Welcome to THE WEEKEND . . .

When a group of friends rent a converted farmhouse in the Yorkshire Dales, they have little idea that this one weekend may change the course of their lives forever.

While out on a walk, a storm descends and the friends take shelter in the mouth of an old lead mine. Inside, they discover a backpack filled with more money than they've ever seen.

Of course, they agree, they will hand the money to the police at the first opportunity. But as the storm continues and time passes, some of the party begin to think again. Because there are secrets festering at the heart of this group. Debt. Blackmail. A career on the brink. Problems that could be solved instantly with an unexpected windfall.

And perhaps they don't know each other as well as thought they did.

Before long, six good friends find themselves sliding headlong into a world of deceit, treachery, betrayal and murder . . .

What would you do?????? Six friends (3 couples) go away to celebrate the new year. On a walk through the countyside, a water bottle gets lost in a cave/mine and they find a leather bag filled with cash!!!! What to do?????? It's a HUGE amount of money. They could all use some, but will they take the moral high ground and turn it in to the police or will they keep the money????? What would you do?

It's a slippery slope and soon the group has made their decision. But is it a decision that they can live with? Tensions rise and soon, the group of friends will find out that there are consequences for the decisions they have made.

This was a fast and gripping read. I love how the friends begin to unravel as they grapple with the decision they have made. Secrets, lies, and decisions will soon see the light of day. Tension and dread ooze from the pages. I enjoyed the suspense and tense feel of this book.

➡️ IN THE BEGINNING.....

There were six friends. five secrets, and a backpack with £1.6 million pounds.

This deliciously dark thriller was explosive, gasp-worthy, and unputdownable.

➡️ What would you do if you found a backpack filled to the brim with cash?
* Would you turn it over to the police?
* Or would you keep it?

What began as a moral dilemma about returning "buried treasure" quickly exploded into a claustrophobic nightmare of clandestine secrets, mounting paranoia, and shocking betrayals.

Strong characterizations were seamlessly paired with masterclass tension. suspense and relentless momentum.

The reveals were gut-wrenching and perfectly paced.

The dialogue was sharp, biting, and incredibly realistic.

➡️ This was peak T.M. Logan:
Twisty, character-driven suspense that kept me guessing until the jaw-dropping finale.

I listened to the audiobook, expertly narrated by Nicola Walker.

This was a difficult book to narrate, and Nicola Walker's performance was outstanding.

➡️ One of my besties of 2026.

All the stars!

TM Logan books are always a wild ride and so enjoyable to read. The Weekend is a twisty and dark thriller about a group of friends who find a bag of money on their weekend away to the Yorkshire Moors.

Money changes everything right? Well these 6 friends are about to find out. What would you do? On a hike, escaping from the rain, they discover a backpack filled with cash, £1.6 million pounds in fact. Nothing good can come from taking it and yet the temptation is overwhelming for them. It is the beginning of a dangerous game where they don’t know who they can trust.

I love his this author puts ordinary people with ordinary problems into very difficult situations to see how they will react and cope. Makes you think what you would do.

Another winner from a favourite author, his 10th book is fantastic.

Thank you so much to Bonnier Books UK for my advanced reading copy. Publishes on February 26th.

A near perfect read from this author who does friends, dilemma’s and drama so well

Here we meet 6 friends ( 3 couples ) who on a New Years Break find 1.5 Million pounds, all have differing views what to do with it and the then consequences of their decisions make the ongoing story

For me the theme throughout was ‘What would I do?’, What would any of us really do if that amount of money was presented to us with it never being able to be traced back to us, if my answer had been ‘Keep it’ ( of course wouldn’t have been! ) then this story would have changed my decision as the chaos, the lies and the unravelling of the 6’s life was not worth even that vast amount

