Life with a Sprinkle of Glitter

THIS IS MY FIRST EVER OFFICIAL BOOK! Aloha Sprinklerinos! Imagine you are in one of those glorious vintage shops where every surface is laden with treasure. Cut glass, pill boxes, old cameras, pendants, chests of drawers and stacks and stacks of books. This book is like that. Each chapter is one of those gem encrusted tins that you can open, peep inside and enjoy. You can either methodically wander the entire shop, looking at each individual item in order, or, you can dance around with wild abandon, opening and closing whatever you like, whenever you like. You can take in tiny bits of it at a time or you can devour it all in one go. I don't mind. I don't mind how you go about it; all that matters to me is that you take something from it. Divided into four sections: Glitz, Create, Need to Knows and All About Love, you'll find all my little tips and tricks, stories and insights and nuggets of advice. I want you to walk away from this book feeling uplifted. I want you to feel as though you are equipped to deal with something in your life and deal with it in the best possible, positive way. I want to show you how I find so much joy and enrichment in my life and how you can do it too, with just a Sprinkle of Glitter...Toodlepip! Xxx

Please, if you're thinking about buying this book DON'T. It's a glorified magazine and you would probably get more enjoyment from an issue of Cosmo than you would from this. (Sorry if that's too harsh but its my opinion). Check out my full review over on my blog --> http://lebookchronicles.weebly.com

This is not the kind of book I would usually read, nor is it the sort of thing I would ever imagine enjoying, but I found I really did. Given my general lack of interest in most things beauty-related it is not something I would usually recommend, but for anyone who is already familiar with Louise and her blog/YT channel it is a delightful jaunt through all of the lovely things we have all come to expect from her. Her chipper personality and (at times self-deprecating but nonetheless charming) sense of humour shines through everything she has written and it is clear that she cares deeply about the messages she conveys: accepting and loving yourself, spreading kindness and positivity everywhere and to everyone, and ultimately choosing to live a happy and fulfilled life regardless of circumstance. I think of her youtube channel as comfort watching, something to indulge in when I just want to be able to focus on the little things that make life happy, and this book is a great extension of that. There were of course sections I disagreed with or found less relevant to my life - it's obvious that it's aimed at her core demographic, most of whom are much younger than I am - but I think if every 13 year old were given a copy of this to read I like to think they would be a little better equipped to deal with the monstrosity that can be adolescence. Kindness is a criminally underrated quality and it is evident from her book (and the rest of her work) that Louise really does live all of the affirmative statements that we too often pass off as banal platitudes.

With regard to flying:

On arrival, to achieve that stylish celebrity-at-airport look, throw everything into your giant bag (don't have things hanging out or clutched in your hands, think chic), don your oversized sunglasses or drape your scarf round your shoulders and walk tall. You are a seasoned jet-setter after all!

Yeah... I'm not sure I could read this book with any kind of seriousness...

Source: I own this book.
Cost: £6.49 from Amazon

I can't give a synopsis for this book really other than it is a book filled with loveliness.

I have been so excited to get my hands on this book ever since Louise (Sprinkleofglitter on Youtube) announced it. It's been on preorder for far too long in my honest opinion! But when I got to hold my physical copy in my hands I knew straight away how beautifully it would sit on my shelves. (Also that it would be a very good book too)

Firstly, the cover is so pretty. Like aesthetically, this is a very pleasing book inside and out. Each page is decorated with colour and a few picture scattered throughout but not enough to make it a picture book and take away from what the words are trying to convey to the reader. It's a very nicely designed book, I like that a lot.

Despite some of the chapters in this book talking about a few experiences I'm yet to go through like buying a house and going to university (soon, this is happening soon) and having a baby, I still absorbed everything! It's so clear that Louise wrote this book with love and passion, that every word is something that she wants to tell her viewers and readers no matter what stage they're at in their journey.

Throughout this book, there are little quote pages that part of me wants to cut out and stick on school binders and all over my walls and I might every tattoo a couple on my forehead...Jokes of course, but the advice is really decent! It's odd to try and explain what I mean here, but when I finished reading it, I almost felt at ease. Like for the first time, in a long time, I didn't panic about the future. I'm back to panic mode now, but this book gave me some sound advice for certain aspects of my time and my life.

