Rate this book
He’s all business. She leads with heart. At Ozark County Hospital, that’s a problem.

Alissa Day is a dedicated pediatric nurse, a devoted single mother, and a woman who has learned the hard way not to rely on anyone but herself. In the small town of Whisper Falls, she’s built a safe, steady life for her five-year-old daughter, Cathy. The last thing she needs is a new doctor who treats compassion like an optional extra.

Dr. Matthew McCarthy didn’t move from the city to make friends. He came to do his job, hit his targets, and keep his emotions in check. But when he clashes with warm-hearted Alissa in this enemies to lovers workplace romance, he starts to realize something is missing from both his career and his life.

An overwhelming flu outbreak. A late-night diner confession. A little girl with a brave smile. As professional tension turns into undeniable chemistry, Matthew begins to see the woman behind the scrubs, and the family he never knew he wanted.

On Mother’s Day, one thoughtful gesture could change everything.

Healing Hearts is a clean and wholesome small town romance filled with humor, heart, and gentle sparks. Perfect for readers who love single mother romance, medical romance, and sweet romantic comedies with a happily ever after and no spice.

Healing Hearts had such a sweet premise and I really wanted to love this one. I’m always a fan of small town romances, slow-burn tension, and single parent storylines, and this book definitely had all the ingredients for an emotional, wholesome read. Alissa was easy to root for and I loved the caring side she brought to both her job and her role as a mom. The chemistry between her and Matthew had some genuinely cute moments, especially during the quieter scenes together.
That said, this one didn’t hit quite as strongly for me as the previous books in the series. I noticed a few inconsistencies and grammatical errors throughout that pulled me out of the story at times, which was disappointing because the overall plot had a lot of potential. I could see what the author was going for, and there were moments where the heart of the story really shined through.
Even though this wasn’t my favorite in the series, I still think readers who enjoy clean romances, enemies-to-lovers dynamics, and heartfelt small-town settings may enjoy giving it a try.

Alissa is a pediatric nurse and single mother, who thinks she's got it all handled on her own. Dr. Matthew McCarthy, who just arrived to small town Whispering Falls from Oklahoma City, is all about cool efficiency. When treating the patient becomes personal, the pair come to appreciate one another more in this clean enemies-to-lovers workplace romance with a Mother's Day theme.

This is the second book I've read in the "Holiday Hearts" series, and it was a little flat in comparison to the previous installment. With this being the ninth book in series, I would expect the world and community of Whispering Falls to be fairly well established. But it seemed like the story hadn't quite sorted itself out. How the hospital operates is a central part of the story's background, but was very unclearly established for the reader. In some ways it seemed more like a doctors' office or urgent care center than a hospital. And entire departments seemed to be run solely by the nurses, with the new doctor seeming to be the only doctor, who both saw his own patients and floated around to the various departments when the nurses needed him. It was odd. Similarly with restaurant: was it an Italian restaurant or a diner? (Those are are typically not the same thing). I was left with the impression that the author hadn't quite conceptualized or made decisions about her setting, and that the story writing was still in flux.

The characters, too—and their chemistry—felt underdeveloped and flat. The couple had an interesting dynamic, with potential, but the execution was sketchy and not as well imagined as in the previous book, and I didn't really feel anything about them or between them.

That said, I do intend to keep reading the series, because it is quick, light palate cleanser read, and I enjoyed the previous book. I appreciate that this series is written by an independent author, and the writing is good, even if the development wasn't quite to full fruition in this particular story; there is promise there.

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ Healing Hearts by Kiva Hart is a sweet and heartfelt workplace romance that beautifully blends emotional depth with a gentle slow-burn love story.

Alissa is such a strong and relatable heroine—balancing life as a pediatric nurse and single mom while putting everyone else first. Her compassion shines through in every scene, making it easy to root for her happiness. In contrast, Dr. Matthew McCarthy starts off cold and controlled, but watching his walls slowly come down is one of the most rewarding parts of the story.

The hospital setting adds a layer of realism and urgency, especially during the flu outbreak, which naturally brings them closer together. Their transition from tension-filled coworkers to something more is gradual and believable, filled with quiet moments, meaningful conversations, and emotional growth.

