Wedding photographer Sloane Michaels spends most of her year chasing brides, but she lives for the six weeks each spring she chases tornadoes instead.
When a prestigious nature magazine announces a storm-cover contest, Sloane knows winning could be her best chance to break into landscape photography.
The last thing she needs is distraction in the form of reckless storm-chasing legend “Wild Wes” Talbot. Her close, personal frenemy for a decade, Wes is also the man to beat.
Sloane isn’t surprised when Wes gets in an accident that jeopardizes his chances of winning. But when an active weather pattern emerges, she doubles down on her need to win fair and square and begrudgingly invites him to join her for the rest of the season.
As they race through hail, high winds, and stormy skies, Sloane realizes Wes might be more than the rich, flirty wildcard she thought she knew—and that the feelings brewing between them are even more charged than the storms they chase.
Heather Frances is a writer, photographer, lifelong weather nerd and occasional storm chaser cleverly disguised as an adult with a day job in finance (though she really prefers writing kissing books). When not at home in New England drinking far too much coffee, you’ll find her somewhere with questionable cell phone service, camera in hand.
Chase Me If You Can written by Heather Frances was authentic, emotional, beautiful, heart warming, raw, pure, personal, relatable, and lyrical. As a storm girlie and someone who grew up in Tornado Alley, I was so blessed and excited to get my hands on an early copy because thunderstorms are so therapeutic, but tornadoes are so devastating, the damage they can cause is so unimaginable and heart breaking. I have witnessed a few tornadoes right up close, yes they are a part of mother nature, but the damage they do to families and communities is top notch heart breaking. There is one part in this book that truly touched my heart, Heather Frances wrote a tornado scene that touched the ground, but when she detailed the story of communities and volunteers coming together to help one another after devastation had me crying silently into my pillow, it's so beautiful witnessing strangers coming together during unimaginable pain and destruction to care for one another. When I learned that Heather is a storm chaser herself, I couldn't believe this is a debut novel because the novel felt that much more realistic and personal. Before I forget to mention, this cover is absolutely gorgeous, it captures the essence of life right before the storm. As someone who is a fan of the movie Twister, I knew I had to snag this book to get those storm thrills. Miss Heather delivered with this book, but the two main issues I had was the third-act breakup and the repititiveness which dragged the story a bit in my opinion. If you are a storm thrill seeker, be sure to mark your calendars for June 23rd, 2026 because you won't want to miss out on this storm chasing novel.

Sloane Michaels is a wedding photographer, she might spend most of her year running after brides trying to get the perfect shot on one of their biggest days, but Sloane lives for the six weeks each spring she chases tornadoes instead. Despite being a wedding photographer, Sloane takes six weeks off to storm chase and get the best photos of the wildest storms. Sloane has been storm chasing for over a decade now and the thrills never dissipate. Sloane isn't your average storm chaser when she's looking for the best photo, she doesn't just take random pictures and call it a day, Sloane looks for growth versus decay, and beauty versus destruction. This year Sloane is on a mission because she's working for Nature Shots and they have never featured a female photographer on their magazine covers before, so Sloane's mission is to take the best photos so she can win and be the first ever female photographer to be featured on Nature Shot's magazine cover. I related so much to Sloane, as a people pleaser we never want to fail those around us no matter how wrong or dirty they did us, we always show up no matter the hands we are dealt with. Sloane is just a simple girl that has a weakness for chocolate milkshakes and lives off of iced cherry mochas. During the six weeks of storm chasing, Sloane tags along with her best friend Tracy and Tracy's fiancé Matt- their humor is so funny it had me laughing nonstop. I absolutely loved Tracy and Sloane's friendship, Tracy is Sloane's only best friend. Sloane's mom truly annoyed me- you will get a mini backstory on her but during Sloane's childhood her mom fell in love with the wrong men and alcohol and basically wants Sloane to do everything for her. My favorite part of this book is when Sloane did a photoshoot in a pink dress with her hair in beach waves and had a storm as a backdrop which gave me the idea to live my life freely and have a stormy photoshoot this summer as a storm girlie. Sloane is such a pretty name, if I ever have a daughter one day I've always wanted to name her Sloane.
Wes Talbot is a legend among storm chasers, he storm chases April through summer monsoon season. Wes has a reckless streak that earned him the nickname "Wild Wes" because sometimes he's just so reckless without thinking through his choices. Wes is a beautiful man in the way tornadoes beautiful. Wes Talbot is a one part adventure photographer and one part thirst trap- ladies this man will have you drooling. I seriously love this man- he had a Nerd Clusters addiction and loves the blue ones which are hands down the best and shotguns energy drinks like there's no tomorrow. The best way to describe Wes is an obnoxious adrenaline junkie, but he has the biggest softest heart that we as women want in our lives. This man is tatted, he has bird tattoos on his chest and wildflowers that grow along the riverbank on his arm- like goodness gracious I had hearts coming out of my eyes for this man. Despite being obnoxious at times, Wes is secretly protective over Sloane, every time she is shivering cold- Wes always has a hoodie on deck immediately, he never has to be asked- he's just such an attentive person. I absolutely love and adore Wes despite how reckless he can be, but I just wanted to give him the biggest hug because he insults himself thinking he's not good enough because of his childhood. Wes protected his mom from his verbally abusive father that threw nasty insults at Wes but as a child Wes grew up protecting his mama. Wes is the type of person whose very generous with his affection but at the same time he's always right there when you need him in your corner. Ladies, get you a man that will sing you Taylor Swift songs like Wes Talbot did for Sloane.
