Cream: An Erotic Romance

Rate this book
Sultry jazz singer Caroline Spence has a penchant for smokier numbers—and, as it turns out, men of a similar temperament. So when the darkly dominant Marcus takes her on as his submissive, she surprises him by sharing his love of double cream, both in a bowl and on her body, as well as a passion for kink that could lose him his job.

Still, it turns out Marcus isn’t the only one who wants Caroline. The young, rich, and audacious Kyle could listen to her sing forever. Caroline soon finds out, however, that Kyle’s obsession has a dangerous side. But with his charm and smoldering good looks, she finds it easy to let him push her a little too far.

Two men. One siren.

And a challenge that changes her life.

Cream is an erotic romance novel with a BDSM theme. It tells the story of Caroline Spence, a jazz singer who sees an ad in a newspaper and ends up on a journey she really wasn't expecting.

She becomes the submissive of the dark and delicious Marcus, who shares her penchant for kink and double cream, and the two of them have some seriously sexy times together. However, when it seems that emotions may be getting involved, Marcus panics and ends their arrangement.

Caroline's had her appetite for submission whetted, so when another sexy dominant male takes an interest in her, she's happy to try him out for size. But Kyle has an obsessive side to his personality, one that makes him push Caroline's limits. But will he push her too far?

This was a very, very sexy read. Dark, delicious and kinky, it also has fun and tenderness, too. I really liked the characters, and Caroline's best friend added some much needed lightheartedness to some very deep parts of the tale. Overall, a well-written, intriguing, smokin' hot read, and one I'd recommend for fans of BDSM erotic romance.

Cream starts out with the now recognizable shape of a standard BDSM erotic romance—and then proceeds to deepen and surprise at every turn. What did my heart good more than almost anything else was that safe words were used abundantly and made sensual and deeply affirming. Caroline is not timid about defending herself, and she doesn't get caught up in the oddly macho idea that acquiescing to everything is the best way to be a sub. She chooses a sexy safe word with a lot of mouth feel, and she uses it to allow herself to go deeper and get hotter than she could without it. Marcus receives her safe word with pleasure and delight. He's turned on by the way it sounds, and he's turned on by the fact that Caroline's concern for herself means that he can really trust her as an equal partner in what they're doing. I couldn't love that more!

The delight continues from there. With lovely, sensual prose, Lana Fox creates deeply felt, kinky scenes that advance the plot and each character's emotional arcs. When Caroline and Marcus spend some time apart and Caroline takes other lovers, this, too, leads to hot scenes accompanied by the psychological exploration that makes BDSM truly interesting and satisfying.

Nothing here is too pat or perfect. Nothing is trite. Caroline isn't a Natural Submissive, but neither does she perfectly navigate the difficult territory of negotiation and self-awareness that's called for by responsible attempts to practice BDSM. She is a human who has desires and makes mistakes and is learning when to say yes and when to say no and what it means to trust someone as much as BDSM requires.

I didn't just watch Marcus and Caroline fall in love—I fell in love with them both along the way. Highly recommended.

This is a truly decadent erotic romance and beautifully written. It is dripping with sensuality -- right down to the safe word Caroline chooses when engaging in BDSM. She is more in touch with her submissive nature than many of the protagonists I've encountered in D/s stories recently. But she is still something of a novice and has some hard, painful lessons to learn. The main one is that for a D/s relationship to be healthy and satisfying there needs to be trust -- on both sides.

Her first real dominant, Marcus, instills a level of trust that she later uses as a benchmark for her other dominant partners. Unfortunately, Marcus has his own demons to overcome and ends their relationship prematurely. Though they remain in contact, Caroline goes on to find what she needs with other partners.

This results in her learning her next major lesson: never let lust overrule common sense or your instincts. Case in point is Kyle, who excites her, but also sometimes makes her feel uneasy. Is he really the Dom she needs? Or just a control freak in disguise? I won't ruin the story for you, so you'll just have to read it yourself.

Cream has some of the most deliciously erotic sex scenes I've ever read. Most are male/female, but there is a moment of girl-on-girl exploration. While that's generally not my cup of tea, I can appreciate the eroticism. Overall, Cream is a very hot and satisfying read.

A sexy BDSM coming-of-age tale that absolutely lives up to the subtitle! Surprisingly, there is an educational undercurrent to the story, one which a mainstream audience will definitely benefit from, but one which will not distance fans of BDSM romance. Safe words, gut instincts, trust, negotiation, pushing boundaries are all covered in a way that is natural to the plot and characters.

The hero Marcus is scrumptious. That he is “mature” and British garners extra points from me. He is also complex and that complexity is explored by the heroine, Caroline, with the reader at her side. I appreciated the element of realism that pulsated throughout the story. Secondary characters had personalities, everyone had a normal job, settings were easily imagined. This makes the story accessible and believable which is refreshing for the genre.

Overall a recommended read!

Caroline Spence is a young jazz singer, who meets a much older man and becomes captivated by his dominating personality. What follows is a story that I didn’t expect – one full of passion and warmth – heartache and loss – written in a style that I can describe in one word. Luscious.

Lana Fox not only told me a story, she showed me a world I knew very little about. Cream is written from Caroline’s point of view and her narrative helped me to understand why some women prefer to be submissive. This is something I couldn’t wrap my brain around, how could a woman let herself be dominated by a man (or another woman)? To me that requires a level of trust I could never muster.

Caroline took me by the hand and showed me exactly why and how she came to crave submission. She not only chooses the role of sub for herself, she fully embraces it, and accepts her own sexual needs. That is powerful. Even when bound, she is in charge.

Caroline meets the man who will be her master in the first paragraph, and the story begins to sizzle almost immediately. The heat between Caroline and Marcus Sir is palpable. While the dominating side of Marcus made me anxious at first, he has a tender side that lets you know he is no ordinary dom. Here is a line from Marcus that made me audibly sigh –

“You’re exquisite,” he breathed in a faltering voice. “Oh yes, I could teach you, Miss Spence.”

See that interplay? That contrast? Marcus wants to rule Caroline, but his immediate attraction and lust for her is the true master here. That fascinated me. The entire book fascinated me, and most importantly, held me captive.

I loved Cream. Besides the unique characters and touching story, there is sex – hot, yummy sex – and plenty of it. There is a scene in this book involving a bathtub and pitcher of cream that honestly had me gasping for air. In fact, when I was pouring cream into my coffee this morning, that scene flashed in my head and my knees got weak. This book will probably have the same effect on you.

(On a more personal note, now that I have a greater understanding of the dominant/submissive dynamic, I think reading more books of this type will get easier. Sometimes, in order to truly heal, we have to accept our fears head on.)