Splendidly told, attention grabbing and holding all the way through

Loved it

I loved the premise of this book! 6 friends on their usual new year's eve trek stumble upon a bag hidden in a cave containing an obscene amount of cash. What do they do? Keep it to themselves or hand it in to the authorities. This is a very human dilemma but when there are multiple opinions and motivations the plot always thickens.
The story is set up nicely told from varying points of views but mainly from Helen's perspective. We see the characters debating their moral dilemma and coming up with a plan for its outcome, but when things suddenly fall by the wayside the scramble to try and fix it becomes a bit messy as attempt after attempt are thwarted when each person is holding secrets from the others.
I admit I took a LOT longer to get through this book than I should have for personal reasons and I think I lost the momentum slightly, but this is an easy read with very human reactions. I admit I did not see the twists coming but that was mainly because I didn't expect this to be that type of book. I'd class this as suspense not so much thriller.
Overall a decent read with a very interesting concept that many could relate to. I just wish the execution would have left me wanting more.
Many thanks to Bonnier Books who provided me with a copy of the book for review via NetGalley. All opinions are my own.

I'm a big fan of some of TM Logan's previous novels so I was delighted to be approved for the latest ARC. Although the synopsis sounded vaguely familiar (group of friends stumble upon loot and have decidedly different opinions on what to do with it), I was still intrigued as to where he would take it and it did stand out from previous novels.

The group of friends in question are three couples and when they come across the bag of money (over £1m), arguments ensue both between, and within, the couples as to whether they should hand it in or divide it between them. However, what is clear is that the money belongs to someone and both they, as well as the Police, are keen to track it down.

I did really enjoy this one and my enjoyment was only tempered by one thing which was that a mid-point twist was very similar to a book I have read recently so I saw it coming a mile off (and I never see twists coming) which meant I wasn't hit by it the same way I normally would have been. To be clear, that is not a criticism of the book, it is a clever twist which really turns the story on its head, but I did see it coming.

TM Logan seems to have a loyal group of fans and it is clear to see why. If you haven't read his books yet, what are you waiting for?

Thanks to Netgalley and Bonnier Books UK | Zaffre for an ARC in exchange for an honest review.

3.5 / 5.0

Overall it’s not a bad book, great characters that feel genuine, have actual real life problems and sound like what you would expect for a group of people in the mid life with kids off to university. My only bone to pick was how abrupt the books ending felt, once everything was done - boom book ends but also there are also questions left unanswered. I found the book incredibly suspenseful and what better location to have this all happen but in the North Yorkshire which is always a nice treat! I found every twist had the perfect timing, the plot seemed credible and realistic up to a point (it made some logical sense). Everything had a purpose to the book but just wasn’t too happy about how everything went down and abrupt it all felt.

The book centres around a group of friends that rent a converted farmhouse in the Yorkshire dales, they have little to no idea that this weekend would change their lives forever. While out for a walk and stuck in the rain, the group finds shelter in the mouth of an old lead mine. Inside they discover a backpack filled with money of £1.6 million exact in cash. The great British pound sterling. The groups logic initially is to hand it over to the police, but as the storm continues the party begins to think again. It’s clear everyone is hiding a secret, debt, obsessions, career on the edge, drugs - this can solve everyone’s problems. But after they all return back from their trip, the group of friends finds themselves sliding into a world of deceit, treachery, betrayal and murder??

Overall it’s not a bad read, it’s a great read if you’re looking to get stuck into something that will pass time. Once you start you definitely don’t want to stop until you get to the end!

I was really intrigued by the premise of this book. Six friends on a weekend away find a bag containing a large amount of money and quickly realise they cannot agree on what to do with it.

As the story unfolds, each character is revealed to be far more morally grey than first impressions suggest. Everyone has secrets and their own reasons for wanting the money, which creates tension and mistrust within the group. I liked how this explored how quickly friendships can unravel when temptation is introduced.

Helen, the main character, was likeable and easy to root for, while some of the others were much harder to warm to, though that felt intentional.

I did find some of the plot twists a bit too far fetched, particularly in the second half where things started to feel unrealistic and occasionally a little silly. That took me out of the story and stopped it from fully gripping me.

Overall, this was an enjoyable and easy to read thriller with a strong hook, but it did not break any new ground for me.

Another outstanding read from T. M. Logan. The weekend begins as a familiar reunion of friends in the Yorkshire Dales quickly shifts into something far more unsettling, not because of sudden shocks, but because of the slow exposure of the characters involved.

