➕ What I liked :

The heroine was a little “older” (31)

Widow heroine.

Some parts in the beginning of the story were a little interesting.

Good/caring hero.

➖ What I disliked:

A little too formulaic.

A little too predictable.

Rushed.
(Even for a novella.)

The romantic build up/romance and chemistry was rushed (even for a novella) and somewhat insta and because of this rather lacking.

The main characters were kind of bland.

Underwhelming plot.

The heroine was somewhat annoying in some parts of the story.
(A little too naive and willfully ignorant about her own body and pleasure for a widow and also for a woman of her age (31) even for the time period the plot/story takes place.)

The heroines recurrent and repetitive thoughts of her very selfish and horrible late husband and her thoughts of comparison between him and the hero.
Some of it is understandable with how her marriage was and all… but it was too much and too often.

The character description/visual appearance of the heroine is on the vague side…..
(There is very little information about what the heroine actually looks like....)

The character description/visual appearance for the hero was a little better and more detailed… But is also formulaic.
(The hero is tall... muscular …and very handsome.)

⚠️Spoilers ! Spoiler! About ending !⚠️
⚠️Spoilers ! Spoiler! About ending !⚠️
⬇️⬇️⬇️⬇️⬇️⬇️⬇️⬇️⬇️⬇️⬇️⬇️⬇️⬇️⬇️⬇️⬇️

That the heroine deals with “infertility issues”…. Thinks she is “barren” because she had no children with her late husband.
But of course there is a miracle baby/”surprise pregnancy” in the end of the story… and later on it is revealed they had twins! 🙄
Very formulaic and unimaginative/unoriginal ending!👎
The book/story would have been much much more interesting and original if the heroine actually was barren!

This was extremely enjoyable. I liked Lucy and Holbrook immediately. She's a widow, just out of mourning and since she's surrounded by happily married couples, including her brother and best friend, she's wondering if she could be missing out. She meets Holbrook and is immediately drawn to him. He's equally enamored with her. She thinks she only wants a discreet affair with him but he wants her for a wife. Can they somehow meet in the middle? Are they compatible or just attracted to each other?

I liked their conversations and how they were open and honest with each other, not being secretive or telling half truths.

I believe this is the second book I have read by Suzanna and she's very talented. I like her writing style. I'll hunt down and work through this series and any other books she's written. I love finding new to me authors!.

I read one of Suzanna Medeiros' books in 2014 and didn't pick up her up again until Feb 2020. This is now my 18th book by her. I really enjoy her writing. One thing about me is I read a book, love it, hate it, whatever then move on to the next. So I have to keep notes about the authors so I'll know if I want to read any of their books again. These were my notes for Suzanna. Really like her books. They aren’t very long but writing is good, stories are good, sex is pretty decently described. I have also really liked this series.

I enjoyed Lucy and Lucas' story. I liked their personalities and their chemistry. I thought they seemed like a super cute couple. Sex was just the right amount for a short read. This book wasn't a long book but still got pretty good depth. I liked it quite a bit.

Loved the Hero!

I've read this author off and on for years, and it's nearly always a pleasure to pick up one of her books, especially after reading authors who’ve been disappointing! One thing I absolutely loved was how she turned a worn-out trope on its head in this book. If you read a lot of genre romance, as I do, you're very familiar with the overdone trope of either the hero or the hero (or both!) proclaiming at the start of the story that they have no interest in finding love or marrying. So I was delighted when this hero openly proclaims (in his mind) that he is ready to find a wife and sets out to do so, even if he's not exactly sure the best way to proceed! And I love how he holds on to this very sweet and romantic idea (as he explains it), even in the face of the heroine's desire to keep things, shall we say, a bit more casual. The heroine is a widow who lost her husband over a year ago when he was killed in a duel by a man he had cuckolded (one of a long line of such men). Just desserts for a bad historical romance husband, a man who has made her unsure of what she may or may not want from another man—or if she wants anything from one. I loved watching these two dance around attraction and growing feelings for each other, each supposedly interested in different relationships. I read a lot of Regency romance, and the way the author approached this felt relatively fresh, which is always a surprising delight. It's a relatively quick read. Highly recommended if you like spending a few hours in the skilled hands of a talented writer.

I received a free digital copy of this book, but that did not affect my review.

Tempting the Viscount is a historical romance by Suzanna Medeiros, and is the ninth and final book of Landing a Lord series. This novella is a fairly easy read and may be read as a standalone story - I've read only three books from this series and there is more than enough context about any background characters that featured previously.

Lucas Holbrook, the Viscount of Clarington, is the last of his friends to find a bride and the love of his life. He knows of Lucy, the widowed Lady Mansfield, because she is the younger sister of one of his good friends. And while there is attraction between them, where Lucas starts to get marriage on his mind, Lucy is happy as a widow.

Lucy's story is heartbreaking, as the details of her marriage become known to the reader. While she is ready for intimacy, she cannot fathom being tied to a man again. She also has the fear that she cannot have children. There are a lot of issues to work through, luckily with the help of her brother and sister in law, and now Lucas, Lucy starts to process things.

