to hug and protect him with my life. and our girl Luna, the way she was one of the only guards who saw the inmates as people and genuinely did care for them instead of placing them in that box of simply just killers.

The way the plot twist toward the end had my jaw dropping to the floor!! 🤯 It gave the story something even better that I did NOT expect. The way this story wrapped up was honestly just a perfect ending for the roller coaster the characters and us as readers went on!

I am HIGHLY looking forward to the next book in this series because the way it ended leads us to who is will be about 👀 I can't wait for more Graveborn Asylum character stories and what other chaos we end up in.

Thank you SO much to the author for the opportunity to read this as an ARC, I had a blast reading this.

Let’s Play A Game Shall We?

* ɪ ᴍɪɢʜᴛ ʙᴇ ɪɴ ʟᴏᴠᴇ ᴡɪᴛʜ ᴀ ᴅᴇʀᴀɴɢᴇᴅ ᴋɪʟʟᴇʀ.

🏥 Mal and her sister Echo love to play a game. When Mal gets a final message she goes off to an asylum willingly, but she’s got a plan, and she’s out for revenge. But not everything goes to plan when she starts questioning her own insanity. Will the endless screaming get to her or will she uncover the truth, seek revenge and find the lie?.

“Kill me if you need to, Little Wraith. Just suck my cock first.”

🏥 Doctor Raze, the asylum’s psychiatrist, has had his eyes on Mal long before she was sent to the asylum. I mean who wouldn’t when she’s known to have bitten off someone’s ear? He’s a mystery in more ways than one, but he’ll have you giggling and saying doc just for the not so sweet punishments🤭

“Live. Laugh. Toaster Bath. Which is way better than live, laugh, love if you ask me.”

🏥 What can I say except HOOKED from the start! We’ve got blood, guts and all sorts of crazyyy. Mal and Raze together? Ugh 🤌🏽✨ but I also have to hand it to Casen! Because that man has a spot in my heart. I’d love to read about Casen and what happens next! because that ending? I’ma need book #2. That being said this book will give you the giggles. A mystery, spice, and add in a plot twist too. Definitely give this book ago if this sounds like it’s for you!

This was the suspenseful thriller filled with smut that I genuinely needed. The author absolutely delivered a twisty, gory, dark romance to die for. 😈🖤

Mal is chasing the story behind her sisters murder that leads her to an asylum. What better way of getting into said asylum than calling in favors to your friends in the underground and maybe possibly partaking in some gruesome murders to seal the deal. 🔪👀

On the first day she meets 3 men who quickly become her inner circle. Novak, Casen, and Luca. No, this not a reverse harem. No why choose here. Not when the broody psychiatrist has already called Mal his. His Little Wraith. Raze is anything but what you'd expect the psychiatrist to be though...

Touch her and ☠️
Knife and blood play 🔪🩸
Torture (but not to the fmc unless you count edging😅)
Asylum

Let me tell you the spice was SPICY and the banter between ALL of the characters was top freakin tier 🤌🏻 I had so many highlights in this one. I am already here for the next one because Casen deserves his time to shine ✨️🤞🏻

I received this book as ARC copy and I loved it!

But in longer words.

I don’t read blurb much just very quickly if at all, but I read the TW and tropes and I was like alright this looks good, and I love this author work.
Let me tell you this was sooooo GOOD!

At the beginning the story had Joker and Harley Quinn atmosphere, but reversed. But only with the whole doctor and asylum aspect of the story, but let me tell you it got me hooked. I don’t want to spoil something, but as the story progressed I expected something way darker in the ghost and craziness aspect, BUT what the author gave us was WAY BETTER!

Let me tell you the plot twist was the best thing i read this year! I didn’t expect that at all and I swear this book is worth your time.

About the characters, both of them were great, what I can’t not accept but somehow like is man hair bun, for me it just doesn’t work, but I get it and I know it from the start (based on the cover) but still, if I had to erase something it would be this. Just cut the hair please 🙏 I like long hair but do not put it into the bun 😂

It’s perfect story if you like grey characters, blood, little bit of craziness and amazing plot twist! If you enjoyed Joker and Harley Quinn you will like this at least I did.
Perfect story for autumn, reading under the blanket in dark.