Each character arrives carrying private pressures, financial, emotional, professional, and the isolation of the weekend gives those pressures space to surface. The tension doesn’t come from wondering if something will go wrong, but from watching how easily good intentions start to fray.

It’s a tense, uncomfortable read that leans heavily on character rather than spectacle. The idea of finding the money is simple, but the real story is how quickly long standing friendships start to strain once self-interest enters the room. Logan does a good job of showing how small doubts and private worries can spiral when people feel trapped together, both by the weather and by their own secrets.

I liked how the tension builds through conversations rather than constant action, making the group dynamic feel believable and messy. Not everyone is likeable, but that feels intentional, and it suits a story about moral compromise. By the end, it’s less about the money itself and more about what the weekend exposes, and what can’t be taken back once said or done. Highly recommended

Literally couldn’t put this one down and finished it in two sessions- loved the short, snappy chapters & fast pace & as ever with this author the pages seem to turn themselves. I really enjoyed the snowy Yorkshire setting & the conundrum ‘hook’ which made me question what my own reactions would be if I find a huge bag of money (I’d report it within nano seconds. I found a £10 note outside our school once and handed it in to the staff room immediately!) I couldn’t relate to some of the actions of the MC’s but at the same time it felt believable enough whilst reading, and all thrillers need a healthy dose of ‘unreality’ to keep us on our toes. It still kept me guessing & I really enjoyed it.

Thank you Net Galley for the ARC.

THE WEEKEND - REVIEW

Thank you to @zaffrebooks for sending me this proof copy as part of the #tm10 Campaign.

This is Logan’s Tenth novel and I can completely see why he is a firm favourite of thriller readers.

I flew through this book. A compelling premise, short and snappy chapters, a fast moving pace, a cliff-hanger to end (pretty much) every chapter and a group of characters that I was constantly side eyeing and doubting all the way through. What more do you want from a thriller?

This novel not only explores the moral dilemma of what you would do if you were in this same situation, but it also shows how money can influence people, their lives and their relationships, both positively and negatively, but it also shows how quickly trust is compromised, even between people who are very close. It also highlights the lengths people will go for money when they are desperate. There felt like there was a constant feeling of unease running throughout the story. Secrets started to come to the surface and the friends even started to turn on each other.

This story can from mainly Helen’s pov, but we do have more chapters sprinkled through the book from the remaining people. I love a story from multiple POV’s and feel it really helps to build a clearer picture of whats going on but also adds to the intrigue … And the intrigue was off the scale with this book … There was not one person I trusted - in the best possible way.

I highly recommend this completely smart, and addictive novel. This would be the perfect book for anyone in a slump I think.

This was a fun and entertaining read!

What would you do if you suddenly had access to a lot of money you found by chance? Would you take it to the police, or would you rather hang on to it? This is one of those questions where you think you know what to do, but in reality, it might not seem so straightforward.
Three couples go away for their usual New Year's celebrations holiday and end up in a cave after they get lost. Here they discover a bag full of money, and as we know, money is the root of all evil!
Some of them want to report it immediately, but there are others who want to first look into it and see if it's money that will be missed.
Obviously, this turns out to be a very bad mistake, especially as most of them have their own secrets that they are hiding from each other as well as their spouses.

Another great fast-paced read by T.M. Logan!

I love a TM Logan book, it's one of my regular reads every February or so... of course, once again, he did not disappoint!

The weekend is a book with a dark, twisty story line, one that I felt was darker than usual. Throw in a good moral dilemma and some dangerous characters and I'm 100% sold! The tension in the last third of the story was to the roof and I struggled to put the book down until all was resolved and revealed. I particularly liked the final twist, not the usual one we find in thrillers (adding darkness to an already dark plot) and it gave the ending a different flavour. I don't want to spoil anything so I'll stop here.

This book is a thriller, and I really enjoyed reading it. The story is about 6 friends who find a bag of money in a cave and they don't know what to do with it. Can the 6 friends trust each other to be honest and do the right thing? With many twists and turns and a surprising ending, we find out who put the money there and why. The book was a little bit slow in parts, but then in other parts of the book, it was more fast paced. I love T.M. Logan's books and I look forward to the next one. Highly recommended!

