"Key Change" by Cara Dion is part of the interconnected Hotel Bellwether series (though it can be read individually!). It is an age gap, forced proximity whirlwind vacation romance between a silver fox single dad and his nanny/jill of all trades (bartender/model/social media guru). I enjoyed this novella! I think the main characters, Derek and Joelle/Jo, have terrific chemistry, which is often difficult to do in a short novel, but Dion does it well! Even from their very first interaction, his grumpy disposition was caring towards her, which made me totally intrigued. After meeting one night in the bar where she works while the band he manages plays there, they have a one-night stand. The attraction and spark between them is immense. The next morning, situations occur, and Derek finds himself in need of a nanny while he goes on tour with the band. Jo offers up her services, going on tour with them to watch his adorable seven-year-old daughter, Annie. Despite this being an insta-lust/insta-love-type of story, I didn't mind it at all because I think Jo and Derek have a good enough connection that it doesn't matter that they've only known each other for a few days. Derek and Jo decide that they won't "do anything" while she's watching Annie, so they don't confuse her, but it's hard for them to stay away from one another. The will-they-won't-they pull between them is delicious. The spice is top-tier! Also, Jo's connection with Annie is realistic and excellently crafted. She doesn't treat her like a little kid; she talks to her like she's older than she is, which I appreciated! I loved Annie's passion for ghosts; she was such a great little kid character! This is a quick, steamy, fun read, and I can't wait for the next Hotel Bellwether novella!

I read an ARC of this short novel from the author, and I believe she just sold me her back catalogue. (Assuming it comes off of KU because I do not subscribe, and there is no way to get a single Kindle copy without it.) This is for you if you are a fan of hot single-dad-nanny romances. (If Fran Fine were a former model from New Hampshire rather than an Avon Lady from Queens and Mr. Sheffield were in the music rather than the Broadway biz, this could be Nanny fanfic.) Unlike Fran Fine's nanny fantasy, this is very, very steamy. I need to say that the first chapter was very badly written; it felt like it was written by a different, and far worse, writer than the remainder. If this had not been an ARC, I am not sure I would have continued, but I am so glad I did.
Derek is part-owner of a record label, who made his bones as road manager for a boy band. That band is now staging a comeback, and the label is deciding whether to gamble on an album and tour. Derek takes it upon himself to manage a test tour to determine whether he can/should encourage his label to sink money into the band. The band members, though like family to him, come with a lot of bad-boy rocker problems, making them a bad bet. One night after a gig, Derek hooks up with Jo, who is bartending at a bar they played. He immediately knows she is different than a typical ONS. There is an ease with them, and the sex is off the charts. Nonetheless, he is preparing to get on a plane for a fan convention the next morning, so he cannot pursue more. Then he gets a call from his ex-wife, who tells him that her mother is critically ill, and she needs him to take care of their daughter so she can focus on her mother. And so, as the theme song said of Fran, Jo had style she had flair, she was there and that is how she became the (temporary) nanny.
Jo is a great character, and feels familiar to me as the mother of a kid the same age, and someone who works with grad students who are in their late 20s and trying to figure out who they are. Derek is also pretty great as the 40-ish guy who takes care of everyone but himself. Sometimes a short romance delivers exactly what you need, and this one absolutely did.
I had a good time with this story from beginning to end. What surprised me was how much emotion was packed into such a short story. Jo and Derek had fantastic chemistry from the start, and I was invested in them almost immediately.
What really made this book work for me was the balance between the romance and the emotional growth. Jo’s journey of finding where she belonged felt relatable, while Derek’s dedication to his daughter made him incredibly easy to root for. Annie added so much warmth, humour, and charm to the story, and I genuinely loved every scene she was part of. Together, they created a dynamic that felt sweet, comforting, and easy to become attached to.
The romance was playful, steamy, and full of tension, with plenty of banter and heartfelt moments mixed in. I loved watching Jo slowly find her place in Derek and Annie’s lives, and seeing their connection deepen made the story even more satisfying.
By the end, I was completely invested in all of them and didn’t want to leave their world behind.
This was such a satisfying little escape.