And go read other stuff from the author!

Where do I even begin with this one? I absolutely freaking loved it! It had everything I crave in a dark romance, delivering everything I could want and then some.

Possessive MMC? You got it. Extra spicy scenes with a touch of cray cray? Done! A mercenary killer purposely committing herself to an asylum for the criminally insane in order to seek revenge on and kill the person responsible for her twin sister’s death? Yup, it has that too!

Between the characters, the story, and the steamy moments, I found myself locked in and completely focused on my Kindle, unable to tear myself away. Her writing captivated me and the pace of the book was fast and never faltered. This book consumed me and when I wasn’t reading it, I was thinking about it.

And I cannot forget the best part … the twist. It got me. Once it had me, I just had to sit there for a moment and think back on everything I had read until that point, take a breath and move on, because she got me good!

I whole heartedly believe that this book needs to be an immediate add to your tbr … you won’t regret it!

This was a very dark book but oh i really really enjoyed it. TW LIST should be read!

Mal is unhinged and somehow still holds some moral standards. It was obvious she could be someone's worse nightmare but she did go after people who deserved it. After her sister dies she gets herself put in the asylum. There are twist I didn't see coming but it was almost like I should have. I found the mystery and suspense to be well done. Add in some entertaining characters in the fellow patients you get a group who team up to unlock what is happening.

Raze is mysterious and dark. He is a doctor who works at the asylum. He is unhinged when it comes to Mal. He has stalker tendencies but it also wants the patients to be well.

The brutality and darkness from the evil people in this was horrific. There was a part of me wondering if there was a certain level of karma to find those others that fueled the darkness iykyk.

I enjoyed the spice, the romance, the dark humor, and mystery. If you enjoy a good balance of all of that I would say give this book a try.

ARC Review 📚

This was a bit different. I really liked it!
And there is no secret that I've been obsessed with asylums since I was like 10yo🤣 (Yes, I'm a disturbed human beeing)..
Aaaaand straight jackets being a k*nk for almost as long.. My fantasies need more of these kind of books🥵

And I do like the mystery and revenge side to the story with the little game of "two truths and a lie". (The title really do this book justice, right?😏)
Games and mystery with a side of 🩸 and 🌶? Sign me the f*ck up!!

It was a bit of a rollercoaster with twists and turns that makes you question your sanity. Well, I guess that's the point since it takes place inside an actual ASYLUM😅

Since most of us are demented here, I think you can handle this book. BUT! Your mental health matters so I would advice you to read the TWs of this one anyways ⚠️🖤

Spice: 2.5 🌶

Mal arrives at Graveborn Asylum ready for revenge.😈
After witnessing the death of her twin, Echo, she only has two clues. A game they played as children and a location. 🏚️ Will she be able to get her revenge, or does someone in the asylum have different plans? 👀

Two truths and a lie:
I am ready to die. 🪦
I’ve hunted in the asylum. 🔪
I might be in love with a deranged killer.❤️

Can you guess the lie? 🤔

T. R. Oldin is a ✨mastermind✨! This book had me in a chockhold the entire time, I couldn't put it down! The plot, the asylum, the characters, the spice, the TWISTS! It was all amazing. 👏🏻

Mal is a freaking badass! I love that while she lets Raze "protect" her, she is really the one to be scared of. Raze knows this too and respects her for it! He doesn't try to downplay her skill or her instincts, he would just truly rather die then see her hurt. The obsession is real! 🫦

Casen is my favorite! He is a hilarious, smartass 🔥pyro🔥 and I would love to see a spin-off. 🤞🏻

Honestly, there are so many characters T.R. Oldin created that would make great books...

Nova and Luca, the bromance I never knew I needed🖤.

