Puck Bunny #2

Mics and Misconduct

Rate this book
I gave him a fake name, and he looked for me anyway.

For two years.

One night in Vegas. We didn't even sleep together—just talked until 4 a.m., argued about whether The Princess Bride is a romance, shared French toast in our clothes on a hotel bed. I left before it could mean something.

I took his hoodie. I never threw it away.

Now Zac Torres is standing at my press conference, and the man who spent two years searching for "Rebecca" just found Brynn Callahan.

He's the NHL defenseman everyone calls a locker room cancer—six-foot-four of silence and bad reputation. My editor wants a two-week profile. Redemption arc or villain confirmation.

But Zac's not the villain. He blew the whistle on Chicago's front office, and they destroyed him for it. I have the sources to prove it.

Publishing saves him. It also ends me.

Two weeks with a man who looks at me like I'm already his. A story that could detonate my entire career. And the terrifying possibility that staying might be worth the wreckage.

I've been running my whole life. I'm not sure I know how to stop.

Second chance. Forced proximity. Some people are worth staying for.

Mics and Misconduct is a steamy standalone in the Minnesota Mammoths series.

Okay… I actually loved this book 😭💖 I started it last night and couldn’t stop until I finished. The banter? Legendary. I was legit cackling out loud more than once.
I came in not knowing the series or the author and came out obsessed with Sena Voss’ writing style and storytelling. Sure, I had tiny questions here and there, but overall? So much yes.
Two strangers meet at a Vegas bar and sparks fly… and honestly, it’s just the cutest little story 🤍 The intensity, vulnerability, and high stakes had me fully hooked. Sports romance + hockey? Always my weakness.
I love that it’s told in first person with alternating perspectives—made it so easy to feel for both characters and get all the emotions. Second chance romance done so well—watching these characters face their past and work through everything between them hit me right in the feels.
And yes… when I realized Zac Torres was the MMC, I was nervous. But wow, seeing him in a new light added so much depth and I loved him even more than in Suits and Skates.
All in all? I loved it. Satisfying, swoony, emotional, and leaving me wanting more. If there’s more in this series, I’m in 💖

I’ve discovered a new hockey romance favourite! I really enjoyed this forced proximity, workplace story between Bryan and Zac, who after giving Zac a fake name one unforgettable night in Vegas two years ago, reunite only to discover that Brynn is tasked with writing a piece on the newest enforcer for The Minesota Mammoths - Zac Torres.

I thought Zac and Brynn were really sweet together and enjoyed seeing their tough exteriors be broken down the more they got to know each other. I especially loved the inclusion and focus Sena provided on women in journalism, specifically sports journalism, which we need to highlight more than ever, so I really appreciated this aspect. As well as the amount of hockey that was included and we got to see in the book.

Overall, I thought this was a really enjoyable read that could of benefited to be even longer, particularly with their meet cute, so I could have got even more of the characters and their development 😄 I’m really excited to see what Sena does next - definitely an author to watch!

Love or Career? Your Choice

Another winner from Sena Voss. Zac has been hiding and Brynn has been running from their feelings for years. His new beginning with the Mammoths brings them back together and forces them to look at the things that scare them. Zac has a new team that seems to see beyond the Internet Posts and they're starting to trust him. But there are powerful people who don't like what Brynn's investigation into his past is turning up and allegations about her reporting may ruin her career.
I like the details in this book, not only of the characters but of objects. The descriptions of coffee throughout the book are fascinating, everyplace that coffee is consumed the smell and taste is different. Whereas with ice it is not, Brynn expects the ice in Chicago to smell like enemy territory but it smells the same as Minneapolis. Little details that make a book more enjoyable to read.

I received a copy of this book thanks to the publisher through. NetGalley in exchange for an honest review.

Lately I’ve been reading books with prologues that were unnecessary or took away from the rest of the book. This isn’t the case here. It adds to the book and makes the tension so much more powerful. There is so much emotion throughout the book and the characters and relationships develop. I strongly recommend and am eagerly looking forward to reading more from this author!

first, i would like to thank NetGalley and Maple & Mountain Publishing for providing me with this ARC in exchange for an honest review. i had a great time reading Mics and Misconduct!

despite not having read the first book in the Puck Bunnies series, i enjoyed Mics and Misconduct.

this book features Brynn Callahan and Zac Torres, a couple who met in Vegas one night two years prior to the events of the book, where they stayed up the whole night talking about everything and nothing. Brynn gave Zac a fake name, and fell asleep mid-sentence, but ran in the morning, scared of the vulnerability and comfortability she shared with Zac. Two years later, Brynn is assigned by her boss to do a profile on Zac, who had been looking for her for the whole time. throughout the book, the couple grows closer as Brynn interviews Zac for her profile and they develop deeper feelings for each other.

