This was an intriguing collection of stories with great characters, lots of humor, drama, mystery, suspense, and crazy antics by just about everybody. I enjoyed reading this series, and the unconventional adventures in this small mountain town.
There were a few things that I felt needed to be addressed, and they're why I didn't give a higher rating. The cases that the Sheriff and Bishop worked on together were intense, complex, suspenseful, and intriguing. However, there were many things that weren't included in those investigations, basic investigation tactics that should have been added. For example, one of the stories happened in a diner, but the owner and staff of said dinner were never questioned?!? There were many instances like this throughout the series, but I've always refused to give away spoilers, so I won't give anymore examples. Another thing, and yes, this was probably my own little pet peeve (lol!!), but in one of the earlier stories in the series there was a scene that included the names of some deceased people listed. I have absolutely no problem with that. However, during another story that was closer to the end of the series, which should have put the time line either months or a year later, another scene had included the names of some deceased people, but - and this is the issue - the names were the exact same ones! Now, I know a bit about how small towns (weather country/mountain/etc) are, and though they do move a lot slower than the cities, they are NOT that slow. Lol!!! Now, I could be completely wrong, the names that were in both stories could've been extremely similar, like a relative or something, but I find it very difficult to believe that during both times that Bishop needed the help from an old friend that the deceased were people who had the same/similar names. JMO! There were a couple of other things that kinda bothered me as well, but as I've said, I refuse to give away spoilers and giving examples would do just that.
Overall, this collection of stories was a great read. I do wish that there had been a bit more to the endings of each book, as they seemed to end a little abruptly. I do believe that it's a series that most will enjoy.
The characters were great with each book the mysteries were interesting. Some better than others as I read the whole series. While these books have some great thrills, unique situations and lots of conundrums. The repetition of phrases with local flavors of the area started to not be as charming or as funny . I just started speed reading through them as you tend to know when they were coming. If not for that I might've bumped up the rating .
This series of books was spell binding. I enjoyed each book in the series. However the books need serious editing. I found many errors that were missed and several inaccuracies. For example it was Loretta Lynn who sang Coal Miners Daughter, not Dolly Parton.
This is a great series of stories. Each episode stands on its own merits while contributing to the overall story arc that runs through the series. Lots of murder and mayhem as well as a well written plot background that is engrained in every page. Well worth a read
