I enjoyed this romantic adventure. Fast-paced and easy to read, Diana and Ian were evenly matched in character and will. I didn't read the first book, and I am curious about a number of the side characters that were were give hints of their stories throughout this narrative. You should know this is not a "clean read" as it does include open door scenes and some found language. Overall, I found it entertaining and enjoyable

In Runaway Rogue by Lille Moore, Diana Rives and Ian Holt have to work together when her groom is late for his own wedding and when found, is soused to the gills and drugged. Oh—and he also happens to be Ian’s brother. And Ian is secretly in love with Diana and has been for years.
Awkward!
Both Diana and Ian have their own operations they’re conducting—she rescuing abused and vulnerable women, he getting violent on the docks to watch over the empire his father has built—and there is danger lurking at every corner. As they attempt to unravel what exactly is going on—while serving their own purposes—they begin to be unable to set aside their attraction for one another.
I’m going to get this out of the way first. I liked the first book! It’s why I wanted this one, and the novella (which I haven’t read yet!), and am subscribed to the author’s newsletters. I would love to read more of their books. This one just didn’t work as great for me.
Negative thoughts:
-The book spends most of its time with them angry and horny. Like they’re angry, all clenched fists and tightened jaws, but also aroused at everything. Eating an oyster? Aroused. In trousers? Aroused. In a vest? Aroused. Diana is gasping and intaking breath so loudly just looking at him that he can hear it. At 37%, they essentially act like they despise each other, or at least want nothing more than to fight (and fornicate, possibly). At one point, she makes as though to pull out her knife on him; the book said she had no intention to use it, but still! Wielding the threat of a weapon against your love interest is WILD.
-It’s also weird that she’s turned on whenever he’s trying to be threatening in appearance; she works at helping women escape abusive situations, but aggressive looks and actions gets her hot? Also weird—or frustrating—that they’re in intense danger in one moment, maybe even facing death, and he’s thinking about having sex with her. Like ALL of BOTH of their interior thoughts is kissing or having sex.
-I really, REALLY didn’t like the first intimate scene. I won’t say without spoiling, but I’ve never liked that trope. Some people DO really dig it, though, so it’s just personal preference. AND ALSO once AGAIN: Diana and Ian are in DANGER. They have a big, bad guy coming to get them but you know what’s important? Diana needs to have an orgasm, so they make sure to stay put until they both climax.
-They both keep declaring they trust each other, but then they manipulate/lie/and omit information to trick the other into doing what they want. I would never trust if I was either of them because it’s constant “there’s something I need to tell you”.
Positive thoughts:
+It was nice that Diana was very capable; actually, in some instances, she seemed like she had a better handle on the situation than Ian did. She could keep a level head while he was more prone to rush in; they balanced each other well.
+A book like this makes the romance more believable because they didn’t just meet the day before and are falling all over themselves in the name of love. Instead, they’ve known each other since they were kids and have been fond of one another for some time but separated due to Circumstances. THAT is both believable AND juicy in terms of storytelling.
+I enjoyed the book whenever it was more sneaking around and action-packed, which is funny because I usually am more inclined to romance. Whenever they fought opponents, or that moment at the end with the search, I felt the book worked best.
+I swear I’m not contradicting myself by saying this, but the sex scenes were steamy! They were! They were fab and also tender.
+The very end was cute! I loved the way the book wrapped up.
+Sunderland seems like an interesting character; I would like to follow him as a lead in a future instalment. His voice and behaviour would lend itself well as a hero, I think.
I would recommend this to people who like their romance with the leads going back and forth with their arguing, those who enjoy historical fiction, and any readers who like a little action and adventure with their romance.

