Rate this book
Hannah Muller has always been content with her simple Amish life in Unity, Maine, working beside her mother and sister, Beth Anne, in their family bakery.

Until Marvin Yoder comes into her life.

When the charming, handsome young Amish man arrives to help his uncle fix up his house, he awakens feelings Hannah has never experienced before. Against the warnings of her sister and lifelong best friend, Toby, Hannah lets herself fall for Marvin.

Toby has loved Hannah quietly for years, but fear of losing her friendship keeps him silent.

Beth Anne sees something dark and evil behind Marvin's mask of charm and urges Hannah to stay away.

Rumors spread through Unity about Marvin's reckless and inappropriate behavior with young women in Lancaster. Marvin’s uncle and friends insist the rumors are false, and Hannah chooses to believe them, ignoring her sister’s warnings.

Her decision to get close to Marvin changes her life forever.

When Hannah discovers she is carrying Marvin's child, the man she thought she knew becomes violent and terrifying, catapulting her into a world of danger and anguish.

In a close-knit Amish community where reputation means everything, Hannah finds herself afraid to speak, unsure who will believe her.

Now she must decide whether to stay silent or risk everything to protect her unborn child.

Doing the right thing may mean risking Marvin’s anger and the safety of those she loves most, especially Toby.
But who will believe her when Marvin is so skilled at deception?

Because sometimes evil doesn’t look like a dangerous predator.
Sometimes it arrives with a smile.

Trigger This book addresses domestic violence and abortion in a non-graphic, faith-based context.

Hannah Miller is happy living with her parents and sister in their bakery. She wants a boyfriend and then Marvin Yoder comes to town. He’s charming and unlike any man she knows. But he also comes with a terrible reputation! Hannah ignores the rumors and ignores her older friend Toby, who has a crush on her, to date Marvin.
This book shows us how easily we can be fooled by sweet words and good looks. Even in the Amish community, there are cads. This book deals with a sensitive topic, but in a delicate way. I’m glad I read it!

Amish Scarlet Letter

Wow what an amazing story this has you right on the edge of your seat. At times you feel so happy, then sad and yes angry. So many women go thur what Hannah and Besty went thur,
its very sad and you could almost feel all of their pain. Ashley Emma is a wonderful author.
I recommend these two books.

AMISH SCARLET LETTER by Ashley Emma is the second book in The Amish Classics series. It does not follow the normal pattern of an Amish story but is edgy with danger, violence, police intervention and evil intentions throughout.

This is Hannah’s story. While her best friend Toby has loved her from afar she’s attracted to bad boy Marvin who travels from Lancaster to help his uncle remodel his home before selling it. He’s Amish but a bad reputation has followed him to Maine and while some believe the rumors, most do not. After he and Hannah are courting, he takes liberties but doesn’t want to take responsibility for his actions and becomes threatening and violent and threatens to harm others or their livelihoods to keep her and others in line. This seems to be the way he operates and as his anger escalates, who will he hurt next?

There are multiple stories being told and they are woven together. There is an attention to detail and many prayers, church services, their beliefs and church activities are sprinkled throughout. There is also gossip, disbelief, anger, fear, physical aggression and abuse, family and friends, lots of baking and a death. But is it accidental? There is eventually a happily ever after on several fronts and closure with the epilogue.

I think this was a daring, gritty story of things not usually talked about among the Amish. Sometimes exposing sin, even your own, is necessary to protect the community. Though this is a clean book, it deals with topics that aren't and the consequences some people are required to pay. It's not even safe to be a bystander.