Sloane and Wes have been long rivals for a decade always crossing paths as storm chasers, but this year they are forced to work together and team up as storm chasers because Wes totaled his car after his windshield was shattered by a hailstorm because reckless Wes went into the eye of the storm. Sloane and Wes are working together to get that perfect photo for Nature Shots- their final entries are due by July 1st, they need to find an image that tells a story in order to win this contest to be featured on this magazine cover. When Wes called Sloane darling in his Texas accent, y'all let me just say I was swooning over the moon for this man. Wes and Sloane are equal amounts of chaos but their banter was top tier hilarious. Despite being a legend storm chaser, Wes was oh so very supportive over Sloane's photos, he constantly gave her high praise even though they are both trying to win this contest. During their storm chasing extravagance, Wes and Sloane had the sweetest moments together. Wes would get Sloane pink Peeps and coffee to start her day- like goodness gracious this man is so precious. One moment that truly captured my heart was one night when Sloane had a migraine and Wes took out her braid and played with her hair- oh my heavens I need a Wes Talbot in my life. Life as a storm chaser can be very hard and chaotic but when Sloane had a bad day Wes would show silent support in the form of a hand holding finger squeeze or a teddy bear hug which I found to be so comforting as someone who is afraid to ask for help. There were also parts of this book that annoyed me- specifically when Sloane stopped at a gas station and these shitty men made smart ass comments towards Sloane where they thought a woman always needs a man to conquer the world, but my girl Sloane over here was a badass and told these men to back off because we definitely don't need a man to walk through life, some women like to be independent badasses.
this was cute!! i had a good time reading it, but sadly it didn't really blow me away. the romance had some sweet moments and i liked the main characters well enough, but i never got super attached to them or fully invested in the relationship.
the story was easy to get through (i finished it in under 24 hours) and there were definitely parts that had me smiling, but a lot of it felt pretty predictable, and in some places a little cheesy. i kept waiting for something to make me really feel something and it just never quite got there for me.
overall, i liked it more than i didn't and i'm glad i read it!! not a new favourite, but still a solid romance if you're looking for something fun and easy to pick up!
⭐️ 3 ⭐️ I think sometimes it is fair to say that love and romance is like chasing a storm? And todays forecast says that its cloudy with 100% forced proximity and 100% of him falling for her first.
The story follows two storm-chasing photographers, Sloane and Wes, that are entering a contest while navigating a long rivalry and growing attraction. Sloane and Wes spent a decade as rivals, always crossing paths but never crossing the line.. until his car is totaled and he needs a ride. Wanting to beat him fair and square, she offers him to ride with her while they get their shots for the upcoming competition. Their little road trips are all about the storm chase, the adrenaline and exciting vibes but while she's chasing the prize, he's chasing her but she doesn't know or see it..not yet! Their forced proximity dynamic becomes addictive as Sloane tries to fight her feelings for Wes. Unable to stay away, they decide to take a step further but Sloane's self doubt and negative thoughts are still there holding her back. Six weeks to win, six weeks to escape family obligations and expectations, six weeks to leave her footprint--Will Sloane have what it takes to bet on herself?
Some of my initial thoughts: First and foremost, Cara and I did a buddy read and we had the best time! It was fun to share our thoughts with each other and knowing that I'm not a fan of contemporary romances, Cara made this experience a lot better. So please check out her review! https://www.goodreads.com/review/show/8208087396
I hear that Heather Frances is a storm chaser herself? That must be an incredible experience to see a tornado up close and personal. I am a big fan of Twister and was hoping for a thrilling, adrenaline fueled storm-chasing atmosphere (a scene or two at least) here but I felt that the 'storm-chasing' backdrop was subpar to my expectations. And yes, I am aware that this is not that type of a story but for a book that literally has two storm-chasing photographers..I expected a little more storm and a little more chase. Nevertheless, there were some scenes that had stormy like weather but they didn't give the thrills I was hoping for. I felt that the side gig of wedding photography overshadowed the storm-chasing backdrop. The entire book seemed like it was primarily focused on Sloane's photography/wedding gig vs actual storm chasing. It was running a lot in circles and was dragging for majority of the story. It would have been more interesting if Frances linked their feelings to actual storm chasing.
Both main characters had personal dilemmas that were not fully answered. For Sloane, her main issues revolved around strained relationship with her mother. Her mother was a very unlikable character--needy, had no boundaries or personal space. She seemed like she put herself first before she put her children when the kids were younger, leaving Sloane (who is the eldest) to care and raise her younger brothers. Sloane carried the weight on her shoulders and felt responsible in more ways than she should have at a young age (she was only a teen) and that weight carried over into her adulthood. Her brothers also didn't make it easier for her; they dumped a lot of responsibilities on salon even in her adulthood. That led to a lot of resentment and detachment. To be frank, I wasn't understanding why Sloane's mother was this way (the root of the issues was not 100% clear) and the fact that this had zero resolution even by the end of the story left many of my questions unanswered. Same issues applied to Wes and his relationship with his father. I felt that this wasn't well explored. It was mentioned a few times and Sloane had many cracks to explore this, but she chose not to. I thought this took away from both character development, overall leaving many of my questions unanswered.