The narrative is based on not only historical facts but several classic stories. She employs metaphors in her story known as tropes. The purpose of the writing is to provided the reader with romance intertwined with time honored tropes.
A trope is a figure of speech through which writers intend to express meanings of words differently than their literal meanings. This means the author shifts the literal meanings of their words to their non-literal meanings. Non-literal language refers to words or phrases conveying meaning beyond the dictionary definitions. The utilization of non-literal language enhances engagement of the reader, create imagery, and deepens the expression of emotions. The meaning of the words are defined by the context rather than the literal interpretation.
Non-literal language has an indirect or symbolic meaning for the reader. The language is essential for adding depth to the story. Not only does it add depth but complex ideas are simplified for the reader. The author makes use of familiar comparisons to explain abstract concepts. The author's intention of this language is to encourage the reader to think more deeply about the intended meanings of the words.

Ian has long pined for Diana, which sucks, as she's on the verge of marrying his brother. On assignment from his (late) father, he needs to steal her emerald necklace to save the family business. "Business" as in "empire". Not only does this go awry—the groom isn't even where he's supposed to be! Before he knows it, Ian is on an adventure (danger included) throughout Europe, with Diana tagging along. But she has secrets of her own, and even if they can get out of this unscathed, what about that whole "engaged to his brother" thing?
The Review:
This book snaps right into the action, and I have to applaud Moore for the PLOT of it all. Necklace thievery! She's a bride! She's HIS BROTHER'S bride! They're leaving England (gasp) in a historical romance! There are vigilantes! Man, there's a lot happening. And I liked that deeply.
While there's a mystery and stakes, let us not imply that the romance isn't center stage (the comp to Sarah MacLean's Bareknuckle Bastards series is quite apt—if you enjoyed that tone, I have a feeling you'll like this book quite a bit). Ian has wanted Diana for years. Diana very clearly wants him back, but is in a bit of a pickle.
At the same time, it's not like this is easy. They aren't cute flirty into each other—at least not at first. And that's not a criticism; I don't think these two, in their situation, would make sense if they jumped into soft flirtation off the bat. Even though they care about each other, the situation they're in doesn't exactly make it easy for them to trust one another.
And the reality is, these two have history. They've known each other for years and have had years to build up not only their attraction to each other—and legitimate feelings—but all these reasons why they can't or shouldn't be together. These are people who've known each other since they were kids, and they also come off as pretty grown up in a lot of ways. Ian has been doing shady things for the sake of the business for quite a while; Diana can certainly hold her own (like, she's ready to knife people, including Ian, if need be).
Which is a good thing, because there is a LOT happening. I really loved the fact that we went to actual casinos in Monte Carlo. There's a feeling in this book that the author really, really cares about creating an atmosphere. This isn't a ballroom historical romance, and it isn't a "wallpaper" historical (I don't love that second term, and I don't think there's anything wrong with the types of books either term implies; but I wanna convey the difference between those and this). It's very much immersed in not only the romance, but the world and plot.
The Sex:
This is on the slower burn side, though the tension is clear from the jump. It's SO fun.
The sex scenes in this book are kind of in a classic (though not total) historical romance zone of explicit without being SUPER explicit. Which isn't very descriptive. BUT IS TRUE!!!
I liked them a lot. The chemistry was great, and I reeeeally felt how much Ian wanted Diana. Good For Her.
The Conclusion:
A romp with stakes and big swings! I very much enjoyed this one, and I think my historical girlies will, too.

A hero and heroine who knew each other as children, and later fell deeply in love as teenagers, forming a bond that felt like true soul mates—this story begins with a strong emotional foundation. Unfortunately, due to a promise, family obligations, and outside forces, they are torn apart and forced to live separate lives. Everything comes to a head on the day Diana is set to marry the hero’s brother, when long-buried truths begin to surface and the past slowly unravels. From that moment on, Ian and Diana are thrust into a journey where secrets are revealed and everything they once believed is challenged.
This is a romance layered with suspense, mystery, and nonstop action. Importantly, the love between Ian and Diana never gets lost amidst the chaos—it remains steady and central throughout their journey to a hard-earned HEA. I especially enjoyed the gradual unraveling of the past and the emotional payoff of them finally learning the truth. Their realization—and ultimate acceptance—that they are soul mates was genuinely sweet to witness.
That said, I did find the plot and its many intertwining subplots somewhat confusing and, at times, a bit overdone. While it certainly kept me engaged, I found myself wanting more than just being told about their love. I would have appreciated greater depth in the development of their relationship and a stronger exploration of their emotional connection.
I am also very curious to see if the author plans to write a story for Amelia and Sunderland. They were intriguing side characters, and I would love to see their history and romance explored further.