This is a rather gentle, and maybe a little spicy, romance set in regency era England. I found Lucas rather endearing and Lucy is both strong and resilient. Together they have a strong foundation that has the opportunity to build.

"Tell me, Lucy, are you one for wagers?"

And so he we have it. The last book in the Landing a Lord series. I went into it with mixed feelings because honestly I don't want to let these characters go.

I've been very fond of Holbrook since the Baron's return. He's such a great guy and clearly a romantic. I kept wanting him to finally find his true love and it's too bad he had to be last. Pairing him with Lucy was a great idea because she deserves someone like him after everything she's been through.

I liked the full circle Suzanna gave us, starting the series with the Duke of Clarington and his sister, Lucy's bff and then ending it with Lucy's story. There are a lot of cameos and references to all the people we've grown to love.

The story itself is short, romantic and doesn't have a lot of plot. Since we know Lucy and Holbrook, there isn't as much need to introduce the characters so it fits. I just wish there had been a bit more story. It's also not really a standalone as anyone who hasn't read the prior books will be lost with all the name dropping and references to past stories. Even though this is Lucy and Holbrook's love story, it's also kind of a series finale. It's wonderful to see everyone living their hea, thirteen years later, with family, children and lots and lots of love.

Reading this novella was a pleasant way to spend and afternoon. Widowed Lucy was surrounded by her friends that were happily married. Lucas, a bachelor, was embedded in the same group of happy people. Their acquaintances were featured in the earlier books of the series. It's not necessary to have read those books beforehand, in fact, I'm tempted to go back and read them!
Lucy's marriage was a complete disaster and she swears that she will never marry again. Lucas has gotten to the age when he finally wants to settle down. He is madly attracted to Lucy but he's disappointed that she is not emotionally in the same place that he is. She believes that she wants a simple dalliance but he is playing for keeps. Good thing that he is, because Lucy's powerful older brother would call him out otherwise.
The cat and mouse game between Lucy and Lucas was fun to read. The motivations of both characters were believable and there was no shortage of steam. I'm looking forward to reading more books by this author.

Well written by this talented author. Full of drama, love, intrigue, steam, secrets, courtship, society and family. Lucy is a Lady widow , sister of a Duke, whose husband died two years ago. Her husband was a rotten cheater who could give her a child and blamed her. He dies in a duel for cheating with a married woman. Lucas is a Lord who sees her at her brother's home when he is invited to dinner to round out the numbers. He wants her from that moment on. he gets help from her sister in law to call on her after dancing with her. He kisses her then makes her a wager that neither will lose. If the wager is lost by her then she agrees to a courtship with him, what a kiss it is. Both want each other but he gives her time to get to know him . Together there's lots of steam and heat between them. He learns her secrets and is able to talk to her about them. Lots of action plus some extended episodes to follow what occurs in their life. Great story to read and enjoy, Would recommend to everyone.

Such a sweet story! Lucy was married to a nasty philanderer for eleven years. Now she’s a widow, and as such, the men of the ton think she’s fair game. Her duke of a brother, who has been married to Lucy’s best friend for thirteen years, has only one unmarried man in his inner circle of friends, and that is Viscount Holbrook, to whom Lucy is quite attracted. She wants an affair. He wants marriage…and so begins their enchanting, and sometimes steamy, courtship. Holbrook is the antithesis of her first husband, and so charmingly good for Lucy. He delights in her naivety and she rejoices in his experience. The author throws in little tidbits that add interest to the story, like Lucy’s handling of Mr. Larson, the entry into the betting book at Whites, and the multiple epilogues. Sadly, this is the end of the series, but I am so happy that Lucy and Lucas get to have their happily ever after.

Liaison Or Marriage

This novella is a good series finale and a sweet love story between two characters who have appeared in previous books in the series. The plot is well written and easy to read with a second chance of love theme, at least for Lucy, likable main and supporting characters and a couple of steamy love scenes.

Now that all his friends are happily married, Lucas, Viscount Holbrook also wants a love match. The only woman he feels attracted to is the widowed Lady Lucy Mansfield. But Lucy has no intention of being trapped in another loveless marriage with an unfaithful husband or experiencing heartbreak and a an unsatisfying marital bed again, instead she offers him a casual affair. Holbrook knows that if he accepts Lucy’s offer, he could ruin his friendships and instead proposes a wager: if he can make her enjoy carnal pleasure, she will agree to let him court her...

If you like entertaining, easy and quick to read historical romance novellas, you will enjoy this book!

Lucy is a widow just ready to reenter society. She endured a miserable marriage with a man who died in a duel after an affair with a married woman. Lucas, Viscount Holbrook, is a friend of Lucy’s brother, the Duke of Clarington. They meet at a dinner party given by her brother, and again at the ball the next night. Lucas is totally taken with Lucy, and she with him. Lucy is reluctant to agree to a courtship, but a wager and a kiss like nothing she has ever experienced convince her to give it a try, just so that they can get to know each other. This is a warm, delightful story with a charming couple. Lucas is attentive, caring, and patient. Lucy is timid at first, but blossoms. There is some drama, secrets, lots of understanding, fun, a bit of steam, and a lovely romance. There are three epilogues, each expanding the story’s happy ending. Enjoyable read.