Please write another one to help me with the rest, thanks!

I've watched sprinkleofglitter videos for a while, coming on almost five years now starting to watch her videos close to the beginning of her channel. But to 13 year old me, she was simply just another youtuber I used to pass the time. Now at 18, her channel is almost like a beacon of happiness. I'm the kind of person that will mother a person when they're sad until they feel okay again and when I'm sad I just watch her videos (along with some other youtubers) and that's what makes me feel better. I don't feel as upset about everything for the 5-15 minutes I watch a video on youtube.

Hopefully one day, when I've got my own house and my own family I can keep this book as a sort of reminder that no matter how sad you are 18, things have such a chance of getting better. I'm really holding that mantra over my life!

SORRY I'M ALL CHEESY TONIGHT. I'LL BE BACK TO CASUAL CONNIE SOON.

This book was originally reviewed on my blog A Blonde Librarian

I've always been a fan of Louise's Youtube channel - I've been watching her videos for a few years now, so when I heard that she was bringing out a book, I knew that I was going to buy it. Life With a Sprinkle of Glitter by Louise Pentland is a non-fiction, lifestyle, personal, how-to, advice etc book that isn't too far away in genre from most of the other 'Youtuber' books that came out this year - but I liked this one better.

Louise covers a really broad range of topics in the book - something that keeps it interesting and refreshing. Each 'big' chapter is split down into smaller sections that can be read a bit at a time or all at once. I found them to be the perfect bitesize pieces to read a bit of each night. From makeup, safety and confidence, to dating, home décor and parenting - there is something for literally each person who reads it.

The writing style is very 'Louise' - you can almost hear her speaking the words. The book is very easy to read - it's as if you are having a conversation of sorts, rather than just reading some words on a page. The text flows nicely, isn't too heavy, and forms a lovely light read.

The content of the book is definitely an extension of Louise's channel, with lots of topics to suit everyone - and I really enjoyed that.

I also really enjoyed the design of the book. Every single page was different. There were lots of bright, vibrant images. The text is displayed in various ways - and I found the entire thing to be very appealing and clever. You aren't just reading page after page of text - it's split up and arranged in so many different ways that your eyes never get bored. One thing I loved was the abundance of inspiring quotes and advice littered throughout the book. Little positive mantras that we could all do well to remember in our everyday life.

Louise is someone who cheers me up when I watch her videos. Her personality is very bubbly, light and positive and she cherishes all things pretty, sweet and happy. But at the same time, Louise is very real. She is a mother, a friend, a businesswoman, a house-keeper (and was actually going through a split in her marriage when she wrote this) - she lets us know that it's ok not to be ok sometimes. That we can't be perfect all the time, and that we are only human. All of these things are reasons why I love Louise's channel and all of these things come across in his book.

My favourite parts of the book had to be any of Louise's personal stories or anecdotes (seriously - the chapter on her dating disasters almost made me spit out my cup of tea in a fit of giggles...read it!). Reading about things that she has personally gone through made her even more relatable.

Overall

I thoroughly enjoyed this book. I have to say that on some very tiny occasions throughout - it did come across as a little too precious - a little too twee - and there were one-too-many self indulgent nods....mainly to promote the book....that chances are you had probably bought if you were reading it, which made the promotions a little pointless???

All in all though, this was a great little read, and one that I will recommend - definitely to fans of Louise, but even if you aren't. You can definitely hear Louise's voice throughout - it's HER book and you can really feel that. The fact that this felt more unique in both design and content, and more personal with the stories etc - made this to be one of the better Youtuber books that has come out recently IMO.

I didn't expect too much from this book considering the "oh another YouTuber thinking they can write" mindset I seem to spend a lot of time in. But as with Girl Online, I was pleasantly surprised by Life With A Sprinkle Of Glitter! I laughed and cried with happiness several times and experienced goosebumps on more than one occasion. And the little thank you to the reader at the end made me cry as well for some reason; it was just very sweet and I'm obviously very hormonal or something right now. Anyway, tears aside, I loved every second of reading this book and will take so much away from it. And I will absolutely return to it whenever I feel like I'm losing sense of the world.