One of the standout elements is the presence of Alissa’s daughter, Cathy, who adds warmth and heart to the story while helping bridge the emotional gap between the characters.

This is a wholesome, feel-good romance centered on healing, second chances, and learning to open your heart when it feels safest to keep it guarded. Perfect for readers who enjoy clean romance with strong emotional connections.

Another charming trip to Whisper Falls, and honestly...I’m not sure I ever want to leave.

Healing Hearts gives us Alissa, a single mom and nurse with a heart that just keeps giving, and Matthew, the big-city doctor who shows up with his carefully structured life and maybe one too many walls. She leads with compassion, he leads with control…and watching those two worlds gently collide? It’s soft, it’s meaningful, and it’s exactly the kind of slow, heartfelt unraveling I love.

There’s something so special about the way Kiva Hart writes relationships. Nothing feels rushed or forced – just two people learning, healing, and growing into something real. And Alissa…you can’t help but root for her. She’s strong in that quiet, steady way that sneaks up on you. Matthew, on the other hand, is a bit of a work-in-progress, but watching him soften and shift felt incredibly rewarding.

This story isn’t just about romance…it’s about second chances, about finding peace where you least expect it, and about the kind of love that heals in ways you didn’t even realize you needed.

And Whisper Falls…once again, it feels like coming home. The kind of place you wish was real so you could back a bag and stay awhile.

I highly recommend taking a little trip here…you won’t regret it.

This is the 9th book in the Holiday Hearts series, and while I still enjoyed returning to Whisper Falls, this one unfortunately didn’t connect with me as much as some of the other books in the series.

The romance between Alissa and Matthew was sweet enough, though I wouldn’t really call this enemies to lovers so much as workplace adversaries learning to understand each other. Their relationship was cute, but I never felt especially attached to either character individually, which made the emotional moments fall a little flatter for me. It was very sweet when Matthew went out of his way to do something special for Alissa for Mother's Day.

As a novella, the pacing felt a bit too rushed. I would have liked a bit more development between the characters to really sell their growing connection. The medical elements were are fairly minimal despite the hospital setting.

That said, this was still a pleasant, easy read with a wholesome tone throughout. This is also a no spice romance, so I’d recommend it to readers who enjoy sweet small town romances and quick, cozy reads with heartwarming vibes.

Healing Hearts offers a warm and emotionally grounded romance centered on second chances and personal growth. The story unfolds with a soft, comforting tone, allowing relationships and emotions to develop in a natural and meaningful way.

Characters feel relatable and layered, carrying past struggles while slowly moving toward hope and connection. The pacing gives space for emotional moments without losing momentum, creating a story that feels both uplifting and sincere. Subtle tension and heartfelt interactions keep the journey engaging from beginning to end.

A sweet and thoughtful romance with warmth and depth—perfect for readers who enjoy stories about healing, new beginnings, and love that grows at just the right pace.

I enjoyed this book; it was exactly what I needed right now. It’s a lovely slow-burn romance featuring main characters who start as complete opposites, only to realize that first impressions can be deceiving. People often come across differently than they truly are.

Ultimately, the book shows that while opening your heart can be scary, it is always worth the risk. It’s a great reminder to take your time, move at your own pace, and embrace second chances.

I loved the simplicity and the "feel-good" vibe of Kiva's writing. I would definitely recommend this to anyone who loves a solid opposites-attract, slow-burn, sweet romance.

It starts with the protagonists on a rough path, with a harsh, dismissive take on everything one says and does. The judgmental goodness takes efficiency, working by numbers, and a distant approach, with the previous job's style, even if it's the wrong one, as arrogance. When words aren't taken personally as criticism or offense, it goes better from there, a chance to know each other better, and understand better where they're coming from. I like that the hero appreciates her dedication to work and sees her as a great mother who works really hard with kindness and a smile.

Book 9 of The Holiday Hearts Series. Can be read as a standalone.

'This sweet and wholesome Mother’s Day romance is a slow-burn story of enemies to lovers, single motherhood, and love that grows through kindness, healing, and second chances.'

The characters were very appealing and likeable and complicated and absolutely perfect together. Plot was intriguing and well paced. World building was solidly drawn and impressive. All in all a great addition to the series. Enjoyed immensely and highly recommend.

