Every demon in the capital knows the Forked Tail restaurant. They serve delicious sinful food with the freshest of ingredients, away from prying human eyes. What they don't know is that the owner and chef Lana has higher ambitions than just serving the masses. She has set her sights on winning the popular Demon Chef competition and she'll do it with the help of her taste tester Demi, her ragtag crew, and her trusted recipe book.
Can Lana rise through the seven rounds of the competition and does she have what it take to battle against some of the most prestigious demon chefs in this realm? She'll have to risk it all to have a chance at winning and convince the judges to crown her as the Demon Chef. **** A Demon Chef's Recipe For Fried Chicken is the first book in the Forked Tail Restaurant series. It's a cozy urban fantasy series about a determined and ambitious demon chef, a sapphic romance, found family, and mouth-watering food.
Another fun series starter from Ariana Jade, A Demon Chef's Recipe for Fried Chicken pairs a wrath demon chef with a glutton demon foodie vlogger for a reality TV cooking contest. These two opposites meet at the chef's restaurant, The Forked Tail. Lana has all but given up on her dream to compete on Demon Chef when her partner leaves her—along with her business and her opportunity to compete as a team. Enter home cook and food vlogger Demi, with her unabashed enthusiasm and encouraging admiration, and things heat up—not only in the kitchen. I love their banter and their overall dynamic. They are both strong, likable characters. The fact that this is an urban fantasy about demons takes a backseat to the believable personalities, interactions, and exciting premise. Ariana Jade is a pro at doing big things with few words. Their novellas always feel well fleshed out and balanced. The food descriptions are delicious, the competition is intense, and the characters are relatable. I was stressing right along with them during the timed audition and eating up their sweet, intimate moments. This is book one in the Forked Tail series. It is not a standalone. It reads as a serial, and the next installment will carry on the competition and further develop the relationship. I am always thrilled to get my hands on new material from this author. I recommend it! #oppositesattract #glutton #wrath #demons #grumpysunshine #chef #influencer #foodie #realitytv #competition #cookingshow #serial #goldenretrieverblackcat I received a review copy from the author. This is my honest opinion.
As someone who loves cooking competition shows and is a massive foodie this book felt like it was made specifically for me. It has the perfect mix of cozy, chaotic, and fun while delivering a lighthearted sapphic romance that completely won me over.
Lana and Demi’s relationship develops so naturally throughout the story and their chemistry made the book incredibly enjoyable to read. I loved watching their connection grow.
The concept itself is so creative too. Using sins as cooking ingredients is such a unique idea and honestly, The Forked Tail sounds like the kind of restaurant I’d immediately want reservations for. The world building was fun without feeling overly complicated, and the entire story had this playful energy that made it really easy to fly through.
If you enjoy foodie books, cooking competition vibes, demons, and adorable sapphic romance with a supernatural twist, this is definitely worth checking out. I’m really excited to continue the series and see where the story goes next.
I received a free copy from the author and voluntarily reviewed it.
I already read the prequel to this series and was looking forward to reading book 1. I like this author's books and I enjoy reading about food, so I was pretty sure I would have a great time reading this one. And that turned out to be the case. This was such a fun read, I liked reading about the characters, how the demons actually feel demonic and all the food ofcourse.
This book is written from the point of view of Lana who own the Forked Tail Restaurant, one day a food vlogger called Demi stops by to eat at the restaurant and due to a series of events they end up spending more time together, cooking for each other and then entering a cooking competition together.
I really liked reading about both Lana and Demi and I felt they made for such a fun couple. The two are different enough and their romance has a bit of a grumpy-sunshine vibe that works so well. I like seeing Demi from Lana's point of view and there's something about her excited bubbly personality that is so fun to read about. Demi's love for food and discerning palate are great too. She's a glutton demon. Then there’s Lana who owns a restaurant and fits the image of a chef screaming at their staff, but she does actually run a good kitchen and appreciates her staff too. She has some anger management issues as she's a wrath demon. At first there's a lot of grump and anger she shows, but I liked seeing more of her and some of the softer parts that lie beneath that grumpy exterior that shows she actually cares, like her passion for cooking, how invested she is in her restaurant and how badly she wants to go on the demon cooking competition show.
When these two meet it's filled with fun banter, the combining of their different personalities and a lot of food ofcourse. It was so fun to see these two get to know each other and grow closer. Lana is very grumpy and wants nothing to do with the excited Demi at first, but slowly Demi breaks through her walls and they two grow closer. I really liked seeing these two get to know each other and look forward to seeing their romance develop in future books.
