Young noblewoman Nicole has had her heart broken more times than she can count by her fiancé, Keios. Day after day, he overlooks her in favor of Princess Caroline, beloved queen bee of their elite academy and Keios's childhood friend. After one too many slights, Nicole makes a bold If he can do as he pleases, why shouldn't I? Embracing her newfound independence, she begins to shine in ways that even the clueless Keios can't ignore…
I was hoping I would like it, but I LOVED the set up of this one! I wasn't sure at first how I would feel because our hero, Lord Keios comes off as such a clueless jerk. They weren't spending much time together and I was itching for them to be on page together.
But the story evolved in a way I just found so hilarious and fun! The rumors, the assumptions, the miscommunications...I loved it. This story is hilarious, the friendships evolving, it's absolutely delicious and I found myself wanting read more immediately. I'll be seeking more from this one for sure. Loved the art in it, the facial expressions are perfect.
I can't find a single reason to give this any less than a 4 star rating. While reading the premise, I was already looking forward to reading it, and it gets better each chapter.
Nicole actually has self respect and it's so rare to see these stories where the guy who treats his fiancé like trash isn't easily forgiven. His emotional immaturity is apparent even after he realised his mistake and even if he's trying now, it's clearly not enough.
The side characters are my favourite part of the manga. I adore all of them. Especially Lobelia. The scene where she misunderstands and thinks Keios is abusing her and goes to confront him about ot in front of everyone while he askes who tf is she, is absolutely lovely.
Also, I'm glad the narrative makes it clear that Keios is to blame here and doesn't villainise Princess Caroline. She realises that she's at fault too for not being conscious enough of her friendship with Keios and (unlike Keios), immediately goes to apologise without anyone telling her to. (This highlights Keios's negligence even more, given he needs the whole academy to help him win back Nicole's favour. Seriously?)
I know it won't happen but Caroline so far has been a far better love interest than Keios, and she's not even a love intrerest. That speaks volumes.
I really like the direction the story is heading. The story hasn't shied away from highlighting sexism and Nicole seems dead set on studying foreign so she can actually get a job in a different country. I love that her independence arc is prioritised over whatever Keios is doing.
Really hoping she ends up on her own by the end of the story.
thank you to netgalley and Kodansha Comics for providing me with a copy of this book in return of a voluntary and honest review! h man this book is absolutely riddled with miscommunication AND an FMC who is unwilling to see any other pov than her own at all... safe to say it frustrated me quite a bit :( and thats coming from me (an extremely stubborn person) like girlie isnt even taking a second to consider what our mmc is telling her
the art style was pretty though - it definitely made it still enjoyable to read through!
"Everything became far simpler when I let go of my expectations."
I am not sure what to say about this one because while I enjoyed it, I did find it a little bit sad? The first line hit super hard, though, and related a lot to Nicole in expectations, though just not with romance. LOL!
I completely cheered seeing her live her best life on her own! I loved seeing her absolutely shine and be genuinely happy!
On the flip side, I really thought I would hate Keios' character, but I surprisingly did not! My heart went out to him, and I think that's where some of my sadness came in? Like the misunderstandings are funny and bring great humor to the story, but the misunderstanding is SOOOO great, and she's SOOO happy being on her own, that I really don't know what the solution is here?
It's what's leading me to be super conflicted and how I really feel about it. LOL!
Overall, I would say I did enjoy my time reading this, but I am too invested in Nicole's happiness of living on her own to really look forward to the romance, even if my heart hurts for Keios in saying that. The art is definitely beautiful, and I genuinely hope there WILL be a happy ending for them both in some way or another!
This was cute and lighthearted, with a bit of a spin on the relationship between the love interests. He is cold to her, without realizing how he is treating her is making her feel, and so she decides to forget about him and live her life the way she wants to. Which is cute, because it's not like she wants to paint the town red, she just wants to explore on her own, read on her own and get comfortable in her own company, without hanging around waiting for Sir Slightly Idiotic to come around.
Of course, her ignoring him and not hanging around him gets the attention...of the people around the MC H, who clue him in that he is losing/has lost her attention and affection. He comes across as cold, but once he realizes what his inattention has done, he tries to fix it.
Not by TALKING to her, nope, can't be that easy. He is trying in his own way to win her affection back, but she is almost willfully dense and he really has little to no idea on how to exactly GET and keep her attention, lol. He needs to really work at it though. It took YEARS of him treating her as if she meant nothing, from her perspective, so that can't be fixed in a day.
