okay.. 2.5 stars
It’s not that this was bad, it wasn’t at all. I just couldn’t really get into the characters and the plot and I’m not sure why. The premise is interesting if Cy having to return to Chicago after being done wrong for years by her ain’t ish boyfriend, and Kenyatta having to take over his family’s criminal underworld business, but I think there was something about the execution of the characters that made them… not people you cared about. Something was off about the character development- I totally didn’t see / read the chemistry between Kenyatta and Cy- if anything, LaDawn and Aries were far more interesting. The plot premise was good but the execution was a little tedious. This did not feel like a book that had enough happening to need more parts. I would read the next book to find out what happens but in truth I liked the idea of this more than I liked the book itself.

This was a good time! I loved both “couples” (and I use that term loosely because…these were just situationship at this point in the story). There was humor, a little mess, and a solid plot to keep things moving. Nothing felt like it dragged, and even with 4 POVs, I didn’t mind it at all because every character was enjoyable…even Kenyatta’s mean ass.
I’m actually glad I waited until part two dropped, because things definitely started getting real toward the end. Now I’m anxious to see how it all wraps up!

Lacking the "Snatched up" and the "Unhinged" and the "Hood"
This was a quick read. It was ok but it felt like the story was just plodding along. The writing was solid but the pacing and story plotting was definitely just okay.

💎 As always with the Cole Hart imprint the title really doesn't mean anything to what's going on with the story. Words mean things and the MMC felt less like a menace and just mean and adjusting. The unhinged MMC romance trope usually connects to an obsessive/jealous/possessive MMC who has to have the FMC at all costs. And sometimes that means snatching her up and never giving her up. Here we get lots of shrugs "I guess you're cool." "You being here makes my life easy" aka in-house pussay. I mean that's not very thrilling nor unhinged. He had moments of being a little jelly or possessive but it was in-between these "I don't really know what to do with you I guess" shrugs. Soo it totally deflates the power of the possessiveness.

💎The FMC, Cy, was interesting. The intro just really had me feeling for her. I liked that she had goals but I also didn't get why the author made he almost 30 but feel like a new adult. That was an odd choice. Plus nothing really happens in the story, nothing interesting pushes her forward. As a nanny we don't really see her doing anything special with the kids or pushing to show how phenomenal she is at childhood development and education. Instead she really does just seems to go with the flow of the household. I just knew the threads that were dropped in the intro would come back around once the book got going for some conflict or character development-- like cool she knows how to edit video and craft a SM presence. She knows how to produce a podcast! I thought that would factor into her new Nanny role some kind of way. I thought the Drake intro would make more of a splash into the story that it would involve Kenyatta. Nah none of that happens, instead all she really does in the book is clean up, deny she has feelings for her boss, eventually kind of gives in and then they have a "big argument".

💎One of my biggest gripes with these type of novels is the additional povs and storyline focus on the side characters to the distraction and detriment of the real mains. I noticed a lot of reviews liked La'Dawn and Aries storyline better and I think it's probably because their romance arc moved much quicker and happened very often. Unfortunately for myself, La'Dawn's story beats closely mimic aspects of C'yan's soooo really that could have been used to pump up Cy's story. Plus the romance arc happened quickly for them while Cy + Kenyatta's took forever and a day with barely any buildup and scenes together or intimacy shown. We got several sex scenes with La and Aries before Cy and Kenyatta even shared a kiss or hug. That dragged down Cy + Kenyatta seriously. The action for their story would grind to a halt as we switched over to La + Aries but their storylines were not big enough or significant enough for their own. You could skip over them and it added nothing new or interesting to the overall plot to warrant their own chapters. Plus it completely interfered with the urban mystery/crime as well.
💎Aries disappearing because of whatever was going on made zero sense giving the seriousness of what death death murder murder kill kill surrounding them. Drugs gone missing, money stolen, big bro killed and we have your right-hand big timer stuck in this odd small timey subplot and not following up with the crime boss. Is Kenyatta even a boss of anything. We are told the entire book he's coming into his own but he keeps getting owned and not solving anything in a way that gives "BDE Boss man"
Overall

Like pulling playdoh apart after using a rolling pin to smooth it out the story itself felt thin. The blueprint of the characters were more interesting than what we were given on page.

The beginning of the book is cool. You're interested in the plot but once you get to about 52% of the book, you pretty much enter boresville.
Aries, Moriah, Kenyatta, & Kenyatta's dad acted like they had so much power but, when It was time to prove it, they all sucked.
Moriah got him & his wife killed. In that organization they should have way more protection & contingency plans in place. I blame him for that.
How is it that Aries can get in touch with a old police sketch artist but, can't find the 🥷 that killed Kenza & his wife?!? Aries didn't even have his own safe house where he could protect himself, let alone his daughter. He had to send her to Kenyatta's safe house with everybody else. Pathetic.
Kenyatta's dad did so much big boy talk. But, he still gets taken hostage from prison?! The only thing I can think of is that he must be in on it.
Kenyatta' brother & his brothers wife gets killed, Kenyatta's trap houses get hit up, his club gets lit up, then he gets shot at while at the arcade with Cy, his nieces & his nephew & he still just running around the city talking s***t & chasing people. Just not doing nothing.
Kenyatta's brother seems to be more powerful than anybody else in the book.
You can kind of predict what's going to happen in book two. Kenyatta and Cy are going to get together and raise the kids. Lo & behold Cy is going to be pregnant. 🙄
Ladawn it's going to get worn down by Aria and decide to be with Aries and eventually tell him hey I'm pregnant. 🙄
Kenyatta is eventually going to stop his brother. blah blah blah... I think I'll pass on book two.

