A lesson I keep having to relearn

This book spoke to me because there have been plenty of times when I let one negative comment outweigh a hundred positive ones. As someone who shares my work publicly, it’s easy to replay criticism in my head longer than it deserves. One of the biggest reminders for me was that not every opinion requires a response or even my attention. I liked that the book focused on building emotional control instead of pretending difficult situations won’t happen. The chapters on boundaries made me stop and think about how much energy I was giving away to things I couldn’t control. I’ve gotten better at letting go over the years, but this book reminded me that it’s something you have to practice consistently. The advice was practical without feeling repetitive or preachy. A few ideas were familiar, but they were presented in a way that made me reflect on my own habits. Overall, it’s a worthwhile read for anyone who wants to spend less time reacting and more time living with intention.

Too Much Information

I am in my 60s and I am about ready to retire. Throughout most of adult life, I have suffer from the impostor syndrome. Quite often business leaders feel that they pretending to be someone they are not. Well, at least I have. I have at a lot of success, but believe I have been at time very frustrated with myself and my weaknesses. That is why I picked up this book. To understand myself even more. But this just goes on and on and on. I count the times I lost track on what the the book was discussing. I think that if the author had used interesting and relatable stories it would have been far more enjoyable to read.

Direct and practical

Instead of vague advice it focuses on recognizing triggers, setting boundaries, and responding calmly rather than reacting emotionally. The ideas are simple, but powerful. Helped me think more clearly about what is actually mine to carry.