Tropes: MFC and MMC wager with each other; MFC is a widow who wants to experience pleasure; cinnamon roll hero
Steam level: 3
Last in the series but it's not confusing as a standalone.

4.25 stars. I really enjoyed this short, sweet and steamy wrap-up to this series. Lucy and Lucas have great chemistry. The wager they make together, that if he can help her find pleasure she will allow him to court her, doesn't come across as just the usual HR trope because Lucas has a heart of gold (book boyfriend material right here). No manufactured angst or Big Misunderstandings, just a couple who are around 30 trying to work through the past to reach their HEA.
Even if you haven't read the series, I still recommend this.

I read an advanced reader copy of this book and this is my voluntary review. Thanks to the author, publisher, and Book Sprout for this opportunity.

This is the last book of the Landing a Lord series. It's a bit unusual in that the lady is a Dowager who made a bet by seeking a lover after a turbulent unhappy marriage. The contender is a Viscount who was a well known rakehell. If he can show her pleasure, then she will allow him to court her. Before long, their undeniable attraction to each other promises not only passion but also learning from each other as they navigate the unreasonable demands of a strict society who can be unforgiving of any deviation against its own strict rules. This is a story of instant attraction, learning to trust and giving love a second chance.

I thoroughly enjoyed reading this book. I will re-read this again.

A Viscount’s Dilemma

Surrounded by happily married couples, widow Lucy, Lady Mansfield, is doubtful of her ability to experience a happy union with anyone and is considering an affair. Viscount Holbrook finds himself as the bachelor among his friends and is considering the marriage mart. He has just found a woman who holds his interest. Read how Lucas will have to convince Lucy that courtship is the eventual road to happiness.
The author holds our interest immediately with a delightful setting, appealing characters and a simple plot…a little steam provides additional warmth. Definitely worth a reread.

Recently widowed, Lucy seeks a life of freedom. But when she meets Viscount Holbrook, she can’t resist the spark between them. She proposes a scandalous arrangement, but Holbrook is determined to behave honorably. As their desires intertwine, they must decide if a passionate affair can blossom into something more.

This novella is a steamy read that focuses on the physical aspects of the romantic relationship. The characters are likable, and I’m glad Lucy got her HEA after everything she went through with her first husband.

Thanks, Booksprout, for the ARC I received. This is my honest and voluntary review.

Well written book for a short story. Lucy is a widow, and after long years with a cheating husband, she is not inclined to marry. However, she does want to explore passion. Enter Lucas, an all-around sweetheart. He sees his friends around him happily married and gets bitten by the marriage bug. Once he meets Licy, he is determined to change her mind and marry her. His honor keeps him from acting on their mutual wager, but a slight wrinkle in the plot pushes him to fight scrappy what he wants. The steam is appropriate for the context and length of this book. Good read!

I absolutely enjoyed this slowburn to sizzle romance as Lucy, a widow, is pursued by Lucas. Having had a horrible marriage she is not looking for anything more than a lover. Lucas is hot in pursuit of forever. A little wager leads us to a HEA. As always the Suzanna Medeiros provides us with a well written story that you can escape into for that romance fix. I am going back to read the books in this series that I missed!

Lucy and Holbrook are the main characters. Lucy's first husband died. She did not have a good marriage. She is content to be on her own. She meets Holbrook, who would like to get married. They are attracted to one another. She wants an affair, he wants a marriage. They are honest with each other. The journey from this point to their happily ever after is interesting. This was a satisfying quick read from a good author.

Fairly quick and easy read here. Widowed Lucy is out of mourning for her terrible husband and ready to take on a lover. Viscount Holbrook is intrigued by Lucy but wants to court her instead. They make a bargain having to do with helping her find pleasure in exchange for a courtship. It’s all very straightforward and it was nice seeing Holbrook focus his attentions on Lucy and trying to convince her that she deserves pleasure, companionship, and love.

This book was a great addition to the series. The characters, Lord Holbrook and Lucy were very well-written and likable immediately. The whole story flowed at a good pace and was never dull. Lucy had a horrible husband so I can understand why she doesn’t want to marry again. She wonders if she can find temporary happiness with a lover and wants Lucas to be that man. But he wants a lifetime and bets he can bring her pleasure for the chance to court her. He wants to be honorable and protect her from men who will do anything to make her their lovers even unwillingly after a betting book bet. But he has to earn her trust to gain her heart in this steamy novella romance.

I enjoyed this novella. This is an excellent short story. I liked the two main characters, Lucy and Lucas, but I particularly liked him as the romantic one. After a disastrous marriage, Lucy is determined not to marry again, and she only wants an affair. Lucas, however, envisions himself settling down and has a different plan for them. We follow their journey toward their HEA. They have lovely chemistry together.

The last unmarried couple…

Lucy, just out of mourning, had a terrible marriage that started out as a live match but quickly soured as her husband was repeatedly unfaithful.
She’s looking for one lover. Him.

Viscount Holbrook is the last unmarried make amongst his friend group. He finds Lucy attractive but is looking for marriage.
He counters her proposal with one steamy one of his own.
Recommend.