The romance was OK, not my favorite. I enjoy romances that explore deep conversations and speak about more permeant issues and this book only has one (a semi-decent conversation). The banter could have been better, more tension/yearning filled. After all, Wes was head over heels for Sloane since way before they gave into their feelings. Sloane is kind of in her own world, while Wes's world revolved around Sloane. I wanted more of a slow-burn spiral into each-other that was more passionate than what they actually had. Deeper conversations would have done this book more justice. Sloane wasn't really open with Wes and neither was he in regard to his issues with his dad. The third-break-up act was really unnecessary and more of a 'What/HUH' moment instead of 'WOW, OMG OK'. Would have been much better without it!
There were some cute moments that I really enjoyed: the migraine scene, Wes's protectiveness and vulnerability. While this book was just OK for me, I'm sure this will be a favorite for many!
Many thanks to NetGalley, Berkley Publishing Group and the author, Heather Frances for an early eARC!
Thank you to NetGalley and Berkley Publishing Group for the ARC in exchange for an honest review. All thoughts are my own.
I was initially drawn to the gorgeous cover and the very intriguing synopsis, so I was a little bit disappointed because my expectations were so high. Don't get me wrong, the romance was very cute so no complaints there, I just wish everything else was a little more exciting. There should be nothing more exciting than storm chasing so that part definitely fell flat for me. A large portion of the book was just them driving around and taking pictures of storms and while yes, it's easy to read about, it gets old pretty fast.
We only get Sloan's perspective which got a bit repetitive for me. Everything started to feel stale because we only get her point of view and I didn't really connect to her as a character. It would have been a breath of fresh air in my opinion if we were able to get Wes's point of view. I was much more interested in what was going on in his brain than anything else.
I was actually a fan of the third-act-breakup. I usually am if it's done well, I need the torment and the groveling and all that comes with it. So well done to the author for that part! I also deeply enjoyed the resolution and the especially the epilogue.
Chase Me If You Can is a charming, well paced, and heartfelt story that blew me away (because tornadoes, get it?) 🌪️
As a member of the Men-Who-Yearn Fan Club ™ I DEVOURED this book. Wes is just totally obsessed with Sloane! The chemistry and buildup between the two was delicious, especially with all the banter and flirty quips they were volleying around. 🤭 I literally cannot explain how much I adored Sloane and Wes’ dynamic!
Sloane is an eldest daughter and all that comes with that. Her struggles with her family and her parentification were handled so well. Wes comes off as a wild playboy, but his devotion to those he cares about is unmatched! As the story progressed you really get to see just how well they complement each other, even with their respective baggage.
As a midwestern girlie, I was a little nervous about the storm chasing aspects of this book. I used to watch smaller tornadoes from my porch as a kid, but when you see the destruction a massive storm can cause, it changes everything. I was worried it would only focus on the big, beautiful storms and not the reality of how those storms can impact communities. But everything was handled so beautifully. I unashamedly cried over Frances’ description of towns and volunteers coming together during a crisis. It turns out Heather Frances is a storm chaser herself, so I guess it makes sense that it feels so well researched and realistic!
There was a 3rd act breakup that I felt was actually very valid, but it was drawn out a bit too long for my liking. So while it wasn’t perfect, it was pretty darn close to it for me! The cover is gorgeous, the chemistry is striking⚡️, and I can’t recommend it enough!
••••••• As a girl from Tornado Alley, I’m excited to see if this book can make storm chasing seem less insane to me 😂 Thank you Berkley for gifting me this advance copy! 😍
This book was hella fun 😭🌪️ I loved it so much! I adore an enemies to lovers story that is based on competition, and what better competition than a photography contest where you take pictures during hurricane season ayeeee
“theeen it’s a rivals to lovers since there is a competition?” Not necessarily 👀 You can categorize it like that, but from page 1 you know that the “rivals to lovers” is one sided, and because of that I don’t really see it like that. Wes doesn’t really mind if Sloane wins, so YEP I’m sticking with enemies to lovers ✨‼️
Anywayyy Wes is literally a sexy cowboy storm chaser, and every time he said “darlin’” I legit melted 🫠🔥 I loved the plot and how the road trip of them sticking together for the season came about because who doesn’t love forced proximity? The pacing was good, and it was entertaining to see the messy parts of storm chasing like driving endless hours and eating wherever you can find food. Little details like that make the book more authentic for me.
One of the best parts of the entire book was the third-act breakup. Yes, we as romance readers are never big fans of this (pls this isn’t a spoiler either, don’t fight me on this 😂), but the way the author sets it up and follows through with it was so realistic. Nothing overly dramatic, but purposeful, and aghhh I have to say it was refreshing to read!!!
The only thing that took away the 5 star rating for me was the big move Sloane makes with her photography at the end. It was a bit cringy 😭 I do get that it was meant to embody female empowerment, but I think it was taken a bit too far FOR ME. Some readers might absolutely love it though!!
I recommend this series to those who love hurricane chasers 🌪️, road trips with the one you “hate”, and a good ol’ cowboy vibe mmc 🤠💖
tropes 🌪️ enemies to lovers 🌪️ only one bed 🌪️ forced proximity 🌪️ he falls first

I went into this one with pretty high expectations. The cover is gorgeous and the premise sounded so fun but I ended up feeling a little let down…
The romance itself was cute but was nothing amazing and I kept waiting for that deeper connection and spark. As for the rest, storm chasing should feel thrilling, but most of the book is just long stretches of driving and photographing storms, and it started to feel repetitive pretty quickly.