Zac is the silent type who doesn’t share much and doesn’t open up easily, but when he does, he’s the most loyal man you know. he was so understanding with Brynn the entire time, and provided her with safety and judgement free zone, allowing her to be herself and loving her for it. i think Zac’s struggle with the media was a great choice for his character. it’s relevant and interesting, especially considering Brynn is a journalist. that being said, Zac was kind of just your basic MMC. he didn’t really have any personality traits that made him stand out. he wasn’t necessarily funny, or charming, or rude. he was just quiet and kind of existed.

i think Brynn was more the main character of the book, with her issues causing most of the problems in their relationship. Brynn’s dad left when she was young, and ever since then, she’s decided to leave before she can get left. throughout the book, Brynn struggles to stop herself from running, and to allow herself to just exist without using humor as a way to deflect. i thought Brynn’s character had a lot more depth and personality than Zac’s but it still felt somewhat lacking. apart from her career and her personal struggles, i felt like the reader didn’t learn all that much about Brynn as a person.

i only had a couple of issues with Mics and Misconduct. i found that the author expected the reader to have read the first book in the series prior to this one (which is totally reasonable), but it made it harder for me to understand what was going on towards the beginning. she just expected us to know who Garrett and Easton and Tommy were. i really wish that the author reintroduced the characters and their positions for this book, not assumed that the reader has already read the previous.

additionally, the author expects the reader to have a general understanding of hockey, which again is reasonable, but made it harder for me to follow. as someone who’s only just recently started following hockey outside of romance books, the terminology was a bit confusing at times.

This was, without question, so much more than a hockey romance (and I say that with the utmost respect for the genre, as it’s predominantly what I reach for lately). Yes, it has the sports backdrop. Yes, there’s a truly elite book boyfriend. But what this story actually delivers is something smarter, deeper, and far more emotionally satisfying than I expected.

The relationship progression? Perfect. Organic. Earned. The yearning was immaculate. Every look, every quiet moment, every realization felt layered and real. Watching these two not only fall for one another, but truly see one another was the most cathartic, heartwarming experience. There’s something incredibly powerful about characters recognizing each other’s worth so clearly—and choosing it.

And Zac Torres, the MMC? A walking green flag. Competent, emotionally intelligent, supportive without overshadowing Brynn—just an all-around fantastic book boyfriend. I’m still thinking about him, and I read this over a week ago. Also, the fact that it’s taken me more than a week to find all the words for this incredible book should tell you something too. Not to get you overhyped or anything…

What surprised me most, though, was how beautifully the subplot of Brynn’s investigation was woven in. It didn’t distract from the romance—it elevated it. It gave the story momentum and stakes, while still allowing the emotional beats to land exactly as they should. The writing itself has an inherent immediacy to it—fast-paced without feeling rushed—making it almost impossible not to fly through.

There’s also something incredibly refreshing about the way this book handles women in sports. It felt intentional. Respectful. Empowering without being heavy-handed.

As someone who grew up on classic 2000s rom-coms, I think part of why I adored this so much is that it scratched an itch that’s been overlooked for way too long. It carries those nostalgic vibes—the banter, the swoon, the big emotional payoff—while still feeling modern and layered and entirely its own thing.

Easily a 4.75-star read for me (rounded up, because vibes absolutely matter and I loved these characters too much not to).

Thank you to NetGalley and Maple & Mountain Publishing LLC for the opportunity to read this ARC in exchange for my honest review.

Sena Voss has done it again!!! She has a great way of writing - there's a certain "je ne sais q'uoi" about it that I just love! The characters are engaging & so well written, with great depth.

This is Book 2 in the Puck Bunny series (Yes, I read book 1 - Suits & Skates, but they are interconnected standalones, so you don't have to read book 1 first, but trust me, you'll want to read it, either before or after!!)

While I love sports romance books... I have a special place in my heart for the ones about hockey.

I fell in love with Brynn (AKA Rebecca) & Zac from the first page... I love how they drank coffee (at the bar, in Vegas) and talked all night... and decided not to sleep together because they didn't want a one night stand.... then 2 years later, they're thrown into the same orbit again...

Full of slow burn tension, amazing characters, LOL & swoonworthy moments & finally finding themselves in each other. Brynn is the only one that wants to see his truth... and he's the one who teaches her to stop running. Can't wait to read more!!!

Thank you to the author (Sena Voss), publisher (Maple & Mountain Publishing) & Netgalley for the ARC read. All opinions are my own.

While this book is noted as a standalone in the series I would highly recommend that you read the first book. It just helps this book make sense. This book is full of banter and fun times.

I really enjoyed how this book starts with a beautiful night of very little spice in Vegas. Then when they meet again is absolutely wonderful. You get the vibe of this book very early on. They are fighting their attraction from the very first moment but then you also get that there is something else going on with the MMC that is dark and mysterious. It all sets up a fun read that you can't put down. But the end! OMG the end was so good!!

Big thanks to NetGalley and the author for a copy of this book. This is my honest opinion.

Thank you Victory Editing via Netgalley for an advance version of the book.

This is the second book to the series of interconnect standalone. I do recommend reading both for a better connection to the characters.

I always enjoy a Hockey romance! I like how a simple meet once in Vegas flipped!
How Brynn (Rebecca) believed she could hide behind a fake name on a bar meet over coffee. After 2 years of hidden her feelings of that "one night stand" the reality comes back to her.
I really enjoy reading how they both developpe their connection thought out the book

A second chance sports romance about a hockey player enforcer and the journalist assigned to him. Zach is known for being rough as his team decided to dump him midway through the season. It comes out that their is more to the story. Which threatens their budding relationship and the chance for the truth to be told.

I am a fan of the writing, but I find that some parts are a bit slow. I'm not sure if it's dialog or being overly descriptive, but something just feels a bit slow. Overall I like the story, this was better than the first, IMO. On to the next.

Zac and Brynn meet again when she is reporting on the team where he plays, and needs to write a profile on him. A fun read, and I liked how it was told from both points of view.

I love this series by Sena Voss! This is another hockey romance featuring a couple who basically had a one night stand, then didn't find each other for two years. If you like lots of longing in your romance books, this one is for you!