This is the first book I’ve read by Lille and it will not be the last. This is a very fast paced book with lots of action. You must read the triggers as there is a lot of violence, death and what happens on the dark side of life. The intrigue, suspense, danger, mystery will have you question just who these people are. Iran Hole is also known as the Devil of the Dockland by those who work the docks. He has a mission from his late father, which is to steal a legendary emerald necklace from his brothers soon to be a bride. It will save the family business, but the necklace has a lot of history and suspension attached to it. If this wasn’t going to be hard enough, the bride is the only women he has every loved and can’t have, Diana grew up with Iran. She doesn’t want to marry his brother either, but both their fathers made the deal before they died. They have stayed away from each other for eight years. Now Jared, the groom is missing. When he is found, he is very ill and not just from drinking. Diana and Iran need to find out what happen to him and who caused it. Now the real story of danger, suspense, evil, betrayal, and so much more begins. Both Diana and Iran will be pushed to the end of their limits time and time again. Both will need to learn trust and how much they will do for the past and present. This is a very different read, very dark, with the worst of life and those who live there. Also, steam level five. Not everyone will like it, but it is a very hard book to put down. I received an ARC and want to thank the author. This is my honest opinion, and I am freely giving it.

The story features Ian Holt, a morally gray hero determined to fulfill a dangerous mission–he needs to retrieve a legendary emerald necklace from his brother’s bride in order to fulfill a promise to his father. The story boldly opens at his brother’s wedding at which the bride is wearing the legendary emeralds. However, the groom disappears, and Diana Rives becomes a central investigator and player. The story spins into a romping escapade through lush and dangerous locales of Europe. What makes the romance especially compelling is the rich shared backstory between Ian and Diana, which Lille Moore reveals piece by piece as the novel unfolds. Every new reveal brings more tension, texture, and emotional weight to their connection.
This is a novel with real saga and scope. Moore is beyond thorough with her research, and each setting feels vivid, layered, and full of social and historical texture. The result is a romance that feels more intricate and plot-driven than cozy or purely character-centered, which I think will work for readers who love elaborate setups and immersive historical details, like a Loretta Chase novel. If your taste runs toward big, intellectually constructed historical romance with lots of moving parts, this one is for you!

This is a novel with real saga and scope. Moore is beyond thorough with her research, and each setting feels vivid, layered, and full of social and historical texture. Diana is an absolute force of a heroine too; she is sharp, dangerous, and admirable. I especially loved that this book gives us not just “touch her and die,” but “touch him and die” as well. The story's description drew me in because of the complicated situation Ian Holt and Diana Rives seemed to be trapped in. From the beginning, I had questions that were gradually answered as the plot unfolded, filled with intrigue, betrayal, and danger. This is the first Damsels in Disguise book I've read, so I wasn't sure if the protagonists had been mentioned beforehand or if this book was a standalone story, but in the end, all my questions were answered. I found Diana Rives' character interesting: calculating, skilled, and committed to her mission. Ian intrigued me even more with the glimpses into his past. It's a story full of mystery and Victorian-era situations. I usually read Mafia stories with strong themes, so several of the topics discussed felt familiar, and the way they were presented was interesting. I liked that the story kept me trying to piece things together. The action moved quickly, with plenty of suspense and situations that made me think about the protagonists' roles and the vows they had made within a society rife with corruption. I read eagerly, eager to see how the author would handle the protagonists' difficult situation, as the solution wasn't obvious to me. I enjoyed and was kept entertained by the plot twists, the resourceful protagonists, the adventure, the romance, the passion, and the abundant action. The story begins on Diana’s wedding day to Jared, but things quickly go awry when the groom becomes incapacitated. Determined to uncover the truth, Ian and Diana embark on a quest that leads them deeper into a web of secrets and mysteries, leaving the reader with more questions than answers.
This is an exciting adventure filled with many twists and turns, numerous antagonists, and threats to both main characters. As Ian and Diana travel across the Mediterranean in search of answers, their romance blossoms. However, their relationship faces challenges due to trust issues stemming from their shared secrets. Thankfully, they eventually find their happily ever after.