The story also feels a bit empty around the edges. We stay locked in Sloane’s perspective the entire time, and while that can work in some books, it made things feel a little flat here because there’s barely any side‑character presence or outside world to break up the rhythm. It’s mostly Sloane, Wes, and the road — again and again — and I never fully connected with her voice. I kept wishing we could slip into Wes’s head, or at least have more people, moments, or dynamics to give the story some texture. He felt like the more interesting half of the duo, and even a few chapters from him would’ve added so much depth.
On the other hand, there were some really sweet and fun moments throughout the book and reading about storm chasing was a nice change and added some interesting elements to the story. I will say that the epilogue was one of my favourite parts of the book!!
Overall, I did enjoy this story! It’s sweet and easy to sink into, I just wasn’t completely wowed by it. Still, a cute and enjoyable book for anyone looking for a romance with storm chasing thrown in there too!
Thank you to NetGalley and Berkley Publishing Group for the ARC in exchange for an honest review. All thoughts are my own.
Turns out reading about storm chasing isn’t as exciting as watching it in a movie.
I was really into this book at first, but it started to drag around 70% and I got super bored.
One issue was the pacing. They kiss around 20% to shoo away a girl that’s being clingy (who we literally never see again, which is kind of hilarious), and by 40% they’re basically a couple. While I loved seeing them get to know each other, the constant driving around and taking pictures eventually just got old.
The third act breakup was a total mess. Wes does something dumb and Sloane flat out refuses to hear him out. Her reaction felt so unfair. She took all her insecurities out on him even though he was great the entire book. Thinking back, there were so many instances where she was so mean and judgmental.
I wanted to give this 4 stars, but that unnecessary drama at the end turned me off so much.

✎ᝰ.┊ pre-read: It’s my birthday and I’m finally starting this cute lil summer romance! This is giving me major Twisters vibes, and I need that same mix of adrenaline and chemistry!!
⬫ ⬪ ⬫ Thank you to Netgalley and the publisher for the arc!
this story follows sloane michaels, who is a wedding photographer, but her true passion is chasing tornadoes every spring. she wants to win a big photography contest to prove she can be a professional landscape photographer and finally quit shooting weddings. however, she has a rival: wes talbot. wes is famous for being a reckless storm chaser, and he is also the person sloane most wants to beat in the contest. but one day wes gets into an accident, and even though they have been competitive rivals for ten years, sloane decides to let him join her for the rest of the storm season. she wants to win, but she wants to beat him while he’s at his best. as they travel together through dangerous storms, sloane starts to see a different side of wes. she realizes he isn’t just a rich, carefree flirt. soon, she discovers that the sparks flying between them are just as exciting and unpredictable as the storms they are chasing.
i really enjoyed the beginning of this book. i absolutely loved the chemistry between sloane and wes. it is a classic rivals-to-lovers story. since the book is told only from sloane’s point of view, we don’t get to see much of what wes is thinking. this makes it very sweet when you realize that he actually fell first and harder.
even though the book was fun, i felt like the pacing was off. at times, the story dragged on for too long, but then other parts felt like they happened way too quickly. the flow of the plot was a bit uneven. the third act breakup was also very very unnecessary here which took all the fun.
to be honest, it is not a bad book at all. especially for a debut novel. i did enjoy reading it, but i felt like there was still a lot missing to make it truly great. there is room for improvement, but it shows a lot of promise. i would absolutely recommend it if you are looking for a light, fun romance, as long as you don't mind a few pacing issues. it was a solid start for the author.

I ended up loving this storm chaser romance! This gave me Twisters vibes in the best way and I loved how the hero and heroine had to storm chase together after the hero's car gets destroyed by a storm. They are competing in a photography competition and the heroine is determined to beat him on skill alone, so she offers to share her car and chase together so that they have a fair shot at winning. The forced proximity was everything! And the hero is so into her! His selfies in the shower to show her how small the shower heads were? Him taking care of her when she gets sick!? Swooooon. I did not love the 3rd act breakup because of person preference (lack of trust on her part). BUT I still adored them together and couldn't recommend picking this book up enough!!

I had so much fun with this one. Somehow it made storm chasing feel exciting without drowning me in information, and by the end I was halfway convinced I needed to drop everything and go hunt tornadoes myself 🤣
One of my favorite things was Sloane. She is such a strong female character, and I loved watching her refuse to back down when people—especially certain men😒—made dismissive comments or questioned whether she belonged. She’s worked hard to earn respect in a male-dominated field, and she never lets anyone walk all over her. She knows exactly who she is, and I admired that so much.
And then there’s Wes. The human equivalent of a thunderstorm 😏😛 Laid-back, reckless, charming, constantly pushing buttons just because he can. 😭 Meanwhile Sloane is over here trying to maintain control of literally everything around her. Their personalities couldn’t be more opposite, which of course made the banter ridiculously entertaining. Every conversation felt charged. Every argument felt like it was carrying its own little lightning strike 😏⚡️
The longer I read, the more I found myself sitting there thinking, girl… this man is so obviously gone for you.