Here's the thing: this is a 2016 book. I started it that year and while I didn't think I would read it in one sitting, I also didn't quite anticipate that it would take me five years to finally finish it. I still occasionally like Louise's Instagram posts and smile at her children (damn, was it awkward to read some of the family stuff in this when I know how her situation will change in the years after that), but five years ago I was a fan. Now I'm not anymore, simple as that, so this book isn't for me, but I still had a fun time every time I picked it up. It's cute and nicely written, very easy to read a few pages now and then and extremely pretty still.

It was such a great read and I was really glad that it wasn't exclusively aimed at the pre-teen/early teens demographic. With myself being nineteen and finding that Zoe's book was aimed a bit more towards young teens I was really glad and really enjoyed the book and I think my mum would also enjoy it especially the `Bonding With Baby´ chapter as it will bring all her mummy feels back to the surface :)

This book looked cute and promising when I picked it up on a recent shopping trip. It is basically a 17 magazine parading as a book, and its intended audience appears to be teenagers despite the fact that the author offers parenting tips. The book assumed basically no life experience in its reader, explaining what a spa is, what a dinner party is, and advising that fairy lights be used liberally as a decorating scheme. Not much of use here to adults.

First, let's just say I am a huge fan of Louise. I truly did enjoy this book, however I feel like the target age group for the book is younger (teens and tweens) than I had hoped. I don't feel like there's much here that hasn't been covered in Louise's videos, however it's pleasantly positive light reading.

Have no idea how this book managed to get published. It was like she didn't know who her audience was! One minute it's really simple like for teenagers, the next minute were talking babies and marriage!?! I didn't enjoy this at all.

I did love the glitter on the cover though!

As soon as Louise announced she was coming out with a lifestyle book, I immediately grabbed my credit card and computer. (I've been a casual fan of hers for a while now.) Awaiting the release of this book, I had hoped this would be a YouTube book more geared towards the older generation. Louise is in her early thirties and has a daughter, so I was hoping she'd write a book geared towards her age range to my age group (mid twenties). Which, never usually gets touched upon whenever a famous YouTuber comes out with a book. You always see books geared towards tweens and early teens, so I had a small glimmer of hope that Louise would touch upon that older crowd. As I'm twenty two and don't need a book on how to kiss boys or survive school. It took an arm and a leg to even get my copy of Louise's book on my doorstep. (Too long to even explain here) but once I was able to sit down and read it, I realized that it wasn't as great as I'd hoped. While I enjoyed the gorgeous cover, and colorful pages I felt as though the writing wasn't outstanding, and enough to keep me interested in what she was even writing about at times. I almost felt at times the writing was a bit patronizing and "now I think you should do this, OKAY?" I'm probably not explaining myself well on that part, but I merely felt as though it was definitely written at times for a more childish and tween audience who almost needed that kind of guidance and push to do whatever it was she wrote about. I'm not exactly the most girly person out there, so that could have been a contributing factor in my case. Some of the DIY stuff was cute, but there were quite a few things I felt like I didn't necessarily need tips on. I also felt like it was just a bit messy at times as to WHO exactly her book was geared towards. She spoke about buying a house in one chapter, and how to go shopping, and stay safe online in two other chapters. I felt like the amount of adult like stuff that was written was very scattered and slim. Whereas the more middle school aged to early high school stuff was in almost every chapter. Or at least felt like it was with her writing style. Overall, if I was around 13-17 years old again this book would have been perfect for me. And it probably is for most of her audience whom I think are still around that age. I commend her for writing this though, I'm sure it'll help teens going through the awful school years.

Life With A Sprinkle Of Glitter is like an all-round guide to life by YouTuber Louise Pentland, a.k.a. Sprinkleofglitter. I don't think I've actually seen more than three of Louise's YouTube videos in the past as I only really use YouTube to watch music videos, but I've heard of her from around Twitter and when I came across her book the other day, the blurb sounded so positive and lovely so I thought I'd give it a try.

