Beautiful Second Chance, But the Timeline Didn’t Add Up
Mine Again by Kami is a really good second-chance romance rooted in a deep friendship and love between Naiari (Ari) and Keynauri. The story begins when they’re young (he’s 19 and she’s 17), and Kami does a great job showing how they’re shaped by the adults around them… and how they still fight to build something better, separately and eventually together.
I loved the friendships and chosen-family energy throughout the book. The supporting cast made the story feel like a real community... Nova, Lyric, Logic, East and others added warmth, humor, and loyalty that grounded the emotional highs and lows. The kids were also so sweet, and those moments hit in the best way.
Now, I can’t give this five stars for one reason: the timeline inconsistency with the twins. The premise is that Keynauri served about seven years, and when he gets out, Ari has twins who are around six — that tracks. But later the twins are referred to as four, and that doesn’t make sense with the established timeline. I know some readers won’t care, but continuity matters to me, and it pulled me out of the story.
Also, the parents/adults in this book? A mess. Keynauri’s mother and aunt got off easy, Ari’s mom was a mess too, and Ari’s dad was straight 🗑️.
Still, overall this was heartfelt, dramatic, and sexy, and Ari and Keynauri’s journey was worth it. With a tighter edit on that timeline detail, it would’ve been an easy 5-star read.
I really enjoyed reading this story. Key and Ari back and forth always had me smiling.
Now there’s just a couple of things that had me questioning things.
I don’t like how I found out they were Haitians until the end of the book. Like I was confused seeing random Creole text throughout towards the middle and the end.
I don’t think the book really specified when he got out? Yes 7 years passed but he spent 7 years in prison? Like that night he performed at the club was his first day out??
Nova & Logic story could have been told a lil better. It felt off. There’s was a lot of telling what happen between them instead of showing.
Nova & Ari friendship felt one sided. It was always Ari, Ari, Ari. I don’t think they ever talked about Nova and her love life or what she had going on.
Everyone I felt like the author was going to get into Nova storyline boom they don’t. On the vacation where logic called her out, I was sat! But then nothing else happen after they, they next update we get from them was that he buying her a car and they together?
I love that this book was told in the main characters point of view. But there’s ways where you can tell a story from the main characters point of view of other characters.
Also when we first met Que, he was handsome but then after he was caught cheating, it was said that he was big or I’m tripping?
I found it funny how all of a sudden Ari siblings popped up at the end. They could have stayed hidden.
For it to have been a story with multiple kids, the kids felt nonexistent.
A lot of telling us about the kids and not enough showing. They had one scene I think when they spoke and that was the mall scene. Well that was the scene where they had the most lines.
I love when books incorporate the kids and make them feel seen.
This was such a good read!!! The character development, plot twists & unpredictably really did it for me!! It kept me attention from the very beginning! I can’t wait you get into more from this author!
I really enjoyed this book, perfect mixture of messy, spice and healing. Both they mamas needed they butts whooped. Glad they found love in the end, despite all the challenges.
I dont know if I over hyped this but was flat to me... The beginning was cool but drug out and then at about 47% the pace of story picks up and then drags again...I loved the man was Key was trying to be for his kids but the chemistry of the adult them i never saw...the friends i enjoyed.
I really enjoyed read Keynauri and Naiari’s love journey from teenagers in love to adults in love. Keynauri made sure that his sister, Lyric, and best friend/the love of his life, Naiara, had everything that they needed when they were growing up because they all had neglectful parents especially Keyz and Lyric. Naiari’s mom worked all the time or was running behind man after man while her dad stopped being present in her late teens. It was sad that Keyz ended up going to prison for accidentally unaliving their mom’s abusive man, Tone, when he came home to his mom beaten and unconscious and Tone trying to pull down Lyric’s pants while she was also knocked out unconscious. I really didn’t blame Keyz for blacking out on Tone. It’s sad how their so called mom lied on the stand trying to defend Tone and turned on her kids asking the judge to give a long sentence to Keyz. Keyz and Ari lost seven years due to him being incarcerated but I like the fact that East and Logic stayed loyal to Keyz and Lyric during Keyz whole seven year bid. Que was a temporary place holder just like Keyz said that he was and I wanted to know more about the industry backlash that went down when he was exposed for being on the DL. I understand that Ari didn’t want to cut her mom off from the twins after they bumped heads but Keyz was right for telling her that she no longer would be having access to anyone in his family kids included. I felt so bad for Lyric when her truths came out but I had a strong feeling for what the secrecy that was correct but never did I imagine that would be who Symphonee’s sperm donor was. I wanted to know what was the outcome for the custody case as well. Oh, I really liked the bond that Keyami, Kiaya, Keyaire, and Symphonee had and how they always wanted to be together just like Keyz, Ari, Lyric, Nova, East, and Logic when they were growing up.