Once they’re forced into closer proximity, the tension absolutely takes off. What got me wasn’t even the bigger romantic moments—it was all the quiet ways Wes showed up for Sloane. The migraine scene absolutely melted me. 😭 The way he taped up the light coming through the hotel windows, helped take her hair down, and massaged her neck and shoulders because he knew she was hurting? 🥹 Those were the moments that got me. After spending so much of her life taking care of everyone else, seeing someone finally slow down and take care of her felt incredibly rewarding. 🙂↕️
One thing I really appreciated was how the story challenged Sloane’s assumptions about Wes. She spends years judging him based on the version she sees from the outside, and watching those walls slowly crack was one of the most satisfying parts of the book. I had a feeling from the beginning there was more going on beneath all the jokes and charm, and I loved seeing those layers unfold.
I also loved how they balanced each other. Wes reminded Sloane that life isn’t meant to be spent carrying everyone else’s burdens, while Sloane gave him someone who wasn’t afraid to call him out when he pushed things too far. They brought out the best in each other in a way that felt really natural.
My only complaints:
→ There were a few moments where I wished we got a little more emotional depth between them. I wanted some deeper conversations and a little more digging beneath the attraction. → The road-trip storm-chasing scenes were fun, but after a while I found myself wanting a few more moments that focused solely on them. → The third act breakup... Sloane was super immature imo. I somewhat understood, but the way Wes responded was like SUCH GREEN FLAG BEHAVIOR 😭 get over yourself girl
Still, that didn’t stop me from loving this book. 😝🫶🏼 By the time things started shifting between them, it honestly felt like all those years of bickering, tension, and button-pushing had been building toward one inevitable collision.
Fast-paced, fun, emotional, and full of chemistry. This was such an easy book to get lost in, and I loved watching Wes give Sloane the care and support she deserved after spending so long pouring herself into everyone else 😭🥹🫶🏼

brb on my way to rewatch twisters!!!
i INHALED this book - literally so bingeable in the best way possible. i think this is going to be such a perfect summer read, and it perfectly encapsulated the feeling and vibe of summer tornado chasing (and the movie twisters of course).
very done rival to lovers where they actually banter with each other (a lot of fun btw). i also will always eat up a romance where the MMC falls first and harder, and this was no exception. the way wes cares for sloane was so adorable and i loved all of the small moments between them where he showed her that not only did he pay attention to her, but he truly wanted to be there to take care of her. the migraine scene was PERFECT and had me giggling and kicking my feet.
i do wish we got a bit more of the actual storm/tornado chasing. this focuses a lot on photography, which certainly enjoyed, but i think i would have liked a bit more action. the side characters all felt extremely two dimensional, but it didn’t bother me too terribly. also, wes does something towards the end of the book that quite honestly irrritated the hell out of me (though i did appreciate how he actually gave her the space she asked for).
overall, LOVED this book and i highly recommend this one!!
also can we take a moment to appreciate this cover?? so so good.
This book is truly is for the girlies that were VERY annoyed that they didn’t kiss in Twisters (me).
This man is so ridiculously down bad. He’s cheeky and comes off a bit messy but in all the best ways. Not to mention the grovel. Boy does he know how to grovel!
The perfect blend of adventure, romance, and emotional depth (read: trauma).
The banter is top tier and the mmc is just…sigh…perfection.
Whats to love… - twisters but make it sexy AF - Caretaking - complicated family dynamics (mommy trauma) - Chronic Migraine Rep - Grade A banter - Action, adventure + road tripping - only one bed - honestly I could go on and on.
I was intrigued by this story even before this incredible cover existed—just from the synopsis! I haven’t read a plot like this before! The main characters are photographers and storm chasers. Sloane dreams of winning a contest and landing the cover of the prestigious Nature Shots magazine, but standing in her way is her longtime rival, “Wild Wes” Talbot. But when Wes gets into an accident and they end up in the same car, Sloane realizes he’s not who she thought he was.
This is an amazing debut! Heather Frances is a storm chaser herself, and it’s clear she knows what she’s writing about! It was so fresh, exciting, and informative—I could picture everything in my head like a movie! Heather gave us yet another perfect MMC! I fell in love with Wes; he cared so much for Sloane and helped her open up so that she could finally start putting herself first! The migraine scene with Sloane had me melting! And the banter and chemistry between them are incredible! You really have to read this yourself!
The author also touches on many important topics, like being a woman in a male-dominated field, self-sacrifice for others, and parent-child relationships. I devoured this book and now can’t wait for her new releases!

🎯 My Thoughts:
First: thank you to Lina for doing this as a buddy read and for understanding when I couldn’t put this book down and finished it super quick. Please check out her review.
This story was such a fun time for me. I appreciated Heather's ability to make the technical side of storm chasing feel fascinating...and somehow also hot. I could never be a storm chaser myself—too many nights in different hotel rooms, gas station meals, and, you know, being outside—but I do love photography, and Heather's descriptions put me right out in the field with Wes and Sloane. Her prose allowed me to visualize every color rolling across the sky.
I also loved the push and pull between Sloane and Wes. It never felt mean or frustrating, and I appreciated that it wasn't immediately obvious where they stood with each other, which kept me invested. Another thing I enjoyed was Sloane's family storyline. Her relationship with her brothers and mother introduced a different kind of storm into her life and gave the romance more emotional depth. Having the story told solely through Sloane's POV made Wes even more intriguing because you get to unravel him alongside her. And the way that man takes care of her? Yes, please.
