Thank you so much to the author for the opportunity to ARC read this story.
The circus setting was definitely a standout for me . It felt atmospheric and easy to picture, from the tents and acrobats to the animals and the underlying tension of circus life. It was a memorable backdrop.
The story explored darker themes beneath the spectacle, particularly the realities of trafficking and corruption. It gave the circus a layered, unsettling feel that felt believable. I’m also now totally convinced this is the inner workings of circus life.
The romance between the FMC and MMC had a lot of potential, especially with both characters driven by a shared fight for justice. Their moral alignment and common goal made them an intriguing match and added emotional stakes to the story. I also really enjoyed the found family element.
Overall, it was a fun read that balanced both dark and lighter elements.
I really enjoyed this book. The writing was so descriptive you could almost feel the circus around you. The main story covered human trafficking and the fmc and mmc trying to help the victims. The story built up to the last part of the book being fast paced and edge of your seat. There is still more to come in book 2 and I can’t wait.
It's a dark but compelling world of masks and secrets. Sara Cook has created intriguing characters and world. I love their nicknames for eachother: Ma chérie - Adrianos nickname for Rosalie Tiger - Rosalies nickname for Adriano A sentence i had to highlight was this one from Rosalies pov: 'I refused to answer the devil, even if he is hot as sin'.
