ARC from author in exchange for an honest review.
This is the third book I've read in the Supernatural Renegades series by Carly Fall and I have to say so far it was my favorite of the three. Garrett "Honey" Bloom has met his match when he's tasked to protect "spoiled rich girl" Ruby Rose McDermott and discovers she is the most unassuming and sweet woman he's ever met... so WHY would someone want to kidnap her? Honey has to go above and beyond to try and protect the young heiress that he's grown to care deeply about and possibly love.
This is the third book I've read in the Supernatural Renegades series by Carly Fall and I have to say so far it was my favorite of the three. Garrett "Honey" Bloom has met his match when he's tasked to protect "spoiled rich girl" Ruby Rose McDermott and discovers she is the most unassuming and sweet woman he's ever met... so WHY would someone want to kidnap her? Honey has to go above and beyond to try and protect the young heiress that he's grown to care deeply about and possibly love.

Each member of the platoon has been ‘gifted’ with a supernatural power but the government wants complete silence from the men involved. This is mission leader Garrett ‘Honey’ Bloom and Ruby Rose McDermott’s storyline. When Ruby becomes the target of an attempted abduction, Ruby’s billionaire father calls in help from a specialized source. THE WAY YOU ARE can be read as a stand alone without any problems.
SOME BACKGROUND: The focus of the series follows each Marine as he returns home to a different world. The military demands complete silence and secrecy from each of the returnees otherwise termination –from life-is next on the horizon. Life will become too difficult and lonely when the government orders complete compliance resulting in paranoia, and emotional and physical stress for each of our survivors
Told from third person point of view, the storyline follows Ruby and Garrett’s building relationship. Garrett has been tasked as Ruby’s bodyguard and protector in a secret location in Flagstaff, Arizona. What ensues is an unquestionable sexual attraction between two people who couldn’t be more different. Ruby will discover that Garrett has the ability to shift into a bear, which will come in handy when another attempt is made on Ruby’s life.
The relationship between our couple is one of instant attraction but Garrett’s preconceived notions about spoiled, little rich girls leaves a lingering doubt when they are first introduced. Zach, another ‘supernaturally enhanced’ marine is along for the ride and reminds Garrett that not everything is at it seems. Zach has the ability to see the future but Zach’s powers have come at a cost.
The supporting and secondary characters include Garrett’s former Marine buddy Zach; Ruby’s parents; and Ruby’s brother John. We are also re-introduced to Mr. Joe Smith, the man who owns and operates a special ‘security’ firm for high end clientele; and Joe’s trusted assistant Thomas. There is a little bit of supernatural blended into a contemporary storyline that allows for an escape into a fantasy world of shifters and psychic powers. O.M.Garrett!!!! This might have been my favorite of the series so far. Though, because I fell in love with Zach's character, I'm reserving judgement until Second Sight is released. But enough about him. Let's talk about Garrett.
Garrett, oh how I love thee. Let me count the ways ... you're a cocky SOB but you've got a right to be. This book just oozed sex anytime he was on the scene because ... dark skin, muscles, attitude, ex-marine ... I mean. I'll just leave it at that.
Seriously, though, aside from being sexy, Garrett was kind, protective, and the kind of hero you want to root for. As the Sergeant of the unit of guys who gained their paranormal abilities in the Guatemala incident (explosion), he feels responsible. I can admire his dedication to making things right by fighting to give the other marines their lives back. However, when he gets the job of protecting Ruby McDermott from kidnappers out for a ransom, he may find himself having to choose between his mission and having a life, complete with love, family, etc.
Ruby doesn't make things easy on him, when sexual attraction becomes something more. She makes Garrett question whether he can have both, and because of how well developed they are as characters, you can't help but want to see that happen.
Ruby was an easy character to like, because she embodies that insecurity so many of us carry around. For her, it was the issue of her weight and lack of grace (which I can totally identify with). Garrett does an amazing job of bringing her out of her shell and making her feel beautiful and loved ... which made me love him even more!
The ending left me hungry for me, especially when I read what book 4 will be about. Now that we've gotten a little more insight into the elusive Joe Smith, I have a feeling book 4 will be an explosive one ... and, I'm hoping (maybe?) bring all the renegades together for a little reunion.

How to tame a bear? Throw a curvy red-haired librarian in his path needing protection, who cooks well.

As usual Carly Fall manages to make being between a rock and a hard place into a way to find love in the most unexpected ways. This story covers so many layers that you can't guess the bad guy, add a spunky woman that can spot a Marine's secret fear is something she loves makes you laugh. Because a Marine is never scared of anything, right? She pegs his weakness very quickly, and he finds out her curves make him weak in another way. As the Lead female character Ruby is threatened by a kidnap attempt, she is going under the protection of one of Joe Smith's Supernatural Renegades Garrett. Being one of the Marines involved in an explosion while on a mission he like his fellow Marine team came out with special gifts his honey colored eyes make his nickname Honey, and his ability to turn into a black bear make him very unique. Ruby finding out his secret doesn't allow that to stand in the way for being herself, and falling for this bear of a Marine. Steamy sex scenes and shots fired make for twists and turns that lead to a very unexpected ending. This curvy and comfortable with herself Librarian knows just how to catalog her feelings. The story also introduces the next member of the Marine Squad to be joining Joe Smith's protection services and gives hints at Mr. Smith's mysterious background also, the twist and plots combine and mingle wonderfully in this fast paced and easy read. It will keep you up nights because you'll stick with it from cover to cover before putting it down and then pre-ordering the next story because you just need to find out what happens next. Good work Carly, you never disappoint.

If you have read the first two books in this series you know that Garrett Bloom's Marine platoon was involved in an explosion in Guatemala that left the members with some unique abilities. It has become Garrett's mission to locate each member of his platoon. In this book we find Garrett at Zachary Johnson's door. We get introduced to Zachary who lost his sight but gained the ability to see segments of the future when he looks into a mirror. But this is Garrett's story. Loved that we get to see into Garrett's past and learn more about him, Ruby Rose McDermott has a lot to teach Garrett but also some to learn about herself. I also liked getting to learn a little bit more about Joe Smith and part of the reason he is helping Garrett find his platoon members. Can't wait to read Zachary's story.

I don’t believe that Garrett’s nickname should be “Honey” anymore I believe that Bear suits him much better but hey what do I know about Bears… (had to have a little play on words). Ever since reading a bit about Garrett/Honey/Bear in the previous book I wanted to learn more about him, what is he thinking, what is he like (you know other than the becoming a bear, which I have to say is pretty dang awesome).