The only two things that kept this from being a full five stars were pretty minor. I wish the other two photographers (both of the MCs friends who are engaged to each other) had played a larger role beyond acting as an external force pushing Wes and Sloane together. And while I understand Wes is supposed to be ridiculously attractive, the repeated emphasis on just how hot he was occasionally made me roll my eyes. Thankfully, it wasn't overdone enough to pull me out of the story.
I also have to give this book credit for something I wasn't expecting: I actually enjoyed the third-act conflict, which is incredibly rare for me. While the WHY part of it was a bit frustrating, the resolution felt earned, and it worked. Maybe I'm a little biased because this book also helped pull me out of a reading slump, but either way, I had such a great time with it.

A moment for the cover... because damn it's pretty!
I really enjoyed this book and managed to get through it in just under a day! After reading In Stormy Weather, I'm definitely in my storm chaser era!
I will say that In Stormy Weather managed to make the storm-chasing aspect feel a little more natural and seamless, whereas at times I found it difficult to follow in Chase Me If You Can. I think some tighter editing and a few language tweaks could have made it easier to grasp. A lot of the geography and road names also went over my head, but I think that's probably something American readers would appreciate more.
That said, I found the story really cute. I loved the photo competition, the relationship between Wes and Sloane and the storm chasing (obviously!). Wes and Sloane's relationship felt incredibly natural, and I really enjoyed watching their relationship develop. Plus, I loved the banter between them in the earlier chapters. I love a man who pines for years! I do wish we'd had a little more from the side characters, but I enjoyed the story enough that it wasn't a dealbreaker for me.
This wasn't quite a 5-star read for a couple of reasons just because I felt the writing was a little choppy at times, especially in the beginning but improved a lot towards the end of the book! And I wish the storm-chasing elements had been written better.
I had a great time with this book and would definitely recommend it, especially if you're craving a storm chaser book after Chelsea Curto!
I received an advanced reading copy for free through NetGalley, and I am leaving this review voluntarily.
Thank you NetGalley, Berkley & Heather Frances for the opportunity to read this arc. Review will be posted at a later date! 3.5 stars
I loved the premise of this book and enjoyed reading about storm chasing. If you’re into that, there’s a ton of information as the plot revolves around that quite a bit with romance on the side.
The romance was cute and there was a lot of talk about childhood trauma/neglect on both sides. This clearly altered both of their personalities and we got to see how. I could NOT stand Sloane by the end. She clearly needed therapy and to work through her own issues. It was so painful to see how she treated Wes, like Sloane you are NOT your mother and Wes is not one of your mother’s boyfriends. I get why she acted like that, but it was just not necessarily enjoyable to read. Especially when Wes has his own mess going on.
My one issue with this is the pacing. The book started off good but it was just too long. We have the same thing occurring throughout the book that it started to feel super repetitive. It was still good though!
Overall, I would definitely recommend reading. It’s a quick and easy read.
After watching Twisters, I got to know about storm chasers. I thought it was an interesting concept to read a romance book about it.
Sloane is a wedding photographer but each year she takes time off work for six weeks to chase and photograph storms with her friends. That includes Wes, who is known to be reckless and kind of famous for his storm photography.
The main trope in the book is enemies to lovers but it was apparent from the beginning that it was one sided. Wes is the definition of a man who yearns. He fell first and fell harder. Sloane was judgmental and dismissive of Wes initially, based on his public persona. I loved how Wes was able to get Sloane to open up and admit to herself how much she has been struggling with taking on so many responsibilities. I really felt bad for Sloan having to deal with the family issues involving her mother and siblings.
The book also effectively portrays the challenges women face in male-dominated fields. Sloan’s fight for recognition and respect among her male colleagues was depicted with striking realism.
This book was action packed and fast paced, with plenty of tender and emotional moments between the main characters.
Thank you Berkley Publishing Group for the ARC. All opinions expressed are my own.

Thank you so much to Berkley and NetGalley for the opportunity to read and review Chase Me If You Can!
Chase Me if You Can was such a fun debut novel! I spent so much of this book kicking my feet, giggling, and blushing over Wes and Sloane. I also spent more time crying over bits and pieces of this story than I think Heather probably intended, but to be seen and taken care of is to be loved. Because I related so closely to Sloane, her internal battles really struck home for me.
Sloane is the oldest daughter who has spent her entire life filling the shoes of her mother, a woman who was always out and about and putting herself before her children. Now, as an adult, Sloane is not only taking care of her mother and her constant “damsel in distress” act, but also running her wedding photography business. She’s grown up constantly filling everyone else’s cup, and because of that, she doesn’t know how to fill her own or let herself be taken care of.
For six weeks every year, Sloane takes time for herself to go storm chasing, and this year she has a mission. Nature Shots announces a cover contest, and Sloane knows this could be her big break. Winning would mean breaking into a male-dominated field and finally being taken seriously. That is, until Wes comes into the picture and is quite literally yearning for Sloane to let him in. When storm season arrives and Wes wrecks his truck, Sloane invites him to join her on the trip to get the shot of her career.