One of my favorite tropes is secret baby and Kami knows she writes the hell out of that trope EVERY TIME!
Despite a few grammatical errors and a timeline discrepancies, I OVERLY enjoyed this story.
Let’s get into the opps, so we can get to the good stuff. ALL the parents in this story, Tiana, Que, booooo, throwing tomatoes! Thank you, next.
Keyz & his Cocoa Puffs had a wild ride to their happily ever after, but it proved to be worth it. Even as friends, he always protected and didn’t play about her and she always supported him. So many moments pulled at my heartstrings with these two, especially anytime Keynauri would embrace Naiari and she would fully fall into it, even if she was mad. It showed how much she trusted him.
The found family and friendships in this story were great. I love how Logic and East stood on business and held Keyz down before, during, and after his bid. A true brotherhood. I love Naiari and Nova’s friendship and I’m glad that Naiari and Lyric were able to reconcile their relationship!
Every moment with the kids was just too sweet! I love how Keyz immediately went into daddy mode with the twins and how quickly Keyami bonded with her siblings. I found myself highlighting and saying “awwwww” every time the kids showed up in scenes lol.
The ending said “The End… For Now” so I’m definitely excited to see more from the crew!
Prison bae turned rapper. Babies are hidden, but who’s at fault? YOUNG LOVE started in the sandbox days; bonds were formed, shit happened & fuck ups were made, but they eventually found their way back to each other & brought their made-family along for the ride 🧡 Friends to lovers & second chances are my all time favorite tropes.. the love was so genuine from day one, even just as “bestfriends” they couldn’t tell my boy Keyz nothing about his Cocoa Puffs! I didn’t like how a character was mentioned then kinda just fell off until the end of the book. I also wish we got a little bit more from the side characters.. I understand they’re side characters for a reason, but I’m almost certain there’s gonna be a book in each of their stories as well, so them being a little more present would’ve satisfied me more. I will say I’m ready for the other couples’ stories.. there’s some shit there and I can’t wait to unpack it! Towards the end it started to drag a bit because I started seeing some repetition. Also, prepare yourselves cause these people got some names on em! 😅 “There is only one person who could get a relationship out of me, but I’m not sure if she’s ready for me. Truth be told, I’m not sure if I’m ready for her either. She’s special, and I don’t want her to ever feel like she’s settling with me.” ✨🫶🏾
I thoroughly enjoyed this story so much I read it from beginning to end nonstop. I cried, smiled, laughed, and felt just about every emotion these characters felt. Kami draws you in and makes you feel and have a front row seat watching every play out as if you’re there in real time. We were warned only on about the tears but my goodness.😂 It was real and raw and touched on so many topics we often avoid horrible family issues, domestic violence, down low men, child predators, and abandonment. Nauri, Lyric, Ari, East, and Logic were getting it out the mud as kids, hustling, being providers and saviors for each other and raising themselves which we see so often. Nauri and Ari were best friends until some things happened that separated them. Nauri had the weight of the world on his shoulders trying to make something out of nothing until he had to grow up too fast. Oh and if Nauri said you better believe it. This book was so real and raw. Even as adults they have to continue to be there for each other as the past and people from it began to pop up. They then could enjoy the life they only dreamed of in childhood to the fullest. It was full of romance, pain, healing, forgiveness, and love that ultimately wins. 10/10
Mine Again had a premise that pulled me in immediately—second chance romance, unresolved feelings, and all the tension that comes with two people trying to find their way back to each other. That foundation was there… but the execution didn’t fully land for me.