I do look forward to seeing how this all plays out and how he ends up winning her over in the end, and hopefully learning how to be a better person in general to her. He isn't the swiftest when it comes to his relationship with her, but they are young yet and it's not like he has other past romantic relationships to draw experience from. So I am cutting him some slack here.
3, I just hope this doesn't drag on for too many volumes, stars.
My thanks to NetGalley and Kodansha/Vertical Comics for an eARC of this book to read and review.

Usually I don't give manga 5 stars because I just feel like its hard to rate manga, but this was so good! First of all, the art style was beautiful. Second of all, the story was so good? I'm so invested in Nicole and Keios's relationship and how Keios is going to attempt to fix it. I read this in one sitting because it was so entertaining. Also, I feel like I need to emphasize the art style again. I absolutely loved the character designs. Overall this was just so good.
Thank you Netgalley and publisher for this advanced copy.
Well, this is how you did miscommunication as comedy in manga! I really love it. I love how Nicole starts to be independent and not spiraling in her anxiety and just goes on with her days. Thinking her fiance doesn't want her, well that's fine, she's perfectly fine by her own.
And then The fiance, Keios, the messy, not-knowing-how-to-communicate-with-woman guy who always compared Nicole with the Princess, Caroline. It's funny because actually Keios cares deeply for Nicole. And maybe he is too late to show it because, well, she's perfectly fine without him.
The comedy is hilarious, and cute. I love all characters, especially Princess Caroline. She's not a third wheel. And I love that!!
A big thank you to netgalley for giving a chance with this volume. It was a lovely time with a manga whose description and endless videos online made me think I was entering a different story.
I’m so happy I was wrong and got to read this delightful romcom about misunderstandings with a heavy dose of bad communication.
This was so cute, so ridiculous, and so funny! Nicole can be oblivious in the best way, and watching Keios squirm as he experiences the consequences of his inadvertent actions was glorious lol. The supporting cast was also a good time (Lady Lobelia and Keios’ friends in particular).
I’m a little conflicted in terms of the pacing, as I wish some of the telling would’ve been shown instead, but that’s easy enough to look past with such a bubbly tale.
The art was beautiful, expressive, and very much gave me storybook meets high tea vibes.
I mainly read fantasy, horror, and BL, so this was a bit outside of my comfort zone, but it was such a fun and charming time. Will definitely be looking forward to volume 2!
I'm back with another ARC from Kodansha - thank you once again for the opportunity!
Perfectly Fine on My Own, So My Fiancé Can Twist in the Wind is a historical fantasy romance, though so far the fantasy content is very low, and mostly there so that the author can be less strict about period accuracy. This isn't an issue to me, as it's pretty common in this subgenre.
The art is very pretty, with great choices of texture that make it feel unique. The characters' faces are also very expressive, but not to the point that it would become ridiculous. This strikes a balance that pleased me greatly.
One of the themes of this first volume is the emotional labour women often put in romantic relationships, and how it's commonly disproportionate compared to men, who come to expect it and grow complacent. In this story, however, main character Nicole takes the bull by the horns and decides to stop doing this labour, instead focusing on what she wants to do, and taking care of herself.
I also have to say that I really enjoyed the fact that Caroline, our protagonist's 'rival' for Keios' affections, isn't a typical villainess, or even a villainess at all. This is just an example of how this story steps away from common tropes of its genre, and I appreciate it.
I also have to say that I immediately got attached to Nicole as our main character. She's still discovering herself, what it means to be her own person and do what she likes without having to rotate around another person's expectations, and I loved seeing her flourish on the pages.
I can't wait to pick up the sequel! I think I've found a new favourite for sure.
I received this book from the publisher/Netgalley in exchange of an honest review.
In this one we meet a girl named Nicole who is done with her fiancee and his constant ignoring (or talking about another girl) the whole time and decides she just will do her own thing. Yup. I just loved that idea and so I couldn’t wait to get reading.
Nicole is such a sweet character and you just want to root for her. I loved how strong she is. A lot of these manga either have the MC go for revenge or just stop caring for anything, but instead here we have a girl who is looking forward to quiet times and just do whatever she wants. Going for tea? You don’t need a fiancee! Going for a walk? No guys needed. Yes, it is unconventional given the setting, but that only made me laugh her even more. She is so strong.
