It’s hard for me to stay focused throughout the story, but this one definitely kept me on the edge of my seat. It’s suspenseful and interesting. I definitely recommend it.

Oakstone by Solomon Stone

The story begins with children riding a bus, with one kid in particular, Lucian, noticing strange shadows in the distance feeding on cattle. He cannot clearly identify what the figures are, but he has a deep gut feeling that he truly does not want to know.

The story then progresses to the children’s home located in Oakstone Manor. With many of the children already returned to their families and others having nowhere to go, only a small group of kids and staff remain. As a snowstorm continues to worsen, the staff is left to care for the handful of children still there.

At the same time, three fugitives are on the run and end up getting pulled over by a cop. While the leader, Corey, tries to keep his composure, things quickly go downhill. When the officer returns after checking the license, one of the men, Bluff, shoots him and they speed off. With the snowfall slowing them down, they search for shelter and come across the Morgan Estate, a place where disaster struck thirteen years earlier. Deciding it is not safe enough, they continue up the mountain to Oakstone Manor, forcing their way inside and holding everyone hostage.

This is where the story truly begins. You follow the experiences of the staff, the children, and the felons as they fight to survive against unknown creatures. Some escape in the end, and the story fast forwards years later. The manor is no longer a children’s home, but a haunted house.

4 out of 5 stars for Author Solomon Stone has a unique way of pulling you in and keeping your attention as the story unfolds. The formatting can be a bit rough at times, but it does not take away from the story itself. I found myself eager to turn the pages and see what happened next, though I was left with a few lingering questions by the end.

👉I Haven’t Finished a Book in Years. Until This One

I’m giving this one 4 stars and honestly, I’m so glad I picked it up.
I haven’t finished a full book in a long time, so the fact that I read this one all the way through really says something. Oakstone completely pulled me in. The atmosphere was so vivid and immersive. I could picture everything so clearly, even down to what it might smell like. That kind of writing sticks with you.
It also hit a nostalgic note for me. Werewolves were some of the first stories I remember writing with my sister when I was younger, and this brought that same eerie, can’t-look-away feeling back in the best way.
My only reason for 4 instead of 5 stars is the ending. It felt like it was hinting at something deeper, but it wasn’t fully clear to me. I would have loved just a bit more clarity or closure there.
That said, this was a strong, atmospheric read that kept me engaged the whole way through, one I’ll definitely remember, and one I’d absolutely recommend.

My scoring system
⭐ Don't quit your day job
⭐⭐ It was tough to finish
⭐⭐⭐ A solid read
⭐⭐⭐⭐ That was fun!
⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ I need more. If you don't give it, I'm going to kidnap you Misery-style,

Oakstone, a home for troubled children, children with a history, so to speak, is getting ready for Christmas break. As busloads of its inhabitants are trying to get through the snowy weather, it becomes apparent someone - or something - is roaming the area.
Close by, a small group of criminals is trying to evade the law and at one point, the two worlds come together in facing what is roaming the woods outside Oakstone.

This was a fantastic book: gritty, filled with dread and marvelous character interaction, storytelling and dialogue. The (shifting) dynamics of both groups when it becomes clear there are much worse things than they could've ever imagened, is absolutely wonderful.

This book doesn't play gentle, the author isn't afraid to make (tough) choices and the ending is both satisfying enough to leave it there, but also makes me want more.

If you hate Twilight then this book is for you. This is how werewolves are meant to be. Scary, Ominous, and down right thrilling. You never know what’s going to happen and it keeps you on the edge of your seat. We start out in a children’s home everyone is getting ready for Christmas Break, as everyone is leaving a snow storm happens forcing everyone left to stay put. We also have criminals who broke out of jail trying to find a place to crash for the night and they come across the children’s home. So you have multiple dangers inside and out. The ending will leave you wanting more. Def read Oakstone if horror is your vibe.

A snowstorm, a stranded children’s home, and something hunting in the woods… this book wastes no time pulling you into its icy grip. The tension builds fast and never lets go, with layered threats both inside and out keeping you guessing the whole way through. The characters feel real, the dialogue snaps, and the dread seeps in like cold through cracked windows. It’s gritty, bold, and not afraid to go dark. The ending satisfies but still leaves that haunting itch for more.
If horror is your thing, You Will Love This Book!

Great horror book

I was searching Amazon for a new horror book to read and thought I had to settle on this book. Finished it within hours. One of the best horror books I've read in the last year.
I'm following this author and look forward to reading more of his work.
