I was raised to survive, not to belong. Pulled from the fiery pit of hell and shaped into something useful, I learned that loyalty was just another word for control. The Devil saved me once, then made damn sure I never forgot the debt I owed. I told myself I should be grateful. I wasn’t. By day I’m a tenured professor, a respected academic, a man who had made something of himself. At night, I do the Devil’s bidding. Two lives, one built on discipline and intellect, the other on violence and instinct. I thought I could keep them separate. I was wrong. They say you don’t miss what you never had. That’s a lie. Because when the truth emerges, I’m forced to face what the Devil never wanted me to learn. That family isn’t a comfort, it’s a liability, and I was nothing but collateral. She wasn’t supposed to matter. She was grief wrapped in steel, who had nothing left to lose, unafraid of the darkness surrounding her. Wanting her was reckless. Letting her get close was a mistake I would pay for. Because the Devil doesn’t lose pieces. He sacrifices them. As the truth is uncovered, it could destroy everything—or worse, prove that none of it was ever mine to begin with. Walking away could prolong the war. Staying means becoming the very thing I hate. And losing her is not an option. Either way, someone is going to bleed, and when my truth is revealed, it could burn everything to the ground.
DEVIL MAY CARE is a dark, emotional story of forbidden connection, devastating loss, and the kind of love that only grows in the aftermath of violence—where choosing each other may be the most dangerous decision of all.
This has been such a highly anticipated read for me ever since finishing her last book, I was desperate to find out who survived and who didn’t. Honestly, I feel like we didn’t get enough closure on that. We know some of the outcomes, but knowing Rebecca Joyce, I’m convinced there’s more coming and she’s going to hit us hard with it in the next book.
I did struggle a bit with this one. We spent an entire book investing in Ghost and Melissa, really building that connection… and then suddenly, one night changes everything. Now she’s with Rowan, and we’re told she loves him more than she ever loved Ghost. That just didn’t sit right with me.
I can’t help but feel like Ghost was done a bit of a disservice. He gave her everything, and while I understand things couldn’t go back to how they were, I really wish we’d had more time to process that shift—and for Ghost to get a bit more respect in the way things played out.
Don’t get me wrong, I did enjoy the story overall, but this is probably one of my least favourites in the series purely because of how that situation was handled.
Grief is profound and yet the beauty's in loving another can over come it .
⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ 🔥🔥🔥

MY THOUGHTS 💭
This was beautiful it was raw it was so much pain and heartbreak but it was so beautiful.
Just when I think Rebecca can't do anything more crazy she does it and every single tear every single breakdown that I had in this book was worth it for that ending.
Yes it makes me want more of them and it makes me want a second book for them but I truly loved this book.
Towards the end of this book there's a metaphor that is used and in the story it truly symbolizes what these two main characters have to go through to have it all.
Its definitely a book I'm going to have a hard time like not thinking about constantly.
Melissa is so strong-willed and she is so heavy-hearted and stubborn that it just makes her loud and messy but yet full of life.
Rowan is so selfless like this man was willing to destroy himself for the woman he loves.
I don't want to give any spoilers but I can say each character has a significant amount of trials and there is so much of a heavy heartness in this book and in a way they bonded over the loss and grief of someone so profound in both of lives even if it was for fleeting seconds.
The grief the pain and the pure acceptance at the end of This Book is what makes the love that formed out of this whole story so worth every second of it.
Melissa and Rowen have a tragic love story. But to get there Melissa battles feeling of abandonment from the time she was small. Parents, brother, partner. She rejects the MC life and the violence and loss it brings.
Rowen battles the man he wants to be with the man that feels has obligations to Sinclair. That obligation turns into the obligation to keep Melissa safe and what he has to become to make that happen.
I saw tragic love story because we learn the Ghost dies and after following Melissa and Ghosts story then how quickly she seems to fall in love with Rowen and that she loves him more than Ghost. I don’t know, sat weird with me.
Melissa….. I struggled with this book. I think it was where my head space was at the time, but I had a hard time seeing what she was dealing with. I saw her as self centered and righteous instead of seeing her as trying to deal with her trauma. Forcing Ghost to make a choice and telling Rowen she won’t “lose another person” - (ie you have to bend to my wants)
It took chatting with other readers to get a better understanding of Melissa and where she was coming from. (Doesn’t mean I agree, but I understand now)
This book also shows a bigger picture of the underworld and the factions that make it up.

This book leaves you with many thoughts but yet not many words. It will have you in your feels and tears so much. It very very raw, but so exceptionally well written as always by Rebecca. There’s some significant heavy hitters in here that will catch your breath, and some that won’t exactly sit right. But everyone has to understand that love is love and love has no ending. It’s okay to move on when people are gone. This book pulled back and showed many layers of many players throughout, but only just enough to keep us waiting for more. This book was different , it hit different for everyone. We got answers (some), always have more questions. Im excited go see what has fully happened in this war, and I’m still mourning my own losses 😭😭 until we meet again 🫶🏼
Wow this book was an absolute masterpiece a rollercoaster of emotions from devastating to beautiful. Rowan came from no where to being a major player , he put everything aside for his love for Melissa even if it ment losing her and himself. I loved Melissa’s character I felt I warmed to her in this book more so than previous stories she had been in I loved how she stood up to men regardless of who they were or which family they were head of . This book was full of the feels it’s going to take sometime to process everything that was in this story
4.5⭐️ Wow, I didn’t see that twist coming. The depth of love shown by some unlikely people really surprised me. It took me a while to finish this book, not because of its length, but because of the emotional journey it took me on. It was a difficult read at times, but I truly enjoyed it. Well done, Rebecca on another amazing story❤️!