Runaway Rogue was such a fun mix of chaos, tension, and slow-burn feelings, I had a really good time with this. Ian and Diana already come with history, and you can feel that straight away. They were close once, there were feelings there, and then everything just… didn’t happen. So throwing them back together right as her wedding is falling apart?? Yeah, it’s messy from the start in the best way.
Ian going into this with his own agenda needing to steal from her to save his family just adds another layer to everything. There’s always that underlying tension of what he’s hiding versus what’s building between them, and I loved that constant push between those two sides.
Diana was such a strong character too. She’s not just caught in the middle of everything she’s actively involved, asking questions, pushing back, and refusing to be sidelined, which made their dynamic even better.
What I really enjoyed is how much is going on alongside the romance. There’s mystery, secrets, and this whole dangerous undercurrent running through the story that keeps things moving. It’s not just about them it feels bigger than that, which made it really easy to stay invested.
And the slow burn?? So worth it. All those little moments, the history, the tension building I was fully into it by the time things started to shift. It’s dramatic, a little chaotic, and really easy to get wrapped up in.

I don’t usually read historical or Victorian romances, but I was intrigued by this story, and it pulled me in from the start. This felt like a real adventure, as if we were running the whole time. It was fast-paced, full of twists, danger, and intrigue. We follow Ian and Diana, who were once best friends with feelings for each other, but a promise drove them apart until the day of her wedding, when Ian is set on stealing the emeralds to fulfill a promise and save his family’s empire. He’s unaware, however, that Diana has a far more dangerous mission of her own. Secrets are revealed, ghosts from the past resurface, and with secret societies involved, the tension between them is electric, addictive, and impossible to ignore. They are a perfect match, so vividly written you can picture them effortlessly.
I’m not usually a fan of third-person POV, but it worked well here with all the details, places, and layers of the story, and because of the historical elements. The contrast between the gritty underworld and high society adds depth, showing how class and expectations shape how people are perceived and the roles they’re forced into. This book made me smile, made me worry, and kept me fully invested and on my toes. I love when a story makes me feel so many things. This definitely won’t be my last book by this author, and it’s perfect for lovers of romantic adventure.

Runaway Rogue by Lille Moore delivers a fun, steamy, and ultimately satisfying second installment in the Damsels in Disguise series. While I do wish I had read the first book beforehand to better settle into the pacing and world, this one still stands strong on its own with a compelling storyline and engaging characters.
It does take a bit (around the first 30%) for the plot to really find its footing, but once it does, it takes off. The final 20% in particular was absolutely fantastic! It was fast-paced, exciting, and completely worth the buildup!
Ian and Diana are a standout pair. Their chemistry is deliciously steamy, and their banter adds just the right amount of charm and wit to balance the tension. Watching their dynamic unfold was easily one of the highlights of the book.
Overall, a great read with an intriguing plot and strong romantic leads. I’m definitely invested in this series now and would love to see more; especially Amelia’s and Beatrix’s stories next! I voluntarily reviewed this after receiving a free copy.

Just hours before the grand society wedding, the groom is indisposed and the bride is fleeing London. As she makes her escape, she finds herself in company of her fiancés’ brother. Along the way, there’s a mysterious organization, a mysterious emerald necklace, and Italian crime families.
I admit there were times when I felt a bit lost in the mystery aspect of the plot. There were times when I felt that the author was (intentionally) ambiguous with some of the details, and either I missed where things came together or some bits were left open ended.
Overall, this was a fun and unique combination of love and adventure.

April 18, 2026This story begins with a wedding. And then off goes the bride into adventure and love with someone entirely different from her original groom. I enjoyed the adventure and the not quite truthful play between the characters. It certainly moved well. The characters were well written. There were multiple plots weaving in-between each other. This is a must read.
