Barbara Kramer began writing biographies for children and young adults after following the advice of another author who said, “Write what you like to read.” She remembered how much she enjoyed biographies when she was a kid, especially stories about trailblazers such as David Crockett, Daniel Boone, and Elizabeth Blackwell. She decided that’s what she wanted to write. Her subjects have included historical figures and people in the news. She and her husband live in Iowa with their cat, Katie. They have two grown children and two granddaughters.
I remember reading this book in 2018 and it was excellent. I enjoyed reading about Alice Walker's life from this short biography and it was a great read considering my school work. 5/5 I would recommend this to anyone interested in learning more from the author of the color purple. I can't wait to read more from her including finishing the color purple, as it is currently dnf'd because the school had gotten in the way and I haven't finished reading it yet. Hopefully, in 2019 I can read the color purple and The Help.
The Color Purple was an insperation book to me because it was about how a black women gets abused by her father and has 2childrens with hm. Then he forces her to get marry with Mr.__ who she doesn't even know him that well. When she moves with Mr.___ she also gets treated bad by him and his own kids. She doesn't have communication with her sister Nettie because Mr.__ doesnt allow her to communicate with her in any way. Celie meets new people which is Mr.___ ex wife her name is Shug. When Shug and Celie get along she starts having a feeling towards her which was 'Love'. She starts a new beginning by making jeans of her own and she became independent. Later she finds out that her supposedly father isn't actually her father it was just a men. Finally she sees her sister Nettie with Celies daughter and son after so many years.
I love this book because I had fun reading it. It isn't does boring books that start good and ends bad this book actually comes from dificult challenges and end with good news. At the beginning the author starts with Celie having bad grammar and that kind of confused me and i didn't like it. The author also starts with journal entries starting with 'Dear God' I wonder why the author started like that.
Also the author describes Mr.___ without a name but it does mention it but why does people call him Mr.___ instead of his name? Thats what i had trhough my mind while I was reading the book. Celie also is been describe in many ways that kind of grab my attention with her being straight or being homosexual. All characters had something different and thats what made this book so unique.
I will totally recommend this book to anyone who likes to read about books of women who had lots of struggles but made it through life. This book was amazing and i love it. Also people can relate to it in any different way.