Life With A Sprinkle Of Glitter is divided up into sections on different areas of life such as body confidence and travelling tips. Louise's writing is so down-to-earth, friendly and at times, hilarious. I found myself giggling over her dating disasters and relating to embarrassments. Although the book covers a wide-range of areas from bullying to baby care tips, I think this book would be more suitable for a teenage audience - I personally found a lot of the advice to be a bit self-explanatory (I'm 23) but I'm sure as a teenager I would have found these tips very useful. So if you're looking for a gift for a teenager in your life, this could be a very good choice!

The book also gets an extra star for it's b-e-a-utiful presentation (I'm pretty much a magpie). From it's glossy pages, gorgeous endpapers and bright pink ribbon marker - this book is dazzling from cover to cover. A lot of thought has clearly gone into the presentation of this book which makes it that much more enjoyable to read.

I also wanted to address some criticism I've seen online about Louise's position as a YouTuber in her ability to be giving advice. I think that misses the point of this book. The author isn't claiming to be an expert on life, but just someone who has already been through a lot and wants to pass on her advice to help younger people make better and more informed decisions. To me personally it very much reads as an older sister giving her younger sisters advice.

Again, like Zoella's Girl Online, I think I'm outside the target market for this book but I still very much enjoyed reading it. I'm all for any book that promotes positivity, happiness and self-confidence.

Louise Pentland is leading a happy life and in her book Life With a Sprinkle of Glitter she gives her readers a lot of useful tips and tricks. It's a book you can read from beginning to end or you can open it at random and read something that interests you at a certain moment. Every page has a different design, so it's also a joy to look at. There's a lot of good advice for young girls, which makes this a perfect reference book with a sprinkle of glitter.

Louise Pentland shows that everyone can achieve a certain level of happiness. It isn't something that just happens, you can make it happen. I'm all for being as happy as possible, so I was curious to see what Louise would recommend her readers. I loved how every chapter of this guidebook has its own theme and styling. I think the book is especially suitable for young girls as there's a lot of great first time advice. For example on how to throw a good party, how to set up a home, how to network, etc. Louise is like a big, caring sister who is always there to give advice. She's honest about herself, she describes her fears and her mistakes as well as her successes.

I like the glitter aspect and being happy is indeed important, so I like the idea to turn it into a book. The advice is brief and not very deep, but that also wouldn't be fitting. I think it's all just right. I can see that Louise has given everything she's written about a lot of thought. I also love the designs and the gorgeous photos. It's like reading a scrapbook or diary instead of a regular book. I think Louise Pentland has written a wonderful and fun first book.

Yeah, okay, so, here's the thing: like Louise Pentland. Granted, I think she, and the bulk of her YouTuber friends are a little out of touch with most people's realities. BUT I think she seems chipper and fun. Her style and makeup are cool and she seems like she's be a good friend.

So, I like Louise. And I love a good memoir. So I was looking forward to reading her book. I was hoping for cute DIY projects, fashion tips, and mini-makeup-tutorials sprinkled in to funny stories about growing up, falling in love, becoming a mother, and making her way on the internet. I didn't expect it to be phenomenal, but I expected it to be fun.

Unfortunately, it was pretty disappointing. There were some tidbits of personal stories and vague outlines of projects, but, predominantly it was a slew of cliches and poorly written observations. The tone is overly casual--at times almost incoherent in it's conversational narration.

I will say, it's a very pretty book. AND, despite being displeased, I do still believe in Louise's ability to some day write a book that I do enjoy.

I'm forever buying the "YouTuber" books. I'm not sure why because they're clearly not targeted towards somebody of my age, but curiosity always gets the better of me. Life with a Sprinkle of Glitter was no different.

Although I like that Louise shares life tips for all areas of life, including bonding with your child, which isn't something I've seen until now, I still felt it was written for a much younger age bracket, in which case I'm not really sure how that topic was relevant.

I'm not the biggest fan of Louise's writing style, and as a result found my mind drifting off elsewhere a lot of the time.

I'll learn my lesson with the YouTuber books eventually! There's only one that I've genuinely enjoyed so far, and that was Tyler Oakley's book, Binge. The key being that I felt his book was unapologetically him. Louise's book, amongst all the other YouTuber books apart from Tyler's that I've read so far just haven't felt real enough for me.

