In my opinion, this book is incredibly well crafted and unsettling. I love reading books that delve into difficult subjects relatable to real people and believe we need more books exploring these important themes to spark conversations about traumatic experiences. It’s a psychological thriller with elements of erotic and paranormal horror, and romantic tragedy. It’s definitely not for the faint hearted or easily offended. If you’re interested, please read the content warnings as there are a lot for good reason. Additionally, the book is targeted at readers aged 18 and over due to its heavy subject matter.
“When she woke up, all she remembered was the pain. But it didn’t scare her. Quite the opposite. For the first time in maybe forever, she felt something.”
The Bleeding Hour by S.B. Rogue is not a book you read. It’s a book that crawls under your skin and stays there.
This story is a complete psychological mindfuck in the best, most devastating way. It doesn’t just tell you about trauma it forces you to sit inside it. Every page feels like you’re peeling back another layer of something raw and unresolved, something that was never allowed to heal properly. The way childhood trauma is woven into the narrative is almost suffocating. You don’t just understand the characters… you feel them. Their reactions, their coping mechanisms, their damage it all makes sense in a way that’s uncomfortable and brutally real.
What hit the hardest is how accurately it portrays trauma responses. The confusion. The way the past doesn’t stay in the past but bleeds into everything. It’s not dramatized for shock it’s written with a kind of quiet, haunting truth that makes it even more powerful. You can see how the characters were shaped, how they were broken, and how they continue to function anyway. It’s messy. It’s painful. It’s real.
And somehow… it’s also beautiful.
There’s a strange kind of poetry in the darkness of this book. The writing has this almost hypnotic quality soft in some places, jagged in others that mirrors the emotional instability of the characters. One moment you feel like you’re floating through something delicate and reflective, and the next you’re being slammed into something sharp and unforgiving. That contrast is what makes it so gripping.
This isn’t a light read. It’s heavy, consuming, and at times deeply unsettling. But if you love stories that explore the psychological depths of trauma, identity, and survival— this delivers in a way that feels almost too intimate.
This book is very well written and the way it's written is engaging. The characterizations and plot are thorough but not overwhelming.
And the ending. While I thought I knew how the book would end I ended up being surprised by how the author brought everything together with a twist that made the rest of the book make total sense.
I think readers who love pitch black characters and unhinged plots will really like this book. I would categorize it is a thriller/horror mix with paranormal elements that all come together with a climax twist that is very satisfying.
However I only give it four stars because this is not a book I would read on the regular. My reading history is mostly dark romance with a thriller or two thrown in. The gore was a little overwhelming in spots for me and I very much prefer a happily ever after with the romance the central throughline of the story, neither of which occurred in this book. Truthfully when applying for this ARC I think I misunderstood what the plot was going to be about and that's on me.
But SB Rogue is very talented and especially good at weaving in strong characterization with a compelling hook and if The Bleeding Hour is anything like his other books one heck of a last few chapters.
Thank you for accepting me to ARC read your book SB Rogue!
The Bleeding Hour” is not an easy book to read, and the author makes that very clear from the beginning by urging readers to check the trigger warnings. This story contains extremely heavy themes involving child abuse, SA, physical violence, and trauma, so please go into it prepared.
What stood out to me most was how deeply the book explored the effects abuse can have on a person. It shows how trauma can shape someone in completely different ways, some people fight through it and persevere, while others break under the weight of it. This story focused on the heartbreaking reality of a child who broke in order to survive. Watching him develop different personalities and ailments as a coping mechanism was both painful and fascinating.
Despite how dark the subject matter was, the author managed to sprinkle in moments of humor that gave the reader small breaks from the heaviness, which honestly helped balance the emotional weight of the story.
Overall, I did enjoy this book, but I’d be lying if I said it was an easy read. It’s emotional, disturbing, heartbreaking, and at times uncomfortable but that’s also what made it impactful.
Thank you to the author for allowing me to read the ARC and for continuing to fight regardless of your past.