Onto the book itself, I was lucky enough to get a proof of this one and be in the early readers club, so this is a proof to publication journey too. If you’re after a one sit read that you can’t put down, this is a great one to spend a day on. I love a short punchy chapter and this one packed them in making it impossible to not find out what was coming next.

The story follows 6 friends who head out to the Yorkshire Dales for a weekend away and whilst out on a hike a storm means they take shelter in a cave where they find a backpack stuffed with £1.6m in cash. Then comes the moral dilemma which sees them split. Do they hand it in or keep it 🤷🏻‍♀️

Mostly told through Helen’s point of view, we then go on the twists and turns of them taking the money home whilst they decided what to do. I found the dynamic between the friends interesting because much like all groups you have different attitudes towards money and what some might consider insignificant to those who would see it as life changing. It’s very easy to feel for those justifying keeping it to do good for their families whilst others have much more selfish motives. All of this packaged up with treachery, betrayal and of course, murder. An all round fantastic read.

Notable mentions to Prim & Katniss the cats. I love it when cat dads give books cat characters. And Pigeons, one I’ve been able to work into my own corporate life, very funny, did enjoy.

I’m in the minority but this book was a complete nonsense read. It guessed the ‘twist’ immediately. I could have actually written it myself.

The story had potential, finding money, splintering the group but it ended up like a fantasy for bored housewives. No thanks, completely silly, threads in the story that went nowhere, totally silly resolutions to situations.

Nonsense! Thanks to Net Galley for the advance copy

There are a handful of authors I’ll read no matter what the book is about, and T. M. Logan is one of them. Having now read all ten of his novels, I always know I’m in for an engaging and tension-filled story. It’s actually been fun watching his storytelling evolve with each new release.

Whenever I pick up one of Logan’s books, it almost feels like coming home. He’s easily one of my favorite British thriller authors. I love how accessible and immersive his writing style is. It’s so easy to get wrapped up in the story, and I know I’m usually in for a slow unraveling of secrets and tension that keeps the pages turning. Having read all of Logan’s books over the years, I’ve come to really appreciate how consistently entertaining his thrillers tend to be.

The Weekend wasn’t my favorite of his books, but it certainly wasn’t my least favorite either. I really enjoyed the premise, which felt fresh and a little different from the typical thrillers I read. Watching the group dynamic shift as secrets began to surface made the story especially interesting. The characters were relatable, flawed, and fairly well developed, which made their choices and motivations believable.

My only small nitpick was the amount of detail in some of the descriptions. At nearly 400 pages, the story occasionally lingered on minute details that didn’t feel completely necessary. I found myself wishing the book had been a little shorter, since trimming some of those sections wouldn’t have taken anything away from the story.

That said, no matter what T.M. Logan writes, I’ll be reading it. I actually preordered this one from the UK well before its release, which probably tells you just how much I enjoy his books.

An excellently suspenseful psychological thriller! 😍

Why take a weekend trip away to the Yorkshire Dales, when you can read about a friendship group of three couples whose weekend away inflicts life-altering turmoil. Logan must be a chef because I ate this Michelin star read up in under 24 hours!

From the onset, this book gained my unwavering attention with its slow build up, an interesting moral dilemma and all of the drama that unfolds and silences the camaraderie. Logan’s expertly crafted writing style is present once again with short, sharp and snappy chapters which really propel you through the pages.

I had a theory very early on and I couldn’t have been more wrong. With greed, temptation and power at this book’s core which truly consumes the characters and causes rifts between friends, Logan’s ironclad skill of thriller writing really made this read unpredictable. The constant ebb and flow of doubt and suspicion raised on the cast of characters had me absorbing those pages to unravel the story!

I’m not saying any more to prevent spoiling this read, but it is definitely one to venture into blind, just like I did, as it sure doesn’t disappoint. After ten novels, this book solidifies why Logan is the master of the up-all-night thriller!

A huge thank you @zaffrebooks and @tmloganauthor for having me a part of the #TM10, for the proof Copy of The Weekend and for the finished hardback copy I received at Logan’s press night. The Weekend publishes on the 26th Feb and you MUST check it out! 🙌

This is the tenth novel from thriller favourite T.M. Logan and this one felt particularly close to home, literally!

