El comienzo de una de las sagas más entretenidas del dúo Desberg/Marini. En especial los dibujos de Marini y la puesta en página son una delicia en esta saga de aventuras imposibles de capa y espada con todo lo que una buena saga de estas características debería tener: femmes fatales, intrigas, malos malísimos, búsqueda de reliquias, protagonistas con un carisma arrollador y secundarios con corazón de oro. Sólo queda leer y disfrutar.

I've been wanting to read this graphic novel ever since I discovered the character in Brussels. A great swashbuckling, political adventure! Part Indiana Jones, part DaVinci Code, part Errol Flynn!

Really nice art ( this is Marini so no surprise), average story( especially in the later books). I have read the first 4 books in the serie and so far the art gets better as Marini dominates more and more his topic, the writing has however remained similar ( how can Scorpion trust again and again the same woman that always turns against him in the end ?).
Still this is a classic and for the art itself you can't really pass on it.

Głównym bohaterem komiksu jest tytułowy Skorpion. Człowiek czynu, uwielbiający piękne kobiety, dobrą zabawę i pełny mieszek gotówki. W swoim życiu parał się on różnymi zajęciami dającymi mu godziwie zarobić. Najbardziej dochodowym zajęciem jest jednak dla niego „eksploracja” najróżniejszych grobowców i sprzedawanie zdobytych tam relikwii. Pewnego dnia nieświadomie zwraca on na siebie uwagę naprawdę groźnego przeciwnika. Są nim wszechwładne rzymskie rody, które wcale nie utraciły swojej potęgi wraz z upadkiem Cesarstwa Rzymskiego. Od setek lat nieustannie rządzą one kolejnymi pokoleniami, ciągle pozostając ukrytym w cieniu. Poczynania Skorpiona, a przede wszystkim jego tajemnicza przeszłość może zagrozić ich dominacji i zmienić oblicze całego świata. Nic więc dziwnego, że mężczyzna staje się zwierzyną, na którą rozpoczyna się wielkie polowanie.
XVIII wieczne malownicze realia, duża dawka widowiskowości, dynamiczna narracja przesycona przygodową treścią i przyjemny w odbiorze lekki humor. Tak w bardzo dużym uproszczeniu prezentuje się dzieło Stephena Desberga. Zabierając się za lekturę recenzowanego tytułu, dodatkowo naprawdę trudno nie jest tu odnieść wrażenia, jakby czytało się komiksową wersję jednej z wielu powieści Alexandre’a Dumasa. Niektóre pościgi konne czy pojedynki są wręcz żywcem wyjęte ze świata Trzech Muszkieterów. Wzorowanie się twórcy na takim klasyku sprawia, że napisana przez niego historia jest naprawdę przyjemna w odbiorze. Kolejne strony dzieła pochłania się w błyskawicznym tempie, a na sam koniec pojawia się syndrom szybkiej chęci sięgnięcia po kolejny tom serii.
Na pewno nie można więc tytułowi odmówić gigantycznej dawki przygodowej rozrywki. Bardziej problematycznie robi się w momencie, kiedy odbiorca będzie oczekiwał od albumu czegoś więcej niż tylko “wartkiej widowiskowości”. Tkana tu przez twórcę większa historyczna intryga jest bowiem dość przewidywalna. Ponadto liczne (czasem może nawet trochę zbyt liczne) zwroty akcji w niektórych momentach są delikatnie pisząc mocno naciągane (albo bardziej dosadnie – absurdalne). Ponarzekać należy również na dialogi, które trącą sztucznością i w paru miejscach są zupełnie zbędnym dodatkiem do pozostałej treści.

Five stars for the artwork, three for the story.
Marini's drawings have a level of quality and particularly consistency of quality that you often don't find in modern comics. He also does some great backdrops - in this case of 18th century Rome - and for me at least this adds tremendously to my level of immersion.
The story is well-told but relies on the done-to-death concept of a secret society of powerful families who control everything from behind the scenes. Typical conspiracy theory stuff.
It's worth nothing that Marini's Eagles of Rome comic, which is both drawn and written by him, tells a better story than The Scorpion.

Funnily enough, the sample function on Kindle has given me the complete work albeit at slightly low resolution.
The art is very nice and needs to be seen on the printed page to be fully appreciated. The story is solid and intriguing if not particularly original or complex, and the whole thing is a good quality graphic novel. This is just an introduction to the characters and the plot for a series, but it’s enjoyable enough to read on in due course.
There’s a bit of a corny cliffhanger at the end. Ooh, is the titular hero dead? Well no, he’s the titular hero. Oh well. Very much a creature of convention, this.

