Kay Ellis lives in rural Oxfordshire with her two daughters. She has written stories from an early age, starting with an epic adventure penned at primary school which sadly had to end when a hard-hearted teacher refused to supply any more writing paper.

Over the years Kay’s style has changed as she has grown more confident in her writing, developing a relaxed and informal style. She has also become braver in content, turning her hand to writing gay and straight erotica.

Kay writes for the love of writing and from a fear her head will explode if she doesn’t have a release for her vivid imagination.

It’s only now Kay has found the courage to submit work for publication, having recently finished in the top three of a national writing competition.

Kay Ellis can now be found on Facebook.

Since I've read both books in this series back to back I will base my review as if they were one offering which is fitting as this series deals with duality in a single body.Tylan is an exiled prince on the run. Some would say that he is doubly cursed, one he is possessed by a horrifyingly deadly fire entity of whom if he loses control of can literally lay waste to entire cities and two he is a lover of men or in this case in love with a single man.

Though this book soars as a fantasy the writing style is very stark in exploring the love bits.I disliked the other male character as he comes across as brutish & extremely controlling. He constantly belittles his partner as if he is a 12 year old sexual toy that needs to be punished with brutal sex if he does not toe the line.A theme which runs rampant throughout the second book. The single pov exacerbates this situation somewhat.

To a certain degree I understand his fears & brutish behavior towards his younger companion because he was told in the earlier book that if his lover ignited without boundaries he would burn to ash but yet the tight constraints that he forces upon his doormat allows him little to no room to grow to explore his gifts.

Despite these minor details that irked me somewhat,my profound love of fantasy compels me to whisper out a quiet 4 stars.

Tylan and Sully have been hidden away for the past few years after escaping Tylan’s father, the King. But when word of the King’s last heinous act reaches them, they know it’s time to put an end to the King’s reign. First, they have to prove Tylan is back to kill his father to a band of forest boys before they can actually get into the castle and kill the king. But there’s a traitor among their group, will they be able to get to the King before the traitor leads them into a trap?

I’m not sure how I feel about this book, to be honest. On one hand, I enjoyed it more than the first book, Fireheart. But on the other hand, I feel like I hate the characters even more now than I did before. Tylan eventually becomes a little more grown up but he’s also still so sheltered because Sully wouldn’t allow him to grow, so to speak, but Tylan also didn’t want to grow. Sully was endearingly possessive but at the same time almost more verbally abusive than he was before. It was a little disconcerting because when I started liking one, they’d do something and I wouldn’t like them anymore. This book also had so much sex and I absolutely hated the fact that Tylan is still so naive and that he blamed his actions on Sully (kissing Trav and saying it’s because of Sully, SERIOUSLY?!), it made me so angry especially when Sully just forgave him like it was no big deal Tylan would have spread his legs for anyone willing.

BUT I won’t lie. I really liked the plot line. I love that Tylan was going to stand up to his father and put an end to his reign. I liked that everyone didn’t love Tylan right away and he had to prove himself. I liked that Sully was so possessive and I really liked how everything turned out in the end.

Overall, this wasn’t a bad story. I liked it as much as I liked the previous book, I suppose and I’m really looking forward to seeing how the rest of Tylan and Sully’s storyline turns out. If you’ve read Fireheart then you should definitely read this one!

After a third into into the story, it got quite interesting. Though it was not the ending I was expecting. There are now all these questions such as how can that 'thing' be king and will it be accepted? What happened to Gannon? Trav? Will the new and improved Tylan pursue Sulley?

Book 3, if there will be one, can only be better than 1 and 2.