Set in the Yorkshire Dales over New Year, we follow three couples escaping to the countryside for a cosy break. Think winter hikes, board games and trips to dog-friendly pubs with roaring fires and cosy carpets. As a proud Northerner, I absolutely loved the familiarity of the local mentions: York, Harrogate, Hawes and Nidderdale etc. It was fun to know the streets and places that were mentioned in York, even if there is no Grosvenor!

During a hike they take shelter from a storm in a cave and stumble upon a backpack full of cash. £1.6 million to be precise. But who’s counting? The group actually, multiple times!

This discovery shines a light on the seemingly normal couples, exposing cracks in their relationships and highlighting their individual flaws and vices. Think about how you would react to finding such a life changing sum. Now imagine having to work out what to do with five other people in play, each with their own thoughts and reasoning!

I really enjoyed the way Logan handled the shifting dynamics and escalating tension. Seeing these ordinary people justify increasingly questionable decisions, manage their greed and loyalty was compelling. As with the other books I have read by Logan, there’s always been a character I have felt I could root for, but this group was messy and it felt like a bit of a guilty pleasure watching it fall apart!

Thank you Zaffre for the book and for including me as part of TM10.

Thank you to Netgalley and the UK publishers for an advanced copy of this book in exchange for an honest review.

I've enjoyed every TM Logan book I've read so far, and this one was no different. It did have a slightly different feel to it, being more of a slow burn in the first half, with a lot of time dedicated to layering the different characters and threads to the story, to be followed by a more bombastic and action-packed second half to the story. But I think that was a wise choice, and I was thoroughly entertained throughout.

There were so many nail-biting moments in the second half. There were so many obstacles to overcome for Helen and some of the other characters to try to resolve the impossible situation they were in. I was on the edge of my seat, deliciously frustrated each time it didn't go swimmingly.

I did consider the ultimate ending of this book fairly early on, but that didn't detract from my enjoyment. It was a unique premise for a thriller, and it posed several moral dilemmas, which made me think about what I would do in those circumstances.

My only critique was that some of the events that helped push the story on seemed a bit overly convenient, verging on little plot holes if you thought too deeply about them, but I was able to suspend disbelief enough to still enjoy the story for what it was. I would thoroughly recommend giving this a go.

I liked this one better than the first T.M Logan book buuuut it was super obvious and well yeah. It’s fine, it wasn’t bad but not good either 🫣 The writing is really well done it’s just the twist that is not doing anything for me. It just leaves you being like ??? That was it okay? well I thought that was too obvious. It was the second book I read from him and I unfortunately must say it will be the last 🥲 But(!!!) for someone who does not read many thrillers I think I could still recommend it, it really is not a bad book.

A group of six friends holidaying in the Yorkshire Dales stumble across a backpack containing an eye-watering amount of money - but what should they do with it? Obviously they should hand it in to the authorities, but if they were to hang on to it, would anyone ever really know?

"The Weekend" is Tim Logan's tenth novel. I struggled with some of his earlier efforts, which often flattered to deceive, but the four novels prior to this one were all very impressive and cemented him as one of my "must read" authors. That said, although "The Weekend" is good enough and makes for an entertaining read, it isn't up to the standard of the four books that preceded it.

I noted as I was reading "The Weekend" that the premise reminded me very much of Scott Smith's "A Simple Plan", which was subsequently made into a film starring Bill Paxton and Billy Bob Thornton. As it transpires, Tim Logan states in his acknowledgments that "A Simple Plan" was indeed his inspiration for this story. Unfortunately, I don't think this story will make such a lasting impression as "A Simple Plan". It is decent enough, but the plot developments stretch credulity a touch too much and the characters lack any great depth and don't arouse much in the way of empathy. Stylistically, it is quite filmic and it certainly wouldn't be a surprise to see this being brought to the small screen as a couple of Tim Logan's previous books have been.

Overall, even though not his best, this is a pleasant enough way to spend a few hours and I have little doubt that I will be returning for book eleven from T.M. Logan.