4.5 stars. I've followed Louise's channel and blog since early 2012 so it's very exciting to see her bringing out her own book. Her book is a reflection of the genuine personality and quirkiness she presents in her videos. Even though a lot of the YouTuber books are marketed at YA, Louise really included a wide range of content for a varied age group, to match her overall audience which I liked. Her big section on kindness and positivity was my favourite but this is such a sparkly, positive, uplifting book. Perfect for women of any age.

Very very well written Louise, I am so proud. This isn't easy to read at once since it covers multiple topics but it's fun to read over time. I love how Louise gave tips and tricks about several topics and included her personal experiences. The best part of that was how she balanced them both. Usually there is more of one than the other. For example, some authors focus more on personal experiences than tips and tricks or vice versa. I am not saying there is anything wrong with that but a balance is nice once in awhile. Really enjoyed this and would definitely recommend to others.

This is such an inspirational, funny and enjoyable book! The pages are all so beautifully laid out with great colour schemes. It was easy to read and I found it easy to imagine Louise saying the words to me, it was very cool. The topics that Louise covers in this book were so helpful and I will remember a lot of the tips, tricks and quotes that she wrote about! I highly recommend this book, especially to anyone who enjoys watching any of Louise's videos.

I wanted to like this more than I did; the author seems like someone who I would genuinely adore in real life as she was so authentic and so charmingly earnest and kind feeling. The book just oozed sincere and sweet. I think part of my struggle arose out of both an overly sugar filled approach to life, but moreover, I felt like the book was all over the place and had no center. I couldn't decide if it was for adults or pre-teens, or those in college. It covered so many topics and life aspects that it ended up feeling like it was stream of conscious or a desire to cram life lessons and wisdom alongside bits of fancy on everything from a first kiss to being a mother to rainbow crayons and best travel and business tips to bodily self acceptance, onlife security to face care and education and setting up a home. From highly personal memoir to tips on crafts to a discussion of YouTube video creation, I couldn't quite discern how it all fit together other than perhaps this woman's personality, which I'm guessing may come through better as her videos than in book format.

1.5 stars rounded up. I got this book in 2016 back when it came out, forgot about it, picked it up years later and read half of it, and then forgot all about it again. I recently picked it back up and decided to finish it. It was... not good. What was probably cute when it was written was cringey now, and much of it erred on the side of toxic positivity. I had wanted this to be more of a memoir but it felt like she was telling a very watered down version of her life story to a group of small children, and every story had to have a lesson built in. I used to really enjoy watching Louise's videos but reading this book was not enjoyable at all. I only finished it out of obligation since I'd already read a good bit of it - luckily it was at least quick to get through.

This is a cute book. I didn't know her when I first started this book. I picked it up because of the beautiful cover. To me, this book is like a magazine. Cute pictures, lovely writing, and good paper quality. However, I didn't gain anything from this book. I keep wondering what is the targeted audience for this book? Teenagers I believe, or her fans. It's a cute book to read when you have nothing to do and just want to relax your brain. Like I said, a magazine.

The prettiest waste of paper I've ever laid eyes on.. the hardback is beautifully designed but full of lame ramblings from it's author, an "influencer" I've never heard of, who merely seems intent on convincing themselves that they are amazingg!! The craft "projects" are rubbish, the "advice" is rubbish. Glad I only paid 20cents for this at the secondhand store.. but even then wasn't worth the read.

This is a lovely colourful book that I wish I'd had when I was a teenager! Full of lots of everyday life that you can really relate to. It's one of those books that you can just pick up and flick through to the parts you want easily and as often as you want. It's set out a bit like a fun , fact filled diary, and I will pass it on to my teenage daughters as i think they'd really like it and take inspiration from it. Not my usual read , but im glad I gave it a go.

This book again was brilliant. I'm glad I read it early because I have learnt a lot from it. I feel like Louise sounded like my Mum in this book, and not in a bad way, which I think really benefited. This is great for if you need some girl help-or even boy help! Please read this if you are stepping into the wrong direction.
