A novel that reads like an anime from start to finish!

To start off with, let me explain that I am an anime fan, but not too much of a fan, I like to stick to my genres and usually enjoy mystery related anime, the kind that gets you thinking about a problem and how it will be solved. Just like in books. Think Apothecary Diaries, Bungo Stray Dogs and Moriarty the Patriot - those would be in my favourites category. Why? Because they're not fighting focused -the premise is the mystery, the problem solving. I know that this is spiraling from the concept of a book review, but let me draw the line that connects the two: the structure, the storyline and writing style, and images all make reading this feel like watching a season or arc of one of those anime.
Firstly, let's look at the mystery element. The whole story is a mystery, which unravels itself fluently as the story progresses, like a good anime. And although we get clues throughout the story, the symbolism of those clues becomes significant as the mystery unravels itself out. We don't really get much into the inner thoughts of the characters until we get to the point where all the explanations come into play.

Secondly, I'll consider the anime relation element. Yes, with the cover and images, ultimately the first thing that comes to mind with that style is anime, and even more so that the story is an isekai theme, which is a very common theme for anime and manga. Plus, add in some of the character quirks, magic system and just those little scenes that leave you chuckling a little. If you're asking why I'm comparing it to an anime and not a live action crime or detective show, it would be because the writing style and whole premise of the story really makes it feel more anime-esque, so to speak.

Third, let's look at the content. We great a traditional isekai opening, followed by a very interesting and engaging mystery. It only contains a few bits of mild language, and is a clean read. No romance, no gory fighting scenes - pure mystery.

One critique I will make is that although the story is mystery based, the exact premise of the isekai aspect seems separate from the main story, and sometimes feels like you're looking at two different plots, not just one.

I read this all in one go and it’s an incredible story! Really compelling prose that makes you want to keep reading and not put it down. The grammar is flawless; it’s very easy to read through, and chapters are a good length.

The style is engaging. Though I don’t usually read novels from this genre, I was immediately drawn in by the opening chapters. I also liked the later chapters that experimented in switching perspectives to give you more insight into the other characters. The genre is new to me but the character being “born” in a different world was done well, and made me interested to learn more about how it works.

I immediately was intrigued by the main character. Ailn and Kylian have a great chemistry and I enjoyed seeing how they play off each other. I loved Sophie, and the knights and all background characters really added to the fantasy environment.

The plot was engrossing. There was just enough build up for the future that makes you still excited for more, while making sure to focus on the main story of this first arc. It was an excellent blend of mystery, fantasy, and adventure. I can picture it as a movie; the story was so detailed and immersive.

Can’t wait for the next arc to learn more about what happens to Aldous, Sophie, Renea, and of course, Kylian and Ailn!

I really enjoyed this book. It was a bit of a stray from my typical book genre (romantasy) and I was a little hesitant at first. However, the story grabbed my attention early on and I was hooked.

The character development was very interesting and I liked how we got to learn about several different characters. By the last few chapters I felt like I was part of the sleuthing process trying to figure it out. I also felt like as the story progressed and you learn more about each character's personality, you start rooting for certain ones.

The twists and turns were really enjoyable. There were a few times I thought for sure I had figured it out but was surprised by the next clue or reaction. Overall, a great read.

I received an advance review copy for free, and I am leaving this review voluntarily.

Definitely very manga like. Its got beautiful illustrations and follows the typical reincarnation isekai storyline. It works. I dont think it needed to be 450 pages long because, like other light novels, the plot is flimsy at best. There are some action scenes, mystery surrounding Ailn's death, and some other background plots. I did enjoy this book for what it was. Very easy and light. And loving Manga, anime, and this trope, the story worked for me. I like how Ailn's "death" was resolved, which lead into a deeper issue and I can't wait to read more. I want to mention again how beautiful the illustrations were. Loved how detailed they were and it added to the story as my brain didnt have to work to figure out what characters looked like.

Noir mystery meets fantasy isekai

A strong start to what I know will be an amazing series. The main character is a traditional noir detective who would not feel out of place in a Doyle or Christie novel. After death in a previous life shrouded in mystery, he is reincarnated as Ailn eum-Creid in a fantasy world filled with knights, magic, and a set of mysteries only he can solve.

I loved every moment of this book. The world is intriguing, the characters nuanced, and the main mystery gripping. The resolutions are earned and believable. Everything is hinted at if you pay attention to Ailn and what he observes without being obvious or dull.

Whether you like a good detective story, an interesting exploration of a new world and culture, or just some good old political and family drama, there's something for everyone and an interesting blend of genres. I highly recommend it.

I’ve always been interested in reincarnated anime, so I was excited to read this and it turned out to be a big surprise. The artwork is absolutely stunning, and the visuals really bring the story to life.

The pacing was a bit slow at first, so it took me a while to get into the plot, but the overall buildup was worth it. The author does a great job of tying everything together and leaving no loose ends. The characters are interesting and memorable throughout.

Even though solving his own murder is a major part of the story, I became so invested in the mystery of “who done it” that I almost forgot the larger mission for Ailn saving the world. I am interested to see where Ailn's next mission takes him.

Lovely detective story with a refreshingly competent protagonist

I had a blast with this one. I'm a sucker for a clever, confident protagonist, and Ailn really scratches that itch.

I love some good sleuthing, and watching the MC piece together the mystery behind his own murder, while also adjusting to a wild new medieval world and being thrown into political intrigue, kept me hooked.

Prose is solid, conversations feel real, and I really empathized with the characters. I love the author's sense of humor - they had me burst out laughing every few pages.

The art is gorgeous, and always a treat.

Also -- Sir Kylian is the GOAT.

He is not who people may think he is but he has real memories of his own. He asks her why she did that but she tells him it was done to protect him. He is a detective from another time who has to solve a mystery in this time. Follow him as he tries to find the answers he needs and if can return home