I liked reading about all the food in this book, from the way they cooked it and especially the why. I loved seeing the though processes behind the dishes and why they combined things or not and why things worked or didn't. It was so much fun. Then there was all the food descriptions as well, which were great too. I also liked the cooking show competition bit and seeing Lana and Demi cook together for the first time.
Lana and Demi are both demons and I like how the author wrote the demons and added some world building about it. They come from Hell and stay in the human world for a while where they harvest sin. The demons actually feel demonic and while some of their actions like eliciting sins so they can harvest it might feel wrong, for them it's just how their nature works and I thought part was written well. I also liked the way the demonic stuff worked into the cooking with how they use the sins to add to the cooking, almost like spices and how different types of sins taste different and even different types of the same sin taste different. I thought this was very interesting and added a fun paranormal aspect to the cooking.
To summarize: I had a great time reading this one. I liked reading about Lana and Demi, they were so fun together and I liked seeing them grow closer. Lana is a bit of a grump and doesn't want to have anything to do with the bubbly Demi at first, but the two grow closer and end up on a cooking show together. I really liked their banter and the blend of their two different personalities. There's also a lot of cooking and food in this book, which I loved. I liked reading about all the dishes they made and especially the thought processes behind why they cooked things a certain way or not. The cooking show was fun too. And I liked the way the demon element was done with the demons feeling actually demonic and different from humans, but it also feeling normal for them and just how they are. I liked how the sins could be used in cooking with different sins tasting different as well as different types of the same sin tasting different. This was such a fun read and I can't wait for the next book!
I read the original series so was thrown out somewhat by the changes in this new version especially Demi being a vlogger and so over the top sparkly. I soon settled into the book though and liked the changes made and that we can see what Lana is thinking as last time it was in Demi’s pov. The cooking portions of the book sounded authentic (I dunno, I don’t cook) and starting with an audition made it more life like. I’m looking forward to reading more of this series .
So good! This is the first book in the series, not including the prequel 'A Demon's Cocktail with Sambuca'. I love how the food is described, I can almost taste it! It makes me want to be able to taste sin in cooking. And having an element of the story as a cooking show is just so fun! I can't wait for the next one!
First book in the Forked Tail Restaurant series for those who want a crossover between hell's kitchen and top chef ... but with sapphic demons. Cute and enjoyable read.
A demon romance between a wrathling and a glutton who must work together to accomplish their cooking dreams.
The Forked Tail Restaurant is known for its skill of incorporating sin into its dishes. Lana is the proud owner of the establishment, but things have been hard ever since her first love and co-owner of the business bailed on her. One day, an ambitious food influencer by the name of Demi enters her establishment and changes Lana's life for the better. The two form a tenacious relationship as they begin to cook together in preparation for a reality cooking show, DemonChef.
I enjoyed the novelette prequel to this series, so I was curious to see what the main series entailed. I was a bit surprised to learn that this one involves a cooking show, but I'm definitely not complaining.
Lana and Demi were both introduced in the prequel novelette, so it was really easy to transition into their stories. Lana is super passionate about her restaurant and the food that she crafts, especially her wrath dishes. Demi is a food influencer, which I thought was really different as well as entertaining. Mixing these two together made for some comical interactions, and their chemistry was pretty fiery from the get-go.
This book mostly features Lana and Demi cooking for one another, which I thought was pretty sweet. The cooking competition isn't starting in earnest until book two, so this one read as the set-up for the main story. I liked getting to see Lana and Demi meet in real time; I feel it makes it easier to root for them as a team both romantically and on the show.
Overall, "A Demon Chef's Recipe for Fried Chicken" was a fun set-up for the "Forked Tail Restaurant" series. Lana and Demi are both fun characters, and I look forward to seeing their relationship develop in future installments of this series. I wasn't expecting the cooking show element of this one, but I'm totally here for it. I'm excited to read book two when it's available to read!
Chef Lana is proud of her food at the Forked Tail Restaurant, but she has ambitions beyond those of most demons. Her dream of appearing on the Demon Chef competition show was just within reach when she and her partner broke up. With that dream up in smoke, she has no patience for the perky food influencer that has dropped into her world. Demi, a gluttony demon, is enchanted with Lana’s cooking and persistent in getting her attention. Slowly working her way under Lana’s skin she offers to partner her in the competition. The pressure of an audition may not be the best time to see if they’re compatible in the kitchen, but what does Lana have to lose? After all she still has her restaurant. It’s the attraction she’s starting to feel towards Demi that’s more troubling.