Atmosphere, emotional intensity, and dark fantasy tension. The Bleeding Hour by S.B. Rogue delivers a dark, emotionally charged fantasy filled with dangerous magic, morally grey characters, and a haunting atmosphere that lingers long after the final page.
The story leans into tension and mystery from the very beginning, building a world where power always comes with a cost and survival often demands impossible choices. The writing has a sharp, cinematic quality that makes every emotional moment hit harder, especially as secrets and hidden motives slowly unravel.
What makes this book especially compelling is the balance between darkness and vulnerability. The characters feel damaged, layered, and unpredictable, which adds intensity to every interaction and raises the emotional stakes throughout the story.
Readers who enjoy:
* dark fantasy romance * morally grey love interests * emotional tension and betrayal * dangerous magic systems * gothic atmosphere * “everyone is hiding something” energy
will probably become completely absorbed in this world.
The tone is intense, immersive, and addictive in the best way.
The Bleeding Hour by SB Rogue really stayed with me, but in a good way. The writing feels honest and sometimes beautiful, but it’s also very sad. I liked this book a lot, though a few scenes were so powerful I had to stop and take a break before continuing.
This isn’t your usual psychological thriller. There are no sudden scares. Instead, the story slowly creates a strong, growing feeling of fear that stays with you. It’s intense and not an easy read, but if you want something dark and real, this book will make you think about trauma and difficult relationships. SB Rogue’s writing is honest and strong, and even when it’s painful, it’s worth reading.
PLEASE READ THE TRIGGER WARNINGS SO YOU'RE NOT GIVING A BAD REVIEW FOR WHAT YOU SHOULD HAVE ALREADY KNOWN
OMG WHAT DID I JUST READ?! 🤯 This book was an absolute mind-fuck from start to finish and I ate up every dark, twisted second of it. Every time I thought I finally had everything figured out… BAM another plot twist came out of nowhere and completely wrecked me. The tension? Insane. The mystery? Addicting. The constant “what the actual hell is happening right now” moments had me fully spiraling in the best way possible. This author really said “trust no one” and then proceeded to destroy every theory I had. Dark, chaotic, emotional, and completely unhinged — exactly the kind of read I live for. My brain is fried, my emotions are all over the place, and honestly? I need more!!
I am not going to lie, some of this was really really hard to get through, so please, please read your triggers.
The hard parts were worth reading to get to the outcome of this crazy book. The fact that the main character went through all the things they did, to make it to the other side, but not how you would believe, is beyond crazy.
I really enjoyed the constant questioning I went through from the beginning, to the very end.
I did not expect the ending of this book. The writing was so well done, that you wouldn’t know from the beginning, that the end was what was going to happen.
If SB Rogue writes it, I’m gonna read it. I only give it 4 stars because this is one of the roughest reads I’ve read in a hot minute. TBH is not for the weak—there’s misogyny, homophobia/transphobia, child abuse, mental illness, etc. that makes this book extremely difficult to digest. It’s an incredible read, but check the trigger warnings and take care of your mental health. If you like books that make you cringe and grimace and audibly gasp, this is the one for you. Enjoy!
This book was crazy the psychological stuff that you had going on in this book was crazy oh my God everything that was happening had me on the edge on my seat I was wait am minute now my mind was blown 🤯 the entire time and I loved psychological and mind stuff that was going that's wish that was in here oh you got me real good real good this look was a 10 out of 10 anyone who want to read this please check your trigger warnings first
First, check your trigger warnings ... This book is in no way for the weak of any kind. There is child abuse, mental illness, trauma (lots and lots of trauma). SB did amazing with this psychological story! It was an intense read for sure. It's dark and will leave you thinking about it long after your done reading it!
keeping it short to let you experience it for the first time from scratch 😈
A dark and powerful trauma woven story that stays with you after you finish the book. Very well written to the point that you can feel and understand each character in such brutally honest way. It might have ruined me. Def Recommend. 😈