The biggest thing I struggled with was the relationship development. I needed more time with the characters together—more build, more depth, more moments that showed me why these two people belonged in each other’s lives beyond their history. The emotional beats were there, but there was a lot of drama that didn’t seem adequately resolved.
There were also a number of editorial issues that pulled me out of the story, which made it harder to stay immersed. And the choice to have the MCs randomly shift into Haitian Patois felt a bit jarring—it didn’t feel fully integrated into the characters or the narrative in a way that added to the story.
That said, I liked this book. The premise is strong, and there are glimpses of the kind of story this could’ve been with a bit more polish and development. If you’re a fan of second chance romance, there’s still something here to enjoy.
This one was a solid idea that just needed a bit more depth in execution.
I didn’t expect anything less coming from this author, but I definitely got a lot more than I thought would be on these pages!!!… My heart is so full and my emotions are still on a roller coaster!!!… I love how Naiari expressed her being broken after Keynauri cut her off, but still made the decision to keep her babies!!!…Why her mother felt because she finally decided to stand up and help was a debt that Nairai would owe her is crazy!!!… The moment Keynauri said his mother testified against him, my blood started to boil, like how dare you!!!…Lyric was a broken little girl and lost in a world for savages after she lost her brother and Nairai!!!… East said nope, I got you and he made life a little better for her!!!… It’s crazy how the depiction of some of the parents are ppl that some of us know, blaming the child for an adult’s bad decisions!!!…
At first, I thought I wasn’t going to enjoy the past timeline in this story but I quickly realized it was exactly what I needed to truly understand the bond between Key and Ari.
Their relationship wasn’t built on perfect circumstances. It was built through struggle, need, survival, and finding comfort in the one person who truly sees you. Watching their connection grow through those moments made the story hit even deeper.
This book had me feeling everything. There were parents I wanted to fight, characters I wanted to smack, and a few I found myself wishing we got to know even more.
Characters I would love to see more from Lyric, East, Logic and Nova. They all were top tier support characters.
The best books leave you with that feeling of not being ready to let the characters go… and Mine Again definitely left me wanting more. I could see them kids growing up and having their own books.
What the heck did I just read? These kids were really out here raising themselves and trying to make it. Kami said there were going to be tears, but darn. I am about to catch a case from reading a book. There is no way in hell them women were serious. Funny thing is, people be like that for real. My heart broke for those babies.
Keynauri, sir, you are a gem. They way you looked out for your sister and friends. As you said, ya'll were family enough. Naiari, was your rib and was willing to wait because you risked it all. You were foul but I understood. You were the glue but had some real brothers holding it down for you.
I am happy their story is not over because more black bags are needed. Great cameo by on of my favorites though.
Keynauri and Naiari consider themselves to be best friends. Best friends that put each other first and carve out time to spend with each other.
Keynauri's focus is providing him and his sister because his mom's focus is always on her current boyfriend.
Naiari's mom does not pay attention to her due to her chasing after her current fling. Keynauri usually helps with the things that she needs, like food.
Eventually, they admit their feelings to each other, but something happens that forc3s them to be separated for seven years.
Keys is back as an entertainer, and Naiari is flourishing in her field and the girlfriend of a big-time producer.
Keyz and Naiari cross paths and are forced to confront the past. Feelings are jaded, and going forward seems like a task that Naiari is fighting against.
Mine Again introduces us to Naiari (Ari) and Keynauri (Keyz). Their deep friendship and love for one another bind them on their journey through tragic circumstances and into adulthood. When the adults in their lives failed them, they still found a way independently and eventually together to make a life they only dreamed of in their youth. They make it through the fire and finally get to pop their ‘ish!
This story is heartfelt, full of drama, and sexy! You’ll love the characters that support them along the way- Nova, Lyric, Logic, and East to name a few. We even get cameos of previous characters- Hey Mr. Graham👋🏾. If this is only the end for now then Author Kami set us up for a beautiful ride.
Young love that doesn’t fade but gets torn apart by circumstance. Mine Again follows BBF Naiari and Keynauri, and Kami Holt did a beautiful job developing both them and the supporting cast.
Now let’s be clear the parents in this book? Trash. And that’s me being polite. These babies practically had to raise themselves, so the fact that they turned out as solid as they did says everything about their strength.
