I ordered this Kindle book by mistake but decided not to return it for a refund. I paid $1.99. I'm not sorry that I didn't send this book back. I enjoyed this book so much and really loved the characters and the story. It wasn't the type of book that I usually read. It was a little predictable but well worth the read. This romance was refreshing.

This was a great romance that combined updated elements of the old glitz romances with a contemporary western (cutting horse) setting. The details were fascinating and the romance heartwarming.

My husband has an iPad and I have a Kindle Fire but they are both loaded from my Amazon account. We both read when we go to bed, and while he isn’t a fan of romance books he picks through the books looking for something he might enjoy. When he saw “Hot Quit” the title caught his eye, because he recognized it as a term used in the world of cutting horses, so he started to read the book.
When I asked him a couple of nights later if it was any good, he surprised me when he responded with an enthusiastic YES. I had purchased the book in June of 2015 and for some reason I never got around to reading it. I had finished the book I was reading the night before, so last night I decided to read HOT QUIT—I’m a fast reader and I read until 12:30 AM to finish it. He stuck with it until he finished at 1:30—very rare for both of us!
I am deathly allergic to horses, but I love to see them in the pasture and to me there is nothing more thrilling than to watch a well-trained cutting horse at work—it is mesmerizing! They are so intelligent and athletic and, believe me, the rider has to have a great seat in the saddle and be very alert and yet able to relax and let the horse work. My husband raised cutting horses and while I could never go to an event in an enclosed structure, there were times when I went along to smaller, outdoor venues, where I could find a spot up wind of the horses and watch. I know enough to recognize some of the terms used in the book, I recognized some of the breeding and the mention of big time cutting events—like at Fort Worth, Texas.
I loved the book! I read some of the less than appreciative reviews for Hot Quit and thought that it was a good thing that we don’t all think the same way!
While Jackson Morgan is the best when it comes to training cutting horses, he is struggling to keep up the payments on his ranch. After a financially devastating incident involving a student who had become his lover, he does not take on anyone who wants to learn the art of riding a cutting horse. But when Alexandria Payne’s secretary phones and tells him that Alexandria is willing to pay well for a one-month crash course, he grasps at the money he needs and agrees to take her on. He has no idea who his student is, and when she arrives, demanding the immediate responses that her position as a high-powered businesswoman has led her to expect, sparks fly…sparks of anger, as well as sparks of chemistry that neither one of them want.
Two very different people from two very different worlds- but for both of them love grows in spite of that. Jackson gives his heart, but he has no idea that Everett Covington, the man who has mentored him, the man that he sees as a father, was the reason Alexandria wanted to learn to ride.
When she arrived, Everett Covington, was simply a resistant, stubborn man whose trucking business Alexandria desperately wanted to purchase in order to pull off a lucrative deal. He had cutting horses and she’d planned to curry his favor and get him to sell his company to her. Everette Covington is no fool, and on the day of a big show at the end of her training, he confronts her with what he discovered when he investigated her and her company. He also reveals the treachery of her partner, refusing to believe that Alexandria didn’t know what he’d done. He will do anything to protect Jackson Morgan. He tells her he will sell her his trucking company, but he has terms that have to be met. Business has always come first with her, but Alexandria’s heart breaks as she accepts the price she must pay.
This is a great book. Roberts knows her stuff when it comes to the world of cutting horses and she understands human nature and human relationships. It was heart breaking to watch these two fall in love and yet know the betrayal that Jackson would feel when he inevitably discovered what had motivated Alexandria in the first place.
Jackson and Alexandria’s love ends in heartbreak. Jackson feels the blow of betrayal and will not let Alexandria try to explain what happened. Alexandria goes back to her successful business and nurses her broken heart. She tells herself it could never have worked out between them anyway.
As time goes by, Everette Covington sees Jackson’s pain does not diminish. He loves Jackson like a son and he has learned an unexpected truth about Alexandria. He reluctantly shares it with Jackson.
As long as love lingers, even in a broken heart, maybe there is hope! I encourage you to read the book to find out.

November 23, 2015Some of the best parts of this novel were the details about cutting. I had no idea such an activity existed - being a city girl who loves the 'idea' of riding, with very little real experience. Roberts's knowledge and understanding of the sport aspects of cutting are evident and made it all the more fascinating.
The romance between Jackson and Alexandria satisfied all the criteria for a good romance and I was happy when Alex made the right choice for her. Jackson is the perfect hero.
Since Roberts is one of my co-writers at Amazon Montlake and a personal acquaintance, my policy of not star-rating books by people/writers I know applies.
However, I recommend this book to readers who enjoy modern/contemporary cowboy romances, readers who are interested in horses and horsemanship, as well as readers who like big business/office romance truly something for everyone.
In fact, my daughter-in-law, a horsewoman and owner, may very well enjoy this book - I will tell her about it.

A great read.This book was. Hard too put down.I loved the characters.They were believable and interesting.The storyline moved along at nice pace and I will recommend this book to most any one who wants a nice clean read.

Fun, interesting read.
Good solid romance. It was fun to learn about something I knew almost nothing about, a cutting horse. This story will transport you to a different place. Enjoy.

Wonderful book!
I was instantly engrossed in this book and could not put it down! The story flowed smoothly and kept my interest from beginning to end . I would recommend this book to anyone that enjoys reading love stories.

Considering I never read horse-based romances, this was an excellent read. Roberts knows her cutting horse stuff, and the characters are naturally contentious. Great set-up, really good conflict. Overall, it was a vety good book.
