Tires flying over the interstate, college student Ian Dillon can’t get out of Greenville, SC quickly enough. As he watches his entire life fading away in his rearview mirror, his thoughts are only of his lover, Todd, and the memories of their time together, now completely shattered by Todd’s incomprehensible betrayal. His mind still reeling, Ian drives through the night until a split second decision guides him to Nashville, Tennessee. Everything will be better there. It has to be!
Scotty Cade left Corporate America and twenty-five years of Marketing and Public Relations behind to buy an Inn & Restaurant on the island of Martha’s Vineyard with his partner of over twenty years. He started writing stories as soon as he could read, but just five years ago for publication. When not at the Inn, you can find him on the bow of his boat writing gay romance novels with his Shetland sheepdog Mavis at his side. Being from the south and a lover of commitment and fidelity, most of his characters find their way to long healthy relationships, however long it takes them to get there. He believes that in the end, the boy should always get the boy.
This was a short quick read that I liked. Ian Dillon is leaving his home and everyone he loves. When boyfriend of two years tells his parents that he forced him to have sex. His parents disown him for being gay. Ian ends up in Nashville while at a bar he meets the owner Jean who gives him a job and a place to live. This book had no sex scenes in it but I still liked. This was the being of this series. This book was well written with no errors in grammar or spelling. I am looking forward to reading the next book.
At first, I was hesitating between 2,5 and 3 stars. This is not really to be considered as a book but more than a prologue to the book Before the Final Encore (as it is said in the title). But it makes me want to read this book so that why I give it 3 stars.
This prologue seems a bit rushed and incomplete. It would be better at the beginning of the book it's supposed to be laying the groundwork for. But it's still an interesting idea and read.
I have to say that I love a happy ending:-) I understand betrayal. I am glad things are starting to look up for Ian. Now I am going to have to definitely read Final Encore. I do so love a happy ending.
This is actually a prequel to Final Encore which is being/has been re-released with some changes. This intro probably is beneficial to the full story but doesn't say much as a stand alone (short) read.
Before the Final Encore is not really much of a book, it is 30 pages and reads more like a chapter of Final Encore than its own story. It is the brief story of Ian leaving Greenville after some family drama, and arriving in Nashville, where he actually is able to start to build a life for himself.
There isn’t enough here to review, there is no romance, and no plot, just a bit about Ian. It could easily have been included in Final Encore….
So if you are going to read Final Encore go and download this free short from Dreamspinner (Amazon charges for it, but it’s free at Dreamspinner and ARe) and take the fifteen minutes to read it. You’ll probably understand Ian a bit better. Don’t read it on its own, it won’t make any sense without reading the other book.

This is great introduction to the series it tells the story of Ian leaving his homeland of Greenville to where ever he may end up. Greenville held horrible memories he wanted to escape from. Heart break was one thing he near wanted to feel ever again that he was positive off. At 22 years a new start is what he wanted. He drove as far as he could drive which was to Nashville. Jean's Magnolia Saloon just might be what he needs. He walks in...and you gotta read what happens next... I'm not telling. hahaha.. But I loved the ending and I need more of Ian's Story, ..
Well, I could not say that I did not like it! However, it was so short that I could not remember reading it until I read the blurb again. This would have made a good first chapter to the previous story "Final Encore." This gave a bit of explanation to the back story, but was not fleshed out enough to be a stand alone book. By all means, you should read this story after reading the REAL story of "Final Encore."