In terms of how much I enjoyed this story - 2.5-ish stars, BUT because big part of my rating is “the writing and all that”, I’m going with 3 stars.
Most of the issues I had with this book are totally my preferences and as I signed up for this ARC blindly (as part of a series) and didn’t check the blurb or the tropes, it would be stupid to go below 3 stars because I don’t like age gap or insta “love” while there was nothing bad when it comes to the writing itself.
Some of my frustrations you can see in reading updates but again: these were totally my preferences things.
I’m not a fan of 3rd person narration in general - sometimes it bothers me, sometimes I almost don’t notice it, in this book it was somewhere in the middle. It didn’t make me hate the book, but it also didn’t work much towards me liking it more than “it’s just fine”.
It was too big of an age gap (the term “silver fox” or “daddy fox” is used 21 times over the 200 pages 💀 - I know for some people it will be 5 stars material but for me it’s a big no), extreme insta “love” (I’m using the “” because was it love or lust?) and too much spice focused to my liking. With that said, I think this book was exactly what it was supposed to be. The writing was good, characters are nicely written, the pacing was okay (a bit too hallmarky to my liking at the end but I think that was the idea).
There were a lot of secondary characters. They didn’t affect enjoyment of the main storyline in negative way but you can clearly sense there either already are or will be books with the other characters as main ones.
It’s single dad x nanny and she also becomes the band social media manager and it all happens just for a couple days. The was supposed to be around the clock nanny but they happen to have the nights to themselves after all. At times the kiddo’s actions/insights/things she said were not exactly fitting her age but also not not fitting.
While it wasn’t a complete struggle for me to read it, I don’t think Cara’s books are for me.
I do recommend you check for yourself, because there isn’t anything wrong with the writing style or anything like that, it’s totally a case of just me not vibing with this author.

I could not put this down! I love a good age gap and this one delivered. The spice is delicious plus he calls her “little menace” 🥵
After a hot night (and morning) together, Jo becomes the last minute nanny for Derek’s daughter on a business trip to California. They strive to keep the relationship professional for Annie’s sake, but you can cut the sexual tension with a knife. The hands-off rule doesn’t last for long, rules are meant to be broken after all 😉
All of Jo’s friends were moving on from the single bar scene and she wasn’t sure where she fit in anymore, but I loved how she found the perfect fit in the band and Annie and Derek.
Derek has always followed the rules, especially when it comes to protecting his daughter. Seeing how much he valued his daughter and put her needs first was swoon-worthy.
As a novella there were a few things that were skipped over a little, I definitely would have enjoyed a full length novel, but it hit all the high notes!

Cara Dion books never fail to make me fall head over heels!
I've been anxiously awaiting Jo's book since her introduction. I knew she would be the perfect sunshine to someone's grumpy, and Key Change more than delivered! Everything from the banter to the spice made for electric chemistry between Jo and Derek.
The nanny trope, when done well, is one of my absolute favorites. And Dion nailed it with this one. I wasn't just rooting for the romance; I was enjoying the shenanigans Jo got up to with Derek's young daughter Annie. Their scenes together pull at the heart strings and add a playfulness to the novella I really enjoyed.
While this is part of a series of interconnected standalones written by other authors, Dion also did a great job of introducing characters that will probably pop up in her other books. Overall, the story was enjoyable and spicy, which is par for the course. But it was also a great set up for her further books. Looking forward to reading onward!

Will the short three days fling they agreed on change to something more?
It was unexpected and steamy.I don't ususally go for age gap romance,but this one surprised me in a good way.I think it was the fun banter between Jo and Derek that feel light and hot,and I didn't expected to be it so steamy.Yet author executed the emotional part and the spicy one's really nicely that I didn't feel overhelmed with it.Can't actually wait for Kat story,the secondary characters were interesting,and this first book for me by this author was great.
If you looking for steamy-Dad and Nanny romance I would recommend this one.

This was a great short story!
It starts out just a little abruptly but you get hooked quickly. The sparks between Derek the older single dad and Jo (the spunky nanny) are immediate. How can you not fall in love with energetic and intuitive little Annie? All the side characters came around them to make the story feel both very complete and also like there is much to continue in each of their own stories to come. This was just overall a great book and I highly recommend you give it a read!