“I see a very quiet weekend in my future. And not just this weekend, but the next.. and the next. I know! I’ll visit the bookstore. It’s been ages after all. I could do much worse than to curl up with a good book.” Lady Nicole after realising that she is much better off without her horrible fiancee. I love this girl. I already loved her in chapter one but now? Even more. Let’s go bookworms! And this girl is constantly going to books even going so far to study a language so she can read more books. THIS GIRL, I LOVE HER!
I loved reading about the various events from giving bouquets to bazars to letters and more. It was great fun and it gave more insight in the world.
I had even more fun at how people reacted. At first it was mockery and pity and teasing but as soon as they saw Nicole had just embraced the life of a single woman/didn’t care about her arranged marriage the people started rooting for her and getting offended for her sake when they spotted her alone or not getting anything. Or that one time when she was learning a new language for books and people totally misunderstood. It made me giggle and I love that Nicole is building up a group of people who are there for her, sometimes a bit fanatically, haha. The misunderstandings, oh my.
And I loved that we got other people’s POV. Like for instance the princess and when we got her POV my whole idea of her just FLIPPED around. I had expected her to be X but she was actually Y! And the same for Keios. I thought he was a cheating asshole… but he is just a nitwit who doesn’t understand girls. AT ALL. He is such a dumbass. Seriously. He LOVES Nicole… but he is not getting how to tell her that. It makes me happy that we got his POV so we can see what he is thinking and what he is trying to do. It just made me like him much more. At the start I wanted to punch him, and now? Now I am rooting for him. Get you girl! Books will help! I love that everyone is now helping him and trying to get him to woo Nicole and win her back. Though haha, the road is bumpy given how everyone thinks about Keios at this point (see previous paragraph).
Oh lord, that extra bit. Not just Nicole’s but also Keios’ POV which just gave us even more insight in how he views Nicole. Plus, I love that it is not just text but also a manga adaptation of it. LOVE.
The art is so much fun and I love the style.
All in all, I love how my expectations are just flipped around. How for quite a bit you think it is going X but then you learn about everything else and now you want it to go Y. LOVE it. I need more and I cannot wait to see this series continue. HIGHLY recommended!
Thanks to Kodansha Comics and NetGalley for providing an advanced copy of this book for review consideration. All opinions are my own.
I enjoyed the illustrations and thought that they fit well with the story in spite of it seemingly being within the romantic genre based on the cover and description. I didn't get much romance going on at all in the book. Throughout the whole story, the heroine was mostly discovering herself as she was learning to be comfortable with being alone since her fiancée would not give her the time of day. The main character was set up really well and I would have liked to see more of her adventures by herself. The male lead did not have much character which is why the book may have been losing me in the last part when he was finally realizing that he needed to make some changes to gain his fiancé's affections. Overall, I probably would not request for the collection, but it is a story I would bring up and recommend for those interested in romantic manga. I definitely will be staying tuned for the next volume to see how everything plays out.
Wow, this poor girl. I'm looking forward to him groveling and apologizing for the neglect and misunderstandings.
The artwork is cute. The story is going well and I think it is fun how the whole school is kind of getting involved in their own way. And the girls going to bully her realizing they can't make her feel worse than her fiance does, so now they try to protect her??? Absolutely golden.
*Thank you to Netgalley and the publisher for this ARC. All thoughts and opinions are my own.*
Nicole is a young noblewoman engaged to Keios, a nobleman who constantly ignores her to spend more time with his childhood friend, Princess Caroline. Fed up with getting her heart broken by this neglect, Nicole decides she's perfectly happy and capable on her own, leading to an independence that makes her shine too bright for Keios to keep ignoring.
I love this so much. Nicole being over getting ignored and deciding that she doesn't care what her fiancé does, as long as he keeps to the marriage contract and leaves her to do her thing, is perfect. In a world drowning in heroines willing to go to ridiculous lengths to get the man, she's refreshingly relaxed and philosophical about it. There's so much more going on, with misinformation and misunderstandings being just the beginning of the fun chaos that is everything that fails against Nicole's laissez-faire attitude. It's so fun to see Keios sweat as he tries to undo the damage his accidental carelessness caused.
The art is super cute, with Hareta managing to make characters easily identifiable despite everyone wearing the same uniform. Expressive lines help move the story forward as they keep you hooked by clearly showing character emotions; they might not know what's going on in each other's minds, but we readers get to laugh at what goes on there.
This manga is a breath of fresh air that hooked me and left me wanting more. It's fun, romantic, and the beginning of a series that I can't wait to read more of.
Delighted thanks to NetGalley and Kodansha Comics | Vertical Comics for the wonderful read!
