I let her clean up my blood for seven years — then I bled her heart dry with one lie.
Jade was my voice when I had none, my anchor when I wanted to drown. Then the hit came. Knee shredded. Career hanging. And I did the unforgivable — I told her I was done. Pushed her out. Watched the only woman who ever saw me walk away like I was nothing.
Now I’m back on the ice, rebuilt, hungrier than ever. She thinks she’s free. She’s wrong.
I’m not asking for forgiveness. I’m taking it. On my knees if I have to. In front of cameras. In her bed. Wherever she hides. Because Jade Williams doesn’t get to leave me. Not when she’s the only heartbeat I’ve ever heard clearly.
She quit being my fixer. Now she’s my forever.
Read on for seven years of tortured pining, brutal injury grovel, public claiming in the press room, dominant bedroom obsession, and an enforcer who finally stops fighting everyone except the woman he can’t live without. HEA guaranteed!
Solid 3.75⭐a hockey romance with actual hockey in it, so that's a plus. This well written and had great bones, so to say. But what started off strong didn't end that way to me. This book fell victim to moving TOO fast to tie the story up and get to the HEA. It's something I noticed about a lot of these books featured in Kindle Unlimited with the over stylized covers, I don't know if they have to keep it between 200 - 250 pages but it feels like they are rushing to get to the end.
In this book's case I felt that Jade truly had feelings for Nolan but the reader wasn't given time to buy into Nolan's feelings for her. It seemed like he went from a professional friendship bond to having intimate feelings for her and it was hard for me to buy as a reader. Nolan not realizing his feelings until she walked away from him professionally made it seem like it was just more codependency not love. And don't get me started on a professional athlete sabotaging his physical therapy at the end, him pushing too much was believable but that other part was a hard sell. Being an athlete is these guys identity, I would have believe it more if he'd tried to get back to playing too soon. These were the main reasons I couldn't give this a four, their relationship (mainly the emotional part) needed more time on page.
The story itself plot wise was really good so I would not discourage anyone from reading. I usually read things from this author sight unseen. Just because the quality is typically very exceptional. This was an extreme exception to that rule and it made me double check i wasnt confusing authors the writing was so off brand. I'm not really sure what happened but it was beyond repetitive to the point it could have been about 60-75% shorter. There were places where it felt like the same paragraph was copied and pasted throughout the book and just reworded. There was zero flushing out of either character. It felt like this was the 2nd book in a series and I must have missed the 1st where I would have got to know them prior to reading this one. Im not sure if that was intentional but it makes it hard to buy into this being a love story because we know nothing about the characters outside of their codependent work relationship. If there is a rewrite I will absolutely go for another round because it is so much to work with to make it a 5 star read
Seriously, I kept seeing this book on my Kindle homepage, but I just scrolled past it. Then something told me to stop and check it out. The cover art was cool, but the synopsis really grabbed me.
My first thought? Why did I wait so long to read this? This story was amazing. Nolan and Jade's relationship was kind of professional and personal until that line just completely disappeared. That's where, for me, the story really gets going, because Nolan made some choices he'd totally regret later.
I loved that Jade stood her ground and did what was best for her career and her heart. The drama and hitting rock bottom were huge for Nolan. Getting Jade back was his top priority. Their reunion was not easy. But when the heart wants what it wants, nothing will stand in its way. And wow! The intimate scenes were spicy and super steamy! Jade and Nolan's happily ever after ending was totally worth reading.
Jade carried a long burning torch for Nolan for years, and so did Nolan, expect he wanted to sow his wild oats. It wasn't until he shredded his knee that he realized that Jade Williams was not just his publicist, she was his best friend who was also by his side. But then he realised too that she deserved someone better than him. His pushing her away did more to hurt his feelings. He could not bare being apart from Jade. They Finally got their act together for their HEA
The best friend it's treated like a convenient doormat until he dies the unforgivable and she throws the deuces. It doesn't take long for him - and everyone - to realize how lost he is without her. Thankfully she stands her ground and doesn't run back to solve his problems as soon as he comes crawling back. The ending was well written for these two.
Nolan is a hockey player that likes to fight until he gets hurt on the ice. His future is uncertain. Jade is his friend and publicist but he starts cutting her out of his life thinking his career is over so she resigns! This makes him think about his life and why he treated her as if she didn't matter!
There's a solid book in here somewhere, it just needed a round or two of editing. There are times when it seems the characters are having the same conversation several times over and where it seems like the story is leading towards a decisive moment/action, and nothing happens, and they start having the same conversation again. It got a bit frustrating to read. But solid setup and premise.
Friends are loyal to a point. Someone who you, has seen your ugly and still is there for you, that's different. It was good for the hit an impasse . Nolan needed to learn to stand and trust the truth. Jade needed to not be convenient. I felt like she caved too fast. I was looking for a real conversation. In the end, it worked out.
It wasn't a bad book, had some great parts. But I feel like certain things could have been avoided if communication was top priority in their business relationship. Which in turn affected the personal relationship, not only as best friends but potential lovers as well.
Another great hockey story with Jade bring Nolan publish for 7 years and loving him without him knowing how she feels The story centers around their relationship and how it evolves to them finding they love each other The journey makes this story worth reading