The first book in Ariana Jade’s Forked Tail Restaurant series brings together a grumpy/sunshine pairing with a pinch of spice. Lana is a wrath demon that seasons her recipes with sins harvested from humans. She is talented and passionate about cooking, but has been burned in business and love. Demi, as a glutton demon, is probably as passionate about food as Lana. Her high energy and flirty personality make a nice contrast to Lana’s reticence. The relationship has a nice build up with Lana especially going from annoyance to attraction. The food descriptions are definitely mouthwatering. The audition sequence was well thought out and Demi was definitely an asset in her knowledge of filming as well as her more outgoing personality. I like how well they ended up working together throughout. Definitely off to a good start with another fun series.
A glutton and a wrathling walk into a cooking competition. That’s the premise of this book. While the story feels very much like the beginning of a larger journey, it gives readers a great chance to really get acquainted with the characters.
The premise may be simple, and the book focuses more on character development than on significantly advancing the overall plot, but I still found it incredibly enjoyable. Spending time getting to know the characters made the story feel engaging and fun, and it left me excited to pick up the second book to see where things go next.
I also absolutely loved the dynamic between the main characters. Their banter is fantastic and adds so much personality and humour to the story. Their interactions felt lively and natural, which made their relationship one of my favourite parts of the book.
Even though the characters are demons living in an alternate universe alongside humans, they felt surprisingly relatable. The author did a great job grounding the story in real emotions and interactions, which made the characters feel authentic and easy to connect with.
I received an ARC from the author in exchange for an honest review.
A Demon Chef’s Recipe for Fried Chicken is a fun novella! I loved both of the main characters Lana and Demi, they had a nice almost grumpy x sunshine kind of vibe that I really enjoyed. This is a short read but I feel like so much is packed into it. We get a decent amount of time to get to know the characters and I’ve grown fond of them rather quickly. I like the direction their friendship and relationship is going, both of them have nice banter and some nice jokey puns but there were also some soft more heart to heart moments that I adored. Aside from the characters themselves I’m really enjoying this world, I like the demon characters, and the whole idea of cooking with sin is so unique and intriguing to read about. Some of my favorite bits of this book have to be the cooking moments, the descriptions of the food sound utterly delicious and I can only imagine how the taste of sin tastes but everything sounds so delicious! I’m very excited to read the other novels in this series! Thank you to the author for my complimentary review copy.
A Demon Chef’s Recipe for Fried Chicken by Ariana Jade/Arizona Tape is the first in an upcoming cozy urban fantasy series. The author does cozy very well and this book is a good example. There are no villains, just uncaring exes. The main character, Lana, secretly wants to enter a cooking contest, but can’t due to the departure of an uncaring ex, who was supposed to be her partner for the show. Demi barrels into Lana’s life with her unbridled optimism and joie de vivre. She convinces Lana to enter the show with Demi as her second in cooking. Of course they survive the initial audition (this is the first in a series). I liked the way the author combined their extensive knowledge of cooking with some personal growth and development of Lana. Demi remains a little unidimensional, all sweetness and light, which seems contradictory for a demon. As with the author’s other books, this one is entertaining and pleasurable, especially in trying times. I received an advance copy of the book, and I am leaving the review voluntarily.
I love this series! Lana and Demi's slow burn romance is entangled with all of the drama of a cooking competition! High strung exec chef of the Forked Tail and wrath demon, Lana, is annoyed when Demi, a budding influencer, comes to review her restaurant. Despite this, she's intrigued by Demi's knowledge and passion for food, and, being a demon of gluttony, Demi is a very good audience to cook for. After Demi pitches in to help with meal service, Lana has no choice but to cook her dinner to pay her back, right? While there, Demi notices the letter inviting Lana to audition for Demon Chef, the most prestigious cooking competition for demons, but Lana tells her she will not be participating because of a falling out with her former partner. Demi offers to pitch in, but Lana is still not convinced until a disastrous interaction with her former restaurant (and romantic) partner she had planned to participate with. Will Lana and Demi be able to cook a dish sufficient to impress the Demon Chef judges? You'll have to read to find out!

4 stars. Have food nearby while reading this, it will make you hungry. Everything sounds so delicious. Anyway, I really enjoyed this. So light and fluffy and fun. Lana and Demi are polar opposites. Lana rude and grumpy, Demi is the epitome of sunshine and I loved their chemistry. Demi says whatever is on her mind and the way she would always shock Lana with her bluntness got some laughs out of me. I also liked the whole plot of them auditioning together to be partners on a cooking competition show. I can’t wait for book three because this series is so entertaining.

This was a lot of fun! I was a little surprised that the prequel seems to happen after this book, but other than introducing the idea of using sins as spices in food, the prequel isn't necessary for this book.