Though I would have loved to see this story play out from both Wes and Sloane’s POVs, there was something really special about only having Sloane’s. Leaving Wes and his thoughts open-ended at times kept me constantly questioning his intentions and wondering if he would slip back into his “Wild Wes” persona.
Sloane’s character was so beautifully complicated, and we get to watch her work through the anxieties of letting Wes get close and lowering the walls she’s kept up for so long. As someone who has been in a similar situation, struggling to accept care from others while constantly pouring into everyone else’s cup, I felt like I was looking in a mirror, hence all the tears I was shedding! I could feel everything Sloane was feeling. Her character was expertly written, and I was rooting for her from page one all the way to the very last page of Chase Me if You Can.
This book was both spicy and fun! I’d say it lands right in the middle, not overly spicy, but just enough to keep me satisfied. The chemistry and passion between these two are as charged as all the storms and tornadoes they’re chasing. And let’s talk about the “spicy photography” scene. I was kicking my feet and giggling like a teenage girl.
Overall, Chase Me if You Can was such a fun, spicy, and important debut novel. I’m already so excited to see what Heather Frances has up her sleeve next. I truly can’t sing enough praises for this book, and I already know it’s going to be one I’ll be thinking about for a long, long time! ✨📖🌪️
wound tending AND migraine tending scenes? so spoiled in the romance realm right now.
chase me if you can? yeah, he definitely did (in the not scary way). sloane and wes have great chemistry as two people who've orbited around each other for a decade. to the point that when one moves the other mirrors it unintentionally. seeing that manifest into a real friendship and working relationship of convenience was excellent.
i typically don't enjoy seeing a couple get together 'too early' in the story because the fun is in the chase amirite? this gave us the best of both. sloane and wes both hide behind their masks. they never want to ask anyone for help - they're always 'okay'. i truly enjoyed reading about these two life-long cardholders of the 'burdened and self-deprecating' club find safety and home in each other in the middle of storm and tornado season.
wes is the least nonchalant man in the world. my guy was the type to talk his friends' ears off about a simple shoulder pat given to him years ago. this is the kind of yearner-ism men should make part of their belief system.
he also messes up big time BUT he's also very well versed in the groveling department. i'm telling you this man took classes at The Scholl of Good Men.
that epilogue was diabolical and i needed more. how could you do this me, heather frances?
this was such a fun read during the stormiest weekend of the year!
In 2024 I had one of the best movie going experiences in watching Twisters. I had seen the 90s movie but this one…this one was *the* one! So fun and sexy! But it ended too soon! I needed more! I needed more romance and thrills. Alas, it came and went, but an obsession was born. Give me romance in the midst of high danger! Enter Chase Me If You Can. Exhilarating, sexy, romantic, heart-stopping, and just an absolute thrill. This played better than any movie. I loved getting to know our protagonist Sloane and watch her chase her dreams and watch a swoony man chase her. 4.5
This is the story of Sloane, a storm chaser and wedding photographer. When a prestigious nature magazine announces a cover contest, Sloane is eager to catch the best shot at her chance to win. She excels at anticipating storms but doesn’t anticipate Wes, the thorn at her side (or is heee?!), joining her on her ride to the storms when his ride fails. A decade long frenemy-ship is suddenly in very close quarters, and you know what happens when forced proximity comes into play. Fireworks, or in this case, a wild storm explodes!
Swooons! It’s clear as day to everyone but Sloane that Wes is wild about her. But I don’t fault Sloane for not quite seeing it. Wes is at times tightly wound. Even once these two get closer and Sloane opens up about her life, frustrations, and goals, Wes remains a bit tight-lipped. So you can’t fault a girl for not seeing the obvious. Wes may be closed off in some things concerning his life, but god his heart is wide open for Sloane. I love how he so proactively supports and believes her in, even as they compete for the contest, he continuously uplifts her talent and skill. He has her back, that said, his communication skills are definitely a work in progress. Because he also earns Sloane’s trust and that’s a precious thing, a precious thing she is quick to rescind if compromised. And those lacking communication skills of Wes? Yeah, let’s just say, boy is in danger! But hey, I’m getting ahead of myself. What’s a stormy romance without some lightning angst? I would say angst is relatively light minus the final act, but if you know me, you know I eat up every crumb of angst. It’s not here in spades, but there’s just enough to make me happy, haha!
I adore the romance, it owns me entirely. But I think Sloane owns just a bit more of me. This is her story afterall. And she is why books will always own a bit more of my heart over movies. You can’t do a deep dive into a character in a movie like you can in books. In books we walk in our protagonist’s shoes and understand them as if they were family, friend, or our very self. And I understood Sloane. Someone who has been parentified by an unreliable mother. She had a big hand raising her brothers and in a very real way her mother. A mother who is incapable of handling things without Sloane, who in turn will begrudgingly but ultimately drop everything to help. She puts others first constantly, and much of this journey is her having to let that go and learn to place herself first. I think that’s a big part why she strives to win that contest, it’s *hers*. A dream that’s wholly for herself. A dream she deserves to make true. I admired Sloane for her selflessness but I loved her for how she learned to place herself first.