Let's play our first Twisted Asylum game shall we?
1. This book was impossible to put down
2. The MMC is the perfect mix of obsessed and psychotic
3. Absolutely zero humour or banter

Set in a haunted asylum for the criminally insane, this murder mystery is action packed with twists that keep you constantly on your toes and revelations you will never see coming.

Raze and Mal are the perfect match made in hell. You would think as the psychiatrist and owner of the only key to her room, Raze would be in charge, but Mal is only in there because she chose to be and is absolutely able to hold her own amongst the evil surrounding them. And the chemistry between these two is hot!

I would check the triggers for this one, considering this is set at an asylum and our MCs have a penchant for violence and sometimes a lack of impulse control, there are a few graphic scenes.

I received an ARC from the author in exchange for an honest review

My first foray into a genre like this — a blend of psychological thriller, mental health and dark romance — and I really enjoyed it!

I liked our main characters and the dual POV throughout, and I was constantly on the edge of my seat trying to figure out whether Luna, the main guard, was someone we could actually trust or not. 👀

Just when I was convinced I had figured out what was coming next…
BAM. 💥

A plot twist I definitely did NOT see coming!

Overall, this was a really enjoyable read, and I’d definitely read more from this author. This was my first encounter with their work, but I liked it enough to want to see what they do next!

I went in expecting dark, creepy, Joker-and-Harley-esque chaos and somehow this book STILL managed to surprise me. The asylum setting, morally gray characters, blood, madness, and overall unsettling atmosphere had me hooked from the start but that PLOT TWIST?! I genuinely did NOT see it coming. Easily one of the most unexpected twists I’ve read this year. The characters were incredible, the tension was delicious, and the author took the story somewhere I absolutely wasn’t expecting and somehow made it WAY better than what I imagined. Perfect autumn read for questioning everyone’s sanity, including your own. If you love dark stories, morally gray characters, a little madness, and twists that completely blindside you, ADD THIS TO YOUR TBR.

I'm not crazy, I'm mentally spicy. There's a difference". One of those books where you think you know where the story is going and then bam it completely goes a 180 on you. This was wild, fun and torture filled (with a whole lot of kinky romance). I absolutely devoured Raze and Mal's story. All the characters are so complex and intriguing (I mean...it takes place in an asylum after all). You don't know who is truly good or bad and then when you finally find out..you don't see it coming. Plot twist after plot twist. If you love horror/thriller/dark romance def check this out

I loved this! She's a new to me author & this is Mal & Raze's story. She wants to get to the bottom of her sister's death & starts following clues & leads which lead to Graveborn Asylum. She gets herself admitted. But this place is full of secrets & psychopaths. Raze has known her for a lot longer than she knows & has quickly become obsessed with her. But things happen there that no one can explain. I loved the story & the spice! There were twists that I did not see coming; I can't wait to read more!

Holy shiiiiiit, that was fucked up!

Talk about a plot twist to end all plot twists! My brain is still in shock. 🫢

Dark romance with dark humour, set in an asylum, with a dark and twisted romance between a psychiatrist and his patient? Okay, that alone had me needing to read this. 👀
Add in all the little twists and turns and secrets? The lil murder mystery going on? The weird ass disappearances in the asylum? Chefs kiss. 🤌🏻

This was unhinged. This was twisted. This was suspenseful. This was SPICY. 🥵🌶️

Two Truths and a Lie is a wild story about Mal, who is trying to find out why her twin sister, Echo was killed. She gets herself sent to an asylum to figure out what's going on. She is immediately drawn to Raze, and makes a few other connections throughout her journey. I cannot say too much without giving away a major plot twist, but this was a completely unique story with a lot of superb characters that will keep you flying through the pages. The twist will shock you, but ultimately, you'll be left with a satisfying conclusion, after a very wild ride!

OMG.

This story comes with several different twists that had me audibly GASPING once revealed.

I love a strong af FMC and that's exactly Mal. The story involves her getting revenge and healing done trauma after her twin is killed.

And in steps Raze: the charismatic, obsessed psychiatrist helping to guide her way the only way he knows how; sex and violence.