I did side-eye Keyz a little. After that secret came out, Naiari told him the truth and he basically told her to kick rocks… so sir, why are you mad again? That part had me like, choose wisely. But overall, this was a great read. Kami never disappoints, and I loved seeing Benet and Jah pop back up from a previous story.
I love books from Kami. I enjoy the love stories and how the men in her books show up for their women with their whole heart and their love does not waiver. I really enjoyed the cameo mention of characters from the Graham series. This book captured me from the beginning and was full of drama as I read that kept me intrigued. Can’t wait for the sequel, if there are plans for one. I enjoy reading books with a family man Thug, given a positive spin for Thugs. They all don’t have to be unhinged and no good. I will continue to follow and read books from Kami since she is one of my top 3 authors. Check out this author if you haven’t already.
The family dynamics. The survival mindset. The way both of them are loving from broken places.
Keynauri isn’t just a “street dude.” He’s a boy trying to outrun his environment. And Naiari loving him while knowing he’s walking a dangerous path? That hit.
The best friends to lovers tension felt real. Not forced. Not rushed. Just years of feelings sitting heavy between them.
It’s messy. It’s flawed. But it’s honest.
If you like urban romance that feels lived in instead of glamorized, this is for you.
Wow. I’ve been anticipating this book since the rollout, and it exceeded every expectation. The pacing was perfect. The way the story unfolded, letting us witness the innocence of their childhood love, the fallout, and ultimately the reconciliation, was beautifully done.
Beyond the storytelling, I have to ask—what was in the air with these mothers? They were something else. And Keynauri? A true crash out, but honestly… it felt justified.
There were too many things that didn’t make sense that prevented a higher rating. We only find out they’re Haitian right at the end…so random. Where did Naiari’s siblings come from? Why didn’t we get to understand more about Nova and Logic, one minute they’re good, then they’re beefing and then suddenly they’re back together but we know nothing about what actually happened between them. After Naiari had that hit blow up with her mum and then everything that happened with her father why would she continue to allow her mother to have access to her children, that makes zero sense to me.

This is the second best book I’ve read from this author. I wished she had gotten a second editor because there was quite a lot of mistakes, which were obvious. However, I loved how she took the time to fully develop the story, and didn’t rush it. Another negative for me, was towards the end the main characters speaking Haitian Creole felt like a last minute thought and felt off. Other than that, I love, love love this story.
If you ain’t reading books by Kami, now is the time! Mine again gives us the 2nd chance love story of Keynauri and Naiari who fell in love as teenagers. Due to circumstances beyond their control their love didn’t have an opportunity to blossom . Baby when these two run into each again 5 years later ,both of them have some explaining to do! Kami always has a way of making you cry your eyes out and also make you want to throw your Kindle across the room too! Kami is one of my favorites in the game, and this is just solidifies her spot for me!
Bankroll Keyz and Nai: A love that withstood the fire
This second chance romance was so cute! It dealt with some heavy urban issues, but the love was always the main character. Key’s protectiveness over his family? Unmatched. I loved that he and Nai didn't drag out the drama, and instead, they chose healing over the hurt. Kami definitely just added another book bae to my collection. Honestly, her male characters are always in a constant battle for the #1 spot on my list! lol
This was a pretty good book. It was filled with drama that kept my attention from beginning to end. I love the way the MMC and FMC loved on each other. They both had familial trauma but their love for each other was unmatched. I was happy they were able to work things out but I wish that conversation had been on page. I also liked the secondary characters and wouldn’t mind reading stories about them as well.
⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️|🌶️🌶️🌶️.75 The story plot was really good but the MMC was not my favorite and the FMC gave weak. I wish there was some more groveling because the MMC was disrespectful. I think I liked the backstory half more.
The story technically had a HEA but there still parts that’s missing so it was more so a Happy Right now ending. Overall I would read more from this author! 💖
This was funny, it was romantic, there was some drama but I think everything ended nicely. I’m slowly becoming a friends turned lovers girly, that and secret baby trope have me sold. This book had everything, it was worth the wait. Also - I screamed “Loyal!!!” When he had a cameo like I know him in real life