Overall I enjoyed the book, and the overall themes. I think the only thing I had a hard time with is the MMC just being okay with his 1 night stand being his nanny.

One of the novel's greatest strengths is the relationship between Jo and Derek. Their chemistry feels natural from the very beginning, built on playful banter, mutual attraction, and a growing emotional connection that develops organically throughout the story. Derek embodies everything readers tend to love about the single-dad trope; protective, devoted, and willing to put his daughter first; while Jo's confidence, independence, and warmth make her an easy character to root for. It is the story of Jo. and Derek. Jo is a bartender/model/nanny in Rhode Island and Derek is the manager of a boy band who played a Jo’s bar.

Admittedly, I don’t normally read romances involving a younger nanny but this book was a really fun spicy novella. It was a fast read, easily devoured in one to two sittings. Although this was a stand-alone book I look forward to reading the rest of the books in the series.

I absolutely loved it! This second book of the Hotel Bellwether series is way better than book 1. It is a completely brilliant, heart-melting contemporary romance that you will want to download onto your Kindle immediately.

Key Change brings us right back to the gorgeous, sun-soaked luxury of the Hotel Bellwether, and it completely raises the stakes for the entire series. While these books are standalones and you can read whichever of the 5 books you want first—and even don't read one if you don't feel like it—this one is a "don't skip it" kind of book! The story perfectly balances sweet family dynamics with an intense, undeniable romantic tension that builds beautifully. Cara Dion delivers a masterclass in pacing, communication, and pure emotional payoff within a high-end resort setting.
The Good
The nanny single dad trope is masterfully executed! The ex is nice and not meddlesome, which is such a refreshing change for the genre, and all the gang know about them, adding a wonderful layer of community support - even if our mmc/fmc think they’re keeping it a secret to everyone (as if!). To make it even more perfect... he falls first and harder! Is there anything else we can ask for?
I absolutely loved Derek, such a strong MMC in this story. He handles his responsibilities and his feelings with so much depth. And also Jo—it's so good to have a FMC who knows what she wants. Their chemistry is electric, their mutual respect is beautiful, and their relationship dynamics are absolute perfection.
The Not So Good
Absolutely nothing! It corrected every single pacing issue from the first installment - granted, its by a different author - and delivered a flawless, emotionally satisfying, and heartwarming story from start to finish. A total masterpiece for the series!

Derek is a gruff, reserved, and dominant successful entrepreneur, but also a loving, protective single father. I think their pet names—“Little Menace” and “Daddy Fox”—say it all. I loved the flirty banter and the sizzling chemistry between the two of them.

Key Change by Cara Dion was everything I love in a romance and then some. From the very first chapter, I was completely hooked by the chemistry between Jo and Derek, and I found myself smiling, laughing, and swooning my way through their story.
Jo was such a refreshing heroine. She is confident, hardworking, witty, and refuses to let life's challenges keep her down. I loved her sense of humor and the way she constantly pushed Derek out of his comfort zone. Derek was the perfect grumpy silver fox hero. Beneath his controlled exterior was a man carrying the weight of responsibility, and watching Jo slowly break down those walls was incredibly satisfying.
One of my favorite parts of this book was the relationship between Jo and Derek's daughter. Their interactions added so much warmth and heart to the story and made the emotional moments hit even harder. The single dad element was beautifully done and showed a softer side of Derek that made him impossible not to love.
The California coastal resort setting felt like the perfect backdrop for this romance. It added a vacation feel that made it easy to escape into the story and never want to leave. The banter between Jo and Derek was fantastic, and their chemistry practically leapt off the page. Every scene between them had me rooting for them to find their happily ever after.