*I received an ARC from NetGalley and the publisher in exchange for an honest review*
Oh my goodness this manga was so cute, positive, funny and sweet! (And is based on an original novel, if I'm not mistaken, so I'll be immediately going to read if so).
The story of Lady Nicole finding her independence after getting fed up of her fiancé, Keios, choosing to speak and spend time with Princess Catherine over her was so inspirational and fun.
I am not usually a fan of miscommunication, but in this case it worked fantastically, and we get to see both Nicole and Keios' reasons for the way they think and act, and thankfully it makes sense. On top of that, I'm glad Keios isn't actually the ignorant man he seems to be at first, I'm really looking forward to seeing how he redeems himself and earns Nicole's affections once more.
Nicole was such a relatable and feminine heroine, I really loved how she was the girly one who Keios was awkward with, and the Princess was actually the boyish one- it's a unusual twist in manga!
The art was beautiful, and the academy setting was so lush. I really loved this manga, this volume was such a solid start to the series and I cannot wait to read more in the future!
I only started reading manga about five months ago, and honestly, I regret ignoring them for so many years. What I’ve realized is that manga are just like books. There’s something out there for everyone. Once you find the right one, you’ll probably fall in love with the format. Thanks to NetGalley, I’ve had the chance to explore more titles. Some closer to my taste than others, but it’s been such a fun reading experience overall.
Perfectly Fine on My Own, So My Fiancé Can't Twist in the Wind, Vol. 1 turned out to be a delightful surprise. The story follows Nicole, a young noblewoman who has been engaged since childhood to a marquis. They both attend the same academy, and we quickly see that her fiancé barely gives her any attention. Instead, he spends most of his time with the princess, leaving Nicole feeling overlooked and unappreciated. What I really enjoyed is Nicole’s realization that she deserves better. Rather than desperately chasing someone who doesn’t seem to value her, she begins to understand that being on her own might actually be better than staying with someone who clearly isn’t giving her the love or attention she deserves.
And the artwork? Absolutely gorgeous. The art style is beautiful and expressive, and it perfectly complements the tone of the story.
I had such a good time reading it, and I’m already looking forward to continuing the series. If you’re looking for something cozy, romantic, and uplifting, this is definitely a manga worth picking up.
Thank you to NetGalley and Kodansha Comics for an arc. All opinions are my own.
Rating: ★ ★ ★ ★ Genre: Romance Are There Gay People in this?*: ❌
You guys I'm obsessed. Nicole is such a queen and I love how unbothered she is. I really hope that this series doesn't end up doing that trope where the very independent woman ends up needing to be rescued by a man, because adore how much she enjoys her solitude. I found the love interest to be so insufferable and stupid and I was delighted to find that every single character in this manga agrees with me. He is a loser and I want to see him grovel and beg for her forgiveness tbh.
Also, the art is lovely!
* I count a book as including gay people if any of the main or supporting characters are implicitly or explicitly queer or trans. This does not necessarily mean the protagonist is queer or that there is a queer romance
4.5 This manga is an absolute delight. I totally requested this on NetGalley mostly due to the title, which I thought was hilarious, and it did not disappoint. I laughed out loud multiple times while reading this.
Arase's writing about a world of manners and misunderstandings is ripe with humor. Some of my biggest laughs came from visual gags, though. Hareta's illustrations throughout are entertaining, luscious, and beautifully detailed. The intricacies in the characters' outfits are gorgeous.
Also, Nicole is such an enjoyable heroine. As the title suggests, she's fine on her own, and it's so fun to see how that small realization becomes empowering for Nicole, yet wreaks havoc on every other character. How can you not love a heroine who just wants to read books and enjoy her life? By the end of this first book, I honestly don't know if I want Keios to win Nicole's affections back because I love her independent streak. Looking forward to book 2 coming out in May!
Thank you to NetGalley and Kodansha Comics for access to this eARC in exchange for my honest review.
Frankly I loved this. It's a fantastic change to read about a woman being okay with being alone. I usually don't care for the misunderstanding trope but I thought it was fine in this and helps you not completely dislike the male lead especially after you see his inner monologue. Tbh I'm not sure how I'm wanting this to go. While it was a misunderstanding it's hard for me to not want her to be happy without him. Things were still done and said that hurt her feelings for years and he never even slightly cared to try and resolve any of these issues prior to her no longer making an effort
After getting tired of waiting for the affection of her fiancé, Keios, Nicole decides to make her happiness herself. This does not go unnoticed by the people around them, and especially not by him. But is he really the kind of person they all think he is?