I felt like this book fell a bit flat for this author. I have really enjoyed their other works but the characters in this one seemed a bit one dimensional with not a lot of personality. The coming together of Matthew and Alissa did not feel natural and they did not seem to get together organically. It felt forced and out of nowhere.

While this was the Mother's Day book for the series, it was not really mentioned til almost the epilogue and personally I felt just being a mother was not enough for the story to be considered a Mother's Day theme.

Honestly I would recommend reading another book in this particular series as it does not properly reflect how well this author writes.

Healing Hearts by Kiva Hart is a cute small town, enemies to lover’s romance. You have a new Doctor (Matthew) from the big city and a nurse (Alissa) from a small town who also happens to be a single mother. Right away he rubs her the wrong way, making her feel like he is judging everything she does. She brings her daughter in for minor medical emergency and the last person she wants to help is him, however she is pleasantly surprised. This is the first book by this author for me, and I enjoyed the simplicity of this romance. Both characters grow as they learn to understand each other. Who would have thought you can bond over bad coffee?

This is a sweet and wholesome story that deals with love in different ways. Alissa is a single mother to Cathy, a pediatric nurse, a caring soul, a protector, and a giver; she feels big and sets everyone before her. Matthew is a new doctor in the hospital, he is a bit cold, controlled, serious, a bit of a grump. When an epidemy isolates them to work together, they will have a chance to get to know each other through conversations, moments, and simply being together.

This book shines in exploring motherly love, family love, couple love, and professional love all in one plot.

Small town single mother pediatric nurse Cathy finds herself having to put up with the new town doctor who treats patients like they’re a number and never with his heart. Cathy leads every interaction with her heart. When the two of them are stuck in close proximity everything begins to change and Matthew realizes hat maybe there is more to life then his cold existence and a career without passion. This is a sweet work place single mother romance that will capture your heart.

I have been reading the books in this series, and I must say, this is one of the best ones. It's from a somewhat workplace romance, forced proximity, and opposite attractions. We see how the MMC felt connected to the FMC and how he went out of his way to be with her.

It's heartwarming, and indeed shows how heart can be healed, one moment at a time.

I found Matthew and Alissa's romance to be just what I needed to read. It is going to whisk you away into a world of romance where a single mom who is a hard-working nurse and Matthew who is a doctor come together in this really amazing clean romance book. This is one of those romance books that is sweet and fun to read with no spice, but the perfect amount of romance to make your reading experience the best ever.

Back to Whisper Falls where city doctor Matthew needs to slow down his pace and start to pay more attention to people. Their start with Alissa is quite confronting.
They both have to change their initial assumptions to keep things professional. And to see over professional.
Beautiful characters and engaging storyline. Enjoyed it.

This book was so good from start to finish. I couldn’t put it down! I love the way that it is written because it flowed really well. There were a few spelling mistakes throughout but it didn’t distract from the reading too much. I’ll definitely be looking at this authors other books! Thank you for the arc!

This was a cute Mother's Day workplace romance. The character development of the MMC was nice. The relationship development of both the MMC and the FMC was cute. I especially loved the fact that the MMC cared for the FMC when he learned she was a single parent.

Cute opposites attract romance.

“Healing Hearts” is a romance in a small town where a big city doctor is transferred to the local hospital. He immediately butts heads with one of the main nurses. The characters are relatable and the banter between the two of them was very entertaining. This is a quick clean romance read and I’m looking forward into reading more of this series.

Alissa and Matthew are funny as they bump heads over every little thing. The attraction is there but the first impression does not do him any good.
I enjoyed the book, even though it was a short book it was still a good story.

compassion
Matthew has a lot to learn about treating patients, it´s not only medical knowledge but compassion and bedside manners that help people heal. So he better watches the interaction between Alissa and Cathy carefully to finally realise what is really important in life.

Healing Hearts: A Workplace Romance With A Little Bit of Mother’s Day Magic (The Holiday Hearts Series) by Kiva Hart – My only question is why does a kindergartener have homework on Mother’s Day? Justice for Cathy on having Sunday homework at 5 years old lol! This was sweet! Happy Reading!

This book was a short, sweet read. A single mother, who’s also a nurse, her daughter, and the new doctor in town. I actually kinda liked the start of the book better because of the snark between the two main characters.