I loved reading about a cooking competition, in part because my daughter amd I are in the middle of a Hell's Kitchen marathon. This adds a fun twist to your average competition, having the contestants and judges all be actual demons. Lana, the head chef, is a wrath demon who tries to keep her cool, and Demi is a glutton and budding food vlogger who is just excited about everything food. Seeing her worm her way in to Lana's kitchen was so much fun, and I'm excited to see more of this series.
Now this book was a truly unique read. I don’t entirely know what I was expecting when starting this book but that storyline was not it and I am so glad. This book had me giggling and swooning. The banter between Lana and Demi was perfection. And the sass Demi gives had me laughing so hard. These two characters were so relatable and likable despite being demons. I didn’t know I could connect with non-real being so much. These two kept the story moving along and had me invested in both them and the drive towards being on Demon Chef. I was stressed and annoyed and anxious and excited right alongside the characters. And that ending has me impatiently sitting here twiddling my thumbs until the next book comes out. I have to know what happens next!
A book full of a different kind of spice to most on the market at the moment. On one side, you have a grumpy, short tempered chef who is one bad day away from burning everything, and on the other, you have a bubbly influencer, who actually knows what she's talking about, that is at the start of her foodie journey and is determined to bring her out of her shell.
When Demi finds that Lana was accepted to Demonchef she will do whatever she can to ensure they both get to fulfill a dream.
A journey of flirting, teasing, spice, learning to trust again, and other kinds of spice awaits
I really enjoyed this one and blew through reading it. I love food stories, and I'll confess that I ended up going out to order chicken parmesan after reading the mouth-watering fried chicken descriptions in this book. The main characters have great chemistry, and even though this might be considered grumpy-sunshine, the characters weren't so extreme that I found them obnoxious. I know that this is headed towards romance, and I always always appreciate sapphic rep, but I think this story would also be a good one if it was a out "just" connecting with a new friend.
One thing that I love about Ariana Jade's writing is that they tend to be cozy, easy reads. This one is no different. I never would have thought of demons who just want to cook, but it works so well here. I'm dying to learn more about Lana and Demi and their relationship, and I already want to throw things at Lana's ex, and we only meet her briefly! I'm already excited for the sequel.
I received a free copy of this book via the author and am voluntarily leaving a review.
A Demon Chef’s Recipe For Fried Chicken is a cheeky culinary slow-slow-burn romance. I had a fun time reading Lana and Dani’s origin story and can’t wait to see how they fare in the competition and how it affects their burgeoning romance. Bring on the next plate!
“Thank you, Vampari Press, for providing this book for review consideration. All opinions are my own.”
A story about food and cooking competitions written by a self-confessed foodie lover. A cozy paranormal sapphic romance where demons are chefs and the 7 sins are important and essential ingredients in demonic cuisine (which is apparently very similar to human cuisine). A light, easy and quick read during break times or commuting.
Wow! I really enjoyed this book! I love cooking shows, and this story was such fun to read! The characters are a blast - Lana's passion for cooking, mixed with Demi's energetic personality were fabulous. I found the use of sins as seasoning really fun as well. I'm looking forward to the next book!
This was a great start to a new series. I think anybody who is a fan of cooking shows will enjoy this book. It is really fast-paced and Demi is great. The whole concept of demon cooking with the deadly sins is a little interesting, and I'm really enjoying how that aspect works. I enjoyed this book and look forward to the next one.
What is it that Chef Lana sees in Demi. She lets her get away with all kind of things. AH!! Right in the middle of the story. A lot of things going on. Feelings coming out. Old loves being left behind, were they belong. New and exciting things starting to come through. We will see what happens next.
A great first read in this new series. I loved the character of Demi, she’s so fun, and together with Lana makes for such a fun relationship. I can’t wait to find out what happens next in the series, both personally and on DemonChef!
3.5 stars A light, breezy read about a stressed demon chef in the human world who auditions for a cooking show with a bubbly foodie influencer. It's a quick read and the cooking audition is very believable.
I love how easy it is to escape with Arizona Tape/Ariana Jade's book series and this one is no different. It's a fun start to another series with a grumpy sunshine pairing that you can'thelp falling in love with. Looking forward to more in the series and overall from the author.
The description of the cooking process is so detailed it makes me hungry. Very nice read especially given the fact it's a short story. As opposed to it's prequel, this addition to the storyline was purely spicy in terms of flavour and cooking. Very enjoyable
An absolutely delicious paranormal romcom, the characters shine in this foodie heaven. The idea of a cooking competition for demonic chefs absolutely rocks.
