From New York Times bestselling author,

Rachel Southerland’s life runs on a tight schedule. She’s never met a variable she couldn’t control and likes it that way. But when a job loss threatens her orderly world and her identity, she sets off on the Appalachian Trail to find peace in the Blue Ridge Mountains.

Ian Maxwell hasn’t worn a watch for years, waking with the sun and working all day in the forest he loves. On the surface his life seems unambitious, but still waters run deep, and Ian has secrets of his own.

When a chance meeting in the quiet shadow of the mountains throws them together, Ian tries to hold on to his calm and help Rachel find hers. But she hits his life like a hurricane, sending waves barreling through his peace. Can they work together to find something richer than either of them imagined or will what they thought they wanted keep them from seeing the love standing right in front of them?

Giving Up Control and Riding the Pause

Ian and Rachel meet unexpectedly on the Appalachian Trail. She's just lost her job and he needs to clear his mind from the paperwork generated by his woodworking business. These two are poplar opposites when it comes to controlling their own lives. His is relaxed making art out of wood while she has to have quantifiable results. Their attraction is quick, yet sweet. I adore The Southerland series!

Took a couple of chapters to get me invested in this story, but when I came around, Rachael and Ian got under my skin and I felt as though I had to read on, to get to the next episode of this series. The plot was not as flawless as the others, but the book is enjoyable and a nice fill-in.

Everyone is Married

Marriages and babies every where. This is a family full of love. She makes reading a pleasure and relaxing. In this world of turmoil. Are there small towns and large families that still hold that much love between them? Just a thought. Really good reading.

Evelyn Adams “Riding the Pause” is the fourth book in the Southerland Series.

Rachel Southland life is all about control in her professional and personal life. When the company she works for has been bought by another company, her position has been eliminated. She goes to the Blue Ridge Mountains for find her answers on the Appalachian Trials. Here is where control is not going to be her only obstacle.

Ian Maxwell having had enough of dealing with his business and paperwork decides to hit the trails with his dog, Apollo.

Ian has had one marriage and not looking for another and Rachel likes order in her life. When these two paths cross on the trails, they can feel a connection but Rachel takes off without saying goodbye. Fate brings them together again when she learns that her bother, Adam, is friends with Ian. Every encounter between these two only brings them closer but can they look past their fears and find love in one another.

I love how Ian and Rachel can read the other and get in each other’s mind. Except they are both too scared to let down their guard to tell each other that they don’t want to be apart from them

Will Rachel stay or leave her mountain man when Peter has a job offer for her?

Will Ian let the past and an argument he had with Rachel jeopardize the happiness he could have with Rachel?

Lots of wonderful information surrounded by a delightful story. It was great learning more about a part of the country I'm not familiar with. I never knew about the trails and some of the other tidbits that have come out in the rest of the series. I also didn't know the meaning behind this title either. You'll have to read it to find out what that is tho.

I think Ian and Rachel make a wonderful couple and complete each other well. One thing that really spoke to me was each of their commitment to being the best they could be. They each give 100% to whatever is important to them, the from work they each love to do to relationships.

I have read all of the Southerland series by Evellyn Adams and I enjoy learning more and more about this family and their quirks.
Rachel Southerland has lost her job and goes trekking through The Appalachians to ponder what she is next going to do. Unplanned, but destined, she meets Ian Maxwell, an artistic woodsman who really has no idea what is missing in his left. Although the two have little in common, they find love in helping each other see their lives quite differently.
I have enjoyed each of Evelyn Adams's books.