This book was so much more than I thought it would be! I immediately fell in love with the FMC and the way she carried herself even when others made fun of her. The plot is building towards a good groveling (rightfully), but it is also full of comedy. The art style fits the historical manga setting so well, I hope to see more from the artist in the future. Keios is on the line of being hated because of his actions (and their reasons), but sometimes I also pitied his cluelessness. I don't want to spoil too much, but I think we can all guess that soon he will try very hard to get on the good side of our heroine.
My favourite character was the princess, I felt like she was a girls' girl. It was so satisfying to watch Keios panic about Nicole, while she is so unfazed about it.
Many thanks to Kodansha Comics and NetGalley for the ARC! Can’t wait to pick up the next volume!
Thank you NetGalley for the digital ARC of this volume.
Lady Nicole is tired of caring about whether or not her fiancé likes her. He seems so disinterested in her and completely smitten with the princess. Nicole decides that she will not care anymore instead of letting her feelings get hurt. She will bask in her own company instead of being disappointed.
I like the story here. I'm not sure how long this series can be without becoming boring, but I like the first volume. I would read the next one to see where it goes.
I totally devoured this rom-com manga in like thirty minutes! It was so addictive. To be honest, I hated Lord Keios at first, but then he started to amuse me. I felt so bad for the FL, but I loved her energy and how she didn't care one bit about her fiancé. It was hilarious, even though there were moments where my heart actually squeezed. I’m definitely continuing this series! My only wish is for the female lead to have more female friends to hang out with. Thank you Kodansha Comics and NetGalley for the advanced electronic review copy of thi book!
I knew by the second page that I was going to be hooked!
Nicole is exhausted from always feeling like the second choice. When she realizes that Keios can’t seem to talk about anything other than Caroline, she decides she’s done putting in all the effort. If he’s going to keep acting like that, she’s better off alone—and she starts learning how to actually be alone.
Just as Nicole begins settling into her independence, Keios notices something has changed. She’s not as attentive. Not as available. And other people start noticing too. Rumors begin to spread, and what starts as a misunderstanding quickly spirals. The frustrating part? Keios’s actions make the misunderstanding feel completely justified.
Watching everything unfold had me glued to the pages. You can’t help but wonder: can Keios possibly earn his way back into Nicole’s good graces?
I enjoyed this story so much that I immediately preordered the first three volumes—something I never do. It really was that good! It also gave me vibes similar to "Re-Living My Life with a Boyfriend Who Doesn't Remember Me", which made me love it even more. It’s funny, dramatic, and completely addictive.
Thank you to @netgalley and @kodanshamanga for the digital ARC!

I thought this was hilarious and quite cute! But I am worried about losing interest and being annoyed if this miscommunication kind of humor keeps going. I can only take so much of that before it’s not funny anymore.
This manga was really great, I felt all the feelings Nicole must’ve been going through and the storyline was really well done, I want to read the rest of the series now!
i usually don’t care much for miscommunication but ngl it was pretty funny here lmaooo nicole deserves so much better but i liked her little protection squad. keios is so dumb he needs to do A LOT more groveling though.
Thank you to NetGalley and Kodansha publisher for this ARC!
It was so cute and adorable . I enjoyed reading it. I loved how the MFC developed and became stronger and less concerned about anything. In the end, she can do everything on her own. She's definitely fine. I will definitely read more from this author.
Thank you to NetGalley and Kodansha publisher for this ARC!
I really loved this manga. It was really fun and joyful read, I had a great time reading this manga!
Nicole, young noblewoman, was always compared to the princess by her fiancé Keios. Eventually, she’s had enough of all this attitude and decided to be fine on her own and not bother with Keios. She finally started enjoying herself without ‘always busy and unhappy’ fiancé. Little did she know what Keios actually thinks of her.
Keios, young nobleman, who gives all his attention to the princess, not understanding that he makes it worse for himself. As the princess his childhood friend, he wanted to help her with her royal duties, but with this he was neglecting his fiancé. As he had no clue how to interact with ladies, it was another issue of his. He didn’t know how to express his feelings, in fact he didn’t understand what his emotions were.
Honestly, at first I was so annoyed with Keios, I wanted to slap him every single time he was talking. The miscommunication between was kind of hilarious coming to the ending, when I saw the reason Keios was like this. Now I can’t wait for the next volume to know what’s next!