Absolutely love this book, it's so refreshing and the spice is SCORCHING 🔥 This book contains explicit, on page spice so if that's not your thing, it's probably not for you but if your into spice, and all things nice then buckle up! It gets pretty steamy! The Bratty x Dom is next level 🔥
I love Jo's confidence about her life, it is a little piece that she's carved out for herself and it might not be all glitz and glamour but it's hers and hers alone which is what matters.
Derek is a brooding, silver fox and my god, full of spice to even out the grumpiness. I love how the relationship was portrayed between him and his ex-wife, it wasn't the cliche I was expecting but a great example of co-parenting and putting your child first.
Honerable mention for Annie! Absolutely love her enthusiasm and the endless energy that all seven year olds seem to posses! She's so very sweet and smart for her age as well. I too, love chicken nuggets! 🍗

I flew through this novella in one sitting. I'm always a sucker for a well-done age-gap romance, and this one definitely worked for me. The chemistry between Jo and Derek was there from the very beginning, and the nickname "little menace" had me smiling every single time.
After a memorable one-night stand, Jo unexpectedly finds herself working as Derek's daughter's nanny during a business trip. They both try to keep things professional, but the tension between them is impossible to ignore. Watching them struggle with their growing feelings made it hard to put the book down.
What I loved most was how Jo's journey wasn't just about the romance. While her friends were settling into different stages of life, she was trying to figure out where she belonged, and I enjoyed seeing her find that sense of family and connection with Derek, Annie, and the band.
Derek was also easy to root for. He's devoted to his daughter and always puts her first, which made him incredibly swoon-worthy. Seeing that protective and caring side of him added a lot to his character.

Derek and Joelle are soulmates they were meant to be and love doesn’t know about time, I loved how they felt in love despite all the obstacles.
For Derek some of those obstacles was his fear of hurting and disappointing his daughter Annie and the guilt of not being the father she deserved it, also the need of making sure everyone took him serious while he accomplished his goals at work.
For Joelle was her inability to see her worth, her insecurities of not feeling enough to be with someone like Derek.
Both of them complete each other, both of them are the missing piece in each other life. They fulfill each other and bring happiness into their lives.
One of the things that I loved so much about this book was the relationship between Annie and Joelle, they became best friends and Derek felt in love a little every day every time he saw Joelle with Annie.
Derek brought Joelle back to life, I loved how he made her believe in herself, he always believed in her and trusted her with his daughter. He knew that she could achieve everything she put her mind to and Joelle brought so much joy in Derek’s life.

Key Change was my first introduction to Cara Dion’s writing and it’s definitely got me feeling intrigued to read more. This whirlwind romance unfolds VERY quickly, however it didn’t feel totally unreasonable because we get some good character development building up right from the start. I appreciate reading about characters who can banter with each other while still showing depth. Did I have a little eye roll moment when there was a communication issue which caused some distance? Sure. Did this in any way stop me from wanting to see them get back in sync with each other? Not at all! The spicy scenes matched well with the character’s personalities and made sense within the plot so they never felt gratuitous or over-the-top to me. This book also sets the stage for future romantic connections between some of the secondary characters and I found myself actively trying to analyze their decisions and figure out their stories as well. Needless to say, I will definitely be checking out the next book in this series! I received a free copy of this book to review and I’m quite happy to say that I really enjoyed it. I’d recommend it as a light-hearted read which opens the door for future secondary-characters-becoming-main-character romances and (I suspect) the ability to continue hearing more about Jo and Derek’s relationship as well.

Key Change by Cara Dion is the second book in the interconnected Hotel Bellwether series, but it is not something you need to read in order. It is a one-night-stand-turned-nanny, forced proximity, age gap, single dad, grumpy/sunshine, vacation romance novella—and it was such a quick, cute read.
Derek is a record company partner trying to get his “boy band” back on tour for a comeback, and he needs someone to watch his daughter. Jo is a bartender, former model, and former nanny who has a one-night stand with him after a gig at a hometown bar. Their chemistry was amazing, and their grumpy/sunshine dynamic worked so well together.
Derek’s daughter, Annie, was definitely one of my favorite side characters. She and Jo connected instantly, which deepened the connection between Jo and Derek in such a sweet way. Even though Derek is around forty, used to taking care of everyone while neglecting himself, and Jo is in her mid-twenties and still figuring out who she is and what she wants, their relationship still felt natural and realistic.
My favorite part was the funny, witty banter between the different characters. If you want a steamy, spicy, fun, and quick read, then this is for you.