As to not give away the story twist - the path to Rowan funding is one is filled with sadness for his partner but they eventually get their happily ever after. As with all of Rebecca’s books things are explained and more questions are raised. Until the next chapter!
FAN FREAKIN TASTIC!!!!!! This author has done it again! It never fails that she brings a book that will have me seething in anger, bawling my eyes out and feeling all warm and fuzzy (sometimes) by the end of the book. Who am I kidding, sometimes those things happen by the end of the first chapter. This time it was one HUGE rollercoaster of a ride!
Devil May Care is book 2 in the exciting The Playground Series. The Trick Pony left lasting impressions and no matter how long it's been, those traumas still rear their dirty heads.
"Funny thing about trauma: you can fight, you can try to forget, but some memories just carve themselves too deep."
Devil May Care is very emotional, very intense and very heartbreaking story. Rowen is playing a dangerous game or is in a dangerous situation. I've not made up my mind which yet but, I do know my heart hurts for him. Sinclair is another one I'm feeling kinda salty about. Then there's the visit from the Silver Shadows family too. Secrets revealed, twists and turns. There's a lot going on in this one. Devil May Care is an incredibly lengthy book but it definitely takes all the words to complete this journey. It's not a book that you can put down easily, so carve out plenty of time if you can so you can make it a one sitting read! You'll be glad you did!
“Sometimes, loss isn’t measured by time, but by the space someone occupies in your heart—even if only for a moment.”
I love a book I can sink my teeth into and I was not disappointed as I took the first bite of Devil May Care. I cannot believe that Rebecca managed to humanise, well almost 😅, the mighty chess player of lives, Sinclair, and I quote, “I do it because he asked me to. Because for once in my life, I’m choosing to help someone get what they want rather than what I think they need.” Who new the resident Mr Cool, Calm and Collective could be so thoughtful 🧐 Rowan, Melissa, Ghost and Dante are pivotal characters throughout this story and it certainly was a feast for my brain to devour. It’s an epic journey into more lives affected by the Trick Pony, does the damage caused never end. A definite page turner and very entertaining. 100% recommend this book to everyone ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ you will not be disappointed 😎🖤
I knew I was going to have leaky eyes , I was not wrong. Rowen is more than professor extraordinaire, being practically family to Sinclair it shouldn’t have been a surprise but who he’s related to was for sure. Sin is his usual manipulative self but it’s always for a reason, he’s much misunderstood in my mind. The biker war is happening , news is filtered through on who may or may not have survived but this what was happening else where and the aftermath reaches far and wide with after shocks felt for some time. I can not get enough of the goings on and shenanigans of Rebecca’s ( and Ann Silver’s) world, way too dangerous to live in but I treasure the mini breaks I spend there
Is it even a Rebecca Joyce book if she doesn’t have you curled up in a ball sobbing your heart out??? This one has all the feels, all the drama, all the intrigue and all the shocks that we have come to know and love, hmm maybe just like from a Rebecca Joyce book. This one is Rowan’s book and it is definitely a must read, this series is incredible. So many twists and turns that you never see coming, some questions answered, some questions raised,do yourself a favour and read this book. ❤️🖤
Oh my goodness! The biker war is heating up. The underground is in turmoil. And in the midst of all the danger, more skeletons come dancing out of the closet, and each revelation leaves us with more questions. Who will survive the war? Grab your tissues, some snacks, and curl up in your favorite blanket for a book that will take you on an epic roller coaster ride, and hit you hard in the feels. Rebecca Joyce has done it again, and I am left feeling hung over, yet eagerly anticipating the next book.
Sinclair is at it again playing God or more like Devil with the lives of pthers and this time we see Rowan brought back into the fold, revelations unravel with deathly consequences, and with new life growing, secrets and promises are made but will they be upheld when it matters? I wont memtion the hs name as it will spoil part of the book. The read is dark, twist filled, high emotions, drama and more.
What can I say? This book answers some questions I had since the last book. Who survived and who didn't it doesn't answer them all but you do get some much-desired answers. There are a lot of emotions in this one and we see how life changes and how sometimes we move forward through the hard stuff. per the usual for Rebecca the story pulled me in and made me want to read more. I look forward to reading more and seeing just what will happen next.
As usual Rebecca has written a great book. I actually didn't like the main character Rowan or Ghosts woman Melissa .After an attack we lose three good characters .Rowan finds out he is connected to the IRA .I find it difficult to read about the IRA as living under the atrocious acts they carried out .Nothing redeeming about them. But have this book five stars
This book took me a while to complete. There was so much information, in it. The emotional roller coaster that it put you through. I had hot/cold/hot/indifferent feelings for Melissa through the whole thing. Still don't know if I love or hate her. Rowan trying to figure out his life since the truth had been withheld from him. Sinclair, still don't like. It makes for a great story and Ioved it.
I enjoyed this story! This one is a rollercoaster of emotions. We see some of the fall out from the previous story. We meet Rowan and get more of a inside view into Sinclair. This book has my emotions all over the place and I can't wait to read what comes next!
The Playground Series just keeps giving. I'm still reeling and feeling all the emotions this book slapped our way. Rebecca is incredible with the way she paints the picture with her words.
I didn’t know what to expect when I started this book. Ghost was a favorite of mine so it’s being about his widow almost didn’t seem right to me. But Rebecca wrote the story so well. And Rowan was just want Melissa needed.
This also moved the whole universe forward and filled in some gaps since it was post King’s book.