Kenyatta is the second born, but then has to step into the leadership position after his brother and sister in law are harmed. He also became the guardian of their three children.
Before this was the music le and living his life on his terms. Now, he has to learn to be polite as he learns the ropes of his empire.
However, his nieces and nephew are causing their own ruckus. Every nanny he hired has quit because of their antics. That is until they meet C'yan.
C'yan finds herself back in Chicago after leaving her relationship. Her cousin LaDawn connects her with her boss Kenyatta that is in dire need of a nanny.

NGL I was pretty pissed with the way it ended!
I didn't know it was ending on a cliffhanger! Booo...but I enjoyed reading this and can't wait to see what happens in Book #2! I hope that the storyline isn't drawn out further than that! We found out in this book who was behind everything happening around the main characters - and I guess I did feel that if Kenyatta was so connected that he should've been able to figure out things sooner!
I loved Cyan's character! When she was first introduced I thought she was going to be a damsel in distress but once she started moving - I really liked her and I loved that the kids loved her too (immediately)! Once she started dealing with Kenyatta and he didn't answer that question correctly of what they were doing - when he knows he would be ready to burn the city down if she started dating someone, I was pissed with her!
I hated Moriah and his wife had to die! And I also enjoyed LaDawn and Aries storyline - I wonder how that is going to play out! For some reason I don't think that child is his, but I guess we will see! And all of them being in the safe house together should be interesting! COME ON Book #2!!!!

Lots going on
It’s been a while since I read a story this detailed from different POV’s. Throughly enjoyed it. Perry is truly something else… That joker has layers of all types of nerves… And he is the cause of everything Kenyatta is going through. My heart goes out to LaDawn and her cousin because they have been dealt some messed up hands in the love department. However Aries was doing hard for her and she kept playing with him until it may be too late. Something is up with Aries ex though. All kinds of red flags are waving about that chick…
Kenyatta needs to get a dose of reality when it comes to his relationship. Since he can’t make up hoods mind, she needs to do her own thing and live her life on her own terms to make him realize what he wants. Although it may be hard in the kids because they wouldn’t have access to her full time and those children have been through enough…. Truly enjoyed this book and onto the next one… Happy reading 🩵🩵🩵

This book took a turn I was not expecting!!!…It’s crazy how daddy was playing simple and acting like his shattt don’t stink!!!…
I was sick knowing that Moriah and Jade became a casualty of Perry’s war!!!…
Cyan said she is not for the foolishness and she needs to see this mess come to an end real quick!!!…
Aries is all over the place, but he said he has to take care of his baby and he is not about to be playing with no woman!!!…
I love me some La’Dawn!!!…Even when she is serious, she is funny!!!…
The fact that there is sibling out here breaking down the family over something that I’m sure he’s not going to get is crazy work!!!…

Wow so much has already happened, C'yan and Kenyatta's first meeting was anything but cordial, but when he needed a Nanny she accepted the job for his nieces and nephew. Trying to still figure out who offed his brother & Sis in law has him scrambling to put 2 and 2 together. La'Dawn fell for Aries at his welcome home party but then Nina pops up with a surprise. So much is happening, kinfolk popping up, babies may be in the mix. Now we find out someone is trying to infiltrate and take over! Let's see what happens next! Great read so far!!!

YOOOOOO OMG
J. Dominique NEVER fails me. Snatched up by a Hood Menace did not disappoint. From start I was rooting for both MMC’s to get their FMC of choice. I needed grumpy Kenyatta to fall in love with Cyan. They just can’t seem to get it right. I also had HIGH hopes for Aries and LaDawn. Book 1 ended so scarily and fast paced that I will be impatiently waiting for book 2 to come out. I will be looking for my HEA in the next book lol

We’re locked in!
Where is book 2?? The cliffhangers and plot twists throughout the story had me so locked in it was unreal. C’yan and Kenyatta and their indecisiveness and stubbornness along with La’Dawn and Aries with the back and forth, drama, and jokes made this book a definite jaw dropper. The action, drama, and shootouts are enough to make you stay up and finish it in one setting. 10/10

Very good read from the beginning to the end. Love the humor and a good shoot out. I loved the ladies sister relationship and the guys brotherhood. I like how C’yan came in a made the house a home for the children. Jordan was getting it in. I liked the OG Moriah he talked like he still had it. I hate what happen to him and his wife. Looks like the brother is the unhinged one I need to see Aries & Kenyatta get unhinged. Can’t wait to read the next book.

This was decent, I needed the MC's to have more conversation. Also I do understand that this is an urban fiction, I don't believe it's an urban romance, but even being that this is apart of a duet I still feel like they barley had that much interaction in this book. I also didn't care for the other two characters story line to be honest. I would still recommend checking it out but I don't think I'll read part 2.

This is getting crazy. Everybody has something going on. I hope Kenyatta gets Prentice grimy self. It’s crazy how women get mad at men and then turn their child against them. Prentice taking his Mom’s revenge out on his siblings for an empire that never was going to be his is crazy. I’m rooting for Aries and Lala even though what she did at Thanksgiving dinner was wrong. On to part 2.

J. Dominique never disappoints ! Every story a banger literally! Kenyatta had been served big shoes to fill when his brother was murdered. He finds solace in Cyan and she is a blessing to his home. It’s a rollercoaster watching them and their loved ones navigate life with targets on their backs. Baby brother gotta die though asap lol, can’t wait for part 2!

Book was very good from page 1 until the very last page. My goodness part 2 better come out soon. Kenyatta don’t play when it comes to Cyn even though he always have an attitude. His little brother is a damn terror he might be worst than Kenyatta.

I loved every second
I love urban fiction with, action, steamy scenes, damn and most of all comedy. This was exactly that, the characters were so good and I love how it kept my interest from start to finish. Currently looking to start book 2 of this series.