Their chemistry was immediate, and I enjoyed watching their relationship develop despite all the reasons they probably shouldn’t get involved.
The age gap, forced proximity, and vacation romance elements blended together really well, creating a story that was both sweet and spicy. Even though this is a novella, I never felt rushed through their relationship.
I also enjoyed revisiting the interconnected world of the Hotel Bellwether series. While this story can be enjoyed on its own, it was fun seeing another piece of the larger series come together.
If you’re looking for a quick romance featuring a silver fox single dad, a nanny heroine, forced proximity, and vacation vibes, Key Change is definitely worth adding to your list.

Key Change
Cara Dion has converted me. Even though this is more on the novella side in length, it hooked me right away. The Coyote Ugle vibe of bar-top dancing had me smiling right from the beginning.
I love a good age-gap romance and this one ticked all of the boxes. He is her silver fox and she is his little menace. After an unforgetable night together, Derek ends up hiring Jo to be the nanny for his seven year old daughter. Three days in a world class resort should be a breeze, except for the sexual tension between the pair which they can not do anything about because or their new working relationship. Obviously, that doesn't stop them and the spice that follows is just perfect.
Edging and praise kinks are front and centre so if you're not a fan of those, maybe skim these scenes. The tension between them is so well written that you can taste their frustrations. All of the interactions between Jo and Annie, Derek's daughter, are so much fun. And the ending, so freakin good. I would follow this pair into a longer book but having said that, this shorter novella didn't feel rushed at all. 4.5 stars for me.

I have never read anything by Cara Dion before, OMG this was fantastic; this is book two in The Hotel Bellwether series. Joelle (Jo) Baker is the best damn bartender, model, and nanny around; and she knows it!! To bad she can't pay her rent! While bartending and dancing on the bar in her short skirt for better tips (reminiscent of Cyotee Ugly), she notices the guy at the end of the bar; Derek Owens, whom Jo nicknamed the silver fox. She keeps teasing him, and she takes him home for an unforgettable night of the best chemistry ever. Derek finds out he needs a nanny for his seven year old daughter Annie. Derek hires Jo, for three days at a luxury resort on the California coast; for 4,000. (were can I sign up). Derek is part owner of the boy band Midnight Storm, and needs to launch their comeback and lackluster tour. Can Jo even help more by the photo's she is taking; becoming their social media manager (for another $4'000)? Is this a conflict of interest; by working for Derek, and having a personal relationship with him? Love the plot, great setting, and strong intense characters. I look forward to reading more from Ms. Cara Dion!!!

This was the first book that I have read from part of the Hotel Bellwether series and it was quite entertaining. FMC and MMC meet, have a one night stand and that should be it, but it turns out that the MMC needs a nanny for this daughter and FMC jumps on the chance.
This story read rather quickly but so did its timeline and for me it was not ideal. The attachments to the characters especially the daughter to the FMC was over a 3 day period. Insta love/lust in a story is fine but the MMC specifically mentions that with all of his relationships he needs to take things slow because of his daughter and this story is exactly not that. The daughter shipped the couple right away. While in a way it seems cute, it didn't feel believable or like something that could last past one more chapter.
I did enjoy how the book/series revolves around the Hotel Bellwether and I would like to read the others in the series following this.
Recommend to anyone who likes the Nanny and the Single Dad romance, one bed/ close proximity or the with the band trope.

GIRL!! I LITERALLY COULDN’T PUT THIS DOWN! This is your next summer best read! I am so excited about the entire Hotel Bellwether series, and after now finishing both Cara’s and Roxie’s parts I cannot wait until the next installment!!
But let’s talk about Key Change! The leads Jo and Derek, their chemistry, holy hot molten lava Batman. As Paris Hilton would say, “That’s Hot”! Normally, I’m not one for large age gaps, but wow, this one seemed to work.
Jo is a fun, free spirit who has a lot of decisions to be made about her future. And Derek, a very serious single father who seems like he needs to control everything.
After a meeting at a bar with a old school boy band and some flirty banter Jo and Derek begin a hot and secret romance (only they think they are secret)
Once again sexy hijinks are had at the Hotel Bellwether, along with some more “ghost-busting” (see book 1)