Aventura palomitera de capa y espada. Con reminiscencia de las pelis de Errol Flyn y Burt Lancaster pero con un arte cuidadísimo en que la Roma del Barroco adquiere un gran protagonismo. La aventura y los personajes son demasiado planos y le deben mucho a Disney (Se incluye el reparto completo del Jorobado de Notre Dame). He leído los 8 volúmenes que posee la Biblioteca pública para descubrir que hay publicados 12 y no parece que la serie tenga intenciones de terminar. Tampoco sufro porque al final se estaba estirando descaradamente.

De Marini me encanta su trazo y su capacidad de dibujar cada escena con el detalle necesario sin ser sobrecargado ni minimalista. Está en el punto medio y el trabajo del tintado de estas historias es muy ajustado.
Y que decir de la historia aventuras sobre un enigmático personaje con esconde aún mucho más de lo que parece y que aun siendo una historia que despliega algunas cosas deja mucho más por descubrir en los siguientes volúmenes

I thought it was a solid start. A bit boring maybe at times but the drawings are stellar and the medieval plot interesting. I loveee the cat.

Quand on lit cette BD, il ne faut pas du tout du tout rechercher un scénario et des personnages crédibles. Si on relâche donc ces contraintes de réalisme, on obtient une bande dessinée aux dessins de qualité (mais là encore sans aucun réalise, on est plutôt dans le fantasme) et au scénario accrocheur, sans être particulièrement profond. La série n'est pas terminée donc vous risquez de rester sur votre faim après avoir lu la dizaine de tomes disponibles. Cette série ne fait pas partie des indispensables, mais c'est un bon divertissement.

Dzisiaj "Skorpion" to już klasyka komiksu historycznego-przygodowego. Tytułowy bohater to awanturnik i kobieciarz działający w Rzymie XVII wieku w ostatnich latach przed wielkimi zmianami jakie przetoczą się przez Europę i świat. Właśnie bohaterowie stanowią o sile tej opowieści, sam Skorpion, jego towarzysz Huzar, cygańska trucicielka, czy córka potężnego rodu rzymskiego stanowią o sile tej serii. Do tego przygoda, liczne walki i ucieczki z dużą dozą erotyki.
W tej beczce miodu oczywiście musiała znaleźć się łyżka dziegciu: główny szwarccharakter, kardynał Trebaldi, momentami godny i zajadły przeciwnik naszego bohatera, kiedy indziej postać groteskowa, przerysowana i niedorzeczna.
Komiks nie miałby takiej "siły rażenia" gdyby nie rysunki Mariniego. Wykreowane przez niego światy się pamięta, w szczególności jego postaci, trochę sztywne i nieraz nieskazitelnie piękne (szczególnie kobiety).

A neat reading, but it was very short. Escorpion (Spanish for scorpion) is the child of a woman accused of witchcraft. Therefore he is not exactly friendly to the Roman Catholic church, the villains of the story. However, the role of the church is not as simple. They are basically helping maintain a social order dating back to the Roman Empire. Escorpion is the ideal swashbuckler good with a sword and charming to the ladies. If you like Zorro or old swashbuckling adventures like the Three Musketeers, you may like this. It was interesting to me to see this is a French story in Spanish translation, kind of like Asterix. The art is pretty good too.

Toujours un plaisir de relire l'ouvrage.

1) "N'est-ce pas exactement cela, la mort ? Un délicieux poison.... tapi dans l'ombre... qui guette le moment où vous auriez tellement envie de vivre !"
2) "Regarde bien : pour la seule fois dans ton existence banale tu as devant toi un être sans âme ! Une créature vouée au néant !"
ps: je ne pense pas qu'une bande dessinée / comic peut compter comme un livre normal pour le goodreads challenge, c'est de la triche je trouve.

Suite à la lecture du premier tome de cette série, je dois avouer que je suis vraiment intrigué. Pourquoi on en veut tant contre le Scorpion? J'aime bien le style de le BD. J'en ai rarement lu qui étaient de cape et d'épée dans le style d'Alexandre Dumas. De plus, les dessins sont très beaux et très détaillés. Je regrette déjà de ne pas avoir pris immédiatement la suite lorsque j'étais à la bibliothèque.

Really nice artwork and interesting characters/ situations. The story, however, is lacking something that could take it to the next level. I can see how this "rogue" could easily end up being a character that really grows on you, though. I'm assuming that tome 2 would be more enjoyable.

Un très bon premier volume ! Le contexte est très intéressant et l'intrigue promet de l'être aussi, j'aime bien les personnages et le dessin est très beau. Une réussite ! Et vu la fin, j'enchaîne direct avec le 2.