I loved this book so much! I will say a bit past halfway I felt the narrative slowed a bit and scenes ended up feeling a touch repetitive. I realize that’s the name of the game of being on the road but my attention wavered a bit. Not enough to truly distract me though! Especially with a third act break up looming, something I know some aren’t fans of but I secretly love! I’d say the third act breakup mostly works, but I did think reconciliation should have happened a touch sooner. But that brings me back to how precious trust is, lose it and all bets are off, and I can’t truly fault Sloane for taking her time to heal from that. Even if it leaves one (aka me!) a bit impatient to get to healing, haha! But gosh, regardless of the very minor stumbles, my love never wavered for this book.
I suddenly want to become a storm chaser, give me all the thrills! This is a chase you won’t want to miss!
Thank you Berkley Romance and NetGalley for this complimentary eARC, I leave this honest review voluntarily.
Chase Me If You Can is such a fun debut romance! This cover had my attention from the very first time I saw it and I could not wait to dive into the book once I saw the tropes too. Rival storm chasers, forced proximity (traveling together), he falls first. I really enjoyed this one and I’m excited for what the author writes next!
Sloane and Wes have been in the same circle for a while, they’re both storm chasers and nature photographers (she also works as a wedding photog when it’s not storm season) who live and work around the same storms. This storm season, Sloane really wants to win the photography contest for a weather magazine, not only to be the first woman photographer they’ve featured on the cover, but also to just get that perfect shot Wes has won before, and Sloane would love to win over him of course too. When his car breaks down in the height of storm season, she finds herself offering to share her ride with Wes and the tension and chemistry kicks into high gear as they storm chase right alongside together!
I really liked this one. We do only get Sloane’s POV so I would have enjoyed his as well. There were times they do get into deeper convos together of sharing their lives, pasts, etc as they’re roadtripping/traveling together and we are told about it happening but I would have enjoyed those convos on page. I found myself really reaching for more morsels of moments between them. It felt very quick and easy once they do fall for one another, well more-so her as he was already into her when the story began. I think I needed a bit more to believe that falling for me, which could have helped with more on-the-page building or tension moments between them or even his POV. They do move into serious quickly and then the 3rd act breakup was a bit frustrating, but thankfully how it was handled after went fine. We do get migraine rep and caretaking!
Overall I think this was a fun one and I am excited for the future of what this author writes since this was a debut. The storm chasing aspect was great and them being photographers in the midst of it all too was exciting. The author’s note at the beginning was so fun sharing her own experience of storm chasing too.
I received an ARC from the publisher, all thoughts in this review are my own.
I’ve been in a weird reading funk lately - not wanting anything too heavy - and this book had no problem keeping my attention
Wes was an absolute TREAT. I loved everything about him. & for the record - I don’t think he did anything wrong!!!!
*SPOILERS FROM HERE ON OUT* - Wes got game - Sloane needs to be in therapy - It’s always a little tough for me when FMC’s are polar opposites to me because I often find myself getting really frustrated with them. In this case - Sloane is super stubborn and will cut people off instead of actually communicating. Or at least that’s the case with everyone EXCEPT her terrible mother & useless brothers. That juxtaposition was a little tough for me to stomach if I’m honest. I get where her head was at, but as a self proclaimed expert communicator - it pissed me off lolllll - LUCKILY that situation was very short lived and we got right back to the warm & fuzzy story pretty quickly - This story was really well written & was so easy to read. I’d sit down to read a chapter and before I realize it, I’d be 25% further
Overall REALLY enjoyed this story & will definitely read this authors future books!
4.5 stars (honestly only reason not 5 is bc I’m still annoyed with the FMC hahahah)

4.5 stars but rounding up for goodreads. I loved this book. The first weather book I’ve really enjoyed. Two storm chasers. Giving twister vibes. And the author is a storm chaser herself. So the book is extremely well written and not like some authors do. Trying to convince the reader they know meteorology terms but just dumping jargon in the book. I loved it. The banter was fun. The communication was healthy. It was a fun read! Recommended it to all my meteorologist friends!
This might be my favourite romance I've ever read. I read Chase Me if You Can over a day and a half, only begrudgingly stopping to sleep. I was hooked right from the start with Heather Frances's startling intro about lightning, and then I loved the way we meet "Wild Wes," clearly invested in Sloane even as he teases her at a wedding. We can see how much he wants her to be out in the field, chasing storms with him, even as Sloane just wants him gone.
As the story progresses, we get incredible storm chase scenes that I couldn't look away from, even just in text, meaningful relationships and friendships as a protective bubble from the sexism that Sloane faces as a female chaser, and a slightly heartbreaking and personal journey of a parentified eldest daughter still stuck in the patterns of taking care of her mother and younger brothers. These different elements weave together seamlessly as Sloane fights for her own happy place—time away from photographing weddings and managing her family to shoot storms instead—and for a chance to be the first female photographer ever on the cover of a nature magazine.
As readers, we can see from the start that there's more to Wes than Sloane thinks, even if he periodically confirms her beliefs by acting exactly like the reckless, thoughtless bro-dude she views him as. Their dynamic is electric right from the start, and as they are forced to spend more time together, we—and Sloane—see a deeper, more complicated side to him that shows how he was always, in fact, exactly the right match for her, with just a little growth and character development required, as we see towards the end.
Heather Frances's story is unusual and captivating, her descriptions of nature and storms are stunning, her characters and their relationships are entirely endearing, and her writing itself is absolutely superb.
I would recommend this book to absolutely every romance reader. You do not want to miss this book when it comes out in June 2026, and I can't wait for you all to get swept away alongside me.
